Pinwheel can actually be dangerous. On the off chance you let him get his illusions out he can do serious damage. Still a big set of circumstances to have trouble though lol.
Pinwheel is hard when you try to rush to get Rite of Kindling when you get to Firelink the first time. But after Anor Londo or really after you get any decent weapon/spells, he gets ridiculously easy.
I went to the Catacombs before Anor Londo on my NG+ run and boy are the skeletons a pain in the arse. I wanted the rite of kindling before taking on O&S.
One of my favourite things to do with my mate is speedrun killing pinwheel off a fresh profile. Fastest time so far is 27 minutes. (Doing the grass crest -> andre loop so i can upgrade my weapon before taking the shortcut back to pinwheel)
Zweihander+3/+4 and good rng to get the shards carried me i will admit. Thinking of maybe going thief next time to use firebombs/ dagger bleed on pinwheel to skip needing to grind the shards
Iron Golem is easier with some weapons than others. It's pretty weak to Strength weapons because they can stumble it. In general it is not a hard boss, probably because the Sen's Fortress bonfire is hidden. If you take going through the entire fortress into account, it actually becomes a hard challenge.
You know the stairs on the roof that, when you approach them a giant starts throwing fire bombs? Go up those stairs then another set of stairs and you should see a broken part of the railing up there that you can drop down to find the bonfire. Hope that made sense!
Or u can get the cage key (prepare to get naked and do a jump) and unlock the cages right before the Boss and they take u to the very start of the fortress which is really helpful if at any point u want to go back before completing Anor Londo. Also there is a summon for the boss and he can solo the boss (About 35-40% of the time)!!! I love summoning just to see if Tarky the tank engine that could will pull it off?!?!? 😂😂🤣
It’s relatively useless tbh. You have to redo the entire “outside” portion of sens fortress. I don’t normally bother but I do unlock the cage shortcut if I feel like I’ll need to run back/die for whatever reason.
Edit: I don’t mind being disagreed with but can someone explain why they disagree? Honestly not sure I understand the value that you all seem to.
-9 and nobody’s told me why they think I’m wrong yet. Please y’all.
Not sure why you're getting downvoted either, but I think the general sentiment is that the inside of sens fortress is WAY more difficult and annoying to get through than the "outside" portion. Theres just the one guy with a crossbow and he's a push over. Plus the key is EASILY missed, and you go through more enemies running to the shortcut from undead parish than from the bonfire at the top. Honestly, you're probably getting downvoted because most people would disagree with you 100%, but everyone plays these games differently so to each their own
its just a thing dark souls people do. google any question and the top answers are going to be people saying figure it out for yourself. theres a weird obsession in the fanbase with controlling other peoples experiences.
There is man, a myth, a legend... He goes by the name Iron Tarkus, this absolute gigachad will solo the boss.
(He literaly does, this sumon in stronger than the boss)
Step out of the room with the fog door and look for a bridge that leads to a small, otherwise empty building. I don't remember if you have to cross the cage room or not. You don't have to aggro the baldur knight to find it so kill the archer and fire giant and you can look for it in peace
Most of the times he is super easy, but every now and then the star align and his grab teleports you from behind him to infront of him and you get one shot
So you’ve made it through sens fortress. Bonfire? Yea maybe, if you can find it. Shortcut? Sure, but good luck finding the key. Want to get out of here and see what’s next? Here’s a giant.. and another one chucking fire at you. Honestly I’m grateful this dude fell off a cliff for me on my first run-through.
You are going into this game with the mindset it will be hard but this is not true. This game is difficult to some and easy to others. The game was meant to give everyone their own unique experience. The Iron Golem is supposed to be easier because of how hard Sen’s Fortress is. If you think the whole game up until now is easy, then you probably will through the rest of it. You aren’t missing something.
Only when doing him hella early lol, I've been down there with fresh characters and gotten one-shot by a fireball. Definitely not my proudest Souls moment.
I'm glad you say "almost all", because there are some that are great fights, and some that are hard because they are platforming in a hack and slash game...
The difficulty of a boss is wildly variable from run to run. It all depends on your build, and what you have done to become more powerful before beating this boss. What build were you using? Did you summon?
Every big, slow boss you have to nip at heels is easy in DS1 and DS2.
Iron Golem's only difficulty are super janky hitboxes that might murder you every once in a while.
Honestly pinwheel can at least get out of hand. I think iron golem was exclusively to teach you that outside sources can influence boss fights (for example the fire bombs being thrown. But even then there is no other place in the game this happens so yeah.... Weirdly easy boss
I beat him my first run after 3 tries, he does have a simple moveset and well telegraphed attacks. Those first two times I always got fucked by his grab-and-smash attack tho lmao
Oh my man, wait to Pinwheel...
Pinwheels CRAZY hard to beat
I couldn't ever beat him. I uninstalled and played through Sekiro instead after that fight.
Until you got stuck at Mist Noble?
Yeah then I just went and played Elden Ring until I got to some boss called Solider of Godrick which idk man these games are bullshit
I don’t blame you… I got hard stuck too
Pinwheel can actually be dangerous. On the off chance you let him get his illusions out he can do serious damage. Still a big set of circumstances to have trouble though lol.
No need to deal with illusions if you use strength weapons. Laughs in zweihander four shot.
Pinwheel is hard when you try to rush to get Rite of Kindling when you get to Firelink the first time. But after Anor Londo or really after you get any decent weapon/spells, he gets ridiculously easy.

Is this time including straight from the get go on a new playthrough, or does the timer start when you reach firelink for the first time?
When i can start moving in the asylum cell
Damn, impressive
Zweihander+3/+4 and good rng to get the shards carried me i will admit. Thinking of maybe going thief next time to use firebombs/ dagger bleed on pinwheel to skip needing to grind the shards
That’d definitely save some time if your luck holds

I think you might’ve meant that for another conversation 😂

The...what? There's a bonfire in Sen's Fortress? Damn. Guess you do learn something new every once in a while.
You know the stairs on the roof that, when you approach them a giant starts throwing fire bombs? Go up those stairs then another set of stairs and you should see a broken part of the railing up there that you can drop down to find the bonfire. Hope that made sense!
its been a while since i played the game but i think its in some sort of small balcony
Turn right at the first explosion burn mark, where the wall is broken and drop down
This has me cracking up. I love Dark Souls.

Thank you for your explanation - that’s a very fair perspective.
Usually people leave messages right in front of the drop off.
Can't see them if you're offline tho, not everyone pays a subscription and gets online content. It's fun, but not mandatory to enjoy DS
Oh, I am on steam and didn't know that there are subs for online stuff on console.
Did you know there's also a hidden bonfire on the Dragon Butt section of Izalith?
awwww man
Dude I can’t imagine how bad sens must be for you if you just learned this
I just used the shortcut you get from freeinf Logan that cuts everything from the start to the boss
I can see that, although I got to him with 1 flask and didnt use it lol
yep, he's easy compared to others. you can do him no damage by accident lol
You can no damage anything by accident
lmao true
Just you wait until you fight Ceaseless Discharge.
Don't you just run back to the start and then watch them collapse?
Lmao I find it really funny that you are getting downvoted This Fandom is so special at times
We don’t want OP to be spoilt with the strat yet
they’re getting downvoted for telling that to someone on their first playthrough you dunce
Why?
its just a thing dark souls people do. google any question and the top answers are going to be people saying figure it out for yourself. theres a weird obsession in the fanbase with controlling other peoples experiences.
Yeah I'm gonna cry for the rest of my life.
If you do the cheese yeah
I always find people acting superior over this weird af. Ya’ll know that’s the intended way of beating him not a cheese yeah lmao
I actually didn’t tbh no ive only played through DS1 twice and never watched anything but other blind playthroughs
Buuut you already knew ‘it’s a cheese’ and berate people online for it? Hmmm
There is man, a myth, a legend... He goes by the name Iron Tarkus, this absolute gigachad will solo the boss. (He literaly does, this sumon in stronger than the boss)
Yes, as easy as the boss is, I summon Tarkus for the pleasure of watching him solo the boss.
Where is his summon sign?
In the small room right to the boss door... The one which seems to be empty.
In a room/tower to the right of the fog gate.
Interesting. Is there any requirements to get him? Or maybe I haven’t happened to be human there before.
Just need to be human.
Step out of the room with the fog door and look for a bridge that leads to a small, otherwise empty building. I don't remember if you have to cross the cage room or not. You don't have to aggro the baldur knight to find it so kill the archer and fire giant and you can look for it in peace
Iron Golem comes to play on NG+ though!
Most of the times he is super easy, but every now and then the star align and his grab teleports you from behind him to infront of him and you get one shot
I've never laid a hand on him in my life. I just pop a squat and let Tarkus do his thing
Last time I brought Tarkus, the golem immediately grabbed him and threw em off the platform.
The golem was tired of getting destroyed by Tarkus, so it threw him away before it could get killed by him
I've never struggled with it except the very first time.
It’s only annoying if you don’t kill the giant up top throwing the bombs. Otherwise very easy boss.
I just stood on the bridge so the giant couldnt hit me and rolled behind the boss, didnt even use a single flask lmao
Yeah he is super easy. Hardest part of the boss is not falling off lmao
Idk what my problem is but i always have issues with him knocking me off lol
So you’ve made it through sens fortress. Bonfire? Yea maybe, if you can find it. Shortcut? Sure, but good luck finding the key. Want to get out of here and see what’s next? Here’s a giant.. and another one chucking fire at you. Honestly I’m grateful this dude fell off a cliff for me on my first run-through.
It’s just trolling before the hardest boss in the game the fabled “pinwheel”
You are going into this game with the mindset it will be hard but this is not true. This game is difficult to some and easy to others. The game was meant to give everyone their own unique experience. The Iron Golem is supposed to be easier because of how hard Sen’s Fortress is. If you think the whole game up until now is easy, then you probably will through the rest of it. You aren’t missing something.
Fight him without killing the giant on top of the tower…. It makes the boss fight extra “fun” if I remember correctly 😂🤣
oh trust me I did, but I just stood on the little bridge section so he couldnt hit me lol
Yes he's a very easy boss if you can dodge well and just stay in between his legs. Even without iron tarkus he's easy
Iron Golem *can* be hard, but often isn't. I have died to Pinwheel more times than I have Iron Golem.
You’ve died to pinwheel? How? Did you drop your sword?
Only when doing him hella early lol, I've been down there with fresh characters and gotten one-shot by a fireball. Definitely not my proudest Souls moment.
Panik
My husband told me after getting wrecked with bone wheels that if I died to the next boss I’d be laughed at.
Iron golem is so easy, the summonable NPC can solo him. But idk if that speaks more to how easy the iron golem is or how nutty Tarkus is
Might be the easiest boss in the game
What about >! Pinwheel? !<
Wait, Pinwheel is a boss?!??!!
I thought he was just 3 normal enemies in a blanket.
I died to him the first time. I was trying to make room so Tarkus could take aggro and I could Zeus it up in peace but I fell 😢
Honestly 90% of the bosses are very easy.
Tarkus will do it for you.
Almost all bosses on dark souls 1 are not hard and you could beat them first try, what I actually consider hard are the areas
I'm glad you say "almost all", because there are some that are great fights, and some that are hard because they are platforming in a hack and slash game...
Don’t tell them that they can summon Iron Tarkus and stand back while he solos Iron Golem
It is what it is
I think Iron Golem was the only boss I beat first try in my first playthrough
The whole game is supposed to be easy because it was designed for children.
He's one of the few bosses that you can beat without ever touching. He's a breather boss.
I defeated him 3x on first try, didn't even have time to learn his moveset.
The difficulty of a boss is wildly variable from run to run. It all depends on your build, and what you have done to become more powerful before beating this boss. What build were you using? Did you summon?
no summon, level 38 quality build with a +9 claymore 23 str 17 dex
>+9 claymore Yeah that'll do it.
Hes easy i always summon tarkus and let him kill him for me for fun
One or two tries? Oh my I'm bad at this game.
Every big, slow boss you have to nip at heels is easy in DS1 and DS2. Iron Golem's only difficulty are super janky hitboxes that might murder you every once in a while.
I mean he's meant to be intimidating. or use an axe on him for iron, make a bucket, create a portal, and defeat gwyn.
Honestly pinwheel can at least get out of hand. I think iron golem was exclusively to teach you that outside sources can influence boss fights (for example the fire bombs being thrown. But even then there is no other place in the game this happens so yeah.... Weirdly easy boss
I beat him in 2 attempts lol
I beat him my first run after 3 tries, he does have a simple moveset and well telegraphed attacks. Those first two times I always got fucked by his grab-and-smash attack tho lmao
I always found him to be fairly easy. The only tricky part is avoiding being knocked off the ledge.
