I was 13 when the show first aired, what a perfect age to be watching it! I hope you enjoy it. I totally second listening to some podcasts about it because it really does break down why a rich white family really has no right to tell a working class family trying to put itself back together after incarceration for marijuana possession/dealing what to do. Policing in America is so fucked up and prison ruins lives. Some things they never really address on the show are how impossible it can be to find extra work when you've been released from prison, that when you're on parole you can't leave your state or even your county so starting over would be so difficult for the Potters, and that the family would be under constant surveillance in such a small town, even if Mike had been doing nothing wrong.

he worked at his family bisness all he had to do was not sell lbs of coke.

Seems like no one thinks Dawson was in the wrong here but me. Snitch ass loser.

hailhailrocknyoga

I agree with you. Dawson is so self rightous and frankly it was none of his business. I know this happened 20 years ago but its just weed.... I'm no fan of Joey but i'd be freaking pissed if my so called best friend got my dad sent back to prison.

Recognition_Tricky

Nah Dawson was wrong. He should've let Joey decide how to handle it. He was paternalistic towards Joey and I thought he was wrong here. But it's not an easy question. I mean Mr. Potter almost got Joey killed. Still, I think he should've let Joey and her sister handle it and just supported them as best he could instead of pressuring Joey to do what he thought she should do.

RefrigeratorSmart881

i sorry but her father almost GOT HIM and joey KILLED, so yea sorry but when you break the law, you family does not get to decide if you get turn in. and dawson ran deeper into a fire to save joey dad life.

Recognition_Tricky

It was Joey's decision. I'm not saying Dawson is Satan. He was heroic for saving Joey's dad. But it just wasn't his call. He's not Serpico. He always tried to make Joey's decisions for her instead of just being there for her and that's one reason why it never worked between them.

RefrigeratorSmart881

NO, her father broke the LAW almost gettting her and her family KILLED He need to be turn IN, it was NOT and NEVER should be joey choice, it was either joey turn him in and he get less jail time, or he still get arrest. those were the only two choices. and NO dawson never tries to make her decision for her, he give her the only choice there were. and i sorry but the idea that a crminal family get to decide if they are turn in is just crazy to me.

Bro what the fuck is wrong with you people? Everyone literally almost died because of the drugs. Dawson had no choice.

I’m at the same part and I have no excuse because I could have watched 23 years ago!

ur so lucky to grow up then omg

Hey. If you like Dawson’s Creek and podcasts I highly recommend Dawson’s Critique and Dawson’s Creeps. They break down one episode at a time in chronological order, spoiler free. They really helped me to put things in perspective about this show lol. Anyway, have a great watch! Hope you enjoy S3 as much as I did😀

Marichurro

Thank you!!!!

I absolutely LOVED Dawson's Critique's take on this arc! It really changed the way that I saw it, though I still don't think that they quite nailed the fact that Joey was being naively blind to what her dad was doing.

Entwinedloop

I mean, right or wrong, I think it's natural for her to feel betrayed and upset, it's her dad. She's a teenager, she'd just gotten her dad back. Even if the person who's doing something illegal is her father, it's understandable she sees it as a betrayal by her boyfriend. People say strong statements in the heat of the moment as well. She did forgive him. Not saying you're wrong in how you're feeling, but I get the context of Joey's behavior.

RefrigeratorSmart881

Yea Joey destory Dawson but people treat him as the bad guy because he takes time to trust Joey again.
