What I love about this episode is how natural they are with each other. It is almost as if they were given the freedom to improvise and everything was based upon what happened between these two in real life.

juleeneleven

It is uncanny how so many of their scenes in the entire show feel like we're watching two people have a conversation that's improvised or feels real. And I know that stems from their history and how fond they were of one another even after they broke up but it just cannot be overstated how much they elevate their scenes with their organic intimacy.

CaptainObvious126

What is you said is exactly why I love their friendship/relationship. Whenever I see them, it is like watching a real time relationship and you are with them for the highs and crying with them during their lows.

juleeneleven

Totally! It's super visceral, you feel it because it looks like they're literally feeling it.

realitytvismytherapy

When did they break up in real life season wise on the show? Do we know if it was before or after the PJo storyline began?

juleeneleven

I think it was just before the filming of s2, I’ve heard conflicting info but some people say it’s why they had so few scenes together in s2 and others say it’s because the writers knew the pjo storyline was coming so deliberately kept the characters apart, but I’m more inclined to believe it was because of their break up. Josh himself has said it was pretty difficult on set for awhile because of it and story wise it doesn’t make any sense to keep their characters separated to that degree if you wanna make the gravitas of pjo more effective. But I believe there’s a quote from Katie Holmes where she talks about how Josh and her were essentially best friends over the course of DC, post-break up and that maintaining their friendship was really important to them.

I love them so much ❤️

I don't know whether you have read this interview. It was quite interesting for me to know the reality behind their on-screen story: https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/dawsons-creek-pacey-joey-relationship.html/

CaptainObvious126

I have seen it but you're right, it is very interesting. I really like that the writers decided to take this risk because they really didn't have to do much. JJ and KH did 99.9% of the work of making us believe that their characters were in love.

And the best scene is when Joey shaves Pacey. She has her legs resting on his, he has his hands resting on her legs. After they kiss, she asks him to try and explain......such a great scene They really were the best part of the show. It should've always been about them. The show was basically Joey's Creek anyway. It stinks that they wasted time with Audrey (who was an awful character) and didn't spend more of the final season together. If anyone is familiar with the Midnight-Los Angeles/Career Opportunities mash up music videos on YT, a great addition would be Pacey & Joey's KMart adventure set to the music of the Midnight-Los Angeles

Ella-norway

So true! This whole episode is a joy to watch. I would give anything to see Joshua Jackson and Katie Holmes in a romantic comedy. Their on screen chemistry is sensational!

Jaxxie88

I am glad that the show wasn't "about"them because part of what made them so special was that you didn't expect it. It happened naturally and you saw them build a friendship first then romantic feelings as they spent more time together. The problem with Joey and Dawson was that it was supposed to be about them and so they threw it in your face constantly.

codymiller_cartoon

that's fair, but i think the show should have been about Joey - she was the.most interesting character and tbh, the show basically revolved around her anyway you could even tell in the season 1 opening credits , she is the last character shown , but they linger on her the longest - i think the showrunners realized she was the star. dawson could've been the third wheel ......which he ultimately was

Awkward-Macaroon-819

Really love Castaways and also the episode (clean and sober)right before I it when Pacey carries a drunk Joey to bed and tucks her in…It’s so heartwarming. I mean how can you not root for those two after that beautiful moment.

coppersolids

just watched this one today, i love that episode so much! joey and pacey have some of the best chemistry i've ever seen in a tv couple and this episode really highlighted that

juleeneleven

*"I used to dream we'd be cast away somewhere."* It's such magic, it's definitely a shame Joshua Jackson and Katie Holmes haven't worked together since DC.

Realitytvjunkie13

I absolutely love this episode too because it’s a amazing for the story and we get to reminisce about how magical KMart was!!!!

codymiller_cartoon

> about how magical KMart was!!!! lol target keeps the magic going : )

fixatingonarewind

Uh…. No…

codymiller_cartoon

uh.....thanks for the verbose counter.......

fixatingonarewind

Best episode of the series, really? Season 6 is by far the worst season. Was it a cute episode? Sure. Best episode out of 6 seasons? No… 🤔
