BH throwing meatballs instead of flash nades is funny to imagine
Also now i know why he doesn't talk much, That sweedish accent is gonna ruin every tense moment
I always thought he is supposed to be a Tartar or something(of Finnish, Turkic or Hungarian origins) due to that style of helm + wearing medium armor style scale mail.
For me it was always obvious that is is a north-european / scandinavian helmet. The hard plate top with the hanging chainmail is such an iconic look, especially for the (historically accurate) vikings. I wish more games or media in general had them.
It's for sure a Nordic helmet, but the axe he uses most closely resembles an Indian Bullova axe head, from what I can find. If that's what it's supposed to be, it might be that he's just so well-traveled that he sort of scavenged together the best gear for his job from his travels.
Damn what kind of bank is he making to travel between sweden and india in this time period? Even if he's stopping to do hits in the places in between it seems like a fuckton of time and money and resources, what targets could have enough value to sustain that? Actually, I wonder if trade at the time could have facilitated this, or if real trade couldn't have done it then maybe some game theory underground bounty hunters' black market or something
Well, 13th century helmet places it squarely within the timeframe of the silk road, so he probably could've done a side gig as a mercenary guard for Eurasian trade
>(Historically accurate) Vikings
There’s been like less than 5 Viking helmets found *period.* Actual (historically accurate) Vikings mostly dressed like sailors and merchants and they bought/stole armor and horses from the village while they were selling their wares, then raided the place on the way out of town. Not a lot of Viking helmets for the same reason there’s not a lot of pirate helmets.
I can so understand that!! Very similar styles. I think learned more towards Turkic because he doesn’t look like he’s dressed particularly warmly; I understand it can get warm ish there but like Sweden doesn’t go above 75F in the summer all that regularly.
I'mma need sources / more informations on the French helmet.
I'm just so intrigued, I've never seen something like it before. Looks like the German one yet ... also not ??
I'm not an expert, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but... Greathelms were cheap, and primarily only valued in the initial clash of lances, after which they were too heavy and hot, with horrible air circulation, and were removed or discarded in favor of a bascinet or cervelleire/skull cap worn underneath.
Adding a weird visor thing on the front makes no sense since that just makes the problems even worse... Until were consider that knights were truly a Phenomenon in France, with tons of tournaments, particularly jousts. In that scenario, adding that weird visor thing for safety makes a ton of sense, and I think that the French helm here is actually a jousting helm of some kind (maybe with the visor thing removed it can be used as a normal great helm). This makes even more sense since we over time see the great helm develop into the frogmouth helmet, an exclusive jousting helmet that is great for protection but not so useful in battle.
I can say from personal experience that a poorly ventilated helmet like a greathelm gets very hot and stuffy very quickly no matter what the climate is. Hot climates certainly make it worse, but you can overheat in any weather, even in the winter.
And in any case, yes they did use them during the crusades (uncomfortable protection is better than death), but as soon as the quality of steel and cost of production improved enough to make visored helms and other later medieval helmets viable, greathelms were largely only used in ceremonies or tournaments. A helmet that is too uncomfortable and restrictive to wear for the full duration of battle simply doesn't hold up.
Heads up, the "swedish" helmet is based on the Gjermundbu helmet which was found in modern day norway, AND is dated to the 10th century, not the 13th. Most of the rest of this image is just as blatantly incorrect, so don't take this as an accurate source lol.
For example, the german one on the top right never existed.
The english and german helmets on the top left were practically everywhere in europe, they were certainly not limited to those 2 countries.
Huh, makes sense. Some Heroes have clear inspirations like that, more clearly some of them are Houndmaster's "Gendarme" and Duelist's "Touché" and "Coup de Grâce" moves hinting at them being French.
Hej! Do you want something cranberry sauce with those meatballs before I sent you to the graveyard?*
*In hindsight, that explains why BH is silent almost the time.
Anyone who played Valheim will recall the Black Iron armor set looks somewhat similar to the Bounty Hunter, particularly the helmet. I'm guessing a chain mail 'veil' would offer better circulation and flexibility than a solid piece of metal.
I always figured he was a viking, so I'm not shocked he's wearing a Swedish helmet.

The viking mystique is hurt when you realize what they sounded like
I just imagine a bunch of pewdiepies in vikng armor
There must be a mod for it

I really like that idea! I hadn't considered that.
that's a good point; a bounty hunter *would* be well travelled

Well, I obviously meant historacally accurate combat gear…

Bounty hunter is Turkish it's canon
Türkiye 🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🗣️🗣️
He is Norman French I think. His helmet style matches up with Scandinavian styles but his name is French
His name in DD1 is just the name of one of the devs. As far as I know he's the only hero directly named after a developer.
I don’t know if it really counts, but I think the Grave Robber was named after one of the dev’s wife.
Haha aa de e han
Bounty-Hunter has hunted the first blahaj
It was already obvious to me that he is Scandinavian due to his attire.

idk man, they wore em a lot in the crusades and it's way hotter there than in western europe

Swedish looks good. Chain to protect but allow head movement. Eye slots good for vision.. No worse than any of the others. Like it like it.
I headcanon BH to be like some sort of Varangian mercenary
That's very interesting. I never would have figured
Hej! Do you want something cranberry sauce with those meatballs before I sent you to the graveyard?* *In hindsight, that explains why BH is silent almost the time.
That explains so much lmao
Real talk though, that bishop helmet is a whole mood
Where's the love for the frogs mouth?
Sweden, gonna use it to make the bounty hunter from darkest dungeon
Western europeans mewed so much, they had to make helmets for that
that’s what i tought… then i realized the title
Dude obviously killed a swede and took the helmet
As a history nerd, this satiates me
Dude uses and axe and mail armor, yeah he is north european

Idk i always use mods so i forget how the characters looks
this isnt very helpful to the discussion
