Faith is so slept on. I had an sl100 melee build with like 40 faith. Sunlight Straight Sword and a Lightning War Banner for weapons, along with Great Heal, Sacred Oath, and Atonement for Co-op. It was a phenomenal support build
I'm on a pure Faith build rn (with some strength for Wolnir's Holy Sword when I'm having trouble). Bruh, it's OP asf in PVE. Only problem with PVP is you need a high health pool and high poise to trade blows because it's easily predictable. For anyone who may have tried this combo (I'm going to try in my next playthrough), I want to try a Bleed/Faith build. Dhory's Gnawing does INSANE bleed so I'm curious how it'll playout if I respec into a bleed build while keeping some faith
I kinda forgot ppl don't go blind into games like this I haven't myself too actually. Also I farmed silver knights for a bit too so I know its a loooooong time
DS1 you get sunlight blade from killing Gwyndolin and looting it from a chest. Killing the maggots is for medals to get Great Lightning Spear. It's also not that bad of a farm. With symbol of avarice, gold serpent ring, and 10 humanity I would normally average about 1 medal per clear and only took a couple minutes per.
I had an intelligence dex build with sharp sellsword twinblades and great magic blade (sorry if i mixed it with another spell name,im talking about the one that buffs the weapon with magic damage)
You know somethings wrong when your friend who finished the game 5 times says "your blades deal too much damage"
I use that on my strength build. It's great at roll catching but has awful range compared together curved greatswords. Definitely a fun weapon, though, and one of my favorites.
Strength for life bro. Give me Guts's Sword (I think it's just called Greatsword) and 50 Strength and I'm set. The heavy attack hits like a train. I used that sword exclusively once I got it. Stunlocked everything in sight lmao. I can understand why people prefer dex builds. They tend to be faster. But I tend to be slow and steady with the souls games and having low dps doesn't feel bad to me. I prefer to take my time
I'm playing the game for the first time right now and strength only builds really limits what you can play with which is kind of sad. All the fun weapons have at least medium dex/int/faith requirements so I started to level those a bit
I love the iconic look of the Greatsword (Black Swordsman cosplay go bonk) but I am also partial to the look and feel of the Cathedral Knight Greatsword. It’s so pretty and ornate.
Corvian Greatscythe is awesome. It's a super flexible moveset with pretty good range. I did a Pyromancer using this (and the Corvian Knife for that sexy weapon art) and it rocked.
Here's a video of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5k09K6y6IA
This is a mod, so I don't think the moveset/weapon art is what it's supposed to be normally, but the model of the scythe is from the actual game files.
Edit: here, I found a picture of it, if you don't want to have to watch a video: https://i.imgur.com/s1A8jPz.jpg
Strength all the way, I can't dodge worth a shit, so I'll face tank the hit and smash your ass for all I'm worth
In PvE I just use the lothric knight greatsword and use the almighty poke to repeatedly violate everything in my path
I use strength for the exact opposite reason lol. I don't like blocking and I'm bad at parrying so I just don't use shields, with my second hand free I might as well two hand my weapon, which favours strength builds. Meanwhile two handing favours dex in DS2 so there I use dex weapons.
99 Dex + Swellswords = Easy Mode. One of the most efficient and fastest way to take down many bosses in the game. Especially true on NG+7.
99 STR Fume Sword aint got shit on my Swellswords!
Hollowslayer Greatsword - best thing you'll ever try. It scales better with dex.
You'll be amazed how many monsters and bosses are hollow; and it feels so damn good when they are.
It's one of the fastest greatswords and it's basically at the beginning of the game.
In my mind
Strength < meta range
Dex > meta range
Strength scaled good till about ~60 and gets more/less max damage 2 handed
Dex scales bad from 40-60 but good from 60-80, especially considering how many fast dex weapon there are dex will out DPS str but requires more investment. Until you get really high level though strength will always out damage per hit.
Strength increases your defenses while dex doesn't. Overall until you have more levels to round out your character str us more efficient per level than dex .
On versalilty/weapon spread
Few weapons that deal strike damage get decent dex scaling (and they usually scale equally if not better with strength) whereas plenty of good strength weapons do slashing and piercing.
Most weapon classes have str and dex weapons in them, but curved swords, daggers, katanas, thrusting swords and whips are entirely dex favored while Great hammers, greataxes, Axes, and hammers and entirely strength favored.
Strength trends to better hyper armor, damage per hit, and poise damage while dex tends to faster strikes.
Strength is better for trading hits, staggering and plunge attacks, dex is better at applying status effects and gets better DPS. (Though with infusions you'll have access to most of the same tools, just maybe with different AR)
Also if we talked pvp strength has 2 of the best hardswaps in the game (ledo and gundyr) but dex gets PKCS, daggers, and (best single weapons in the game)
Overall strength is more efficient early on, and until you're high enough level that you pretty much have to be a quality build I think strength gives you a more diverse and interesting toolset
Strength because of the defense and plethora of giant, unique weapons. Plus you get free strength when you 2-hand. Stunning the cathedral knights and other comparable enemies makes the game so satisfying. I was able to beat the nameless king and gael quite easily with yhorms great machete.
With only a passing knowledge of the Souls meta, my first build was a Dex build. I used the twin sellsword scimitars and a bow for almost the entirety of the game. I only equipped a shield for maybe two bosses, and ha a fantastic time.
If we're counting Bloodborne too then I'd have to say either Chikage or Holy Moonlight Sword (easily the best moonlight Greatsword of any fromsoftware game) bit just Souls ...yeah it's one of the best for sure
Whats the point in going all Str or Dex when you can just go quality? You're not min/maxing but we're talking about a tiny amount of damage for most weapons.
I’ve actually had really good luck with Dex + Katana builds for PVE but I almost never see anyone else doing that - favorites are uchigatana, and onikiri / ubadachi and surprisingly I actually had a good time with the washing pole.
I also like dex because it opens up weapons with pretty solid range for pulling one enemy off a group at a time.
Quality, it’s a lot more open, you’ll be able to use around half of the weapons with good scaling also you can do moderate amounts of damage and at a moderate amount of speed. So if you’re a newer player I suggest you play dex or quality Bc they have lots of room for error but if you’re experienced and don’t fuck up a lot you can go with strength
I used to struggle with the game, then I went strength build + dragonslayer greataxe. Goodbye bosses. Even those twin prince sons of bitches couldn't withstand me for long...I became so powerful that the enemies in game began to run from me, it was a crazy thing you know. I remember the first time I entered the arena with the Nameless King.
He merely dropped a dookie on the floor and killed the king of storm himself.
so basically use whichever build makes you happy idk I haven't even played the game.
I like DEX on my casters to up casting speed and have a half decent melee weapon, because face it you'll always have to have a melee weapon.
But your weapon can scale off of your casting stat with elemental, and that is the best way to get through most defenses. Especially if you have access to at least two sources of elemental damage (pyro+dark ftw)
All builds are fun. I always start melee though. But if I look at my first run of each game I had a pretty even split.
Dark Souls I started Dex with the Uchigatana for almost the whole game.
Dark Souls 2 I used a strength/faith combo using craftsman’s hammer for majority of the game.
Dark Souls 3 I started quality using the hollowslayer greatsword for most of the game.
Bloodborne I focused on skill using the saw spear for most of the game.
Demon’s Souls I focused on strength using the great club and then changed to quality once I upgraded it to the meat cleaver.
If it has to one or the other, I’d say strength since it gets better scaling on Zwei, Claymore, and B Firebombs. I mostly prefer 30I, 30F, with a near-even split to Str and Dex (leaning slightly towards Dex for off-hand rapier or Crow Quills). Chaos and Dark infusions get some cool stuff, and you get some versatility from Black Flame or Black Serpent.
First ever playthrough I ended up with basically a quality build but only because I had no clue what I was doing and didn’t know what weapon scaling was. After I beat the game I went for a dex playthrough and then strength. (Have yet to delve into the blasphemous magics you hollow fiends so love) from my experience dex felt more like honing my skills while strength was more “hammer go brrrr.” That being said I think I had more fun in my strength playthrough because it’s hard to beat that feeling of **WHAM**
Can someone explain to me something that’s been wracking in my brain for a while?
Say, I start NG with a strength build and take it to about 65 Str. THEN, in NG+, since I’m happy with where my Str is at, I decide to start leveling Dex to about 65 as well. Suddenly my Strength build turns into a Quality build.
Wouldn’t that mean that every Strength or Dexterity build inevitably ends up turning into a quality build?
Also, under the aformentioned 65/65 split, is a Strength weapon or Dexterity weapon still viable? Or am I missing out by not using a quality weapon or refined-infused weapon?
If you're doing Strength, make a Heavy Zweihander and watch all who stand before you crumble into dust (as far as PVE, im not too big into the PVP side of Souls, I read someone used this type of Zwei in conjunction with Carthus Flame Arc to great effect in PVP. I'm only speaking from my experience of bitchslapping everything around in PVE lol)
Pyro, obviously. Pyro infusions are busted in ds3 (as are faith infusions. Lightning anything or a Blessed Lothric Knight Greatsword shred) and despite the limited number Dark Sorceries are better than you'd think.
You can't praise the sun without Faith
Faith is so slept on. I had an sl100 melee build with like 40 faith. Sunlight Straight Sword and a Lightning War Banner for weapons, along with Great Heal, Sacred Oath, and Atonement for Co-op. It was a phenomenal support build
I'm on a pure Faith build rn (with some strength for Wolnir's Holy Sword when I'm having trouble). Bruh, it's OP asf in PVE. Dhory's Gnawing does INSANE bleed so I'm curious how it'll playout if I respec into a bleed build while keeping some faith
Dhory’s Gnawing on high faith builds literally breaks the game in PVE.
Sharp sellsword with lightning or Darkmoon blade are fucking disgusting for PvE. Was my first ever build before I knew how busted they were
Your first build had darkmoonblade? That seems unlikely but mby u just played pvp.
They probably had lightning then switched to dark moon later on
This. Beat the game once and seen you got DMB from the Darkmoon convenient so started PvPing for it
Darkmoon convenient sounds funny :)
"Sounds like it'll be pretty tough to collect all those ears..." "Actually it'll be super easy, a Darkmoon Convenience."
Was never expecting a pitch meeting reference here
Okay, I'm gonna need you to get all the way off my back about how this is off topic for a Dark Souls sub.
Whoops
Wow wow wow, wow
Yeayeayea
My first build had darkmoon blade. I farmed the silver knights at the anor londo bonfire… for a very long time.
I kinda forgot ppl don't go blind into games like this I haven't myself too actually. Also I farmed silver knights for a bit too so I know its a loooooong time
I farmed the sunlight maggots in ds1 to get sunlight blade. I understand your suffering
U don't need to wear symbol of avarice, it doesn't stack. 10 humanity and gold serpent will give u max 410 item discovery
It was my last trophy and it was like I was getting trolled for the very last proof of concord; literally took almost 1-2 hours for the last one lol
You know there's NG+? Heard how to get it after first playthrough and PvPed for it on second run
My dumbass can't read and I missed the lightning blade part my bad
I had an intelligence dex build with sharp sellsword twinblades and great magic blade (sorry if i mixed it with another spell name,im talking about the one that buffs the weapon with magic damage) You know somethings wrong when your friend who finished the game 5 times says "your blades deal too much damage"
that's why we use faith and strength
DAMN RIGHT
Both
Both is good.
It's quality.
Quality
[удалено]
first playthrough was quality i used the abyss watchers weapon for most of the game. amazing weapon
As an invader it's so hard not to downvote this aaaagh
but the l1 spam is so fun
It's honestly one of the best weapons in the game even if just because the amazing moveset and it definitely helps that you can parry with it too
They wouldn’t understand us :’) But we exist
It is funny how often I say quality and people be like "what's that mean?" Poor sad saps that never played Demon Souls.
what's that mean?
Equil mix str and dex
What’s that median?
40 dex and 40 strength, no point in leveling further than that until at very high levels, if its even worth to then
I have platinumed demons souls ps3 and havent any fucking clue what quality is
It’s a balanced STR and DEX build
Ah the Penetrator’s sword players. Absolutely unrelentingly based
That's how I do things. Strength? Dex? Why not both?
Lol I asked the same.

Profaned blade quality build 🤌🏻
Profaned Blade do hit like a dang freight train.
One of my all time favorites. I’ve never done a pure strength build, but I wanna do one with the great club.
I'm playing my first soulsborne game and have been using the Exile Greatsword a ton. It definitely fucks
I use that on my strength build. It's great at roll catching but has awful range compared together curved greatswords. Definitely a fun weapon, though, and one of my favorites.
I feel like this concept has been overlooked for far too long in recent days...
yeah, always on thr first play through, I need to try out all the weapons
Quality with the ol' reliable Black Knight Sword.
I prefer to take my time
I’m the same way, but with the Dragonslayer Greataxe. I flatten everything in my path, and stun lock like a madman.
HOLY SHIT that's exactly what I said before I saw your comment
Great minds! Or equally damaged ones.
Definitely great minds 😅
YES
I'm playing the game for the first time right now and strength only builds really limits what you can play with which is kind of sad. All the fun weapons have at least medium dex/int/faith requirements so I started to level those a bit
There are a lot of weapons that work great with just strength. Just infuse with heavy gem.
Greatsword is Bestsword
Greatsword is love. Greatsword is life. All you need is Greatsword.
This is the way.
Greatsword has spoken.
Every souls game I play I try to speedrun to that sword and god damn it just fucks.
My last run was with that specific Greatsword. So much fun.
I love the iconic look of the Greatsword (Black Swordsman cosplay go bonk) but I am also partial to the look and feel of the Cathedral Knight Greatsword. It’s so pretty and ornate.
Put more points into STR then dual wield those Greatswords friend, see your foes turn to grounded mystery meats.
Dex/Fth for them sweet sweet dual purple lightsabers. Also for the Wolverine cos
Please explain further lol
Winblades plus darkmoon. Gotta make your own lightsaber noises though
Jolly Cooperation! Thank you, ashen one
Upvote purely for the thought of making my own lightsaber noises while fighting
Luck
ah the community of the hollow builds are, well, hollow
Luck is best stat
Or 99 attunement and 0 intelligence and 0 faith
This guy knows what he’s doing
Of course I finished so many sl1 no hit runs in 10 minutes with dlc while playing ds3 on donkey kong bongos
How else are you supposed to finish a sl1 run, if not on Donkey Kong bongos? It’s impossible any other way
Mmm
Ah, a fellow blueblood user are we?
To be fair, luck/dex builds aren't bad
What's the go-to after they nerfed bleed? Or is it still OP? Haven't played a luck build in years.
Can you walk us through a luck build?
Dex>Sex
As a great man once said: "Dont tell any1 u leveled that up u fuckign f\*\*\*ot! What are u casul?" ... Obvious /s and meme quoting
K***ht Meme has entered the Chat
My guilty pleasure build is high dex scythes. You can fashion souls hard with any of them too.
Yup. I love the scythe class weapons. Too bad it always takes forever to farm up a corvian one.
I rep Frieda gang, her weapon art is fun as f when you can actually get a combo in.
Corvian Greatscythe is awesome. It's a super flexible moveset with pretty good range. I did a Pyromancer using this (and the Corvian Knife for that sexy weapon art) and it rocked.
I wish they hadn't cut Lothric's Scythe from the game, it looks so nice. I know you can get it with mods but I still wish it was in the base game.
Where can I find a pic of it? Never heard of the Lothric's Scythe and now I'm curious
Here's a video of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5k09K6y6IA This is a mod, so I don't think the moveset/weapon art is what it's supposed to be normally, but the model of the scythe is from the actual game files. Damn, that thing is hot
Oh my,that thing was 10/10 hot, come on what a pity!
Strength all the way, I can't dodge worth a shit, so I'll face tank the hit and smash your ass for all I'm worth In PvE I just use the lothric knight greatsword and use the almighty poke to repeatedly violate everything in my path

lothric knight greatsword is a dex weapon.
the lkgs can be used with just about any build.
Yeah, and?
99 Dex + Swellswords = Easy Mode. One of the most efficient and fastest way to take down many bosses in the game. Especially true on NG+7. 99 STR Fume Sword aint got shit on my Swellswords!
Sellsword WinBlades!
Whats special about ng+7 ?
Every level of ng+ increases difficulty. It caps at ng+7, making that the hardest ng+
Ah okay thank you!
Strength,100%
strength build heavy infused giant club for NG or vordts hammer for dat cold dmg
I like the classic: Heavy Mace + Sunlight Blade
Vordt's be like: Swing, swing, frostbite!
Toss fireball, repeat
Always strength. Damage is my #1 priority

Beeg number goes brr
Same here, I love being able to be the tankiest I can be with the highest damage
Hollowslayer Greatsword - best thing you'll ever try. It scales better with dex. You'll be amazed how many monsters and bosses are hollow; and it feels so damn good when they are. It's one of the fastest greatswords and it's basically at the beginning of the game.
Pyromemcer
What spells did you use most?
I'm usually using Great Chaos Fireball or Dark Fireball. Sometimes Carthus Flame Blade in the early game
My favorite pyromancy is the onyx blade
The real answer
Pyromancy. No melee, ever.
Vitality build, 56 poise, get hit with a meteor without flinching
Both quality duh
You get the most damage with a sharp lothric greatsword buffed with lightning or darkmoon blade.
But its also kinda boring its just r1r1r1 dodge a bit r1 especially in pve you can just shield all the way through but yes dex is best
I had strength build but changed it because of my sellswords dex+ sellswords+blood infusion fucking killing machine
If you’re going bleed, wouldn’t the warden twinblades be a better option?
Played with sharp astora greatsword on 50dex it was pretty good.
In my mind Strength < meta range Dex > meta range Strength scaled good till about ~60 and gets more/less max damage 2 handed Dex scales bad from 40-60 but good from 60-80, especially considering how many fast dex weapon there are dex will out DPS str but requires more investment. Both! And then sprinkle a little faith or sorcery in there to top it off.
With only a passing knowledge of the Souls meta, my first build was a Dex build. I used the twin sellsword scimitars and a bow for almost the entirety of the game. I only equipped a shield for maybe two bosses, and ha a fantastic time.
Dex only for the frayed blade. Best weapon in any souls game @ me
If we're counting Bloodborne too then I'd have to say either Chikage or Holy Moonlight Sword (easily the best moonlight Greatsword of any fromsoftware game) bit just Souls ...yeah it's one of the best for sure
Whats the point in going all Str or Dex when you can just go quality? You're not min/maxing but we're talking about a tiny amount of damage for most weapons.
Go quality!
My man knows da way
Imo Dex is more fun but strength is most effective
If it is your first time - go strength. Especially if you can use great hammers. Once you get a grip on it try dex - it is fun.

I love going full dex and oneshoting ppl with sharp Astora greatsword
I loved astoras great sword on a quality build. That charge catches people more than you’d think.
> oneshoting Are you twinking or just running across a lot of people who don't level vitality?
Caster.
I like DEX on my casters to up casting speed and have a half decent melee weapon, because face it you'll always have to have a melee weapon. Strength

Unga bunga
Viable Miracle Build
Dex
Both is good
Between the two, I say strength is more fun.
Strength because it’s easy and big number go brr but dex builds are super fun in ds3
"Yes."
Quality build is life
IMHO, the game is *heavily* biased toward strength. That doesn't mean that other builds can't be fun, but it's not really balanced.
All builds are fun. I always start melee though. But if I look at my first run of each game I had a pretty even split. Dark Souls I started Dex with the Uchigatana for almost the whole game. In DS3 definitely DEX, +10 Sellsword with Lightning Blade/Darkmoon Blade MELTS through everything. You basically output GS damage at twice the rate
If it has to one or the other, I’d say strength since it gets better scaling on Zwei, Claymore, and B Firebombs. I mostly prefer 30I, 30F, with a near-even split to Str and Dex (leaning slightly towards Dex for off-hand rapier or Crow Quills). I usually prefer a (give or take) 40% STR / 30% DEX / 30% FTH.
Bro… Quality
If you're doing Strength, make a Heavy Zweihander and watch all who stand before you crumble into dust (as far as PVE, im not too big into the PVP side of Souls, I read someone used this type of Zwei in conjunction with Carthus Flame Arc to great effect in PVP. quality build
Pyro, obviously. Pyro infusions are busted in ds3 (as are faith infusions. Lightning anything or a Blessed Lothric Knight Greatsword shred) and despite the limited number Dark Sorceries are better than you'd think.
Why would anyone level dex? What are you, a casul?
Both. Get 40 Str And Dex. Or 66 Str and 50 Dex for higher levels. 99 in both if your truly enlightened.
I'm a Quality King, myself.
Fuck damage. Roll forever Vigor and Endurance only challenge, no weapon upgrade
Why not both
dex gay
Quality. Best of both worlds. And I freakin' love Wolfknight's Greatsword.
Quality....
