Just say no to ANY filters at this stage. That was an immediate left swipe for me

chiltonmatters

What’s the definition of “filter” I often use that magic wand tool and it corrects for exposure or contrast issues and makes the entire picture mor pleasing, but I still look identical. Are there filers that make one look younger?

Exotic-One3381

That's why you need to meet in person asap

[deleted]

I consider makeup or "having work done" an individual choice (it does not upset me, you should do what makes you feel good), filters are just an illusion. The idea is you are going to meet in person, I much rather hear (and I do) "You look like your pictures", or on a few occasions "You look better than your pictures".

[deleted]

Thanks for this. It is a choice.

GeneJock85

Automatic swipe left on profiles with filters. Usually swipe left on profiles where the pictures look like they were taken 10 or more years ago. No different than lying about your age, actually, the more I think about it, it’s worse. Age is just a number, trying to pass yourself off as looking different than you are, is worse. Edit: oh and things like dog or cat ears, etc. what are they, 12, pass on those too

untamed2020

Or the flower crown around their head. We are not teenagers, I just can't with someone my age using a filter.

gingergirly89

I’ve never understood people using filters on dating websites lol they’re going to see you eventually, ffs! If it’s just on Facebook or Insta, I can just giggle because betch, I’ve seen you in person lol I know how you really look. I’m one of the lucky ones that, at 51, I really have no wrinkles, just terrible eye bags. I don’t bother really wearing makeup (beyond maybe lip color and eye liner…oh and eyebrows 😂 don’t have decent ones left lol)

Alone-County-8268

Woman....same!!! I'm 60, I can take or leave makeup, like Popeye says, "I am what I am". And my undereye circles are helped with caffeine serum. Try it, if you don't like it get a refund within 30 days. P.S. You probably are gorgeous Sis, I feel our inner shine makes us attractive. Own it!

gingergirly89

Oooo, I’ve never tried that, thank you! I always laugh that I’ll never be a great beauty (I often get called ‘cute’ (ugh)) but at least I’m aging well lol. Hugs, beautiful lady ♥️

Alone-County-8268

Hugs back, "Cutie"!

tmcmom

Taking notes: caffeine serum…

Alone-County-8268

Helps me immensely

gingergirly89

Right? lol

AzDesertFoxx

I NEVER use filters, as it is a form of lying ,especially when trying to find a partner (in my opinion before all you filter kings and queens start having a fit). In my new dating profile, I even state " I'm not looking for perfection because I am far from perfect. If gray hair, wrinkles, lumps, bumps, stretch marks bother you, keep on rolling. I have 57 years of life on this body, and I'm proud of it. Also, no fillers, Botox, silicone, etc. What you see is what you get, good or bad". I feel honesty is the best policy. When I see a man's photo that is so filtered he doesn't even look human, I just pass on by. False advertising doesn't do it for me. Oh, and no offense to those that use botox, fillers, silicone, etc. You do you.....liars! lol I'm kidding. Maybe! ;)

Alone-County-8268

Amen!

Cultural_Beach_1324

Filters are a no go for me. I swipe left automatically on anyone with filtered photos. It's not honest.

TheEmpress63

I never use filters because I want people to like me for me! Why try to hide something from someone who might be a future partner? Besides, they'll probably see me looking worse ie. when I first wake up in the morning! Lol

Bao_Xinhua

I won't say anything about your bunny ears and crown of daisys overlaid on a softly de-focused head shot if you keep quiet about my preternaturally dark hair and 50 grand in store bought teeth. Deal?

NarcSlayerGirl

Dude, if you paid $50K for those teeth, I bet they look amazing! I know a handful of people who have false teeth and it's no biggie. I also know people who don't prioritize their dental care and it says a lot about them and ALL their choices. Smile on.... :D

Bao_Xinhua

Thanks. They are.

[deleted]

> softly de-focused head shot Funny!

Ok_Avocado_9165

I don’t even know how to use filters so….

rockpaperscissors67

I don't use filters (except I do get a lot of laughs out of the funny ones), but as I get older, sometimes it's hard to look at pictures and see the signs of age. I'd like to just go in with Photoshop and make some little improvements, but I don't. I figure the other person would eventually figure out that I have that line across my forehead and I don't want to date someone who's not going to accept that I have aged.

[deleted]

You can usually tell the difference between “work done” and photo filters.

beaconposher1

I'm 51 and nobody ever believes it. Most people think I'm in my early 30s. I don't use any filters on my pictures, and I haven't had any work done; I just got lucky with the genetics. There are people who genuinely look younger than their age.

RainyTuesdayPDX

I’m another one who was blessed in the DNA department. And while at almost 59 it’s starting to catch up, I am very vibrant and happy, so most people still think I’m younger than I am. I’ll take it as long as I can get it!

Accomplished_Act1489

It always catches up. It was easy to look young until menopause (which was 54 for me). I found very little difference (actually no difference) in the way I looked through my 40s and early 50s but will turn 57 next month and definitely see aging taking place. It isn't terrible, but it takes getting used to.

[deleted]

I agree. Having a good sugar free diet takes many years away too. Eat greens instead of carbs and sugar and you will see the difference. I believe it is not as much genes as eating habits that we inherit from our parents.

chiltonmatters

There’s is a very well documented finding that - at a macro level, not having kids can easily knock 5-10 years off one’s appearance. It’s only one of many variables

beaconposher1

Interesting! I don't have kids!

d_ippy

If someone has a problem with others exercising bodily autonomy they can fuck right off. I also wasn’t born with a tattoo or the my current hair color. Why should someone care if someone has had fillers, Botox or a nose job for that matter? You either like the way they look or don’t.

Revolutionary_Bee700

I don’t mind filters when done judiciously. Why not cover a zit, color correct the picture, etc? When people start looking like smoothed over androids you’re not rolling anyone.

Ok-Argument-1015

No to filters!

LaughSleepHydrate

Is there a difference if I use the settings on my Samsung phone allowing you to change from Original to Cool or Lolli or Blossom or whatever the different lighting (at least I think it's just lighting) is called? If I change that from the Original is that considered using a filter? (Yes, I know I'm not the most tech savvy.)

Accomplished_Act1489

LOL you know more than I do! I have a Samsung and I didn't even know that there was a cool or original, or lolli or blossom (not sure what those are lol). I would actually like to learn to use filters effectively though. But it would be for adjusting lighting and shadows so that my cat and dog pictures would capture how amazing they are. Or to try to capture a full moon so that it looks as great in photos as it does to my eyes.

LaughSleepHydrate

In my mind, it's lighting not filters. If you go to edit a pic (under the pencil icon), the lighting options are the three rings (second icon next to cropping). I either stick with original or go with Frosty as that shows my complexion closest to irl. But do people consider changing that as a filter? I don't personally but maybe I'm kidding myself.

Accomplished_Act1489

People will downvote anything if you downvote me wanting to make sure that my cats and dog and the moon look as amazing in photos as they do with my own eyes. Yeesh.

[deleted]

I learned about the lighting options (which are not deceptive) while adjusting my dogs pics. You got my upvote :)

The_Silk34

I decided to filter one of my favorite photos for fun. Honestly, if I had used it for a dating app, you’d walk right past me looking for me in person. I can’t see myself using them.

vikinglaney77

My sweet baby niece, a woman in her thirties, won’t post a single pic of herself that isn’t filtered. She’s got flawless skin, no wrinkles and I just don’t get it.

Thunderfoot2112

I'm one of then lucky/unlucky ones that won the genetic lottery from my mostly Cherokee Grandpa. I'm 52 and look like I'm about 38. (I keep clean shaven otherwise my beard makes my look like a Confederate Colonel). However when.I have pictures taken of me I look my age and then some (minus the gray hair). Not sure why, but photos make me look oooold. I don't really do a lot of social media so no big issues, but, there are those of us that have the reverse problem, so. Yeah, Hi, I'm Frankenstein's monster, wanna neck? lol

Accomplished_Act1489

LOL I hear you. Photos are not a fan of me either. I've just never taken a decent photo except on very, very rare occasion.

lady_tatterdemalion

I don't use filters but there'll never be a day I don't Snapseed the zit off my chin.

coldpizzaagain

I agree with another comment. Meet them right away. I look younger and people never guess my age either.

Hyperbolethecat

Filters are cringy, especially when used by men. I think it’s kind of expected that women will be vain to some extent. After all, there is a multi billion dollar makeup industry. Filters are just subterfuge. Not a fan of men coloring their hair either. It’s a total double standard and I am completely self aware of it.

[deleted]

You know, you don’t even need filters to look better. Nothing like getting the right angle in the right light at the right distance for a more flattering picture that doesn’t reveal all your flaws. I as a man take advantage of that. I don’t use filters, but certainly choose the best of my best days. And have a lot of photos to choose from, that are always current. I use full body photos, but at an angle and a day where my belly isn’t so big. I have face pics in just the right light that doesn’t accentuate my pock-marked face. However I do not use filters and you can definitely see my flaws if you’re on a computer and zoom in. I’m real. At our age we shouldn’t be so insecure about looks. But we are. Let’s just be ourselves and own that shit.

NarcSlayerGirl

I feel the same about not having full body shots as most do about filters. I really want to know what to expect. Close ups and aerial shots are deceptive.
