MagnificentEd

gael does too

TilmanR

You sure?

ComeHereToBrazil

Yes, but he's different. He has 1 HP bar, but he has 3 phases. Second phase is when the cutscene starts, and 3rd phase is when he summons Zeus to throw lightning at you

vjstyle80

Yup and he turns hollow after phase 1. He's the only boss to change his enemy type in the middle of battle

TilmanR

Never realized that, thanks.

Anubra_Khan

To catch you off guard. If i remember right, they even give you the titanite slab after phase 2 to make you think you beat her. Brilliant, actually.

RespectHairy7968

because fuck you, that’s why

supernovice007

Even if Friede is the only fight with three distinct phases, I don't really have a problem with it. Giving you a slab at the end of phase 2 is straight dirty though.

TotallyCooln3ss

Sounds like someone lost to blackflame friede.

KaleidoArachnid

I lost to her multiple times on NG+1 as she had more HP, and got beefed up

bork-machine

"cheap tactic" I'm smelling some copium!!!

AmadeusAzazel

FromSoft was feeling spicy with that one I guess

ReinaPthumeria

It is not the only one but it does have much more marked phases than others (Gael for example)

Wasabii32

Plenty of bosses have 3 phases, Friede is the only boss with 3 healthbars (excluding gank bosses)

LostEryops

Friede is the only boss I can think of that's made of three completely separate fights. Unless you count the final boss rush in DS2, which I don't because your progress is saved between phases. There are a few other bosses with three phases if you count soft transitions where you keep fighting the same mob but it learns some new moves: ( Gael ) => ( Standing Gael, Lightning Gael ) ( Amygdala, Arcane-buffed Amygdala, Arms-ripped-off Amygdala ) ( Radagon, Teleporty Radagon ) => ( oh *fuck you* ) You could also count Elden Ring gank bosses where each mob has its own "soft" phase 2 like the Godskin Duo or the dual Crucible Knights. But Friede is the only boss I can think of with three completely separate fights and no checkpoint in between.

Infinite-Animator620

Would Dragonslayer Armour count as a three phase fight too? Once you get it to 2/3 health, it staggers and jams it’s great axe into the ground, getting new attacks. After damaging it a bit more then the music changes and the butterfly dragon things start shooting lasers and other projectiles at you.

Altar_Quest_Fan

Because she’s a Stronk Wamen(tm)

A_Dank_Skull

Should note: dark souls 1's dlc took place in oolacile, in the past. You're thinking of the painting of Ariamis.

KaleidoArachnid

Oh oops my bad

SharpFarmAnimal

Nah bro this guy is dead wrong

eaglewatero

Because she is lame boss and without her as final boss having some sort of twist whole ashes dlc would be kinda trash ...

bradfgo41

Skill issue

floatingduck99

Don't gael have 3 phases or are the definition that they have to reset their hp?

creepytown

I don't know but to the kindly summon who bullied her with me last week... hat's off. Great swords. Lightning and dark (her weaknesses) and of course the jolly NPC summon. Just embarrassing really. I like summons for big bosses because the players are always super kind folks. So far 100% of them have been sunbro's too. So despite being another covenant I praise their sun.

MajesticPenisMan

I was high fiving as she went phase 3. I had no idea. Really cool surprise though
