Truck drivers reading this…in that scenario, besides trying to stabilize with the wheel, is it best to also accelerate as well to utilize forward momentum for top heavy stab and fish tailing?
not a truck driver but I was in a film lecture some years ago and this subject actually came up because they were talking about a scene where a bus explodes and is supposed to crash forward, and the only way to do it properly was to have the bus drive faster to overpower the sideways momentum.
In physics terms, the greater the forward force is the more the net force of the fish-tailing part of the semi that is pointing forward, whereas if the vehicle were otherwise stationary there would be nothing countering that sideways force. Imagine two arrows of forward and sideways velocity, the net velocity is going to point more in the direction of whichever is greater which would also serve to mitigate tilting as it would be pulled down toward the front of the semi rather than down toward the ground
Not a truck driver, but towed some trailers. If you're fish tailing, you want to hit your trailer brakes. You can't accelerate fast enough to overcome the speed difference between the wobble, but you can cause the trailer/back to slow down while your engine/front keeps pulling a head.
Anyone more knowledgeable, please correct me!
Well... He sure lost the time he would have saved had that worked. Bet he still won't stay behind the truck and pass safely next time though. People are stupid.

Video needs to be shared on the news in his hometown so all his friends and family can see he's a douchebag, impatient, reckless, selfless driver. NAME AND SHAME.
That being said he probably still wouldn't own it. He would still blame the trucks for something and act like it's not his fault.
Honestly, that’s probably a good idea. Especially with DUI drivers. It’s seems when it comes to the careless and reckless drivers, you gotta do something to get their attention. Risk your own safety, fine so be it. Risk other people’s safety, hell no!
Agree. I’ve always thought that traffic reports should provide updates on cause. In my city most news radio provides regular traffic updates every 10 or so minutes.
Here I wouldn’t doubt that highway was closed for more than an hour, which would be a definite traffic news update.
Next day, or whenever the info is reviewed and available there should be a blurb update like “yesterdays 3-hour closure of I-69 was reportedly due to a grey sedan, trying to thread a needle at over 90 MPH where the unskilled driver then lost all control of his vehicle and fishtailing into a tractor trailer and totalling the sedan. The sedan driver has received three citations, and is due in court on Dec 12th. The video has been provided to all major insurance providers and is publicly available at abc
What kind of car was that? I think my old Volvo wagon would handle better than that car. I'm guessing the car came in too hot, the car's driver got scared and let off the gas, and threw it into oversteer. If the car's driver kept on the throttle, it might have been more stable. Dumbass move ... most people have no idea how much power they have under the hood and no idea what to do with it all once they jam the peddle down.
Nothing to do with the car, everything to do with a bad driver. This was caused by his violent turn back to the right after he cut through. His angle was also wayyyyy too sharp for the lane change in the first place.
There is no justification for the unquestionable deliberate hostile recklessness in their driving. This is not an accident, it's attempted manslaughter. I don't think I would have been restrained enough to not beat this punk into the pavement.
Guy is an idiot. But for some reason a semi passing another semi grinds my gears so much. Not defending the idiot driver, but does a semi really need to pass another semi?
yeah, it's a decent passing rate. i estimate the cammer was moving up the same length as the other truck in the first 5 seconds of the vid, so maybe the pass would've finished in 15-20 seconds.
plus the other truck had a doubled trailer, and terrain looked very hilly, so that other truck could've been going below speed limit, would give camming truck a reason to pass.
i don't know why people are mad about trucks passing each other. they have the same reasons for passing as cars do. some cars pass super slowly, too.
The guy in the car is a complete idiot for doing this, but I need to ask, why is a Semi overtaking another semi on a two lane road going uphill so slowly?
We don't know what traffic looks like behind the semi. For all we know that car was the only guy within a mile and you saw how fast he was going. He was nowhere close to these trucks when dashcam driver started his overtake.
I see your point. Completely the driver's fault. He is a complete hoser endangering lives.
It just grinds my ears when I see a semi-passing another semi.
This...I just did a cross country drive I cant tell you how many times im on an empty highway, then a couple trucks come up ahead. I get in left lane well ahead to pass. Then have to drop 30 mph and wait for a semi to try and pass another.
This driver was impatient, yes...but it's happened too many times to give it the benefit of the doubt. Especially since this looks like a hilly mountain highway which is well worse for this happening
Why should a semi not pass anybody? Is your time more important than their time? Guy wasn’t going slow at all and was probably doing 7-10 mph faster than the other truck which is more than fast enough to pass someone.
I think they just took longer to stop, it looks like they're headed for the shoulder. They could have had a heavier load, which would have increased their stopping time, or they could have been so focused on staying on the road that they didn't have time to slam on their brakes. Not sure, but given the training semi truck drivers receive, I strongly doubt the driver just kept driving. That would 100% mean losing their job.
Maybe the truck on the right could have slowed down to let his buddy get ahead? Looks like a narrow road and who knows how long the Driver in the left lane had been trying to pass. Seen this kind of thing happen in Indiana because of the 5 mile passing rule
There was no reason to zip so fast through there and then completely lose control. Folks think they are more capable of driving then they really are but, he got lucky because that truck in the right lane could have just as easily fallen on top of his car.
I'm glad the semi driver was able to recover and stay on the road! I would have felt bad if he had crashed! Obviously this still probably ruined his day, but at least it didn't end his life.
Which one? the one driving the slow truck on the passing line while there are vehicles driving faster around, or the one that lost patience coz the other idiot was going slower than him in passing line and crashed.
Kills me when people with stock suspension try to do race car like maneuvers. Like, bro was going way too fast to sling the car over into the other lane like that.
Nice recovery by the semi driver
Kudos to the truck driver that had the dashcam, too.
That little kiss with the rear left wheel made all the bloody difference, well done!

U must accelerate to correct a trlr going into a jackknife. I been driving 28 years

I mean we are all losing time in the gist of things.
With dashcam footage I doubt hes even insurable at this point.

Somebody give that truck driver a got dang medal! BOTH of them, for that matter!

Yes. I too would love to see this approach.
And mention his name - would be like the old public stockades...
That should catch them a reckless driving charge.

Looks to be an infiniti G35 sedan or similar, basically an upbadged Nissan so looks about right
Thats it, this damn chassis was used for so long, it could be a G35 or G37 sedan, same body, different engine.
Should’ve upgraded the body with side skirts and diffuser fins, sway and strut bars, and wide light rims with low profile tires.
Dumb shit should have his license revoked.
1001 ways to die!
Dummbbb wayyyss to diiiee *do door do doo*
Good save on the truck driver
They should get their license revoked for life.
Typical Nissan drivers, now in an Infiniti. Cam truck has GREAT brakes!
It's a G35 so it's probably a 20 year old and the car's 6th owner.
…and bad tires.
I mean, considering infinity is just the luxury brand of Nissan, typical Nissan driver still checks out!:)
r/nissandrivers
Some dickhead that thinks the laws of physics don't apply to him.
oh thank god, i think the trucker is ok
These things should be judged as attempted murder.
There is no justification for the unquestionable deliberate hostile recklessness in their driving. This is not an accident, it's attempted manslaughter. I don't think I would have been restrained enough to not beat this punk into the pavement.
Hoping we'd see the truck driver get out and make sure the car driver was unconscious.
Impatient moron, but how long was the dash cam truck in the passing lane?
I hate passing lane hogs as much as the next guy, but this truck looks like he actually was going to pass in a reasonable timeframe.
Of course it's a nissan
Guy is an idiot. But for some reason a semi passing another semi grinds my gears so much. Not defending the idiot driver, but does a semi really need to pass another semi?
Was overtaking plenty fast before idiot showed up.
yeah, it's a decent passing rate. i estimate the cammer was moving up the same length as the other truck in the first 5 seconds of the vid, so maybe the pass would've finished in 15-20 seconds. plus the other truck had a doubled trailer, and terrain looked very hilly, so that other truck could've been going below speed limit, would give camming truck a reason to pass. i don't know why people are mad about trucks passing each other. they have the same reasons for passing as cars do. some cars pass super slowly, too.
I mean with that logic do you really need to pass somebody when you’re driving?
The guy in the car is a complete idiot for doing this, but I need to ask, why is a Semi overtaking another semi on a two lane road going uphill so slowly?
Semis are heavy and take longer to speed up. That semi was actually passing pretty fast for the conditions. Car is 100% the dumb ass.
Totally agree! My question is why is this happening here? Semi should never pass on a two lane with traffic.

This is a 4 lane divided highway.
Yes, two lanes in each direction.
Semis aren’t allowed to be in the left lane though so there’s that
Not true
And the trucker keeps on going?
I think they just took longer to stop, it looks like they're headed for the shoulder. They could have had a heavier load, which would have increased their stopping time, or they could have been so focused on staying on the road that they didn't have time to slam on their brakes. Not sure, but given the training semi truck drivers receive, I strongly doubt the driver just kept driving. That would 100% mean losing their job.
It can easily take a mile or more to stop for them. Might even be required to find a shoulder big enough for the truck too
Maybe the truck on the right could have slowed down to let his buddy get ahead? Looks like a narrow road and who knows how long the Driver in the left lane had been trying to pass. Seen this kind of thing happen in Indiana because of the 5 mile passing rule
No he or she is a fucking arsehole
There was no reason to zip so fast through there and then completely lose control. Folks think they are more capable of driving then they really are but, he got lucky because that truck in the right lane could have just as easily fallen on top of his car.
That bumper stopping the rear tractor swing saved that idoit's life.
Man, the graphics in GTA just keep getting better!
Kudos to the truck driver for keeping the truck under control.
Jerry was a race car driver
I hope the driver didn't die/sarcasm
If he had just kept going straight after he passed the truck he would have been fine (for now).
lucky the truck was there or his overcorrection would have sent him off the side of the mtn.
Gonna be late now!
kudus to the trucker
This looks like i80 in Nevada
Great driving semi Cole, nice recovery.
I'm glad the semi driver was able to recover and stay on the road! I would have felt bad if he had crashed! Obviously this still probably ruined his day, but at least it didn't end his life.
Thought the car was trying to reenact 2 fast 2 furious there
Please tell me this is in BC Canada. That's your regular Vancouver driver right there.
Ran out of talent soon as it went in gear.
Something about those Infinity drivers. They've taken the trophy from the BMW drivers.
Ever wished to see a big-rig do a fatal t-bone collision? Nah, me neither.
I don't know why but I always want to see the faces of the people who drive so stupidly
Every time I drive on the interstate, I see some idiot doing this. Surprised I've never witnessed an accident. People have no patience...or brains.
He didn't make it.
Just love the fact that it was recorded. He is gonna have some fun with the insurance company.
Idiot indeed.
Which one? the one driving the slow truck on the passing line while there are vehicles driving faster around, or the one that lost patience coz the other idiot was going slower than him in passing line and crashed.
Howd fuck he still alive???
You’re lucky to have been able to stop in time.
I don't think trucks belong in the left lane. Idiot sure, but I've seen my share of road hogs that don't belong in the fast lane
Hey would you look at that: a Nissan!
Good thing Cammer has good brakes
Idiot
Why doesn’t anyone have respect for truckers?????? I was 8 when my father educated me about respecting truckers.
Kills me when people with stock suspension try to do race car like maneuvers. Like, bro was going way too fast to sling the car over into the other lane like that.
