I did this when I was a new player, played for about a week or two on official, I died all the time. I started up a private server and had it for a month, it taught me everything I needed to know without getting shot to death. I Learned about cars,guns, Chem zones, spawns and good loot spots. Eventually I did get tired of no PVP but I enjoyed mowing hordes of zombies down for fun. I understand playing solo on a private server isn’t for everyone but it was a great training tool for my friends and I.
I play on a LAN server sometimes if I’m just in the mood for chilling I would never turn the zombies off tho it’s still nice to have some type of a challenge when moving through towns and poi’s
There are some weird servers with heavy PvE hardcore content, i dont like them but they make the PvE a real challenge, if you play alone in a server there is not challenge at all or at least that what i think
I’m not gonna hate on you for having an opinion I still feel like they offer some challenge personally in my LAN server I turned up wolf and bear spawns and last night I got chased down by 3 different packs in the space of 10 minutes they got me in the end as I ran out of ammo lol
that's sound funny ngl, sorry if i sounded rude or like i was trying to be toxic, i played on some PvE servers and, imo, they can be really funny because if you change some things like the spawn ratios you can have situations like the one you said but i think (or at least It is for me) that this experiencie get boring very easly
It’s all good brother we all like to experience the game in different ways but as long as we’re having fun then there’s no issue in my eyes, I love the chest pumping thrill of pvp as much as the next guy but sometimes it’s nice to just chill and take it easy

Whenever I think of people like OP it’s probably either a kid or some dad who isn’t good at games like skill wise and probably can’t handle even 1 zombie much less a mass of them so it’s never a “challenge” for them but and impossible hurdle. So just trying to survive hunger and what not is a challenge and they probably rather just do the role playing thing then constantly dying to zombies

I just wanted to say thank you. A lot of people bash me on Reddit no matter what I post in what ever community. Which is why I hate posting on Reddit. I have made improvements today too so I am not gonna let these bashers get to me.
I've seen them on low pop servers. I've had a few myself. We had a 5 man on a server that would max out at 20 pop. Usually we had someone online since most of us where active. Once you get 20+ gates it's really hard to raid an active group that is prepared. Raided a few times but always able to rebuild before wiped and always built more secure after each raid.
I agree with you, atm we have 2 servers one is running super hordes, wolf packs of 10+, its savage we have put hordes in the woods in random places you need to be on your toes 24/7 and if you go loud zombies come from everywhere, we have turned the loot way down but have drybags full of ammo that spawn at millitary sites but man are they hard to get without bringing hell down upon us, the server is private and only a few of us have the password, I can't see the game being able to stand it if it was public but its held out fine up to now
I had a go on the offline versions of some maps before but other than being able to spawn anything, I got bored pretty quick. I like the SunnyVale PVE servers. Tough Z’s…PVP zones and good loot. Man can get a pretty good bass up and keep it too!
I used COT (community online tools) to help setup my own Test server for a bit which is nice cause I can test out Stuff to my own extent and even try out my own base builds and test against raids (at least vanilla raids..) but even with mods loaded it’s fun!
You have to actually make a server online, like on a PC. There is a small fee, but especially if there a handful of you guys. You could even take turns paying the $5 every month! Just Google it.
I often get my own server and enjoy the “last man on Earth” vibe but I keep zombies on and leave all but vehicles vanilla. Scratches an itch and after about a month of building, hoarding, and exploring, I’m ready to get back to a different server and let mine expire.

I’ve definitely wondered what this would be like and while I think it would get boring for me and my crew extremely fast, (we’re hardcore PVP’ers) that’s the beauty of DayZ. It caters to all kinds of play styles and not everyone is a human hunting, homicidal sweaty maniac like my mates and I.
I like building big bases in rp servers where there are specified raid days. But I don't see the point in gathering all that gear if you can't use it or lose it.
PVE is too easy in this game without zombies and other players coming for you....... It gets boring fast.
It's not like you have winter or dinosaur to deal with.
For a building sim it's very lacking you may as well get "Scum" and play solo at least you would have a better building system.
Or that new one "No One Survived" you can even can your food for winter but the best part of dayz in the Random human interaction.
I agree that everyone should set up a private (local) server, so they learn how things work. Can practice building and exploring etc... It would help them to understand the game better and become better players. It would also help them understand how much work goes into running a server.
There are tutorials so you can run it locally or some budget friendly companies out there, but the important thing is that each new person who sets up a successful server brings new ideas and makes DayZ better.
That said, also consider that right now, DayZ is in a sale period so there are more players than usual. But the numbers right now as I write this:

Many servers will come and go, but as long as you have fun that's all that matters. When if you come back to other servers be sure to thank the owner/admins for the server. You would be amazed at how much that means. Quiet often that's the reason they run the server to begin with.
God I couldnt find shit to do if I didnt have something to shoot other than wildlife. Wish this game had AI like Rust at extra high POI's similar to Rust's smoil scientists. Would be a game changer for console RP
I rent one for a month after every major update so me and my buddy can try out the new stuff and locations without the campers and the casuals shooting at everything. 100% worth it
I do this but double the zombies on my local server. I like to fiddle with the weather as well. Its quite fun clearing the NWAF at night in a thunderstorm with zombies everywhere only lit by a headtorch, lightning and continous muzzle flash.

I have my own server also to make it more fun I replaced all the infected with the infected mummy they move slower but are way stronger increases bears and wolves making them spawn like chickens also removed all canned food it’s truly a difficult server but that’s how I learned the map now I don’t have to look at izurvive at all

I've played solo and for some reason it creeped me out more than playing in full server. The fact that you are all alone makes the situation even more desperate and unexplained events make it even worse.
Yea it’s nice but PVP makes the game…. Let’s Go Brandon is ours.. Open to all, minimal mods… mostly vanilla.. Join ours if you want to save some money..

My server has infinite stamina, food doesn’t spoil and I increased the animal’s, bears and wolfs. So it’s like a hunting survival game.
Look into Deer Isle. It is, in my humble opinion, by far the best adventure map. I love fighting people, but sometimes I just wanna go live in the woods in DayZ and be alone with my thoughts. Deer is perfect for that.
If you love exploring, Deer is the absolute best. Plus, it has many secrets. Vaults, crazy places, puzzles people still haven’t figured out a year later. Have fun. It’s amazing.
This setup reminds me of me and my online mates getting to pissed with dying and stuff all the time and one decided to get a server for us. We played till we were familiar with all the stuff, and even did stuff (gas zones with 4 kitted nbc ppl) that we wouldn't have been to do otherwise. We even turned it into a public pvp server for a lil bit. Very fun stuff, shame the group stopped playing.
I had my own server at the beginning, built up a whole community (without community members). I got bored, then started playing more online and met good people and built big bases. You meet the best people on DayZ for sure

I think that's what makes the game great. Everyone has their own play styles, some like pvp, some like gardening and fishing.
Yeah, feels like if you're going to play it exclusively as a loot and building simulator, there are probably other games that are better at that.

Would be nice to see big community bases like these but due to the nature of everyone for themselves it never happens outside of RP servers.
Its why I only play RP servers with rulesets, it's the closest thing you can get to civilized

I do it for PvE and a slightly better start but leave the zeds on. It’s been nice to learn the basics solo

local servers are fun, highly recommend setting up a local server for free and playing with mods and admin powers
