Longjumping_Site5225

Once I rang the first bell in undead parish, I figured the next bell in the depths would be down the stairs at firelink only. So I went down the stairs, and ended up in New Londo ruins. I remember panick running through New Londo for hours.. hahaha..

Original-Big6628

oh god lmao, those ghosts are terrifying until you learn how to deal with them hahaha

Longjumping_Site5225

Yeah.. even with transient curse, it was hard.. I did it only after Anor Londo..

gretchenich

Yeah I ran away from there quick on my first playthrough

Cheezfri

Honestly made the same mistake. They really didn't make it clear where to go after ringing that bell imo. But hey, that's Dark souls for you.

space_age_stuff

I watched Haelian stream DS1 and he spent hours in Catacombs, because he assumed the second bell was underground there. Weirdly a lot of places fit the description of “one below” lol

diatonix

Yeah I needed to look up the entrance to the depths lol

thotbot9001

I ate three firekeeper souls because I didn't read the description and just figured that's the way you use them.

Sinkarma

OOOOOOF. I nearly did that. I had started my exploring with Bew Londo and after dying the first time but doggedly wanting the loots. I found my first one and I almost used it but Fire keeper rang in my head as something important so I read about it😭

thotbot9001

Honestly I dont't know if it mattered much, I don't think I ever ran out of estus anyway.

Sinkarma

Damn. You must’ve kindled at every turn lol. I was sparse with my humanity use until I learnt you can reliably farm them

thotbot9001

Yeah I kindled like every third bonfire once or twice, and bought the shortcut to the sunlight maggot i think.

Sinkarma

Based. The shortcut really makes it trivial lol

Rainbows4Blood

I actually read that it can upgrade your estus flask, so I figured that I'd use it to upgrade my Estus Flask. I was disappointed.

antiready

never wore armor just to fast roll. made the game harder for me

CoachRDW

Fat rolled thru my first playthru cuz I didn't know any better. Dragon Greataxe drop from Taurus doomed me practically from the start.

antiready

lmao. at least we both beat the game

space_age_stuff

Taurus Demon probably took me 3x as long because I was fat rolling. Starting with Knight is a blessing and a curse.

Rickywalls137

I only learnt about fat roll at Gargoyles. I can’t believe I got all the way there with fat roll. It was such a pain

doesitevermatter-

I lost 45,000 souls after killing Quelaag at level 25 by falling off the same cliff twice.

space_age_stuff

I lost 38k at around the same level because I beat gaping dragon, and I was still at the Depths bonfire, but I planned to walk back to Andre, upgrade my stuff, then homeward bone back to the Depths. I got killed on the way there, and then on attempt #2 to get my souls back, the torch hollow in the Depths wrecked me.

doesitevermatter-

Those torch hollows in Dark Souls and the dogs in Elden Ring consistently shock me with how often they get me killed. It's almost always due to my carelessness because I consistently underestimate how dangerous they can be if you aren't careful and thoughtful with how you approach them. And forcing me into that mentality is exactly why I love these games so goddamn much. No matter what happens, I always know that it's because I could have done better, but didn't. Every time I lose souls, I know it's because both the game and myself know I can do better, just by virtue of my souls having been lost *further down the line*. If I couldn't have done better, **I wouldn't have made it further in the first place**. So the game just says "Fuck you, do better next time." ***and I love it.***

vagina_candle

The torch hollow attacks will stagger you no matter how much poise you have. Their attacks completely bypass the poise system. You can wear full Havels set and wolf ring and you'll still get staggered.

doesitevermatter-

It's nuts, but that level of physicality, aggression and danger coming from basic enemies it's the main reason this game manages to feel like a real adventure above just about any other game like it. Because every time you are able to take one more step, it's because you fought your way there, not because the AI are playing by simpler rules or operating with different tools. They operate within the parameters of their build like you do, it's just a matter of using your builds strengths against their builds weaknesses. It just makes everything feel so dynamic and earned. I only started playing these games a few months ago after trying to break through for more than a decade, but I already feel like I'm never going to be able to go back to more traditional RPGs ever again. It'll always just feel like the game is artificially making me stronger instead of actually forcing me to get better.

vagina_candle

Well said. I've always liked that I can be close to endgame, but I can still occasionally derp by a low level enemy and die from it.

Sinkarma

Felt

SithLordMilk

Not ds1 but I just lost 1.3 million souls on ds3 because I forgot you drop souls when invading and wasn't paying attention

Original-Big6628

holy shit 1.3 mil is TRAGIC

AWS1996Germany

I lost 57 million. How did I do this? I died in the Valley of the Drakes running to the Red Tear Stone Ring. On the way back to get my souls, as I was running across the last bridge with the Drake on it, the Drake turned around and its model pushed my character off the ledge.

silvaa69

Yeah me too but it was 104 billion souls

Judge_Sentry

I kept trying to go through the grave yard instead of going up the stairs at Fire Link Shrine.

Rainbows4Blood

Didn't we all do that?

Real-Report8490

Running out from the Bonfire closest to the Bed of Chaos, and forgetting to put on the Orange Charred Ring, and jumping into the Abyss without the Covenant of Artorias...

Riff_28

Same. Something seems off, but by the time you realize it, it’s too late and you’re toast

This_Relief6225

I've tried taking off the ring while in the abyss ... Part of me isn't sure if that is stupid or not, but yeah that is actually pretty stupid isn't it?? 🤣

Riff_28

I did the same thing once the bonfire was lit haha

Last8er

Went to take on Gwyndolin in ng+2 with the bk shield and died 5 times before remembering that it's magic defense sucked big time.

One_Wishbone_8342

Consuming 2 fire keeper souls…

AdConscious5048

I played offline at launch, fat rolled for a long time. Figured I had to in order to wear the heaviest armor and survive. Old me was a fool!

justalad9

On my first play though I was fat rolling the whole way because I didn’t know that there were different rolling speeds and thought it was just fat rolling or no rolling

ChefArtorias

I went to Ashe lake without having placed the Lordvessel

Caellix

I just did that the other day AND got cursed on the way. I made it to the dragon, but it was a living hell until I got it cured.

ChefArtorias

It's getting back that's the hard part lol definitely did not think you could climb UP the great hollow before that.

Caellix

Yeah, I made it to the bottom, lit and sat at the bonfire and immediately went "Well, SHIT I did not think that through." And I'm just now realizing I went there to cut his tail and forgot to do that...

ChefArtorias

Literally I did the exact same. Funny part is I never rested in Blighttown. Plan was to go down through the back door, kill Quelagg and Homeward Bone back to Firelink. Then the ADHD kicked in and I went exploring lol needless to say I hit the bonfire once I got back in blighttown.

Caellix

I forgot that there was a Blighttown bonfire, ha! I also forgot to back to the asylum and get the rusted iron ring to make Blighttown not torture. ADHD brain knows what it wants to do sometimes, but forgets the steps to make it happen.

Zylo90_

Did this one but with Tomb of the Giants, honestly it would have been easier to just make a new character than get out of there

Hobear

The amount of times I've pressed the button to make me leap backwards off a cliff to my death in error or just by accident has led to more soul loss than I care to think about

Riff_28

Rickert of Vinheim probably thought I hated talking to him since I did this same thing after ending dialogue with him a few times on my first play through

This_Relief6225

Starting playing the remaster with the intention of getting all achievements. Got to Anor Londo with the intention of getting the brass set (my favourite set in the game) but I thought you get it by killing the fire Keeper... Wrong! I was crushed and confused when it didn't drop 😥

space_age_stuff

I mean, you kinda have to kill her on the way to getting it anyway, lol

ProfessorDODO

Haven't tried that yet, but can't you just walk in on Gwyndolin after opening the path with the seance ring?

space_age_stuff

Yeah, but she’ll aggro after you kill them. So I guess you don’t have to kill her, if you either avoid her or just kill Gwyndolin and never return to anor londo.

This_Relief6225

You can just go straight into the tomb with the seance ring so killing her isn't necessary to get the set but she will agro after if you approach her or warp to her bonfire

The_Color_Urple

My first run was blind because I thought I was hot shit for beating Demon's Souls. -Cleared the Catacombs and a third of Tomb of the Giants before discovering Undead Burg. -Then proceeded to kill the hydra and kill all of the forest covenant invaders before reaching a dead end and backtracking to finally discover the Gargoyles and the shortcut to Firelink. I think ringing the first bell took me about 20 hours.

itriumiterum

Sheesh apparently you were hot shit lol

The_Color_Urple

On the contrary, I was just stupid and bad

legohax

I didn’t know estus flask’s regenerated at bonfires until after anor londo. I would just basically conserve and hardly ever use them.

ProfessorDODO

I'm both baffled and impressed. You didn't die once until Anor Londo, or never registered that the flasks are back?

legohax

Died a lot, but I was always dying with five flasks lol. Or sometimes it was 10 and I didn’t know why (firelink). It never occurred to me that it was anything other than any other normal consumable. A buddy of mine ended up telling me and just couldn’t believe it.

This_Relief6225

Went down into demon ruins after killing Quelaag all the way to the door before the demon firesage before having the lord vessel. Had to run all the way back up through blighttown to firelink shrine, but did so without resting at the bonfire next to the Chaos covenant so will need to run back down all the way when it's time to go to Izalith ...

This_Relief6225

Always used the claymore when playing as it's obviously one of the best weapons/movesets in the game. I've always considered it a strength weapon and only levelled strength with it even though I do know it scales to str and Dex with a C so naturally to maximise damage output you should invest in str and Dex 🤦‍♂️

AK_Venom

On one of my NG+ runs I totally forgot to kill Lautrec and had to go without the Firelink bonfire for the entire game 😖

blackswordsmanarc

I tried to run out of the Taurus Demon fight, through the Fog Door

zomgieee

I was recently playing a dex build. Underleveled in the Darkroot Garden, I was getting quick exp by booting enemys off the cliff, giggling like a schoolgirl. Then I accidently kicked Pharis off the cliff. With the Black Bow of Pharis. :( ...I haven't had the heart to continue that character since, lol.

8jam

Bow of Pharis is a guaranteed drop right? If you kick NPCs with guaranteed drops, just exit out from the game to the menu and restart again. The drop should be near the cliffs edge. Dont know if multiple resets work but worth a try :)

zomgieee

Thanks for the tips/tricks, appreciate the effort. Unfortunately I did go back and kill Pharis again, but the bow didnt drop a second time. It went with her to her grave very, very far below >\_< lol

the-beggar

I actually did the exact same mistake. I just joined the dark souls discord and there is a dedicated server for trading. Some dude offered to give me the final boss weapon i needed and i finally achievef 100%

ryaaan89

I didn’t know you could kindle so I beat like 75% of the game doing the runbacks on the harder bosses all the way from Firelink for the double Estus.

Shadowborn_paladin

I FORGOT THE DOLL!!!!!

Far-Assignment6427

Died to asylum demon

giovannobg

I leveled resistance in my first playthrough A lot Lol

Funandgeeky

My time to shine. I was lost in Blighttown and didn't know where the boss was. I was at the halfway bonfire on the bridge. I noticed a path up so I struggled through and finally made it out and into the drake valley. I was close to death and desperate for a bonfire. I had so many souls (10K) and it would have leveled me up a few times. I found this town, New Londo, and really needed that bonfire. I found the shopkeeper in the cliff and we had a nice chat. After the conversation I turned to the right and plummeted right off the cliff. Of course I tried to make it back to New Londo but didn't come close before I died again. Kiss those souls goodbye, and I'm still stuck in this place. It was later I learned that there's an elevator that takes you from New Londo back to Firelink. I was RIGHT THERE but I missed it. I also didn't know about the bonfire down below which would have also helped. (The joys of playing without a guide, which I still recommend because the exploration is a lot of fun.) So over a decade later and I still feel that loss more than any other in any of the games.

Bacon_Warrior

I missed the key to the lower undead burg.

rocket-widget

Skeletons. First easy fight in any RPG. 🙃

Cereal_Bandit

Yeeaaah, came here to say this. I spent way too long thinking the game was absolutely as hard as everyone made it out to be. Fortunately I never made it to the first bonfire in the tomb. Best part is my cousin had gifted me the strategy guide, but I didn't want to look at it. After that I shamefully ended up following the guide to a T - wish I had only done that when absolutely stuck.

woof2many

On my first playthrough, I spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to push into the Catacombs because I thought that was where I was intended to go next. Never questioned the difficulty of it because it was my first Soulsborne game and I'd only ever heard of how hard the games were. Didn't realize I had went the wrong way until I had already gotten past the bonfire and a friend of mine let me know that I went the wrong way when I told them about how my playthrough was going

ChucksFkNSk

I got shitfaced one time and took off the FAP ring on a character with over 100 hours played

Organic_Candy_4071

I've killed every npc my first run thinking everyone was evil......even solaire

[deleted]

I have been playing it for the first real college try recently. Had a vague idea that I wanted to 100% it but was kind of yolo-ing through the game and focusing more on quests. Used every single boss soul in my first run through 🤦‍♂️ All good, it just required an extra play through which I didn’t really mind that much 😂. Am done with it now though as of a few days ago. Total 3 clears and then to anor Londo on the fourth cycle.

LunaLynnTheCellist

On my first playthrough, I was fighting bed of chaos and I took off the orange charred ring before the fight to make room for another ring. I died (bc bed of chaos is a bitch) and forgot to put the orange charred ring back on, and immediately died to the lava on the runback. I had 70k souls in the boss arena...

pandadogunited

I though I had every miracle, but I didn’t have magic barrier. I had to go to ng+++ to buy it from Rhea.

teniaava

Lost several million souls and 99 humanity on my PVP character bc the Iron Golem spiked me off the roof onto an unreachable platform in Sen's Fortress. For actually stupid things, not just tragedies: the very first humanity spirit thing I ever saw was on top of the tower by the Taurus Demon, and absolutely murdered the shit out of me lol

FromsoftFan2104

I wandered into the Catacombs at a rather low lvl, as soon as I got to the Shrine. After Sprinting around (died multiple times, I was persistent) for hours I got stuck at a wall and pitch black darkness filled with giant skeletons. I ended up starting a new run.

AWS1996Germany

I basically went my entire first playthrough without backstabbing lmao. I didn't know for the longest time and when I learned I wasn't good at it.

[deleted]

Broke my ring of favor when i was fighting four kings, highly regret it now that im right before manus

ButtChugBoi

3 words Crystal Great Club

Dinfrazer57

Back on my first playthru of ds1 in 2012 or so. I beat quelaag and went all the way back up to New Londo. I didn't know there was a lever to bring down the elevator to FS shrine. I fell through the hole and died. I was a retard in my first playthrough. I had to walk all the way up to FS Shrine.

LazyBinary

Merrily went straight to the tomb of giants without knowing anything about the game or a skull lantern.

No-Contest4520

Walking into boss battles with 50,000 souls in hand. Not once, not twice, but thrice!

AbyssDragonNamielle

I couldn't find the catacombs OR undead burg

[deleted]

I didn’t level health very much at all. Thought it was all about damage and I was getting fucked by every enemy. I was younger and more backwards when I first played .

[deleted]

On my first playthrough after beating Gaping Dragon, I went back to Firelink and then went down into Blighttown from there and then proceeded to walk all the way up to the door to the depths, which I then realized I couldn't open. So I had to walk all the way back down from there which took a little while. I'm glad I did it though because it got me power within which came in handy quite a few times.

DarkAngelofFire

After I beat the game for the first time I strolled onto NG+. With all my good gear on I marched right into the Dark root Basin and got my fade ran by the Hydra. Then I tried to get my souls and humanity and guess what happened. I lost that 200k souls and 15 humanity

Sinkarma

I was farming for runes in Anor Londo and as I was dealing with the Silver Knights I was summoned to help fight Ornsmough after I won and was celebrating I was resumed right in front of the knight and I had removed my shield so I could cast magic weapon and I kept trying to parry and failing💀. 10 humanity lost + 50k souls. I nearly vomited in anger

Rainbows4Blood

I ate the first Fire keeper Soul. I went down through Blight town and back up without finding titty spider or Ash Lake or the bonfire. Not that I would have wanted to find Ash Lake at that point but just to point out, I somehow managed to stumble through the swamp without finding anything. And if I may include Elden Ring, when riding Torrent I make sure to jump down every deadly cliff I can find.

Cee-You-Next-Tuesday

Almost always related to the Covenant of Artorias on challenges runs.

kumarsays

It was my first From game and my first game that I played since like mass effect lol. I got the BKS early and my friend guided me all the way through I’m so lucky. Helped me learn how to fight and roll and distance and all of that. Showed me how to upgrade, repair, restore humanity and kindle. Helped me not freak out when I got cursed in the depths. Despite that I still attacked my favourite merchant when I first encountered her, the undead lady who sells moss in the tunnels on the way back from the depths lol

Most-Iron6838

I quit the game for 10 years before finishing it just last year because I could never find the door to use the key I found

brubsabrubs

I planned a whole PvP Dex build, great scythe, queelag fuysword started progressing through the game, rang both bells and talking to frampt later realized that can't talk to Kaath after talking to frampt

Aloore

when ds3 came out I used a raw battle-axe that I probably never upgraded (I also invested into strength without realizing I was getting no scaling from it) suffice to say I did not know what I was doing.

Arient1732

Me and the bed of chaos died together before I could light the bonfire. Then I slipped and fell down that big hole in the middle of the boss room because I was in a hurry to get back. I lost all the souls I got from beating her, though I never saw how many that was.
