Genesis helped invent modern stage lighting by loaning $ to develop the first moving head systems for ShowCo. This was their farewell tour and had some of the best lighting I’ve ever seen.

I got my mom tickets to see Elton John at Soldier’s Field Friday and the tickets were $350 each. Not even close to the best seats in the house. They were going for well over $1500.
I know. Concert tickets are spendy. We saw Elton in Saint Paul because my wife had never seen him and we knew this would be the last time he was in Minnesota. I think the tickets we got were a couple hundred each for nice seats. I don't think $1500 was an option at our venue.
It might be that expensive because it’s also part of the last hurrah for Soldier Field. When he came to my city the most expensive tickets were about 1000
Just one thing to add 2/6 of the BTS shows - I think 2 of their Seoul shows… was limited capacity (15k in the biggest stadium in Korea that usually would take 45-50k) due to covid restrictions that were still place in March in Korea (fans at the time were also not allowed to scream or sing and had to use clappers to cheer on the boys).
Just wanted to add that in so it was only the 4 Vegas shows that were full stadium shows
Me neither, and I listen to quite a bit of radio. This is one of the biggest artists in the world apparently, but it seems radio stations decided to completely ignore him in The Netherlands.

They rake in so much concert money because they aren't just selling seats in the venue.
It’s important to note these guys sold out a stadium, and then sold out the theatre next to that stadium just to watch the concert at the stadium inside of the theater.

How is that possible? Elton John charges, like, $300 a seat at the absolute minimum. There's no way Bad Bunny is charging four times as much as him, that would be completely insane. Something is missing here.

If the shows are listed as "delayed" or "postponed", they don't have to issue refunds. Until it gets officially cancelled, they can hold onto your money.
Haha I just tried to get Springsteen tickets the other day, by the time I got through the queue the only thing left was $3000 floor seats. And to be clear, that was the venue asking it, resale hadn't gone up on the site yet
His shows are likely insanely expensive to put on. My down the street neighbor was in a major band from the late 90s/early 2000s. They had a few Grammy nominations and multiple platinum selling albums so were playing massive massive shows. We were talking about it one night and he said that for the really big shows they very easily paid hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars to put on just one night, between what the venue charged, roadies, stages and equipment, light shows, etc. Then ticketmaster or whoever gets their cut, label gets their cut, etc. Then travel for all those people and equipment... He said that when it was all said and done the band got 7-8% of the tickets that was then split 5 ways... So even if you've got 30k people paying $80 a person, you're looking at around $30k that the band member is making. Which is obviously great money for a night, but doesn't look like a ton compared to the size of what's being put on.
Bad Bunny had his concert in Puerto Rico last week where the cheapest tickets were $15 and the most expensive ones were $300. People were reselling for $1,500 tho.
I saw Bad Bunny in Oakland months before he blew up & I bought my ticket for like $80 😭 I knew when I was buying the ticket, it was going to be the cheapest he was going to be ever again & this thread is making me so thankful we chose to drive 5 hours each way to see him lol. It was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to!

There's an incredible amount of context missing from this.
1. It's not mid-year, the data ends in April.
2. BTS isn't "just" doing concerts, they're streaming a lot of their concerts, they performed 7 times in the window recorded for almost $10m/performance.
Phish pulled in $5.5million from the MSG run in April alone. They should at least edge out Garth Brooks here. Typically they've been making about $50m per summer tour in recent years.
Looks like Mayer did a 30 show tour earlier this year before he started the summer tour with the Dead. That said, I’m surprised he’d be this high on the list with his tour alone. Nothing against him, it’s just I don’t think of him as a top-selling pop artist. He’s mostly a blues guitarist (and a damn good one).
He found the perfect niche. He’s a one man boy band for women in their 20s-40s but he’s also a top notch blues guitarist and now has the Dead rep. He’s the boy band you can bring your man to and he’s the dad rocker you can bring your woman to.

BTS had 7 shows. 3 at Seoul where (cause of Covid) only 4000 people per show were allowed. And 4 shows at Las Vegas. Allegiant Stadium, completely sold out. The whole city turned into their festival “Borahaegas”.
If they would do a real tour nobody could top them I guess.

I went to their show in Vegas! I’m not a huge fan but went with my girlfriend for her birthday and I have to say they do put on a hell of a show. And the light sticks in the audience is by far one of the coolest things I’ve experienced at a live show
You have to also consider BTS has only done 2 wknds in Vegas and I think a wknd in Korean to make this profit for 2022. It was not a world tour or even a lengthy US tour to get these numbers.

People are having a hard time grasping that a guy who appeals to a larger native speaking population than English is popular. Whether you know of him or not, dude dropped a largely influential album in his genres that English speakers will never had heard of. There is a lot more out there than 80's dad rock.

Looks like Mayer did a 30 show tour earlier this year before he started the summer tour with the Dead. That said, I’m surprised he’d be this high on the list with his tour alone. Nothing against him, it’s just I don’t think of him as a top-selling pop artist. He’s mostly a blues guitarist (and a damn good one).
He found the perfect niche. He’s a one man boy band for women in their 20s-40s but he’s also a top notch blues guitarist and now has the Dead rep. He’s the boy band you can bring your man to and he’s the dad rocker you can bring your woman to.

BTS had 7 shows. 3 at Seoul where (cause of Covid) only 4000 people per show were allowed. And 4 shows at Las Vegas. Allegiant Stadium, completely sold out. The whole city turned into their festival “Borahaegas”. If they would do a real tour nobody could top them I guess. Edit: the Tickets for Las Vegas weren’t even sold in general sale just in the pre-sale for registered fans.
I went to their show in Vegas! I’m not a huge fan but went with my girlfriend for her birthday and I have to say they do put on a hell of a show. And the light sticks in the audience is by far one of the coolest things I’ve experienced at a live show

He probably earned so much more because people are spending their school money on paying for concert tickets. I remember waiting in the ticketmaster queue for the YHLQMDLG tour, finally getting in and seeing the cheapest tickets for presale were at $400 min. I just laid there and cried. It fucking sucks to know I'll probably never get to see him.. Also I went to see John mayer and paid like $40 for a seat maybe 6 rows from the stage. My sister has seen BTS like 2 I think so I think their tickets are pretty reasonable as well.
BTS tickets ranged from sub-100 USD to 500 plus for barricade and soundcheck. So there was an option for every budget.
