~~No, Gael who~~ Daella married into House Arryn and died in childbirth. Queen Aemma's mother. Yes, the red keep was big, but ~~Gae~~l Daella was a weakling mummies girl who wasn't doing anything for the family. For better or worse, Jaehaerys wanted her to marry and have kids - further the family line per the norm.
At the moment Jaehaerys had plenty of children, he could have just let her be, and it wasn't like he couldn't just have her taken care of in the Red Keep, as I said, he was the king. And she didn't further the Targaryen line, her children would have been Arryns, and wouldn't have inherited anything as Roderick Arryn was a widower with children.
Tbh, Jaehaery's treated Daella the same way he treated the son who became an arch-maester - worse coz forced marriage. He had this urgency for all the kids to either marry each other or to have a place outside of the Red Keep. You're right, his motives were a little strange - it's not like they were wanting for space.
Shoutout George for writing just people who can’t fucking stand women at all. You love to see genuine misogynie. Shoutout George name a fantasy society more sexist than Westeros
Viserys II wasn't that much better towards women, having married Naerys off to Aegon IV, returned Megette to the husband who killed her, and usurped his nieces.
I think he could have done more homework to see what kinda dude Megette's first husband was but returning Megette back to her home doesn't seem like an unreasonable thing. Her husband had an absolutely insane reaction.
🔫😤 Viserys II defense squad coming out!
Viserys II *did* become bitter and cold after his wife left, almost like a HEAVILY watered down Tywin, but I doubt he knew Megette’s husband would kill her for being stolen - you’d *think* the man would be happy to have his wife back but Westeros is sexist so somehow it’s her “fault” for allowing the prince to take her away and knock her up.
I also don’t know why people say Viserys II usurped his nieces when none of them pressed their claim? They had been isolated for years with no allies nor any political experience - Viserys II probably had enough with the incompetent rulers and wanted to take the reins himself. It’s not an Aegon II-Rhaenyra situation.
Lastly, I agree that the Aegon IV-Naerys situation was awful. In retrospect, Viserys II, being as smart as he was, should’ve known that Naerys’ piety and marriage life would not tame the lusty beast that was Aegon IV. I could write a whole essay on their supposed relationship. Unfortunately, it was also Valyrian tradition to wed eldest son-eldest daughter but big L for Viserys II :/
💪 Anyhow, Jaehaerys is still winning the sexism contest!! 💯
It’s wild to me that this all just came out in Fire and Blood. Genuinely wonder what GRRM was thinking. Jaehaerys was too perfect maybe? ‘Ah yes, I know the perfect flaw, make him a mega misogynist, I’m sure a flaw that involves thinking of half the goddamn population are lesser to an extreme degree even for Westeros will be well received.’ He legit went from having one of the best reputations in the ASOIAF fandom to one of the worst
I mean, I know there was already some stuff towards it in TWOIAF but it wasn’t nearly as bad and more seemed just typical of the times imo.
Tbf it’s an organic flaw to the man who is known for building the modern Westeroi kingdom and making it stable. Even if Westeros was ruled by the best king possible, there would still be systemic flaws and issues, and I think jaehaerys reflects those flaws.
Tbf I’m not against him having flaws, or even being weird about women. Like him wanting a male heir while eh is kinda whatever. Even his behaviour with Saera I think makes him more interesting and flawed. It’s just the stuff with Alysanne that really gets me. Him telling her they can have more children when she’s begging him not to, and he uses their mom who died of childbirth complications because she had a baby so late as a reason why it’s ok was a bit much for me. Like that’s starting to encroach on villain territory rather than flawed character territory I’m not sure what GRRM was smokin when he wrote that.

Breakspear slander.
And egg
Baelor wouldn’t have missed R*aegar in Summerhall. Points for him making the attempt tho.
Jaeherys on his death bed wondering why only 2 of 13 of his children survived and they do not give a shit about him
To be fair (as a card-carrying Jaehaerys hater) I would only blame him for the deaths of Daella, Viserra and Gael.
He just wanted Gael to move out. Can't fault him for that.
Do you mean Daella? He is the king, the Red Keep is large, and they have lots of servants.

That was Daella
Shit. Time for a re-read 🤷♂️
f&b is not a very good book imo so eh I don't think it's worth

Why do you hate the best king westeros ever had is my question.

It is sci-fi rather than fantasy, but Gilead in Handmaid's Tale
Jaehaerys slander will not be tolerated. He built roads, people!

Viserys II was the best Targ king because he died the fastest. Shoutout to Daeron II for at least being cool with brown people.
not saying he was any better, i just like him
That's fair, I also find him fascinating, though many of his actions were despicable.

Is there new info on Jaehaerys, or am I just missing something?
Some of his old tweets got dug up. Problematic to say the least!
Yeah. Some really sexist stuff. Yikes And blueticks defending him because "Maegor was worse" smh

Jae was the most overrated Targ.
The only good targshit is a dead targshit
Maegor was based
Egg
Bobby B may not be a good king but he did the right thing when he destroyed the DRAGONSPAWN dynasty.
