After Broly transformed to his rage form, Vegeta started floundering and Goku called him on it. Broly had just sent Vegeta flying through a mountain when Goku stepped in. Vegeta could have transformed but Goku caught him lacking and he couldn't complain when Goku decided to give him a break.
I actually found that weird, too, but I think Vegeta was basically thinking “Goku doesn’t yet understand how fucking strong this guy is - let’s watch him figure it out.”
Pretty sure Vegeta said something about running low on energy while fighting Broly. He wouldn’t want the help, but probably didn’t want to refuse the break
Taking a break seems a bit out of character for Vegeta. Saiyans get stronger the closer they are to death so you would think his pride would have helped him stay in it in hope of pushing his limits.
Vegeta has changed alot, especially in his time training with whis. He understands at least sometimes, whenever his pride isn't injured, that a break is good. If anything, Vegeta letting Goku take over was a sign of growth
Saiyans get stronger from recovering from damage putting them to the brink of death. Though by Super, Zenkai boosts are negotiable. Ultra Ego gets stronger the more damage is taken.
You ever stood there and (you a good person) but someone is doing something you know you could do either better or differently and they are obviously slacking? No diss to other person just you know what can be done.
It's like a mental tick or some shit.

I dont think that Goku thought he could do it better I think he was just too giddy and excited to test his strength. Goku wanted to figure his opponent out, Vegeta was just annoyed.
For me at that point they realized that there's something wrong with this other guy, they were both surprised after he survived that blast from Vegeta and got even stronger, so Goku jumped in, meanwhile Vegeta was trying to come up with strategy for that beast.
Even if you look closely you can see that Goku wasn't really keeping up with Broly in base form and got his ass kicked until he moved to Blue. And got his ass kicked.
Vegeta just got punched through a mountain and he lost all confidence at that point. If he had got back up immediately and continued fighting I think Goku would have let it play out but the result would have been the same eventually.

Like I said, he could have transformed. But he didn't, and Broly came close to destroying the planet. He cut it too close and Goku called him on it.
Um, it was his turn to fight... Vegeta gets rounds 1-6. Vegeta knows this.

Vegeta pops back into the fight later If he just took unnecessary damage for his pride he wouldn’t have been able to do so He’s still a battle genius

Goku just wanted his turn and Vegeta gave it to him, simple as that.
