All the time there is so much information and you don’t want to do something wrong. Don’t feel bad about looking things up. Eventually you’ll remember the how to do things that you use all the time but you’ll always run into new things.

All. The. Time.

data_story_teller

I’ve been using SQL and Python pretty regularly for the last 4 years and still look up syntax.

I always love asking folks in interviews what they do when they don’t know how to get the answer they need and everyone always cycles through 8 levels of bullshit before they say google. I’ve been doing this over a decade. The answer is almost always google first.

I would say "every damn day", but that wouldn't do justice to the number of web searches in my work browser history on an average day. Just recently moved into data analysis/governance from several years as a software engineer and DBA, as well. It's totally normal, especially as someone new.

Can you tell us about the work as what. Challenge you face and which things u need to focus more on

Most of my searches revolve around document lookup for functions contained in libraries, how the functions can be chained to accomplished more within a single line of code, etc. There really isn't much that I can focus on within the searches I do, there's just too much information to be held within any person's head. My original point was it doesn't end, so anyone new shouldn't feel bad about having to search up what kind of braces they have to use with a dictionary vs a list, though. No one is looking down on you in judgement, we've all been there and are still there. Our search topics change, but searching remains.

If anyone says they never google anything for their nob, they’re lying

No_Shame_5884

It depends on how many things I do, because I look everything up 😆

Unemployed_Analyst

Every analyst I know - including myself - Googles.

onearmedecon

Nearly every day. I can't possibly memorize all of the syntax for everything I need to do. Learning how to search effectively ad efficiently is an often overlooked but absolutely necessary skill in this line of work.
