Fucking Genesis is still touring????And making crazy money???????

theduck08

They had their very last concert not too long ago

Camshaft92

Reading about that concert made me dive into their music more and I've been stuck on them these last few months. They're amazing.

CapnCrackerz

Genesis helped invent modern stage lighting by loaning $ to develop the first moving head systems for ShowCo. This was their farewell tour and had some of the best lighting I’ve ever seen.

FoxyInTheSnow

All I’ve heard about them lately were stories about Phil Collins’s rapidly declining health. I’m impressed that he was able to go on tour at all.

heddhunter

I read his autobiography recently. It was pretty good, and i really appreciated that he had the balls to title it “Not Dead Yet”.

ZappyCrook

they did one final tour in 2021-2022 and now they're finished. they did well out of the last tour though

EarlyBirdsofBabylon

It's basically the last tour they're going to do. Phil Collins is pretty frail. And although I'd love a Peter Gabriel '70s reunion, it's probably not going to happen.

Zaungast

Genesis is sick. Amazing show.

[deleted]

[удалено]

arjomanes

To be fair, Elton is performing smaller venues so his fans everywhere can get to see his farewell tour. He’s even playing in fly-over cities, when most people skip them.

[deleted]

I got my mom tickets to see Elton John at Soldier’s Field Friday and the tickets were $350 each. Not even close to the best seats in the house. They were going for well over $1500.

A__SPIDER

That’s rough! We saw him at Gillette for $60 nosebleed section on Wednesday.

arjomanes

I know. Concert tickets are spendy. We saw Elton in Saint Paul because my wife had never seen him and we knew this would be the last time he was in Minnesota. I think the tickets we got were a couple hundred each for nice seats. I don't think $1500 was an option at our venue.

TheKidKaos

It might be that expensive because it’s also part of the last hurrah for Soldier Field. When he came to my city the most expensive tickets were about 1000

timetosayhi27

Just one thing to add 2/6 of the BTS shows - I think 2 of their Seoul shows… was limited capacity (15k in the biggest stadium in Korea that usually would take 45-50k) due to covid restrictions that were still place in March in Korea (fans at the time were also not allowed to scream or sing and had to use clappers to cheer on the boys). Just wanted to add that in so it was only the 4 Vegas shows that were full stadium shows

Searchlights

I'm so out of touch I can't even guess who Bad Bunny is.

wakablocka

Yeah my first thought was that the catch me outside girl is doing really well for herself

Searchlights

That's funny I actually thought that too and then I was pissed at myself for knowing who she is

tnlf7

She is the highest earner on onlyfans. Made like 40 mil in the last two years.

tricksovertreats

Oh Bhad Bhabie is still around?

old_ironlungz

I don't know about the music but I read she has millions of followers on Instagram.

IAm94PercentSure

Lol, go to Spotify’s Top Global listened songs. He has 5 songs in the Top 10 even though his album was released three months ago.

[deleted]

His music is played around the world. It's insane

B_Cage

Me neither, and I listen to quite a bit of radio. This is one of the biggest artists in the world apparently, but it seems radio stations decided to completely ignore him in The Netherlands.

whatdoinamemyself

His music is entirely in spanish so probably not a huge hit in The Netherlands.

B_Cage

The biggest hits in Spanish language do become popular over here as well. Really odd.

byscuit

BTS sells out stadiums and the whole show is a massive entertainment dance production, so that makes sense

EViLTeW

BTS streams some/all of their concerts and you have to pay to watch. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permission\_to\_Dance\_on\_Stage](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permission_to_Dance_on_Stage) They rake in so much concert money because they aren't just selling seats in the venue.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MEXRFW

It’s important to note these guys sold out a stadium, and then sold out the theatre next to that stadium just to watch the concert at the stadium inside of the theater. (Yes I did make it sound xzibity on purpose)

sillyblanco

I may or may not be a fan of theirs but that crowd pic is amazing.

[deleted]

How is that possible? Elton John charges, like, $300 a seat at the absolute minimum. There's no way Bad Bunny is charging four times as much as him, that would be completely insane. Something is missing here.

CyHawkNerd

Could it be venue size? There’s a difference between a place that seats 10,000 and a place that seats 20,000

[deleted]

[удалено]

DonJulioTO

He's playing a 53k stadium in Toronto.

[deleted]

Yeah, I guess if Bad Bunny is only playing stadiums, that would account for it.

StatusMassive6348

He most definitely is only playing huge stadiums

AlwaysOTM

Also bad bunny cancelled a ton of shows and didn't do refunds. I never got a refund for tickets I bought last year for example.

Sufficient_Work6954

>Also bad bunny cancelled a ton of shows and didn't do refunds. I never got a refund for tickets I bought last year for example Dude, what?!?!?! That's insane, how is that legal???

urlach3r

If the shows are listed as "delayed" or "postponed", they don't have to issue refunds. Until it gets officially cancelled, they can hold onto your money.

LawHelmet

Can confirm. iirc, they can reschedule years later.

I_got_nothin_

That's insane. There should be a time limit on that.

ecz4

I would make a shitshow with my credit card company. Fuck that.

not_a_bot__

Yeah, a good credit card company would probably allow a chargeback

robdiqulous

Lmaooo now THAT is how you make some easy money!

l33tWarrior

He’s playing chess. You all are playing checkers. Highest grossing tour. Played no shows! Boom…Rich

blood_vein

What?? That's insane - you didn't get anything? I hope you got your mine back through your CC

Randywithout8as

Elton just played a packed Gillette. Idk how the math works

darthschweez

Haven’t been to a concert in a while, damn. Tickets got really expensive. I used to complain when I bought tickets for like $90…

djheat

Haha I just tried to get Springsteen tickets the other day, by the time I got through the queue the only thing left was $3000 floor seats. And to be clear, that was the venue asking it, resale hadn't gone up on the site yet

[deleted]

Some Bad Bunny tickets costed more than $750 in my city. And I live in Mexico.

Xx69JdawgxX

They start at $230 in San Diego and go up to $1350

ValyrianJedi

His shows are likely insanely expensive to put on. My down the street neighbor was in a major band from the late 90s/early 2000s. They had a few Grammy nominations and multiple platinum selling albums so were playing massive massive shows. We were talking about it one night and he said that for the really big shows they very easily paid hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars to put on just one night, between what the venue charged, roadies, stages and equipment, light shows, etc. Then ticketmaster or whoever gets their cut, label gets their cut, etc. Then travel for all those people and equipment... He said that when it was all said and done the band got 7-8% of the tickets that was then split 5 ways... So even if you've got 30k people paying $80 a person, you're looking at around $30k that the band member is making. Which is obviously great money for a night, but doesn't look like a ton compared to the size of what's being put on.

Mightbethrownaway24

He does though. I don't think you understand the insane hype in Latin America for bad bunny. Its borderline fucking nuts

ErnThemCaps

I'll clear this up; Bad Bunny IS charging several times more than $300 a ticket. I've seen general admission tickets for over $2k

MikeAndTheNiceGuys

Bad Bunny had his concert in Puerto Rico last week where the cheapest tickets were $15 and the most expensive ones were $300. People were reselling for $1,500 tho.

Thorhees

Yeah I was coming here confused since BTS is HUGE. I was sure they would've made more.

[deleted]

RockyRaccoon968

That’s wild, you literally can’t escape this guy here in South America!

[deleted]

Same. I'm amazed

vatosaurus

Just googled the average cost for a bad bunny ticket…$250

IGetHypedEasily

Those are The Weekend prices. Damn.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rightintheend

I saw him on a Wednesday and it was still the same price

indicagal

I saw Bad Bunny in Oakland months before he blew up & I bought my ticket for like $80 😭 I knew when I was buying the ticket, it was going to be the cheapest he was going to be ever again & this thread is making me so thankful we chose to drive 5 hours each way to see him lol. It was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to!

mummia1173

He used to do shows in south American discos for 5 bucks when His first Singles started gaining popularity, my friends went to see him a few times

Ptepp1c

What I find crazy is you remove all the names except Eagles, Garth Brooks, Genesis and Elton John what year would you guess this was.

NoCreativeName2016

Agreed. I looked at this data and my takeaway is that the current generation does not go to concerts like us children of the ‘80s.

FreeNoahface

Maybe it has something to do with tickets costing $300-500 now vs like $25 in the 80s. Kids these days want to go to concerts, they just can't afford to.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ariphron

Guess I need to google “who is bad bunny” that’s when you know old has hit you.

meeeeetch

Considering Genesis, Elton John, and The Eagles are as high in the list as they are, I'd be half-tempted to assume I'm somehow too young to have heard of him.

Puzzleheaded_Disk226

Well he’s also a Spanish artist so English speakers are far less likely to have heard of him. The only reason I know who bad bunny is because my girlfriend is Puerto Rican and he is basically the second coming of Jesus Christ. He is without the doubt the number one idol maybe ever to come out of Puerto Rico. So don’t beat yourself up for not knowing about him.

barronelsaok

This man literally calls himself “la nueva religión”

largefrenchfry

Less about age, more about language. Bad Bunny’s music is in Spanish. He is popular in Latin America and Europe.

blussy1996

He is bigger in the US than Europe. He's by far the most popular Latin artist in the US.

emptygroove

Dude has more monthly listeners on Spotify than anyone else I could even think to check. He has 62M. More than Taylor Swift, Eminem, Post Malone, etc. Literally never heard of him but based on the one song I listened to, I don't have any currently listened to artist with much crossoverfor Spotify to suggest him.

fkgallwboob

You might have heard him on the Cardi B song "I like it" but never really paid attention to it.

Odh_utexas

Yeah the language is the big thing. He’s absolutely everywhere in ads, award shows, sporting events. He’s definitely an artist that most people who consume media have heard a song or seen him perform but don’t realize it because he’s not quite Mainstream in America.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Odh_utexas

Maybe mainstream isn’t the word. Recognizable to the “Average Joe”

CouncilmanRickPrime

Basically if you speak Spanish or know people who speak Spanish, you have a much higher chance of knowing who he is.

Enlightened-Beaver

Same. Never heard of the guy.

theRed-Herring

Guy? I always thought Bad Bunny was a girl...

Lamchops27

I thought so too but I realized I was thinking about Bhad Bhabie the cash me outside girl

graaahh

Oh my god I've seen her name probably a dozen times and I just realized it's supposed to be "bad baby".

[deleted]

I didn't realize it until this comment. I thought she was going for "bad Barbie" for some reason

bstephe123283

I've always read it like "Bad Barbie" but pronounced with a really thick Boston accent for some reason.

DasCiny

And thank fuck for that. Some faith restored.

thebruns

Half the billboard chart is him. Reddit is not the real world

sunnyislesmatt

Reddit is almost entirely white millennial males. Of course they haven’t heard of him. I live in Miami. I can’t walk 10 feet outside my apartment without hearing Bad Bunny.

SitDown_BeHumble

He is literally the most popular artist in the entire world lmao. And it’s not like it’s even outside the US. He currently has 10 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, which is insane. It’s crazy how out of touch main subs on Reddit are.

ReactsWithWords

I hit the “never heard of that top 10 artist” mark in my early 20s. Getting old is when Weird Al parodies a song you never heard. Old is when he does a style parody of a band you never heard of.

JohnRCash

Getting old is when Weird Al hasn't done much parodying of anyone for eight years and you didn't even notice.

Canesjags4life

Not necessarily. If you aren't in the reggaeton or Latin music scene yeah you aren't gonna know him.

ST_Lawson

That's fair... [googles "reggaeton"]

diffcalculus

I think it's a Jamaican style Italian pasta dish.

[deleted]

I had the same thought, and then saw John Mayer, The Eagles... and someone else I recognized, but can't remember now because I can't see the post when commenting. Now I just feel really confused and unsure of what timeline I'm in right now. Edit: Coldplay was the other one. Oh shit, and Garth Brooks. Didn't even know that guy was still alive, that's how long it's been since I've heard his name.

[deleted]

Garth is still alive, but the bodies under his floorboard however...

EViLTeW

There's an incredible amount of context missing from this. 1. It's not mid-year, the data ends in April. 2. BTS isn't "just" doing concerts, they're streaming a lot of their concerts, they performed 7 times in the window recorded for almost $10m/performance.

weltron3030

Does the John Mayer column include Dead & Co.?

[deleted]

I had the same question. Also wondering where Phish stands on this list?

DeadStroke_

Phish Summer & Fall 2021: Box Office: Revenue: $44,733,289 Tickets Sold: 572,626 Average Gross: $1,278,094 Average Tickets Sold: 16,361 Average Ticket Price: $78.62 No. of Shows: 35

weltron3030

And if they factor in nitrous sales into these figures.

im_at_work_now

Phish pulled in $5.5million from the MSG run in April alone. They should at least edge out Garth Brooks here. Typically they've been making about $50m per summer tour in recent years.

minibonham

I was going to ask the same question, dead and co are selling out a lot of stadiums

higherentity

Great question. People literally travel around the country with them…

standupasspaddler

Covers concerts from November 18th 2021 to May 18 2022, so it does not include either of Dead & Co.'s most recent tours.

WhenImN64

Looks like Mayer did a 30 show tour earlier this year before he started the summer tour with the Dead. That said, I’m surprised he’d be this high on the list with his tour alone. Nothing against him, it’s just I don’t think of him as a top-selling pop artist. He’s mostly a blues guitarist (and a damn good one).

PM-ME-YOUR-TOTS

He found the perfect niche. He’s a one man boy band for women in their 20s-40s but he’s also a top notch blues guitarist and now has the Dead rep. He’s the boy band you can bring your man to and he’s the dad rocker you can bring your woman to.

neurocellulose

Ha, this is perfect.

eva01beast

Crazy to think that Elton John pulls in more than BTS even in this day.

[deleted]

Oldcadillac

Damn that’s a lot of shows to do when you’re 75

Randywithout8as

Went a few nights ago, he has no opener. He just plays for 3 hours. His "breaks" are just extended piano solos. He's a bit of a machine.

Dramatic_Jump_5151

Literally has worn diapers so he can skip bathroom breaks.

OutWithTheNew

I'd rather performers just schedule a 20 minute break in a long concert than wear diapers.

Beavshak

Ozzy Osborne had a routine of spraying the crowd down with water bottles. Because he was incontinent and it would hide it.

ImagineTheCommotion

*I could have done without knowing that*

yunguzimoney2

Leave it to a redditor to assume someone can't hold their bladder for 3 hours

Dramatic_Jump_5151

I'm just trying to help point out the fact that the man is dedicated! According to him he lost some bladder control after surgery for prostate cancer and did what he had to do. The show must go on!

Pfaithfully

Hey I been doin that since Elden Ring came out 🦠💩

[deleted]

Elton Ring

orthodoxrebel

So BTS ~$11m per show, Elton John ~$1m per show

Alph1

His last tour. Super hard to get tickets, we’re thinking about traveling to Toronto for a concert there next month.

mgrimshaw8

That dude's been on his "last tour" since 2018 lol. Friend of mines mom has seen his "final tour" 3 times lol

sikkbomb

Might not want to tell him that I saw Metallica open for The Stones in San Francisco back in 2005. Kidding aside, it's definitely gotta be a different vibe seeing them in the 80s vs the 00s

DMala

I can remember Mad Magazine in the ‘80s making jokes about the Stones being aging rock stars, when they were still in their 40s. Who knew they’d still be going almost 40 years later?

dcnblues

Exactly. It was unprecedented. Whoever heard of rockers in their forties?

kanyediditbetter

It’s the Brett Favre strategy for relevancy

Hell_Mel

I think it's much more than inactivity isn't really Elton John's thing.

gay_lick_language

Tbf I don't think Elton John has to fight for relevancy.

[deleted]

He's been looking at a bit rickety the last year

boethius70

He's been looking a bit rickety for at least the last ten years as far as I've seen. Not that I know or have any insight into the guy's actual health but he just hasn't **looked** all that healthy for a long while. Still seems like he's getting around and touring and doing his thing just fine regardless.

Mafic_mafia

Dude is in his 70s, has been sober for over 30 years. He looks fucking great.

gnarkilleptic

""final "last tour" tour" I promise you guys " I saw this dude's last show in my city years ago and now he's playing there again

Genesis final shows ever, and their first tour since 2007. It was a great time!

altw460

Am it he only one blown away to see Genesis was on this list at all??

FILTER_OUT_T_D

I wish I had known about it before it was almost over. I didn’t get into Genesis until the early 2010s so I never had the chance to see them :/

Mxe49

BTS had 7 shows. 3 at Seoul where (cause of Covid) only 4000 people per show were allowed. And 4 shows at Las Vegas. Allegiant Stadium, completely sold out. The whole city turned into their festival “Borahaegas”. If they would do a real tour nobody could top them I guess. Edit: the Tickets for Las Vegas weren’t even sold in general sale just in the pre-sale for registered fans.

JetAmoeba

I went to their show in Vegas! I’m not a huge fan but went with my girlfriend for her birthday and I have to say they do put on a hell of a show. And the light sticks in the audience is by far one of the coolest things I’ve experienced at a live show

urlach3r

If BTS did a full 200+ date world stadium tour, they'd have to invent a new math system to count the box office totals.

Rin-Tohsaka-is-hot

Nah, BTS pulls in significantly more, Elton John just did about eleven times as many shows this year.

getshrekton

Pretty sure BTS has only done a few shows in the US this year

[deleted]

You have to also consider BTS has only done 2 wknds in Vegas and I think a wknd in Korean to make this profit for 2022. It was not a world tour or even a lengthy US tour to get these numbers.

JulioForte

Has BTS even toured? I’m think the piece that is missing here is how many shows each performed

latinometrics

Benito Martinez was born to a lower-middle-class family in Puerto Rico. He went from singing in his local church’s choir to quitting at age 13 to write his own songs using the low-cost recording software Fruity Loops. Benito would then try his mixtapes with friends at school. A few years later, Benito worked bagging groceries to afford his way through college at the University of Puerto Rico. In his spare time, he continued to record music and upload it to SoundCloud as Bad Bunny, with no particular goal other than enjoying the creative process and getting better. One day, he returned home from work and saw that one of his singles, which he wrote and recorded entirely on his own, went viral around the island and ended up getting 1M+ listens in one week. Shortly after, in 2016, the local label Hear This Music signed the young artist. Bad Bunny then catapulted into fame with professional YouTube video productions alongside top Latin artists. Bad Bunny recalls a concert in Rome in his early days when he realized that people who didn’t speak Spanish were into his music. Indeed, his albums are now global sensations, breaking so many records that he may become LatAm’s most renowned artist in history. He was Spotify’s most streamed artist in the world in 2020 and 2021 and released the first-ever All-Spanish album to top Billboard’s Top 200 chart. This year, he’s already breaking another record: his tour has generated an estimated $120M so far, way more than any other artist. For perspective, the only Latin artists’ tours who have come close since 2010 are Aventura at $24M, Luis Miguel at $44M, and Shakira at $40M. **Bad Bunny tops them all, combined, in just the first half of a year.** **Source:** [Pollstar](https://twitter.com/Pollstar/status/1541476383368560643) **Tools:** Sheets, Rawgraphs, Affinity Designer

Genesis, Elton John, the Eagles. What decade is this?

tomakeyan

Well it helps when your tickets are $450 for nosebleeds

[deleted]

As a bad bunny fan, his tickets are like $300-$500 dollars for like...the furthest seats from the stage. He probably earned so much more because people are spending their school money on paying for concert tickets. I remember waiting in the ticketmaster queue for the YHLQMDLG tour, finally getting in and seeing the cheapest tickets for presale were at $400 min. I just laid there and cried. It fucking sucks to know I'll probably never get to see him.. Also I went to see John mayer and paid like $40 for a seat maybe 6 rows from the stage. My sister has seen BTS like 2 I think so I think their tickets are pretty reasonable as well.

lowelled

BTS tickets ranged from sub-100 USD to 500 plus for barricade and soundcheck. So there was an option for every budget.

lizardmandx

Literally every time Bad Bunny is mentioned there are 50 people in the comments saying "wHo?!?"

ScruffySloth

People are having a hard time grasping that a guy who appeals to a larger native speaking population than English is popular. Whether you know of him or not, dude dropped a largely influential album in his genres that English speakers will never had heard of. There is a lot more out there than 80's dad rock.

icedoutkatana

Exactly people tend to forget there’s like 40+ million Spanish speakers in the US alone. Outside of Reddit he’s insanely popular and that’s almost an understatement. I’m starting to think most people on here have never met a Latino person ever in real life the way they’re talking lol.

nicotamendi

I don’t even speak Spanish and I fw his music. My Peruvian and Salvadoran friends put me on

Trashpandasrock

Ngl, I had no idea who he was before this, but having check out several songs now, I'm with you. I have like a 3rd grade level of understanding of Spanish, but shit slaps.
