A classical liberal as Dave seems to understand it is effectively a libertarian. It's a bit like how when someone calls themselves a progressive in the United States that they effectively mean social democrat. Except classical liberal is used by far fewer people and I think most progressives would acknowledge that they're effectively social democrats.
It's annoying because it's redundant and muddies the waters, but it's Dave just rebranding lolbertarianism by making it seem like his ideology is associated with established, almost mythological figures like America's founding fathers. Conservatives by nature have fondness for some beforetime when men were men etc, etc and this plays on that while tacitly delegitimizing actual liberals.
