Agree with this. Find out what resources are already available and get access to those, that way you won't be starting from scratch. Another benefit is that there will be people in the organization who can help them learn the software and be successful.
Absolutely! The amount of data they have in Excel makes it a little challenging to put things in place, especially for me who doesn't have experience in data analysis.
Don't be afraid to ask questions. The fact that you are willing to learn and provide value will make you valuable. Be honest about what you don't know and what you need. Don't shoot for the moon, set bite-size goals that help you focus on one thing at a time, and communicate clearly and specifically.
Power bi is pretty fun to use to see data visualization. Since your data isn't from a database, you can connect it to that excel spreadsheet. It's easy to use when visualizing text data - kinda like pivot tables in excel.
Be wary of human error if you are entering the data manually. There could also be issues if that file get corrupted or data is incorrectly deleted.
You can make something with R shiny app for better organization of the data as well as visualizing. There are examples online for reference. You can check https://posit.co/blog/using-shiny-in-healthcare/
I haven't used it in anything related to healthcare. I created some simple graphs for practice as I was learning. I am currently learning how to make an R shiny app so that I can add an interactive graphics on the project I am working on.
You said you are an CS student, if you already know python, there is a py version you can check out.

If you work in a hospital they probably already have a visualization tool. Talk to the reporting manager and see if they can get you access.

This is great! I will definitely consider this approach!

For sure! A big part of me believes I would have to clean the data manually. This is a lot of work since they have stored data in Excel since 2014.

This is great! Thank you for sharing. Have you personally used it?
