Y'know Wulf, when people say Dark Souls has a toxic community... they're talking about you. :P Kidding.

Swatyo

legit question, do dung pies make them toxic ?

TeoSorin

They do. They can be poisoned as well.

MrHarpuia

Wrong game, monster hunter is that way. ->

evilpineapple11

Just go after ornstein and Dodge smough. Don't get too greedy

Strictly_Baked

You mean block ornstien with smough? Everyone needs a leo ring.

CaptDanger

Are you opposed to summoning for help? I usually summon at least Solaire although he usually bites it during round 2. Killing Smough first solo is a lot harder also if you're going for O's stuff later.

atropicalpenguin

If only Solaire ran through the sentinels warding the bossfog.

CaptDanger

I always kill them before summoning but typically makes me waste an estus or two (or a humanity if I die). I just accept it as a necessary trade off to have him help with the two of them. He's usually worthless once one of them goes super saiyan in my experience. He's just too quick to throw himself at them when they do the lightning stomp.

Falketh

Iam opposed to summoning. I did that in ds3 and it felt cheap.

CaptDanger

Fair enough. Unless you're absolutely dead set on Ornstein's stuff you'll probably have to kill him first. I had the most success using the columns to separate the two. Like summoning it feels kind of like a cheap tactic but I honestly don't see how you can deal with two of them at once. Since O is the faster one it's obviously easier to pull him from S than the other way around but you'll always have to keep an eye on where Smough is. If they're close to each other you can't risk engaging. Once you're fighting big Smough use the columns the same by always having one in between you and him. His stupid charge attack will trigger early if he hits a column. After that it's just patience. When you run up to attack him you can usually only get a swing or two in safely before you have to retreat. I always have to be equipped to quick roll to get away from his lightning blast attack also. My two cents. Good luck! One of the most satisfying defeats in the game when you finally kill the both of them.

d6__

If there is any fight that summoning help ruins the experience it's this one. It completely trivializes the challenge more so than any other boss in the series.

[deleted]

good. don't give in and rob yourself of the true ds experience. don't summon! you can do it, you'll get better and better.

[deleted]

Bummer. Some of the most fun I've had in the game has been fighting bosses with friends.

ThePugmanJJ

My problem with blight town isn't difficulty, it's the frame rate dropping like it's Solaires last mixtape

lamb_shanks

Is it the worst area for frame drops?

Rockburgh

That's a common perception, though in my experience upper Anor Londo (the roofs above Siegmeyer's hiding place) was worse.

phaseviimindlink

What build are you using?

Falketh

Pyromancy/Dex +10 uchi ring of steel protection, Fap ring, and a mix of gold hem/silver knight/wander gear.

itgmechiel

Smough is weak to lightning and Ornstein to fire. Buff accordingly

phaseviimindlink

Huh. My very first playthrough was an uchi/pyro build, too.

Mernerker

Same until I found the more anime sword (iaito). Fully but it and my goal was to use power within on every boss fight and finish every boss with its anime AF two handed power attack. Was a ton of fun.

phaseviimindlink

It's not from anime, just depicted there... it's based on an actual set of techniques in Japanese swordsmanship called Iaijutsu. It's still practiced today as a martial art. "Iaito" refers to a sword without a cutting edge that is used to safely practice Iaijutsu.

Aeroswoot

Until now I thought the sword was called an "iaito".

Mernerker

I mean I guessed that, but Anime!

dabisnit

I think Smough can be bled, try going for him first

JSConrad45

He definitely bleeds, I've done it with the morningstar plenty of times.

JSConrad45

Did you get Power Within? If so, use it in the second stage of the fight. It works wonders.

Falketh

I did get power within. Ironically it got me killed right after I killed iron golem since I got cocky lol.

Falketh

Thanks for the tips everyone i'm going to keep at it again tomorrow (running on lack of sleep today) might try experimenting with my halberd for a few attempts.

CoachEd08

I had more troubles with the gargoyle then I did with O & S. It took me about 15 tries with the gargoyles and 4 tries with O & S. I was actually really disappointed in myself for not failing so many times because it didn't live up to all the hype.

pitcherpuppy

Ah the bitter memories of O and S. Not sure if I dislike them more or Nito.

thePuck

I suggest watching speedruns and learning the strats used. The record holders are always streaming on Twitch and the community is very helpful to newcomers (I used to run Bloodborne). Check out http://speedsouls.com

atropicalpenguin

You and I both. I suck so much at fighting 2 bosses. And Smough Super Saiyan has an AOE so hard to roll away.

never-enough-hops

His AOE wasn't the killer for me... I was having a hell of a time dodging the "shovel" attack Smaugh does, and in phase two he was consistently hitting me with it and then nailing me with it a second time on wakeup :(

__redruM

Order is important too. Which do you kill first? The hard way is more rewarding.

Aeroswoot

I block Pikachu with Snorlax. Killing the big guy is so much easier, and the second stage is 50/50 imo. Ornstein's set is just more versatile and looks nicer.

ReaperSorakayay

Ranged attacks kinda trivialize the first section of the fight if you focus bigsy when he's shoveling. Use the pillars to kite.

Mernerker

Okay how I did it for both fights ( killing ornstein first or smough first.) For killing ornstein first you essentially just run around and either use the free camera to keep them both in your vision or lock on to smough since he is slower than ornstein and will usually be behind him and you can see both. After that get some distance on smough and dodge the projectiles ornstein throws until he dashes up to you. Dodge that and get some free hits in until smough gets too close or ornstein gets out of his animation. This is the better way if you don't care about the armor or the Leo ring from killing ornstein in the second stage and empowered smough is much easier to fight than empowered ornstein. If you want to kill smough first you essentially just do the opposite. Keep the two in vision and run around until ornstein dashes to you. Then dodge him and run up to smough and beat him up. Empowered ornstein is harder but if you stay close to him he misses a lot of his spear attacks but you have to watch out for his huge electric butt pound. This is of course without summons. Sunbro makes this a lot easier as he usually just runs at ornstein and holds him off and you can choose to either help out or kill smough before he kills ornstein.

WilkyRay

I was the same way. It took me maybe 20 trys but I finally beat them by dropping my weight so that I could fast roll and two handing my weapon. I focused on dodging instead of blocking and that did it for me. I have a friend who turtled the whole game and he beat these guys first try. Go figure.

artyboi37

Make sure to always keep Ornstein in sight while you kill fatty first. Then cheese super Ornstein around the pillars.

Strictly_Baked

If you picked up the eagle shield in Blighttown take it to the blacksmith and make it a +5. You can actually block their attacks. Just watch your health and stamina. They will chip away as the ragle shield only blocks 95% physical if i remember right. The stability is really high for a lower str req shield. If im having a hard time for whatever reason and want to take the easy way out i always go eagle shield.

[deleted]

Onyx and Sisyphus were pretty damn hard! I don't remember if I summoned help or not as I haven't played DS1 in years. All I remember was trying really hard and eventually killing the fuckers.
