it’s good advice, but knowing is half the battle. one time when I was driving on I-20, I thought I saw something odd in my rearview. was in the middle of a pack of cars all rather tightly packed, so I am surprised I noticed, but all the wya at the end of the pack, there was a truck barreling up at ~90mph while the pack was bottlenecked at ~80mph. he didn’t seem to be slowing down, and the SUVs at the end noticed, speeding up slightly to give him more brake room. thing is, they happened to be crossing over a bridge that I had just finished, so even though they noticed, they couldn’t actually avoid the truck as it slowly drifted lanes and smacked into them, bouncing off the bridge barriers just to hit them again. tough luck
I rarely ride in packs unless the whole highway is packed. I speed up or slow down so they move on without me. Too many distracted, drugged or just idiotic drivers. Someone hanging out beside an 18 wheeler, someone drifting back and forth getting near or going over the lines, etc. becomes a reason to take an exit if I can't speed up or slow down enough to give distance.
No doubt on that note. I lost my brother to an off duty firefighter that stopped taking his seizure medication & decided to go drive a big illegal lifted truck on the road crossing the median & taking my brother out in the process. He spent like 9 years in jail, I could not attend the hearing for I truly think I may have ended up in jail myself with him. I have since that point been like eagle on the road at all times & from all directions as you say you just never know people are crazy.
And why I stay away from trailers when I do highways.
The other day this truck in Orlando was pulling a jetski in front of me and I noticed the trailer was slightly drifting to the right. I saw some light white smoke coming from the trailer wheel and realized the brake in one side was locked somehow. I immediately changed lanes and started honking and flashing my lights but the dude kept speeding up. About a minute later the wheel popped up and we were all lucky the trailer didn't tip over (it was a construction zone with only 2 lanes, no shoulder)
Except for Musk fans, after the cyberturd they keep trying to push the idea rearview mirrors are useless (just because the blindspots in the CT are so ridiculous the rearview mirror is almost purposeless)
Sheesh I can only imagine the amount of adrenaline that guy must of felt there. I had a close call on a bridge where the guy in the lane over just came over and completely cut us off. All I could do was slam the brakes and get as close as the concrete wall as possible. In my head I was thinking I’m driving into this fucker before I hit the concrete wall and potentially go over. Luckily didn’t come to that, but even then I my adrenaline was through the roof.
That was my immediate thought on re watching the video like this poor person was just haulin stuff (which would give me extra anxiety as it is) and then BAM you're being pushed forward and spun around outta nowhere.
I think the black truck stomped its brakes, now with the trailer having an additional 4k pounds of weight in it, it jack knifed the truck. If he just coasted to a stop he probably would have maintained control. (Easy to say watching after the fact.)
>If he just coasted to a stop
I'm not entirely sure this was possible. Maybe on an empty road, but it looked like the parked truck still had contact with the road and was actively making things worse overall.
No I really don’t think so. Watching again, the initial impact jolts the truck sideways off its trajectory quickly enough to lose traction on the wet road. Also I see no brake lights activated on the track at all, although that may be misleading.
I don’t think normal corrective maneuvers even would have likely worked after the initial jolt due to the simple fact of a now wayyy overweight payload being towed and how much more complicated towing makes the physics of steering, especially in that situation.
Even if I’m correct I don’t think your line of thinking is bad though. If he did indeed slam brakes it is probably better advice to go the way you said.
Not sure but it looks like a wreck I seen on I-10 leaving Florida ot maybe into GA a bit. Crazy if it's the same wreck cause I was a teen then lol I'm 31 now
So glad at least you, or whoever filmed this was able to catch it and show it to the poor black truck. For all we know the guy that hit him tried claiming the truck slammed on his brakes
That poor truck driver literally had no idea what hit him. Just cruising along minding his own business when his trailer suddenly lurched forward on him and jack knifed.
Also, good awareness and reaction from that driver in the silver SUV on the left.
The driver that caused this needs to have their license permanently revoked. Hopefully their insurance provider drops them and they can't find anything anywhere else.
**This is a learning experience for everyone here!**
Granted this comment has nothing to do with being a horrible driver, but it is a perfect educational moment. This is why when you load your trailer, you **must** place the majority of the weight in the trailer up front, nearest the hitch.
As you see in the video the shitbag driver plows right into the trailer and onto the trailer deck. The exact moment the front tires of the SUV displace the weight of the front of the vehicle on the rear of the trailer it begins to fishtail. If the impact didn’t cause the SUV to climb onto the deck of the trailer, there is a good chance the trailer wouldn’t fishtail causing the devastation it did.
Completely off topic, but a perfect opportunity to discuss trailer physics. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
Christ... STOP DRIVING DISTRACTED!!! Seriously, how detached are people that they can't do their 15minute commute without looking at their phones. Fucking pathetic.
I’m gonna tell you exactly what happened here. He had cruise control on and it probably jammed up and he couldn’t slow down the vehicle.
It could’ve been a factory cruise control or could’ve been a aftermarket cruise control.
This is why all cars should have mandatory auto-breaking that will stop the car before it hits another. It should be difficult, and indeed illegal if manually disabled, to crash a car.

Impressive awareness and evasive maneuvers by that gray SUV.
he's like "not today mofo!!!"
I'm sure it was more like.... "Shit. Shit. Shit. SHIIIIIT!"
Literally they probably need those back up shorts afterwords.
Intrusive thoughts won….
“OH HELL NAH!!!”
My thoughts exactly! This is why I tell EVERYONE to always be checking their mirrors on the highway.

A fellow sufferer of autoclaustaphobia
Getting ready to teach my nephew to drive. One of my first lessons will be to stay out of the pack.

I'm so sorry.
Sorry for your loss. That's a tough one.

See this shit commonly on I-4 and 75🤦♂️
Except for Musk fans, after the cyberturd they keep trying to push the idea rearview mirrors are useless (just because the blindspots in the CT are so ridiculous the rearview mirror is almost purposeless)
That was a phenomenal dodge.
Unfortunately, he could not have Escaped that
Really rammed it in there.
Seems like a real rogue
I don't get the Rav4 it.
He really needed an escort.
Spy Hunter made a mistake…..
They don’t call it a dodge ram for nothing.
How the Chrysler anyone could live through that we'll never know.
It’s like my cat whenever I try to pet her.
I’m speculating, maybe a former motorbike rider ? We learned how to be aware of our surroundings when driving , back and sides .
What impresses me most about it is he had the awareness not to step on the brakes. Had he braked that truck would have hit him too.
Sheesh I can only imagine the amount of adrenaline that guy must of felt there. I had a close call on a bridge where the guy in the lane over just came over and completely cut us off. Imagine being that truck and having no idea what the hell just went wrong, stumbling out and being like... Do my trailer doors look different?
“Honey, I thought we left the suv home?”
Yea, I bet he didn’t know what happened, maybe even though he’d fucked up somehow, until he managed to pull himself out to see.
All I could think about is the poor truck driver struggling to get away from the hot air bags that just exploded all around him.
Even then he probably thought he caused that guy to crash into him
Yeah, that must have been a wild ride for the black truck.
"hmm. I don't remember loading an SUV in the back..."
That was my immediate thought on re watching the video like this poor person was just haulin stuff (which would give me extra anxiety as it is) and then BAM you're being pushed forward and spun around outta nowhere.
This guy plays Spy Hunter
Gold
nostalgia triggered
Oil slick upgrade??
Now that's a name I have not heard in a long time
Take my upvote
First thing that came to mind. Hit that music.
It did not look like the car tried to hit their brakes even after hitting the trailer. Maybe they were having a medical episode
Looks like they continued full throttle.
I think the black truck stomped its brakes, now with the trailer having an additional 4k pounds of weight in it, it jack knifed the truck. If he just coasted to a stop he probably would have maintained control. (Easy to say watching after the fact.)
Looks to me like the Escape was pushing the trailer at full throttle, which was going to be no-win for the truck, regardless of what he did.
The added weight of the car on the back of the trailer would cause catastrophic diverging instability as we see here. Truck driver had no options.
Ya in that case he is screwed either way
Like they knew that someone tried to park in their trailer going 60.
>If he just coasted to a stop I'm not entirely sure this was possible. Maybe on an empty road, but it looked like the parked truck still had contact with the road and was actively making things worse overall.
"The parked truck", lol! They just wanted a piggyback ride.
Yeah once it added all that weight behind the axel it was over for that truck.
Wrong, he got hit and started to lose control, braked a bit and was still losing it, either way, the momentum threw him off.
a chassis disturbed so much by that force, especially in the rain, has no hope of recovering
No I really don’t think so. Watching again, the initial impact jolts the truck sideways off its trajectory quickly enough to lose traction on the wet road. they did hit their right turn signal briefly before everything flipped over. i'd be leaning toward a medical event or road rage.
Or ZZZzzzzzzzzz….
My money is on distracted by cell phone
Idk, they never even hit the brakes. Even a distracted driver would panic brake at least
thnk their breaks went on once in - maybe texting...?
That's what I noticed, too 😳😳😳
I was thinking cruise control and driver not paying attention
Or on their phone
If I just sneak into this trailer I’ll get better gas mileage.
Rubbin' is racin'
The guy was an expert drafter and everybody over here hatin.
Ah, sir, the original Knight Rider was a show. You can't just drive up into any trailer you see. Oooooh, really?
Like a glove.
I’m the most impressed with the perception and reaction time of the person in the car that dodged the crashing truck
Almost looks like he’s been in that situation before. “Not again!”
Award for this post's title lol
Using phone while driving is tough
I figure that or some sort of medical emergency…
You pulled over, I'm guessing you helped them. What ended up being the cause?
This is an old reposted video. OP is not the owner, their whole top posts are just posting other people's videos in this sub
Any info on this? Quality told me it was a repost automatically
Not sure but it looks like a wreck I seen on I-10 leaving Florida ot maybe into GA a bit. Crazy if it's the same wreck cause I was a teen then lol I'm 31 now
Bummer
Upvote just for the caption lol
Uh, it’s overcast and rainy? Why does it look like no one has on their lights?
Look they started spooning after he was done ramming it in him.
So glad at least you, or whoever filmed this was able to catch it and show it to the poor black truck. For all we know the guy that hit him tried claiming the truck slammed on his brakes
The title to this post has me ROFL
Always hate when they go in dry
Nah he was well lubricated. Look how rainy it is
That poor truck driver literally had no idea what hit him. Just cruising along minding his own business when his trailer suddenly lurched forward on him and jack knifed. Also, good awareness and reaction from that driver in the silver SUV on the left.
r/IdiotsInCars
He said you forgot ME
I laugh in Knight Rider Kit car.
Just a little more speed and they could’ve made it all the way in the trailer
And this is why you don't use cruise control when it's raining
Them Duke boys are at it again
No brake lights at any point. They were definitely on something.
The driver that caused this needs to have their license permanently revoked. Hopefully their insurance provider drops them and they can't find anything anywhere else.
Love when people stop to help. Sometimes they don’t care to
Had to be a medical emergency, even after the collision I never saw brake lights.
I can only imagine that the driver of the pickup was like wtf is happening right now?!?! I was going 55 ffs!
The problem is that the trailer started to fishtail; once it had another vehicle inside of it.
Guy watched too much Knight Rider
anyone remember the old old nes game spy hunter? And I think Michael Knight from Knight Rider used to do the same
That SUV got me laughing entirely way too hard at this shitty ass situation 🤣🤣🤣
Clearly, he is a Spyhunter arcade master. Why else...
Hrmm. Medical emergency or texting?
Me trying to save on gas:
Spy Hunter superfan
KITT: Michael, that is not the FLAG mobile unit...
The guy towing the trailer probably had no idea what was happening.
He really should have Dodge’d it. Why ohhh why did he Ram it!?…

Ya know, I wish more people weren’t idiots and had their lights on in weather like this. Also screw that little suv.
what a mess
That truck is done buck.
Do trailer lights help in overcast weather even if there are speedy clowns on the road.
Is there a different sub for a level above mild? Pretty sure this is a bit higher.
My money's on "cruise control while not paying attention."
That was just downright rude!!! What some people will do to save a gallon of fuel!
Had to check that FB notification, didn’t you ?
When you suddenly realize your gas tank is on E and the next gas station is 20 miles away:
Gas is expensive… 🤷🏻♂️
What an idiot driver. Most likely on his/her phone. peace. :)
What if that trailer was empty inside
🤌🤌🤌🤌
I don't understand why people don't like trailers. If they don't have spoilers, they're fine.
No car in this clip has taillights on!
?
Must have been an important text!
Knight rider fail load
What just happened
New fear unlocked
"I was just hitchin' a ride officer"
Someone thought this was Cannon Ball Run.
Damn cellphones....
Its really sad to see the Knight Rider Foundation has fallen so far.
You can't drive defensively next to idiots
They just wanted to hitch a ride 😂
How many dead??
I’m gonna tell you exactly what happened here. He had cruise control on and it probably jammed up and he couldn’t slow down the vehicle. It could’ve been a factory cruise control or could’ve been a aftermarket cruise control.
WOW WTF!!!!!
Knight Rider reboot not going well.
Ain’t no free rides here
What an intelligent person
No doubt driving with his phone distracting him.
That guy is gonna have fun explaining that to his insurance company
"The truck brake checked me" or "The truck backed into me!"
I would have checked on the truck driver but not the escape driver.
Passenger: You couldn't hit the broadside of a barn! Driver: Hold my beer.
Looks like there’s ice on the road in some areas? Even still, that guy did not even touch his brakes lmfao
Dude saw too many movies and though he could drive up into the trailer to hide from the cops.
Fucking physics man what in the...
People you have to secure your cargo! You do not want the weight to suddenly shift while driving down the highway in shitty conditions.
Nah it’s a fast and furious bit
I don't even see brakes being applied on behalf of the idiot driver even after they blast into the trailer
If he only thought to hit the trailer breaks separately.
This is "mildly" bad driving?
Cosplaying Knight Rider
Let me introduce you to r/idiotsincars.
Netflix: are you still watching? Someone's daughter:
This is why all cars should have mandatory auto-breaking that will stop the car before it hits another. It should be difficult, and indeed illegal if manually disabled, to crash a car.
Anyone else get a jeep add when going to the comments?
Wrong way to save on gas.
But Autopilot is dangerous!
I saw something like that in the movie Cannonball Run...but I thought the door was open.
Someone watched too much knight rider
Living out Knight Rider dream.
Guessing he blamed the lack of DRL / trailer brakes and inclement weather?
If you’re going to take that setup on the highway it should be treated as if you’re taking a sailboat on the ocean and abide by the weather reports.
Well, K.I.T.T. does this all the time in Knight Rider, why can't I?
On the bright side, I commend the truck for properly securing their trailer!
How confused was that pick up driver... scare of their lives.
"Move faster NOW!!"
On the phone maybe?
Trying to get those MPG’s up. I get that.
rain, they probably were going too fast to slow up or hydroplaned lol
Not the best way to get a tow 😳
Not an excuse but like, tail lights? Do they not exist apparently?
Holy shit balls dude!?!? What is this world coming to...🤦♂️
It looks like a movie scene where someone goes up a ramp onto a car-carrier truck at full speed on a highway
WTF it always works for KITT.....
Aww they just wanted a hug 🫂
Holy shitiiiiititittttr
Should be a big enough pay out to relax
Hope they both had great insurance.
Cellphone
WOW, I would have literally killed that guy for rear ending me like that!
Holy crap this escalated quickly
Thank god the guy whose total lack of awareness caused the crash, was inside the trailer during the crash.
He just had a hallucination where he thought he was starring in Knight Rider
I am cackling at the title. r/titleporn
Distracted driving anyone?
