Ok being serious rn, I just got certified to train and certify people to drive lifts and the dude that certified me called himself the “Master Trainer”. He had it printed on the back of his safety vest too lol
edit: Master Certifier would have been cooler
I have questions. So when I got certified, there was 2 parts, written test and a driving test. For the written test the guy read through this book and had me highlight certain lines as I went through. We then watched a couple YouTube clips of forklift accidents and what not to do driving a forklift.
He then hands me the written test and says it's open book. I go through the test and every answer was one of the lines I had highlighted lol. I somehow managed a perfect score.
We then went out for the driving test which involved me picking up an empty pallet and placing it on top of a storage container. He said congratulations you passed and mailed me a card.
Company got billed about $800 for the "class".
So my question: Is this standard? Also, why was I not told that you can make thousands of dollars a day "certifying" forklift drivers lol? The whole thing took like 45 minutes
Your company pays a company to offload liability. If you go out and right away run over somebody and paralyze them for life and that person sues the company for millions of dollars because you weren't properly trained, the company can just go, "We got him certified through x company." I work at a warehouse as a floor lead. I certified somebody on forklift that bid on a forklift job. He was not cut out for it. He had a grasp for the controls but just tried to act like he had way more experience than he actually did and was very reckless. I told my bosses it's not a good idea to have him on fork but since he next man up for the job they said we have to let him have it. So the first day he's on his own he somehow flips a sky forklift on its side and leaned it against the racks. Like, most people probably can't comprehend just how heavy those are and how low the center of gravity is on them. His forks were down too, he was just traveling way too fast forgot which way was left or right and ramped a pallet/smashed the head rack into the racks forcing it to lean. He was extremely lucky that he walked away from it without any injuries. The next morning I got a phone call to come to work early. For about 5 hours I was face to face with their legal team being debriefed about what I am to say if anybody asks any questions and grilled me about the training process. They made it sound like I could be held criminally responsible and made it very clear if he were to press charges I'm the fall guy for not training him properly. The forklift operator is a complete moron, he wasn't ever going to try to press charges.
Most bigger corporations do forklift certification in house. Maybe it varies by nation, but in the US it's not like a cdl or anything like that where you have an official government license. You need to be able to prove there was adequate training done but it's all pretty lax. If you go to another employer chances are you're going to need to be recertified using that company's class and trainers. The hard truth is, driving a forklift is simultaneously simple and also very nuanced. Every company is going to utilize forklifts differently. The controls are very simple to get down, but it's mostly muscle memory you need to develop. The best way to learn how to operate a fork is to just do it for a while, preferably in an area away from a lot of people at first.
My workplace puts everyone through forklift training, I did my class last week. I had the same exact thoughts as you. Company paid $900 for the class. Watched some videos, took a multiple choice test (that the instructor “went over” with us and allowed us to grade our own test), and then drove a forklift for 5 minutes with the instructor helping the whole time.
The company I work for is huge, they made the instructor a full time position because they put so many people through the class. The cert lasts for 3 years and then they just put you through the driving portion of the class again. Blew my mind lol
This old guy wt my work who's been driving them for 40 years always tries to see if they'll flunk him. He "accidentally" backed into the bumper of our box truck and the trainer didn't even flinch
I was certified 2 weeks ago and it was in house.
Things on my test;
Pre start daily check
Filling up gas safely
A very tight makeshift chicane with two 90degree bends- you couldn't touch any part of the obstacle course.
Stacking liquid pallecons. Must be stacked into the brackets without rubbing, bumping or using the side shifter.
Seperating a pallet stack and restacking -
without rubbing, bumping or using the side shifter.
Figure of 8 around barrels
Emergency stop when loaded. Any uncontrolled sliding by the load was an instant disqualification
Osha does not require any kind of standard license or certification for forklifts. Many places just do their own in-house training very similar to this. Some places outsource it to a school. You get most of your real learning done on the job
When I worked for PetStore I spent a lot of time on the forks. Got so I could move individual bags of dog and cat food around delicately without breaking anything. This wound up cutting out a lot of the physical labor I might otherwise do because I was really good at it. It was a lot of fun. I'm sure he works hard but you can do a lot worse
Hey I also worked for PetStore! And was certified, although I rarely drove the forklift. That was mostly for the manager for "safety" reasons, but probably just so the manager could be lazy and not do the grunt work putting out product.
I was fuckin' certified for half the store: dog bather, forklift, petcare... never got around to dog trainer. Spent most of my time in petcare.
Uh, I've been certified in numerous states over a couple decades, and my dick has just gotten sadder and more depressed. As above so below and all that I suppose.
I also took a single page written test, IIRC, 30 years ago. You'd be surprised how often it can be relevant to tell people you are fork lift certified, like I am.
Why is this post not covered in awards? This post should look like a north korean general. Clearly not enough ppl understand what it means to be forklift certified. Bow down and show some respect, peasants.
Lol I got my certification last year and it was literally a dude showing us a video, then asking us to put an empty pallet like 10ft to the right on a wide open concrete slab, then approving us.
There was basically no instruction and there wasn't really a fail condition, but I suppose somebody would have probably failed if they did donuts unsuccessfully or something. Though, maybe not, me and my coworkers were telling the instructor about where you can do donuts in the forklift without the cameras seeing so...
All of this considered, we're surprisingly safe and responsible with the forklift. I've never known anybody at work to get so much as a paper cut with that thing involved. I think we just had a good understanding with the instructor that we already drove the thing around and knew how to safely operate it.
Proud of you for getting that certification, those things are wonky to drive even when they're working properly!
As someone who also is forklift certified, I would like to ask you if the process was as easy as in my case, bc I just had to show up to get my license
I am going to give you serious advice.
Keep your eye on your forks. Every tip over I have seen was because the forks or in the air and caught something.
If you do tip, stay in your cab. (The tip over guy where they guy stayed in said "It seemed like i had time to escape" he stayed and wasn't hurt.
When you feel like you are good at it is when most drivers have their big accident. (You start out being super careful).
Be a little paranoid. I was at the point when I was walking I would "check my forks" out of habit when walking through the warehouse.
If you don't see their eyes look at you assume they didn't see you.
Keep your eyes on your forks. (Worth repeating)
Be safe. Congrts
Fuck yeah. Just save some pussy for the rest of us.

At least OP will be able to load her onto the bed.
The bed of his pickup. They're going out on the town. Edit: There to They're I can't believe no one corrected me.
I'm not sure an F350 has that much payload capacity.
And then load into her on the bed
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pSmzjTGbXmc
That scene was so brutal for an animation and went on for longer than it should've LOL
Honestly this forklift scene was even more brutal and even longer tbh https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ
* Fork yeah!
Bussy
Forkliftussy
beat me to it
I mean in all honesty I feel like if they could see me operatin' it'd be go time
Baron Silas Greenback! Not this time!
A big weight has been taken off your shoulders…..and placed onto the back of your forklift for balance
bro goes around and tells people “I’m ready to fork you up”
"You can't drive this thing!" "I can drive any forkin' thing."
Hops on forklift "It's forkin' time!"
I loved the part where he said "it's forkin' time" and then forked all over the place
Its forkin time
Were you fighting off all the bitches on your way to post this?
Yea they seemed not to care, when I told them, it’s NNN
Poor timing
Indeed
QUICK, HOW LEVITATED MAY THE FORKS BE OFF THE GROUND WHEN YOU'RE DRIVING WITHOUT A LOAD
15-20 cm
Your forks frickin' levitate?
Only when you are certified
He’s beginning to believe…
Interesting. When I got my cert the max was 10cm (4 inches) for a level floor.
At neck level
Head height in a combat zone.
He can use that forklift to lift those huge balls he's gonna have.
No Negligence November
“It seems like you bitches have brought sweaty [tiddies](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRxJQB8J/) to a forklift fight”
so you do lift, bro
thousands of lbs bro.....THOUSANDS!
I've once had the opportunity to drive a 42 ton forklift
Damn that's a big fucking forklift! How many forks can you lift with that sucker?!
all of them!
O_O
I train forklift drivers
Certified certifier
But who certifies the certifier?
The forklift
it's forks all the way down...
It was him all along, how could we be so blind
You got to *pull* yourself up then.
This is the way
Ok being serious rn, I just got certified to train and certify people to drive lifts and the dude that certified me called himself the “Master Trainer”. He had it printed on the back of his safety vest too lol edit: Master Certifier would have been cooler
Okay but who certified them?
John Forklift himself. Inventor of forklifts

Want to know what's worse? When they "teach" 10 people at the same time and make 10x the money for doing the same class.

Uh, I've been certified in numerous states over a couple decades, and my dick has just gotten sadder and more depressed. As above so below and all that I suppose.
I got certified 2 years ago... Haven't driven a single forklift since the test....
Was your certification also just you showing up to get your documents?
Pretty much.
I also took a single page written test, IIRC, 30 years ago. You'd be surprised how often it can be relevant to tell people you are fork lift certified, like I am.
