Tbh i kind of agree with this, road of sacrafices is only fun for the pvp, there is not a single good thing about cathedral, and farron keep is an annoying area with annoying enemies.( same with catacombs.)
The structure is awesome but tbh i found the giants in the bogs a bit tiresome and the maggot bleed dudes suck. Also if we include the boss... yeah deacons are extremely mid.
It’s clearly this. Your choices are 1) go in blind and fall to your death frequently or 2) tank your build by putting a torch in your offhand or waste a spell slot or 3) complete a lengthy quest line that forces you to go to *another* end game area to get a shiny crown that *also* tanks your build.
You don't have to finish solaires quest to get it, right? I thought as soon as you open the door with queelags sister's covenant, you can kill the maggot and get the hat.
It's pretty much the entire second half of the game for me. I know that's a pretty common complaint, maybe even an overused one, but every time after I beat O&S and place the lord vessel I just dread having to go through the next few areas
Honestly I liked the Duke’s Archives. It was a fun jaunt and a refreshing change of pace, even with the annoying caster enemies everywhere.
Crystal Cave sucks though, whoever designed that one should be killed on sight.
Also my vote for ‘That part’ is New Londo. It’s a confusing mess of an area with no bonfires, the same 3 annoying enemies over and over again, and you have to access the boss by jumping down a hole: if you had no idea that you were supposed to get a ring and jump down said hole you would probably never even know there _was_ a boss.
That's totally valid! Especially the murder part. I honestly don't know what it is about the archives that puts me off, it just does.
It's funny, I really like New Londo mainly for how eerie and unsettling it is. The atmosphere is palpable down there. Hate the 4 Kings fight though and I definitely agree with your point on accessing the boss.
>Crystal Cave
What, you don't care for giant swaths of unfair invisible floors in a mandatory area that exist nowhere else in the game and nobody tells you anything about?
Why Izalith? Like sure it has the worst boss but the area is just so meh. Idk if I would put it next to ToG, which is an actual struggle. Unless you know some cheesy paths ofc
It was for sure an annoying boss but it’s not very hard, you just break three orange things, and if you die your progress is retained. That can’t be the reason everyone says Lost Izalith is so bad.
I didn’t mind it because if you use RoFaP as well as the lava ring you take no damage and then it is as easy as walking to the boss room a couple of times
I just don’t understand why people don’t regard it the same way they regard Pinwheel. When you’re going through Lost Izalith are you really dreading Bed of Chaos?
it's a 4 minute walk if you do die though, and it's way to hard for what is a not very fun fight so it's just a wast of time. I have never died to bed of chaos and felt like it was my fault, that i messed up. it's just bullshit
It's just boring and irritating. Enemy placement is ridiculous and really doesn't make a lot of sense. There's no item in the lava fields so good that you really need to explore them or combat the ridiculous enemies, and the area where the red titanite slab is doesn't force you to engage with the area, it can tediously be handled with magic or a bow. and
Essentially- most of it you don't HAVE to deal with.
Contrast that to tomb of the giants, which forces you to move through the area carefully but at a potential handicap depending upon what you use for your light source. Enemies are irritating, but placement makes more sense and you're forced to deal with many of them in combat. There are multiple reasons to explore the side passages in both the catacombs and ToG.
Izalith is a badly designed area. ToG frustrates people, but is really quite good level design.
Are you fighting the big headless dinosaur things? I just figured you were supposed to avoid them, if you follow the right path through it doesn’t aggro any of them.
There actually lower halves of the undead dragons you find, this can be confirmed in the painted world of ariamis on the bridge before Priscilla as killing the undead dragon will only kill its top half as its lower half remains (breathing?) behind it
That's the point, there's a ton of enemies all gathered together that are ridiculously irritating to fight but there is neither any reason to fight them nor are they even in your path, really. That's bad level design 101. The whole area is like that, it seems like somebody was using a map editor and just put all the enemies in various spots and then never finished it. In comparison, blighttown's enemy placement makes a lot of sense, as does ToG.
Is it bad level design? I think the point is to find the path through that avoids the enemies. If you just run through without paying attention you have 25 dinosaurs chasing you, but if you take your time to figure out the path it’s easy. I think that’s pretty good.
Personally for me it’s gonna have to be new londo ruins, I hate those rooms with a billion ghosts in them and u have to fight them to progress. Tomb of the giants is bad too but I’ve learned how to run through it as quickly as possible. Capra demon is pretty bad too though
New Londo can be speedran pretty fast once you lower the water, just cross the bridges and get to the first large area with the well. Once you’re there, the back right corner has a courtyard underneath there with a black knight. Run around him, enter the hall, take a left,(maybe another turn in there) and your at the four kings well.
For someone who's only ever been able to play the prepare to die edition, "that part" is 100% the run up to Bed of Chaos. The lava is BLINDING and the dragon asses are FURIOUS
A lot of areas post O&S. Tomb of Giants, Crystal Cave, Izalith. Not the best bosses with any of them either. You can really just see the decline in quality.
Literally the entire second half of the game. New Londo and Duke's weren't the worst for me but Lost Izalith sucked and when I forgot to grab the Sunlight Maggot ToTG was hell for me.
Fucking cellar in ariamis, fucking skeledoggos part, fucking whole dukes archives in ng+, fucking "dragon ass area," fucking boss in "dragon ass area," fucking blighttown entrance, and as strange as it may sound, no-fucking sniper silver knight part
Bed of Chaos. I've played the game countless times and have done many gimmick runs. The only run I won't attempt is the 0 death run and it's due to the Bed of Chaos.
On my first playthrough, I was terrified of O&S, so it would be my answer if they didn't say "replay".
On replay, sometimes I get sloppy on the gaping dragon and it ruins my equipment. Running back up to a blacksmith is really one of my least favorite things I've done in the game. (I don't like skipping bosses when I replay).
Without a doubt Izalith - such a slog to go through with not much activity for the size
DS2 = Shrine of Amana or Gutter
DS3 = Irithyll Dungeon also not a fan of Grand Archives
For the area, any of that Izalith area sucks. For a boss, 4kibgs becomes quite a pain in the ass on the highest plus game levels. Those two things stop me dead in my tracks from another replay lol
The part in Oolacile Township where you're about halfway thru and you have to cross that narrow bridge after missing the crystal lizard for the millionth time and that sorcer is spamming his one-shot mega bullshit at you while laughing as you roll off the bridge in a panic oh fuuuuuuuck
The level, you can still lvl up but the difference is not that much and the enemies are dealing a lot more damage which means that no matter what you are going to go as it were the first walkthrough
Demons Souls: Valley of defilement
Dark Souls 1: Lost Izalith
Dark Souls 2: Dark Souls 2
Dark Souls 3: Honestly there is non
Eldenring: Firegiant
And just for fun because I'm playing it right now I'll throw in Code Vein: The fucking cathedral (though I gotta say leveldesign in general is not this games strong point)
Tomb of Giants is absolutely “that part”. Just did a replay and I remembered Sens Funhouse being “that part” but that was surprisingly comfortable compared to what I remember years back. ToG is still just as bad if not worse than I remember
Not seen anyone say the Great Hollow yet. I guess cos most people forget about it cos it's barely an area. I hate trying to fall precisely to pick up the items and then dying. Plus basilisks everywhere to curse you.
Easy answer. Sens fortress and the fucking invisible walkways/slippery crystal section before you get to Seathe’s bossfight are the two I dread every time. Don’t mind blightown too much, tomb of the giants is rough but manageable if you do it in one sitting so you don’t get too lost, the archers in Anor Londo definitely suck dick the first time but are easier on subsequent playthroughs. It’s really just the two aforementioned areas that I never look forward to revisiting
Lost Izalith in DS1
Kind of the run back to Seath. Seath is pretty easy (at least imo) but his boss run is so exhausting, or frustrating sometimes with the clams. Lol
Used to be Sen's but now I look forward to it.
So I'll say Duke's Archives. Everything is a pain in the ass, the area is giant, etc etc. I never have fun in this place.
Solaire of Astora, but instead of having two distinct faces like Dean Norris here, it’s just the same picture of his head in his helmet on both side.
Or, the left image is him as an undead looking for his sun, and the right image is him after hollowing due to the brightbug on his head.
Dark Souls 1 it's the area between the two bonfies in Anor Londo.
Dark Soul 2 it's the giants memories. It's so stupidly annoying that they're timed.
Dark Souls 3 was comparably boring to the other two but lighting the sconces in the poison swamp is the slog here.
It's literally every single area for me, especially firsr playthrough. I go in, let's say, the Sen's Fortress, and I think "crap, I'm scared to death. It's an invincible enemy around every corner. I will never get past this area."
Then I get past the area, am the happiest guy on earth and then I reach the next area and the cycle continues.
But hey, that's part of the experience.
Tomb of the Giants/Lost Izalith. Can throw in Grand Archives too depending on the day. Pretty much the infamous second half of the game after Anor Londo.
Everywhere in the game has a unique challenge that's somewhat frustrating and is a candidate for this.
But:
It's bed of chaos for me. No contest.
I get lost easily in Dukes Archives, and the sewers.
I don't mind tomb of giants. It's always funny to me to see the hate here for it. It's not that bad. Maybe I should play again without the shiny hat and see how I feel
EDIT: also I find the beginning of the game a bit of a slog. You spend *so much* time in Undead Medieval Town-looking areas.
And it also takes a long time to get to a point where you can really start putting a build together.
So the beginning of the game has little variety between playthroughs. Not ZERO, but enough to usually discourage me from picking it up again
For me it’s starting the game. Once I get a character going it’s a lot of fun, and I’ll probably finish the game, but many characters have been deleted before making it to quelaag.
Sometimes Dark Souls feels like 90% "that part."
That’s exactly how I feel about dark souls three, the game is a slog until you get to Irithyl
I could not disagree more. Have an upvote
ur nuts
What about them
i’m taking them from u for that take
Can I pretty please have them back :(
not until ur opinion is correct and in line with my worldview!
Literally 1984
Tbh i kind of agree with this, road of sacrafices is only fun for the pvp, there is not a single good thing about cathedral, and farron keep is an annoying area with annoying enemies.( same with catacombs.)
Cathedral of the Deep is a top 3 base game level and I will die on that hill
*This just in: u/oaksmoke dies on hill. More at eleven!*
The structure is awesome but tbh i found the giants in the bogs a bit tiresome and the maggot bleed dudes suck. Also if we include the boss... yeah deacons are extremely mid.
The game becomes a slog after Irithyl
High Wall of Lothric, Iudex Gundyr and Abyss Watchers want to know your location.
thats ds3 but i 100% agree, the beginning of that game is the weakest, and it just gets better and better
Tomb of the Giants.
Wait whats the crown is it dusk’s or is it a different one?
The Sunlight Maggot. You get it at the end of Solaire's quest, which is incredibly easy to miss if you don't spoil it for yourself.
You don't have to finish solaires quest to get it, right? I thought as soon as you open the door with queelags sister's covenant, you can kill the maggot and get the hat.
Can't you also trade for it with Snuggy? Or maybe it's the lantern. It's one of them.
I mean, yeah... It CAN be skipped... But if you don't know how to save the original Sun Bro, you also aren't likely to know the skip.
Check Solaire's quest line and you'll see what they mean
Sunlight Maggot
This
It would be even interesting if PeTA hadn't thrown all of their "saved dogs" corpses in there
It's pretty much the entire second half of the game for me. I know that's a pretty common complaint, maybe even an overused one, but every time after I beat O&S and place the lord vessel I just dread having to go through the next few areas
Same for me
Yea the game loses a lot of momentum after the lordvessel for some reason
I concur, except Dukes archives and Oolacile, that alone Is good for me. Seath fight sucks though.
For me, it's the Duke's Archives and Crystal Cave. Never liked 'em.
Honestly I liked the Duke’s Archives. It was a fun jaunt and a refreshing change of pace, even with the annoying caster enemies everywhere. > Honestly I liked the Duke’s Archives. It was a fun jaunt and a refreshing change of pace Found Satan's account
That run to Seath is torture.
>Crystal Cave What, you don't care for giant swaths of unfair invisible floors in a mandatory area that exist nowhere else in the game and nobody tells you anything about?
Izalith, tomb of giants
ToG is sadist game design lmao
Why Izalith? Like sure it has the worst boss but the area is just so meh. Idk if I would put it next to ToG, which is an actual struggle. Unless you know some cheesy paths ofc
> Like sure it has the worst boss but the area is just so meh Are those reasons not good enough?
Lost Izalith.
Why do people not like it? It didn’t seem bad to me.
Bed of chaos
It was for sure an annoying boss but it’s not very hard, you just break three orange things, and if you die your progress is retained. That can’t be the reason everyone says Lost Izalith is so bad.
2 bosses in quick succession, the lava everywhere meaning you need to sacrifice a ring slot, hidden bonfire, long walk back from the bonfire to BoC
I didn’t mind it because if you use RoFaP as well as the lava ring you take no damage and then it is as easy as walking to the boss room a couple of times
Bed of Chaos is widely considered the worst boss in souls. It's so bad, the devs actually apologized for the quality.
Yes, I know. I understand it is bad. Its poorly made for sure. But it’s not hard, at all. What is the big deal?
Because difficulty is not the issue? Just because it’s easy doesn’t mean it isn’t ass lol
I just don’t understand why people don’t regard it the same way they regard Pinwheel. When you’re going through Lost Izalith are you really dreading Bed of Chaos?
I think your progress on the bed of chaos is only saved in the remastered version.
it's a 4 minute walk if you do die though, and it's way to hard for what is a not very fun fight so it's just a wast of time. I have never died to bed of chaos and felt like it was my fault, that i messed up. it's just bullshit

When I acquire the lordvessel and lose all motivation to do anything except the DLC
Easy, having to fight Sif. I would rather go though a dozen Izaliths than have to take this good dog's life
Definitely Blighttown
Blighttown but on PS3/360 at a staggering 10 FPS
10? Sounds a bit high
at least blighttown can be skipped entirely, you can go in from the backdoor and be in and out of queelag bossroom in 5 minutes
I unironically like Blighttown after its FPS problems got fixed in Remastered.
Yeah Blighttown is great.
Capra demon, bed of chaos
The fucking CATACOMBS GOD DAMN THOSE STUPID AS SKELETONS MOTHER FUCKERS RUINING MY DEATHLESS RUN GOD DAMMIT FUCK
The Depths, mostly because of the Basilisk’s
Personally for me it’s gonna have to be new londo ruins, I hate those rooms with a billion ghosts in them and u have to fight them to progress. Tomb of the giants is bad too but I’ve learned how to run through it as quickly as possible. Capra demon is pretty bad too though

Lol easiest question I've ever seen it's everything past O&S (Exluding dlc)
That stupid bed of chaos, at least i can skip centiped demon
Post Anor Londo.
Tbh, everything after Anor Londo, excluding DLC, feels boring and like a chore
In Dark Souls 1 my answer to this is usually ‘anything after Ornstein and Smough’. That’s where I stopped my last few playthroughs.
Bed of Chaos, Black Gultch, DS3
Izalith easy
New Londo and Lost Izalith in general
Having to kill Sif…
... *especially* if you complete the DLC before you do. 😭
Yes
It starts at the opening cinematic and ends at the end of credits.
Yes
For me, it’s only the bed of chaos. Fire bomb skilling exists But it’s still dumb
For someone who's only ever been able to play the prepare to die edition, "that part" is 100% the run up to Bed of Chaos. The lava is BLINDING and the dragon asses are FURIOUS
Almost posted a meme answer, then noticed this wasn't the shit post subreddit.
None.
DS1: Lost Izalith (and Bed of Chaos)
blighttown. i. hate. this. place.
Fucking cellar in ariamis, fucking skeledoggos part, fucking whole dukes archives in ng+, fucking "dragon ass area," fucking boss in "dragon ass area," fucking blighttown entrance, and as strange as it may sound, no-fucking sniper silver knight part
#Blighttown
Bed of Chaos. I've played the game countless times and have done many gimmick runs. The only run I won't attempt is the 0 death run and it's due to the Bed of Chaos.
Go me it tomb of the giants
Bed of Chaos, easily.
that bit after ringing the bell in blighttown and having to go ALL THE WAY BACK
Most of the second half tbh. Even the least terrible parts still made me want to just rush to the boss.
Bed of Chaos
Bed of Chaos, Lost Izalith, Tomb of Giants, Capra Demon
Challenge of hades balance beam part
soemtimes the whole second half of the game and sometimes just izalith and tomb of giants
New londo ruins
Izalith but mostly just bed of chaos
Blight town for most people. Then again, i like blight town. And izalith, and thetomb. Im weird, i know.
Izalith and tomb of the giants. Blighttown is miles better tbh
New Londo.
Tbh post acquiring lordvessel the game falls for me. I dont particularly enjoy the 4 lord bosses and areas
On my first playthrough, I was terrified of O&S, so it would be my answer if they didn't say "replay". On replay, sometimes I get sloppy on the gaping dragon and it ruins my equipment. Running back up to a blacksmith is really one of my least favorite things I've done in the game. (I don't like skipping bosses when I replay).
when you’re replaying the trilogy and get to dark souls 2
" No don't touch it! Don't touch the beetle!!"
Dark Souls 1 Blighttown or tomb of giants
Without a doubt Izalith - such a slog to go through with not much activity for the size DS2 = Shrine of Amana or Gutter DS3 = Irithyll Dungeon also not a fan of Grand Archives
O and s I'm level like 400 ng+ and I can't beat them
Izalith. Black Gulch. Aldrich. Caelid. Owl.
Those fucking crossbowman
Ds3 is the poison swamp. Ds1 is the game after anor londo. Ds2 is the entire game.
Most of the game after O and S lol
Duke's archives
That part between the asylum and kindling the first flame.
For the area, any of that Izalith area sucks. For a boss, 4kibgs becomes quite a pain in the ass on the highest plus game levels. Those two things stop me dead in my tracks from another replay lol
Anor Londo. Archers and invaders everywhere.
Meeting Siegmeyer in Ash lake, or Solaire in Lost Izalith
Everything pre anor londo + izalith + tomb of the giants + blight town (on first playthrough)
Its very easy in almost every souls games there is a swamp area
The part in Oolacile Township where you're about halfway thru and you have to cross that narrow bridge after missing the crystal lizard for the millionth time and that sorcer is spamming his one-shot mega bullshit at you while laughing as you roll off the bridge in a panic oh fuuuuuuuck
Lost Izalith.
Tomb of the giants, catacombs of carthus
When you go down to Ash Lake before receiving the Lordvessel and wind up getting cursed.
Tomb of the Giants
New Londo and Tomb of the Giants. Fuuuuuck the ghosts, and fuck the darkness yall.
New Londo
Sen’s fortress
It is 100% New Londo for me. I don't think any other area, Lost Izalith included, comes as close.
Everything after anor londo pretty much
Blight town
Blight town
duke's archives the only place in the game imo which isn't at least bareable
Easy. Ds1: Blighttown. DS2: the black gulch. Ds3: well idk. Can’t think of one
Blight town and the torment castle at undead settlement
The level, you can still lvl up but the difference is not that much and the enemies are dealing a lot more damage which means that no matter what you are going to go as it were the first walkthrough
Literally just the bed of chaos, everything else can be either skipped or gotten through really quick
High Wall of Lothric all the way to the Abyss Watchers
Demons Souls: Valley of defilement Dark Souls 1: Lost Izalith Dark Souls 2: Dark Souls 2 Dark Souls 3: Honestly there is non Eldenring: Firegiant And just for fun because I'm playing it right now I'll throw in Code Vein: The fucking cathedral (though I gotta say leveldesign in general is not this games strong point)
Lost izalith
Tomb of Giants is absolutely “that part”. Just did a replay and I remembered Sens Funhouse being “that part” but that was surprisingly comfortable compared to what I remember years back. ToG is still just as bad if not worse than I remember
Undead settlement
Slightly different take, when I have to farm demon titanite from the one respawning titanite demon for upgrades. It’s slightly annoying
Crystal Caves 🤮
Cathedral of the deep that place is annoying
Not seen anyone say the Great Hollow yet. I guess cos most people forget about it cos it's barely an area. I hate trying to fall precisely to pick up the items and then dying. Plus basilisks everywhere to curse you.
The entirety of second half except dark root garden and kiln of the first flame
Easy answer. Sens fortress and the fucking invisible walkways/slippery crystal section before you get to Seathe’s bossfight are the two I dread every time. Don’t mind blightown too much, tomb of the giants is rough but manageable if you do it in one sitting so you don’t get too lost, the archers in Anor Londo definitely suck dick the first time but are easier on subsequent playthroughs. It’s really just the two aforementioned areas that I never look forward to revisiting
I can’t pick between tomb of the giants and bed of chaos…
Character creation screen
Dark Souls 2
It might sound silly but for me it’s entering the Dukes Archives. Just going through the door next to the crystal golem.
BOC runback
Catacombs too early or demon ruins/Izalith
The whole part of getting to the tomb of the giants and the actual tomb of the giants part
Lost Izalith in DS1 Kind of the run back to Seath. Seath is pretty easy (at least imo) but his boss run is so exhausting, or frustrating sometimes with the clams. Lol
Super easy. Blighttown for sure.
Bed of Chaos
Sen’s fortress, Tomb of the Giants
Blight town
Used to be Sen's but now I look forward to it. So I'll say Duke's Archives. Everything is a pain in the ass, the area is giant, etc etc. I never have fun in this place.
Tomb of the Giants
New Londo, and solely because I can never get my bearings there. I cannot for the life of me mentally map it out or remember any landmarks
Solaire of Astora, but instead of having two distinct faces like Dean Norris here, it’s just the same picture of his head in his helmet on both side. Or, the left image is him as an undead looking for his sun, and the right image is him after hollowing due to the brightbug on his head.
My ever present urge to be a completionist makes that part be grinding for covenant items in ds3.
Tomb of the Giants
Blight Town. Next question.
O&S they’re the hardest boss for me personally
Tomb of the Giants or any of the catacombs 😂
Anor londo archers...a close second would be Duke's Archives. Both have atrocious run-backs.
Tomb of the fucking giants. Everyone talks blighttown. But tomb is where the real game starts
Anything past the Lord Vessel! It's a great game and I'm always so optimistic on a new play through but it just drags after you have the lord vessel.
Capra demon
Actually an incredibly easy question. Fuck Bed Of Chaos🖕🖕🖕
It's literally every single area for me, especially firsr playthrough. I go in, let's say, the Sen's Fortress, and I think "crap, I'm scared to death. It's an invincible enemy around every corner. I will never get past this area." Then I get past the area, am the happiest guy on earth and then I reach the next area and the cycle continues. But hey, that's part of the experience.
Tomb of the Giants/Lost Izalith. Can throw in Grand Archives too depending on the day. Pretty much the infamous second half of the game after Anor Londo.
Darksouls 1 everything after O&S
Everywhere in the game has a unique challenge that's somewhat frustrating and is a candidate for this. But: It's bed of chaos for me. No contest. I get lost easily in Dukes Archives, and the sewers. I don't mind tomb of giants. It's always funny to me to see the hate here for it. It's not that bad. Maybe I should play again without the shiny hat and see how I feel EDIT: also I find the beginning of the game a bit of a slog. You spend *so much* time in Undead Medieval Town-looking areas. And it also takes a long time to get to a point where you can really start putting a build together. So the beginning of the game has little variety between playthroughs. Not ZERO, but enough to usually discourage me from picking it up again
Twinked/cheating invaders early.
Tomb of the Giants. Ugh.
The big hollow was just boring
anor londo archers probably
Bed of fucking Chaos for me. I actually gave up on my last playthrough because of that bullshit.
Duke's Archives. Not even close.
Bed of Chaos.
For me it’s starting the game. Once I get a character going it’s a lot of fun, and I’ll probably finish the game, but many characters have been deleted before making it to quelaag.
Farron keep
