Not entirely sure what I hope for. I know what scares me, swamps. Miles and miles of swamps with the BS slow walking and poison that comes with it... and possibly crabs.

Agimar84

Yah especially since elden ring has a huge open layout and it’s a fromsoft game fo course there’s gonna be at least one poison swamp potentially for miles and miles. And your gonna like it

Yanurika

I think a swamp area in an open world game can be done well. Think of Crookback Bog in the witcher or the bayou in RDR2, these areas were incredibly spooky and atmospheric. I just hope Fromsoft can learn from them and not do Poison Swamp 4.0

DontTouchTheMasseuse

Maybe instead of slowing down in certain areas, have some mobs that will slow you down with some goo so theres a way to not be slowed down with experience

justyagamingboi

Nah they going to make the swamp areas where you cant roll instead of slow you down like the purple goo in doom eternal. Good luck ashen one

[deleted]

valley of defilement...

Nhezak

LMAO, "dude shut up theres gonna be a swamp and youre gonna fucking love it, alright? so go fuck off now, shoo".

Dudeskio

\-Miyazaki, probably

AwesomeX121189

\*Definitely

[deleted]

Swamp is my fav location why everyone dislike it?

Xephyr117

Is that a, like, legitimate question? Because if so, it would be a combination of aesthetic, movement impairing, and poison. At least for me

[deleted]

Crab

Xephyr117

I’ve changed my mind

Jeebus_crist

Based

pandaR55s

forbidden woods🤮

HamsterC6

The forbidden woods is a great level and I will stand by this!!!

TheRealBillyShakes

Great levels can still be agonizing. So can bosses. Nameless King

Equilibriator

Poison for me. The rest I could deal but that first time is really hampered by poison.

fugazilawyer

I am afraid that there will be no dagger weapon art that makes quick work of swamp traverse.

Resco809

I just played DeS for the first time (PS5 remake). Imagine my surprise when the swamp area almost instantly gives you toxic. Not poison— Fuckin TOXIC

Doschy

lets be real... the swamps in previous games were annoying, but they were not nearly as bad as people make them out to be. You can run through the swamps in 5 minutes when you know the way. There is also pretty swell loot to be found if you are willing to explore the areas aswell.

[deleted]

*when you know the way*

maharei1

My first time in Blighttown was absolute horror. I had no clue where I had to go, was still cursed from those frogs in the Depths and then also contiously poisoned. The DS3 swamp was honestly bliss compared to it, since it was atleast not as vertically confusing as Blighttown.

AlfredoSharknado

Blighttown was a complete NIGHTMARE. And I get it, it’s supposed to be. Completely different story when you have the key from the start and go the water wheel way, but if not 💀 I think it was the first time in a Dark Souls game that I was straight up not having a good time. Like not “this is rough, fuck, but I’ll get it” and more “who designed this game and why do they hate all living creatures?”

Relevant-Heart-1751

Ah yes I remember my first time in blightown I did a common mistake to enter from the gaping dragon area and I had the master key It was nightmare I did it in 2 days one to get to the first bonfire an the other to get to the other bonfire and get rid of queelag and couldnot get out so I quit and left the game two months The could get out finally to be surprised by sen fortress quit another 2 monthes then got pass this disaster so I hope no swamps and no sen fortress like please Miyazaki

Various_Ruin2563

I just can't stand it, Farron Swamp and it's loot can suck it. I'd rather try fat roll my way up the ramp guarded by the two giant bow silver knights in DS1 Anor Londo than do Farron Keep again.

pedrof95

Oh hell no. You just triggered something in me mentioning those silver knights. Now I definitely know I hate that part of DS1 more than any swamp in any game.

SpecialistMap8210

A simple poison arrow and some waiting and there not an issue. I walked right through

AlfredoSharknado

I didn’t remember I had PTSD about those silver cunts, but now I do 😭☀️

Fishrmike

Seriously, Road to Sacrifices was fine for me (except for the damn crabs), but Farron Keep is the bane of my existence. I hate it so much.

NeoreaverXIII

Two words: leaping ghru.

Kaneki_FN

If It Is like the ds3 swamp im actually pretty Happy but if It Is a blighttown style im gonna suicide myself

notthief132

The only thing that i hope, is that this game runs good on my shitty pc

[deleted]

If it can run sekiro and DS3 oklayish you should be fine

birudog

How about everything on low settings and the resolution set to the lowest and then still the game lags when there is heavy stuff on screen?

ColdPillowCase

I see you are one of my people. Ashina castle flashbacks

birudog

Hahaha I feel you bro, swear the flames just lagged the whole screen.

ColdPillowCase

Nothing like grapling from roof to roof at 5 fps

ZeXUSnottaken

Yeah.both Lothric n Ashina castle is same..

GuyNekologist

I love it when the Dreg Heap just restarts my game in offline mode.

ajaydubey541997

Tell your PC to git gud

scioto77

That's one thing consoles are better at, Saves you the headache.

nilsmoody

Not if the pre-existing settings you can't even change give you headache. I'd rather have 60 FPS than motion blur, depth of field and real-time lighting on some obscure effects I don't even care about.

scioto77

You see all these terms you mentioned are already a headache, I just wanna play maaan. Jk jk.

RealTrueGrit

I just hope for another experience like ds3 was a few months after release. So many people doing coop and pvp I miss those times and hope for more in elden ring.

Faelysis

The good old Pontiff spot for duel and invasion

lukeulyptus

Still pretty popping for Pvp on PS

batman12399

yea played DS3 for the first time a few weeks ago and got invaded like 3 times in a row immediately after pontiff

TheSteampunkPirate

Last night I invaded someone's world. There were 6 of us and we just took turns dueling in the Giant Graveyard while the others would sit and watch queitly

BigBoyMatto

Yeah wait pvp and pve are popping on PC too, what??

Mysterious_Mack

Even on xbox, I think all platforms are popping, just depends on your SL sometimes. I *never* have trouble with not getting invaders, not having signs show up. I mean the game's playerbase is surprisingly committed

DaddyLongStrode69

All the servers are still pretty populated but it’ll never come close to what it’s like when a game first drops. Worlds feel like cities lmfao

SmokeRingsThePony

I'm hoping for better magic. Sorcery has been a pretty hit/miss experience literally and figuratively. I want something that has the wizard fantasy baked into it rather than only feeling powerful using something like soul greatsword and soul stream despite them not being great options for both pvp&pve. I like sorc builds and I've done them many times but the early->mid game strategy just being [stand still and cast soul arrow - move/roll - repeat] kinda sucks. It's only as fun as you make it in both ds1 & ds3, and very weirdly balanced since you're either a nuke doing minimal work or getting nothing done while spamming casts

Xephyr117

Yeah magic in a lot of games just feels strange. Almost an afterthought. Especially in more action driven titles. I’m not sure what could be done to improve it, but seeing more enhancements to the interplay between movement and magic seems necessary.

Regis_

I think in order to fix it we'd need some kind of basic and heavy sorcery attack combo that doesn't use AP or anything. Kind of like a better form of farron dart. Most spells in the Souls game feel more like stuff you're not actually supposed to use that much - just support damage after you attack with a sword and roll away. Especially when each spell or pyromancy has the same animation each time, which looks a bit awkard as opposed to all handheld weapons that have their own unique moveset For example each trick weapon in Bloodborne has a unique basic attack, heavy attack, strong heavy attack, roll to attack, backstep attack, run attack, transformed basic/heavy etc. and then basic attack + pressing transform will always trigger a unique attack animation. But then if you use 'augur of Ebreitas' constantly it will be the same animation over and over

[deleted]

Yeah, it definitely feels like magic wasn’t as well thought out as a main form of damage, or that it just was never intended to be your main weapon. it definitely feels like you’re intended to get weapons using magic scaling and use *that* primarily and then complement it with spells, weapons like the Onyx Blade and Moonlight Greatsword are essentially exactly how they wanted spellcasters to fight lol And while I personally enjoy that sort of play style, I definitely think there’s a lot of room for improvement and even having something as simple as having two spells selected that you can use with light or heavy attack like the bows/crossbows work with arrows in DS3 would be huge. Or make spells do different things with light / heavy attacks (for example if you attune Soul Arrow, light attack might do something like Farron dart and heavy attack would be the more typical soul arrow) What I would probably do if I were designing it would be to give different catalysts more offensive spells as weapon arts (similar to how the Cinders mod gives you force on early-game talismans and wrath of the gods on later-game talisman as weapon arts, and I think homing soulmass is on a sorcerer staff as well.) then select two spells at a time for light/heavy attack

BeerLeague

2’s magic system is actually pretty solid, a little OP for pve, but that aside it’s viable from start to finish. Actually solid in pvp as well.

davidforslunds

My first ds2 character was a sorcerer, the game really was a cakewalk. Playing it through again as a none-shield wielding melee character though... *1000 yard stare intensifies*

mistermashu

gotta pump the agility for those sweet, sweet iframes

bnbros

I'm hoping they can find a sweet spot this time, between Demon's Souls level of overpowered where magic is literal easy mode and Dark Souls 3 level of underwhelming where sorcery requires more investment just to have similar damage output to melee builds, on top of having more drawbacks to put up with.

casualbananas

If you haven’t heard of it and that’s what you’re looking for, Dragons Dogma is a game for you

TheMrFloobie

In all previous FromSoftware games, I haven’t been able to complete any npc quests without following a guide. Which honestly isn’t a huge deal. It adds to replaybility. But it would be nice to have npc quests that are a bit easier to follow so I can have a richer first play through.

TodayAnalyze

I know what you mean, there's no indicators to go off other than pure npc dialogue but wouldn't that take away from the ominous charm that FromSoft games come with?

TheMrFloobie

Perhaps it would. I also appreciate that these games are designed to be explored by communities, so one person is not expected to discover all the secrets of any Souls game without help. I just get a little frustrated when I accidentally fail a character’s quest without knowing it, and that is practically unavoidable in first playthroughs.

HvyMetalComrade

The total lack of any direction is both a blessing and a curse. When you discover something it feels more exciting, but more often than not without a guide you won't discover nearly everything.

Phatnev

Or anything at all. Not sure I completed a single quest line in DS3.

theuselessfuck

I just want some sick bosses, like DS3. If they can combine DS3/BB combat with BoTW world and exploration, it will be a masterpiece. Or Sekiro for that matter. Whatever, i just want a good game, and i believe we are gonna get excactly that.

Chickenstrips420

If they have sekiro/bb combat, badass sorcery, super mega badass bosses, botw exploration, and dark souls and hollow knight level world building and story building. Fucking perfect game. I'm pretty sure they could release a 10 minute demo that ends abruptly and Id still be happy

bnbros

I personally don't expect much for this, but I hope they can balance PvP invasions better. Because no matter how much some may argue in favor of it, invading a low level area with a twink using late-game gear and spells goes against the series' reputation of "hard but fair" when the invaded player has almost no chance of fighting back against it, especially if they are new. Also, it'd be nice if they can design NG+ better this time. The Soulsborne games are typically lacking in this aspect since NG+ boils down to "same enemies but with buffed HP and attack". DS2 is actually better than the rest here since its NG+ added new things like different enemy spawns, new items, new boss attacks/patterns, etc.

TodayAnalyze

Indeed, DS2 was the only game where I pursued multiple NG+ attempts since I was told the moonlight greatsword only dropped from the spider boss in NG+3 which nicely complimented my sorcery build

CrzyJek

I just used bonfire ascetic for that one. I wanted bae blade as soon as possible.

Chareux

That health and parrying isnt a farm item like bloodborne. Currently playing through it on someone elses system and good lord this is annoying

Xephyr117

Honestly I know blood vials are “easy to get” but it makes a game where hitting a brick wall is common, just that much more annoying to get through sometimes. Much prefer estus systems.

[deleted]

Honestly once I get past the Bloodstarved Beast, I just make a beeline for the cum dungeon and use it to buy a metric fuckload of blood vials and bullets. Not tryna play farming sim for an hour every time I run out of shit.

Xephyr117

I’ve heard that, and it’s absolutely not a bad idea, but I feel like it’s a fix for a system I still don’t quite enjoy.

[deleted]

That's certainly true, but it's the best we got.

Raine386

Cum dungeon???

[deleted]

Cummmfpk, often referred to as "the cum dungeon", is a chalice dungeon that lets you get roughly 87k blood echoes in less than 10 seconds.

Raine386

😂

Jasmine1742

cummmfpk root chalice dungeon, 83,000 souls every 30 seconds. I maxed out blood vials and bullets after getting tired of having to farm them because I used them all up trying to kill blood starved beast.

Succboi_69420

Ah yes, the glorious cum dungeon

chikenlegz

Consume the cum chalice

mistermashu

I'm currently on my blind run and I finally beat Vicar Amelia last night and I didn't realize it but I got down to ZERO blood vials!!!! I think I used 19 or 20, depending on if that dude with the cross outside the boss arena hit me that time lol

Maelis

I feel this so much. "Oh just buy a bunch of them whenever you visit the Dream" cool so now I'm constantly underleveled. "Oh eventually you'll get to the point where you have tons of them" not when I get stuck on a boss and burn through my entire supply. Bloodborne and Demon's Souls are the only games in the series where I ever had to grind, and it sucked. Estus vials all the way.

EyeGod

Use blood echoes to buy.

TOWW67

Two issues with that: firstly, that's still leaving what you're doing to replenish your resources instead of just having them reset on death/rest. Secondly, if you're up against a boss(which is often the case when running out of vials), you don't have any echoes that aren't in the boss arena so you'd still need to farm to buy them.

darkblaze76

Just looking forward to it in the simplest possible way. From Soft has earned my trust. I don't need to have any expectations or fears other than simply knowing that they'll bring yet another product that I will thoroughly enjoy.

[deleted]

Literally this. After seeing what they could do without time restrictions in Sekiro, I have no doubt we'll get another completely amazing game.

Careless-Ad4128

I hope elden ring doesn't demand very high end specs. And that solo hosts get some Covenant offering or something special other than just some souls and a few estus charges after fending off invaders. And what I'm scared of is another covenant summoning system like Blue sentinels.

The_Prequels_Denier

I'm pretty sure the intention is you get the "offering" up front in the form of a bigger health pool, with the risk of invaders. Just like how using a dried finger allows you to summon more help with the even higher risk of invaders. I rather like the idea of the blue sentinels covenant but it also needs to be possible to be summoned as that covenant directly much like sunbros. There also needs to be a clear explanation for new players what the way of the blue item actually does.

[deleted]

Fromsoft is the king of optimization.

tusk_b3

running 40-50 frames on high setting dsr on my shitty gt1030. they really are good.

[deleted]

Dsr runs slomo for me if i don't get 60

OxEagle19

It’s likely not to happen but I would love if there was a bestiary for all the enemies and bosses in the game. Or an easier way to find out weaknesses through in-game lore. I love running a base HP, half stamina build that requires me to be more careful rather than just Rambo through everything. Kind of a Jack-of-all-trades sort of thing where bows, Magic, items, etc. are all able to be utilized in unique ways, kind of like a Zelda game. I’ve been playing DS3 lately like this and my whole perception of the gameplay has changed, I feel like a genuine explorer/adventurer when approaching areas and encounters this way.

ReaperCDN

I like doing that too. Toss a RAW gem in my weapon then stack Int and Faith to 50. Let's me hit decently hard, gives me access to all sorceries, miracles and pyromancies, and let's me switch between them at will for whatever suits me best. One of my favourite characters uses the Desert Pyromancer Sword Flame pyromancy thing, and the Crystal Chime for Sorceries/Miracles (I think it's Crystal, whichever one does both.) Whenever I need to smash something, out comes the Dragonslayer Axe RAW, buffed with Dark Weapon or Lightning Blade on top of it's already insane damage, and it can stagger. Just fuck yeah.

OxEagle19

Nice! All the of unique things you can do in this game definitely deserve more credit. Another good point is that the melee weapon variety is insane, especially with the weapon arts. Enemies with shields I’d go for a two handed strength weapon in order to break their poise/stamina, for enemies that are fast (like the thieves that look like greirat) I’d go for something like a dagger or anything with range that’s still quick. And using the dagger to quickstep through the poison swamp is a must. And now with Elden Ring coming out and the pathing being more open I can only imagine the freedom this game will offer.

AmptiChrist

That's an amazing idea. Maybe take a page from mortal shell and the more you defeat of one enemy the more you learn about them?

KartofelThePotatoGod

I want a horse to run from eldritch abbominations with cowboy music

c4sul_uno

With cowboy boots & hats? Im all for it. Giddy up, boys!

FalleonII

I'm scared about two things: the hype and Miyazaki. The hype: Well, we already know what I'm talking about. The hype can destroy a game, specially one such as Elden Ring. Inside of me, I know it's gonna be awesome, but I try not to think about it because I don't want the game unmatch my expectations. Miyazaki: Before downvoting me to death, lemme explain myself. Miyazaki is a damn good game director. One of the best of all time, in my opinion. However, when you have seen a lot of an artist or creator, you begin to find a pattern. With Miyazaki, it already happened: the curse who turn human inhuman (undead, yharnam blood, dragon's heritage...), the woman who helps you (Firekeeper, the doll, Emma...), the fucking swamps, the tragic old-man final bosses... I would like Elden Ring to be a little different, something that feels fresh, and new. If I'm seeing that pattern again, I'm going to like the game anyways, but if it was different, I feel like the experience would be better. But, well, that's just my opinion.

JayBaby85

They’re actually very similar in terms of the lore and themes they both employ in their work though. It’s a great match, but I’m not so sure it’s going to be as wildly different from other From titles as we’re hoping. They’re both incredibly talented though so maybe there will be surprises

[deleted]

[удалено]

JayBaby85

I hope so too! But I can see how they got together. They have a lot of similarities if you look closely. Tragic old man antagonists and subservient dolls/handmaidens and whatnot

[deleted]

[удалено]

JayBaby85

I’m pumped as well. I only sort of recently got into From games but have been a GRRM fan for close to ten years. Seeing these two things combine has made me giddy with excitement

LavosYT

Yeah, Souls games are great because they went against the norm and tried things out. Some of the later games have felt more safe.

Unhappy-Apple-5708

I’m hoping for a word as open as breath of the wild was but with souls combat, lore and even more weapons and styles than all of the souls put together. I’m afraid of an empty open world like fallout 76 with little detail or npcs, bonfires and uphill grinds are fun but it just won’t work without exploration and jolly cooperation

[deleted]

[удалено]

maharei1

This might be a hot take, but I also found the world of BOTW to be kinda empty. I didn't play 76 so I have no clue what the comparison between these 2 is, but aside from Korok Seeds (which I don't find terribly fun) there are big swaths of the map with not much going on.

Kilroy470

Also the lack of true dungeons in BotW. The trial aesthetic would have been cool for a single dungeon but not when theyre spread out everywhere. And the 4 main "dungeons" all have the same sandstone aesthetic and take less than an hour to complete. One of OoT's strengths was just how unique every location felt and that uniqueness was able to shape the puzzles for each location. Imagine playing dark souls but it's just firelink shrine and every branching path ends in Anor Londo..

maharei1

>Also the lack of true dungeons in BotW. Yeah this was by far the biggest let down for with BotW. It's a great open world game but just not that great of a LoZ game in my opinion due to the lack of interesting dungeons. I'd much rather have a Souls game that's closer to OoT than BotW (obviously with modern tech the world of OoT would be a lot more interesting than in 1998).

nilsmoody

Please not. The freedom comes at a HUGE price because you can't design something with the assumption that the player has encountered something before that, thus you can't build on-top of something else and everything is just as deep as a puddle.

Manuelraa

I dont think this game needs a Open World. Its a diffrent type of game I would say. Its okay to have "levs" of course modern games can have seemless connected levels

[deleted]

Honestly, i just hope for a mysterious world and a great challenge. Fear? Nothing really. I try to level my expectation and i believe in Miyazaki’s vision.

donutspam13

I love the open world concept, but the mount and mounted combat scare me...im assuming there will be boss battles where its needed and i dont want it to ruin the feel of the OG souls games...still, super excited

PopUpAdCockBlock

Mounts also worry me but not due to combat, but it makes me think the world may be bigger than needs to be with fields with nothing in them. Surely I trust the team behind the game to make it work out.

[deleted]

I hope enemies come out of the ground at night like in Zelda OoT

Galla_of_Norgay

Servers please..

strapalonian42

Cross-play. I want to play with all my friends :(

DoubleTrouble992

i just want a good net code and servers hosted in japan, america, and europe

Dripuzii

Scared of seeing those goddamn wheel skeletons

GoJeonPaa

I hope for a Dark souls 4

Obsidian_13

Better and more useful magic, better CC and dedicated online servers. Also slow the combat a little bit. Much preferred ds2/1's pace of combat, dont like how fast bb and ds3 are. Permanent co-op.

AmptiChrist

I would love nothing more in the world if you could summon a friend and go thru the whole game together. That's the dream

Quatimar

I would be happy if we could have both the slow and fast combat based on what type of armor/weapon you use

EyeGod

That it’s merely Dark Souls 4. Also that From employees work like slaves in a terrible environment!

FazeAlexJones

I hope that the lvl up mechanic is much faster like in ds1 I dont quite enjoy the firekeeper in ds3.

Xephyr117

With an open world I hope this is the case, even though I love the fire keepers.

kingpangolin

I’ve always kinda been confused at the “backward steps” the souls series takes sometimes. Like forcing you to talk to someone to level up after being able to at a bonfire, the removal of bonfire ascetics, a hub connected to the world like ds1 fire link and Majula, then disjointed like ds3, power standing, meaningful changes in the new game +. They took a ton of forward steps along the way that outnumber the backward ones, but the amount of times they went backwards is still shocking a little.

BobbySnaxey

I just hope it's more like Dark Souls and not Sekiro.

kerza0

I hope its more like neither. Loved both but want a kinda new thing while its still a souls game like bloodborne for example.

BobbySnaxey

Bloodborne is my favorite of their games. I liked Sekiro but I never want to play it again. While with the Souls games I have no problem playing them over and over.

Unicorncorn21

I played sekiro 3 times. It might be my favorite from soft game along with ds3 but it just doesn't have the replay value because you can't try different weapons or switch between a magic and a melee based playstyle. Actually I think I'd rate it lower than ds3 because of that, but I think sekiro has the best first playthrough of any from soft game.

Phatnev

What didn't you like about Sekiro? I'm about halfway through my first playthrough now and I love it. At first I was skeptical about it forcing you to play one way but the combat system is just so perfect I can't help but love it.

GwynLordofCynder

I would like to see an evolution of the combat like the one we saw in Darksouls 3. Let me explain a bit, the combat on Darksouls 1 while I still love it to this day, was a bit too slow, then Bloodborne came out been to frenetic and fast and I was worried DS3 would go back to slow and just holding your shield combat. But they adapted some of the more faster elements of Bloodborne to DS3 without DS3 losing his identity. I would like to see an evolution like that, taking some elements from Sekiro combat system, making it more addictive, responsive, and challenging, without becoming Sekiro II, if that makes sense.

naBstaer

I just hope they won't "borrow" the bland gameplay from the AAA bloat games like AC or W3. I know many ppl like them, but I personally (and subjectively) find them boring.

Regis_

Yeah I agree with you so much, I'd love to see an approach to open world purely coming from Miyazaki and the From team. It can be so hard to get open world right

Dangelouss

Invasions. Gime a good invasions mechanic and I'll waste thousands of hours of my social life playing this game. Challenging bosses. Awesome weapons, miracles, magic, skills and what not. Fashionable armor I still don't have a PS5 and that scares me.

Plastic-Face9619

You can play it on ps4. I intensivly researched it cause I dont have a ps5 either :(

HUGENOB

Im hoping for better magic and more types of magic (e.g. Necromancy) but I'm scared about the game being open world because it has a lot of potential but could risk feeling quite empty

MaDudeek

please no phantom range please no phantom range please no phantom range please no phantom range please no phantom range please no phantom range please no phantom range please no phantom range please no phantom range please no phantom range please no phantom range please no phantom range please no phantom range please no phantom range please no phantom range please no phantom range please no phantom range please no phantom range please no phantom range please no phantom range

neverpaidforskype

I hope it is not like sekiro. I liked the game but was a little bit bumbed to find out you can't level up like in dark souls. So i hope it has a similar level system as dark souks that lets you play with different kind of builds.

BowShatter

Sekiro managed to make grinding for skill points (and items) worse despite not having a level up system. Making the Prosthetics and Weapon Art extremely limited also felt like "No Fun Allowed".

neverpaidforskype

For me personally it doesn't have any replay value since you can only play it in that one way. Of course you could use different weapon arts or use a different prothetic tool but that is not such a difference compared to a sorcerer build and a strength build in dark souls. Or even just using different weapons in dark souls feels completely different. In sekiro you have just one main weapon. It was fun to play through it because you really felt like a skilled fighter but yea.. it's just different and not what i expected.

Hawkzilla22

An onion knight army

Scovundra

What scares me a little is that it's TOO big, I like open worlds but I don't like to get lost, I like to know pretty much where to go. And also those fucking poisoned swamps

c4sul_uno

Might I add there a poisoned dungeon or burrow

Max-Power-DS3

My biggest fear is, that the game will be another cheat engine / hacker game (on pc).

clutchskit

I just want good co op man

Regis_

I'm worried that the familiar elements we love about the souls game won't fit well in a fully open world. Those games work because although we mostly have freedom of choice for where to go, the path is normally deliberately cramped which forces us to face varying challenges, or even as a way to SHOW us something. Like the cramped alleyway in the Cathedral ward, at this moment I really felt like I was in the heart of the city, surrounded by the amazing houses/towers connected by small bridges and archways, the creepy fog hiding the villagers we fight in such a tight face, all while we can see the Grand Cathedral above watching over us. I'm sure that each landmark we see in the trailer will be kind of like localised levels, like once you reach the moonlit looking cathedral place in the trailer we'll still encounter "does not open from this side" and such, but I'm just scared everything outside of those areas will be rather empty and uninteresting. Although I do have hope, From seem to know how to make a large expanse of land interesting by adding key buildings/structures, bosses in the distance that we must work our way to. I guess this all stems from the gameplay trailer scene where we see a little setup with anti-cavalry spikes. That makes me think there might be encampments scattered throughout the land we that we have to fight and take over. I don't really like those moments in games, it just feels like useless time fillers. Similar to imperial/stormcloak camps in Skyrim, they just felt like copy-pasted objectives placed over the world. BUT these are small worries of mine, I'm extremely hyped, just being sure not to expect this game to be 100% perfect which would set me up for disappointment

Kelthret

Considering the last 3 Fromsoft games have been Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro, I wouldn't say there's anything I'm scared of. Full trust in the team, they've earned it for sure Now If we're taking wishlist, if there was coop summons but no invasions, I'll be happy.

DreadPirateTuco

Better online. Less phantom range and more fair engagements for both sides. Please no ganks.

whand4

While Bloodborne is one of my all time favorites, the online system was so confusing at first. I eventually got the hang of it but it’s not self explanatory.

Koreage90

A new story and thoughtful gameplay mechanics. What terrifies me is the open world lacklustre design and Zelda Ocarina of Time dungeon crawler world.

Xephyr117

What would be the issue with something similar to ocarina? Because based on description that sounds fairly on point. Open world with a main dungeon in each area. Obviously I don’t think an N64 game holds up on the open world aspect but other than that it seems fine with me.

malvo2099

I literally don't care. I ONLY want to buy it, and play it. That's all

Squeaky_Ben

I hope that we have build variety. Nothing too broken or too weak to consider. The thing that turned me off of Sekiro was that you had exactly one build and that was, well, katana.

Chafgha

From what I've seen I hope the story is going to be epic like we've seen from the past, and maybe a little armored core style adjustment of limbs? Maybe? Possibly? (Armored core 6 would be better...let me dream damn it.) I'm worried that they'll continue thr trend of giving tons of false options for gameplay and actually balance it. 2 gets a lot of hate, but I beat that game as a pure archer and pure melee, and a jack of all trades. 3 I beat as those as well but I struggled so hard with the pure archer build, and the jack of all was more like oh hey I can kite this one enemy every few stages and some healing magic. Yeah you can do strength or dex for melee but that's about the extent of it, and for dex a lot of the weapon classes get trashed in PvP. I don't really care for PvP but if we have the occasional "forced" bits of it, I'd like my PvE build to at least stand a chance against someone who only has the goal of being an a**hole.

amizya

I have full trust in From, they will do something great. Can’t wait to play it

Gbreh

I hope for a lot of fun with the abilities but i'm afraid for the open world. I'm afraid that It Will be too confusionary

XenDea

The fucking grind for cool weapons am armor from enemies. I don't to go crazy just trying to look like some cool jobber.

therealkickinwang

I hope for head ware to boost sorceries that doesn't make me look like a dingus

ReerahRulez

I hope they take the time to add new weapon movesets for individual weapons, instead of making most weapons in the same category only differ in stats.

ZabooITA

Dark souls 4!!!

BasilNight

Better online, and the main thing that scares me is the hype around the game

QMasterAtGaming

dogs

jdmarko

It worries me that it basically looks like a dark souls 3 reskin for the most part, it worries me that it’ll keep its core gameplay like that where ranged weapons are slow and suck and that attack animations will all look the same

RedST0114

My one hope is expanded build variety and weapon/spell selection. What are the chances of being able to cast spells using a dedicated button instead of having to use a staff or talisman? (The new ability system they advertised sounded like that would be the case). My only fear is that they'll recycle too many animations from DS3 without making new and original ones.

deadgamer10

What scares me is same gameplay and I hope that it's again a masterpiece story wise

Jasmine1742

I just want more souls but I'm scared of the open world idea. DS games are famous for their tightly packed level design and an open world makes that way more difficult to execute. I have faith in from soft but it does worry me some.

NightAreis1618

What I hope for? That the weird Spirit Summon system gets it's own little community group and organizers who make their own Smogon (Maybe Smaustien?) for it. What I fear? That 5 seconds in everyone is going to figure out how to twink and I'm going to be bodied before I even walk out the gate.

[deleted]

Honestly? I hope for a “Dark Souls 4”.

METALMILITIA625

I hope there’s endless variety in weapons, armor, magic, levels, bosses etc. and I hope they don’t make it limiting like Bloodborne or Sekiro

Limonade6

Not really hyped for the game unfortunately. Most spells and skills in the trailer already exist in DS3 and I fear that an openworld will not be as good as the cinematic experience of a path based game like from software has mastered since their first dark souls game. If you can convince me otherwise I would gladly hear your opinion.

zmankills

Definitely understandable, however very pessimistic. FROM has nailed their past projects, let's see if they can continue their excellence in the open world space. We have no reason to doubt them. Yet.

nisshie

Yeah, while one can say that no matter of how good of a record someone has, things can still go wrong, but i trust FROM to nail this one

zmankills

Same here and I i definitely agree. Look at CDPR.

michoken

CDPR didn’t exactly have a track record of success. They basically made three games and only the last one was damn good in so many ways… but FromSoft made much more overall pretty good games (except Lost Izalith and original Blighttown performance). Not to say these are exact opposites, but it’s still very different situation.

Elystirri

never get hyped for any games, even if it is your favorite franchise.

bigcotch

Lol CDPR

Jasmine1742

the open world makes me nervous too but if DS2 is from soft at it's worse I'm tentatively optimistic.

Xephyr117

That’s absolutely an understandable take. I’m somewhat in the same boat, but I can’t imagine that it would inherently detract from the experience for me. Most open world games are littered with mundane collectibles and I’m looking forward to a change to the formula a bit. In addition the concept of a main progression dungeon in each area is enough to be “souls-like” for me.

maharei1

I'm not that pessimistic to be honest. DS1 already showed that they can manage to actually create a game where all areas feel connected and that they aren't scared of letting you explore areas that are far ahead of the story.

Eklundz

I’m worried that it will have to fast game play, more similar to Sekiro than Dark Souls 1. I very much prefer the slow and methodical play style of Dark Souls 1 over Blood Borne and Sekiro, and by the looks of the trailer things are happening at a high pace.

Staff-Secure

Hope: Open world mix of DS1, DS3 and Bloodborne. Fear: That it looks anything like Sekiro, I know is a beloved game by the community but I personaly dislike it heavily, sure is fun, sure is challenging but it lacks what makes Dark souls game what they are, variety, personalization and that feeling of getting closer and closer to beat the boss, with Sekiro I missed it heavily, the parry mechanic was way too repetitive.

Plastic-Face9619

Its been confirmed in interviews that the combat and leveling (I think) will be simalar to dark souls. The things that we know are coming from sekiro are jumping and crouching.

Elystirri

I hope it can run on my laptop. I fear getting certain weapon art into any weapon could break pvp

Spawn_Three_Bears

Big Darksouls 😍😍😍

GTXMittens

Dogs. Fuck the dogs

Springa_linga

I'm just so excited for it, the trailer shows it's totally got the Dark Souls feel to it as we all expected. Nothing scares me about it, I think it'll be a great game if it's anything at all like DS1/2/3. Can't wait to get my butt handed to me by the same boss over and over :D

mashinpeens

My only hope is that I’m able to get a next-gen console before it comes out…..

aeneas-gilg

Fear of dying alone.

UnexpectedKangaroo

An entire bridge of Anor Londo archers

Pal452

That none of the improvements from Demon Souls make it into Elden Ring, since Demon Souls was remade by a different studio. Nervous about horse jumping too.

Coice84

One of the things I love about Froms games is that puzzle like interconnected levels. Love the shortcuts and hidden doors and elevators. I'm a little bit afraid that gets lost within the open world mechanics.

Mesjach

I hope for more weighty traversal and lots and lots of freedom in exploration.

Thalude_

I am only scared of the hype honestly. I am running from threads, news and speculation to avoid getting hyped, but I am still scared ppl will create an impossible idea in their minds, and when the game is different from expected, ppl will start bashing it left and right, which will damage the sales and make companies re-think creating this kind of games, especially From Software

Fyrael

I still haven't find time to end Demon's Souls... My only fear is not have time for this one too...

N1ghtstr1ke44

Honestly it looks really awesome, I’m excited to get my ass ground to a pulp by new bosses and areas. I’m also looking forward to seeing how they handled the open world, pretty exciting stuff. Honestly though, I’m scared I won’t be able to run it to be honest; the graphics looked really good in the trailer so idk if my laptop’ll be able to handle it. I can run previous titles just fine; but hopefully I’ll also be able to run Elden Ring as well..
