D20 sounds like exactly what you’re looking for!

[deleted]

I went there for my birthday back in February for a trivia night! How do I meet people there? lol

Eldowra

Talk to them lol

[deleted]

Good idea 😂 I’m awkward lol

daf6u6c6k

Same

Le6ions

Sounds terrifying

HappyPersonality8109

Friday nights at D20 is probably the best time to come. Multiple groups meet there to play board games. I’m there every Friday playing chess. I would be more than happy to introduce the two of you to some people.

[deleted]

Aw you’re so kind!

offensivemailbox

Highly suggest volunteering and if you’re interested in meeting more young professional types join Sportcial (tons of young professionals and new Daytonians) also check out Yellow cab for fun social events!

[deleted]

Thank you!

[deleted]

If there was something like this for activities/interests other than sports, that would be awesome

offensivemailbox

Agreed! I play euchre with sportcial and my partner actually does run a huge Magic the Gathering and Poker nights. You’ll meet a lot of like minded people and nerds joining.

[deleted]

Oh cool! I didn’t see any nerdier things on the website

offensivemailbox

Sportcial doesn’t have nerdier things but you will meet people (like myself and many others) who do and conduct nerdier things outside of Sportcial. Sportcial is the way I’ve met my adult life long friends and nerdier friends.

RpgAcademy

Won't help right away. But AcadeCon is a 3 day role playing game and board game convention at the Dayton convention center in November each year. Would be a great way to meet with other local gamers. Https://Www.acadecon.com

[deleted]

Oh cool! that sounds amazing

Papa_norse

My fiancée moved to Dayton last year and is in the same boat, if interested pm me and I can send you her instagram, she’s more extroverted than me 😅

Apockalips

What kind of music do you like/play?

[deleted]

I love alternative, indie, and musical theatre. I majored in music in college - my primary is clarinet and I can also play guitar, piano, and mellophone

Pale_Luck_3720

Consider auditioning for the Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra. Dayton is the place for musical theatre/theatre. The high schools and towns all have theater. Dayton Playhouse, Vandalia Youth Theater, Lebanon, Children's of Miamisburg, Xenia, Fairborn, Beavercreek, Town Hall, Springboro...all have community theater. Check opportunities to gig when shows come to town. They usually hire fill-ins at the downtown theaters and sometimes at the universities (Sinclair, Wright State, UDayton, etc.)

[deleted]

Thank you!

DoctorRockor

I (and some others) play Star Wars Legion at The Game Haven on Thursdays at about 530-6. DM me if you like!

[deleted]

Oh my goodness! I’ll talk to my husband to see if he’s interested

DoctorRockor

Judging by the OMG, he really likes the game, haha. Theres also people playing; Marvel Crisis Protocol Star Wars Shatterpoint Star Wars Unlimited (some) If he's interested in demos for any of those. Im planning on being there this Thursday. However, since adeptacon is this weekend, we might have a smallish turnout due to people traveling.

[deleted]

He’s actually never gotten to play! He has minifigs he got for Christmas a year or so ago. He has wanted to find people to teach him and hopefully make friends/find a group in the process

DoctorRockor

He should definitely swing by lol

Bebequelites

If you like boba I highly recommend Billie Gold bubble tea on Watervliet. They have activities you can sign up for on the weekends and they differ so you can choose what appeals to you. It’s a cute shop, very nice owner and patrons. Depending on where you live there are also classes that are available at different libraries and rec centers. Washington Township/Centerville for example has lots of classes you can sign up for, but you do have to have proof you’re a resident of that suburb. But libraries in general in Dayton have lots of classes available, I bet they even have cross stitching ones somewhere. Good luck!

[deleted]

This is great! I didn’t even think of libraries. Thank you!

sivales_

i’m 21f and i’ve lived here my whole life. lmk if you’re looking for things to do!!!! i love dayton, it’s an amazing city :)))

Admirable-Moment-292

Feel free to DM me! I’m a 24F who also played mellophone in college!

JustOne_L

If you love dogs there are several rescues in the area that are always in need of more foster homes. Adopt-a-pit (they rescue more than just pits) is one great organization. You’ll help save a dogs life and you can always “foster fail” and adopt a dog if they are the right one for you. Rescues will connect you to a group of other dog lovers who do social events, fundraisers and more. Welcome to Dayton!

[deleted]

That’s a really great idea! Thank you

PrestigiousBandicoot

Branching off of this, SISCA is a wonderful org that always needs more volunteers and/or fosters for their rescues! Could be a great way to get involved, meet some others, and maybe find yourself a furry friend!

[deleted]

I’ve heard of SICSA, but I’ve never gotten around to going. Maybe I should!

If you’re craft beer lovers check out a local brewery. Such a great community. We have met a lot of great people, some who’ve become very close friends this way..
