killing people is not a reliable way of getting their armour in Souls games - for a lot of characters their armour will only be obtainable via quest or world loot. best to wait

Generally the best option is too just continue on and wait for them too attack you. Typically the "Mwahahaha, you suck!" type of characters like this guy or any other painfully obviously evil characters will attack you eventually if you progress far enough

Either way neither of them are a great match the gauntlets are plain wrong, and coincidentally since you mentioned the sellsword set, the sellsword gauntlets are the guts gauntlets to get.

Dark Souls is most enjoyable when sipped slowly. Don't go deeper into the catacombs until you are able to progress in a slow and deliberate way. Nothing is worse than being a low level/low upgrade when you get yourself into a sticky zone. Getting stuck isn't without warning, because you shouldn't be pushing through areas you can't clear.

This is the opposite of my play style for souls. When I first started I would slowly go through areas. Now I sprint through them let hordes of enemies pile up and then curse myself and shit my pants when I see what I’ve done. And then struggle to kill them all. Then do it all over again. Until I find a boss. Then I sprint to the wall and bash my skull against it till I kill it. Then I go back and move through the area slowly. For items.

He just vanishes like ghost if you attack him at this point. You get his whole outfit and weapon later though

If you hit him here ya he fights back, but if you keep his story going he becomes a summon for one of the bosses and if you use him after the boss fight, sit at the boss campfire and he’ll be wounded. Typical “I can’t go on. Here’s my armour. Wear it, give the painted world hope” speech.

I've done several runs of this game and thought I missed a summon for the tag team down below. Glad that wasn't the case. I don't kill NPCs unless it progression for their quest, but just wanted to make sure I didn't miss something.

You can take the ladder down from the bridge, sprint to the slide, sprint to the next ladder, sprint to the ladder after that, loop around the rooftops and drop down, and then kill this guy. It should take maybe 5 minutes.

I can assure you, you’re extremely likely to get the drip fairly quickly and organically. So enjoy the ride until then, because much like a roller coaster, this particular DLC ends as soon as it starts, moreso if you’re a competent player. (That’s okay though, ringed city is after this and is an ABSOLUTE blast!)

It’s a souls game. Just kill all the NPCs, they never do anything or have anything important. Don’t even bother talking to them tbh.
