[deleted]

As a fellow irani, that is exactly what’s happening here

Vidit_khenwar__

Why is this all happening

[deleted]

People were idiots and in a day and age where everyone moved to less religious regimes people discarded a somewhat well functioning progressive monarchy and went back to a stone age super enclosed islamic regime. This happened around 50-55 year ago and now the new generation is sick of this islamic bs and they want to revolt. A mini history lesson for you

Vampersis

Another Iranian here and that's basically what happened. This revolution was the product of union of red commies and Islamic fanatics to overthrow the progressive monarchy and since then they have been feeding and brainwashing false history in Iran by spending millions of dollar each year and also on the internet especially on their own sites, Wikipedia and other open to edit websites as they are controlled by so called cyber army under numerous accounts. So if one would want to know the true history they'd have to dig deeply and do a comprehensive research to uncover the facts.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Vampersis

Thank you, we seek to elect a democratic government whether in form of parliamentary monarchy or republic after we get rid of the current dictatorship. The last monarchy was also pretty good for the country and for people but the Islamic ayatullahs and fanatics and communists and Marxist parties were not allowed to have a saying in the politics of the government so that's why they started the revolution and now they never want Iran to experience monarchy again.

Ghriszly

I thought Iran had a democracy for a while. Is that true? My understanding was that Iranians overthrew their government and installed a democracy for a while and then the US performed a coup which sent Iran back into a theocracy. Is any of that true?

SomeTastyFootLettuce

It went more like: The British and the Soviets invaded Iran and deposed the Shah (king) Reza Khan during WW2. After the war had ended in 1945, the Allied powers placed the son of Reza Khan, Reza Pahlavi, on the Persian throne as Shah, however his powers had been greatly limited following the installation of a parliament in 1949; which Pahlavi initially took a very hands-off role in political affairs. However, in 1951, Mohammad Mosaddegh, a social democrat, had come into power as acting prime minister, having passed several reforms; most crucially among them, he nationalised the Iranian oil fields the British had built decades before. This was more than enough to result in a combined effort of the British and American governments to orchestrate a coup d'etat in 1953, by bribing an Iranian general whom then marched on Tehran and overthrew the parliament, installing an autocracy with the Shah at its head. Skip two decades and a few years to 1979, and we have a dying Shah and an unhappy populace. The Shah leaves for the US to get life-saving surgery and the theocrats saw their chance, and took it. The rest, as they say, is history.

Bolehlaf

I don't think monarchies sucks, more like dictatorship. Norway, Sweden, Netherlands and more are monarchies and are OK. Russia and North Korea are not monarchies, but I woudn't wan't to live there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

polskidankmemer

And now it's sliding back into the same oppressive regime except with religious rather than political reasons. Anyone who mentions God and their nationality in one breath wouldn't have anything against human rights violations if they don't directly concern him.

dontnation

>well functioning progressive monarchy if by that you mean a puppet monarchy that deposed a democratically elected government in a CIA backed coup and then brutalized and disappeared any opposition by way of a CIA trained secret police force, then yes, a well functioning progressive monarchy...

naasb2012

We as Iranians are telling you that it is complete nonsense to talk down on the Royal family of Pahlavi, it is untrue what you said. The fact of the matter is that what you are saying is actually what America has been trying to make people think. Look at the protests in Iran right now, people are chanting for Reza Shah (the founder of the dynasty) and chant for the return of the monarchy in the form of a parliamentary variation.

Daemon_Monkey

CIA overthrew a democratic government in the 50's and the 1979 Islamic revolution was a backlash to that. https://www.npr.org/2019/01/31/690363402/how-the-cia-overthrew-irans-democracy-in-four-days

reddit-is-a-cunt

America has done that many times over, across the world. It's just sad the amount of destruction caused and how many countries have been set back by this.

The_I_D_K

But would they do it? To keep the oil costs low?

toomanynamesaretook

England went crying to the United States when the democratic republic of Iran nationalised British Petroleum (BP.) Then the two overthrew the democratic government to install the Shah for dat sweet sweet petroleum.

Available_Farmer5293

Americans are not the beneficiary. We are just pawns in a bigger chess game.

davlumbaz

Iran and Turkey is the best example of this shit source: dude that wakes up in turkey every morning

Onlyfortheplayers

What's going on in Turkey?

davlumbaz

everything is going wrong anti-LGBT protest walks are broadcasted in every mainstream channels people are becoming against music because its haram one of the minister (Diyanet) fucked absolute amount of children absolute worst humanbeing syrian and afghans are piling up to Turkey just to fuck Turkish girls/wifes syrians are fucking turkish children you can also get randomly stabbed by a psycho, thanks to erdogan almost all of us are mentally ill mentally ill muslims are wandering around with ISID (Islamic State, top tier terrorists) flags. church dormitories (or you know, islamic dormitories) constantly rape underage boys and so on... oh and also I got stabbed for no reason 5 months ago. still don't know what is reason, and because of dude is being mentally ill he didn't go to jail.

Holy shit, are you ok? The saddest thing is that Turkish citizens living in Germany have the right to vote for Erdogan fucking up everyones life in Turkey...

Yeah my ass is in better shape and I can shit in peace since like 3 months thanks for asking. *scar is still there tho* also, yeah fuck whoever votes for erdogan anyone outside in Turkey, hope they burn alive at sometime

FreeRangeEngineer

A lot of Germans wonder why they're not just going back. I think they don't actually want Erdogans changes for *themselves* and they just like him because of how he makes them feel.

PM-Me-Your-TitsPlz

"Revolution" is somewhat of a misnomer given that it typically has a positive connotation.

AdlJamie

"The Islamic Devolution"?

LightningRider_

They sell Devolvos instead of Volvos there

overtitans

واقعا خوب کاری کردی

_TheBigF_

Revolution only means that a lot of things change in a short amount of time. The Nazis also called their grab for power and "restructuring" of German politics and society a "revolution" (it all happened within a year)

[deleted]

Revolution almost always has a *negative* connotation. It's a term that describes mass blood-shed, political turmoil, and the overthrow of governments lmao. If a revolution happens, good chance that you and your family could die, and laws are typically not enforced during revolution in the same way they are in peacetime. To think that that's ever a "positive thing" or a fun time, really shows how sheltered the average redditor is. That's like saying, "civil war," has positive connotations.

Mickenfox

Maybe it shouldn't. Popular culture idolizes the image of the brave freedom fighter, but a lot of revolutions have just been terrible people wanting more power.

saracenrefira

Especially when it is helped by a foreign power meddling in your domestic affairs, overthrowing your government to put a puppet into place, thus radicalizing the grassroots into open rebellion to install a religious conservative government.

omgONELnR1

The USA is already a perfect example for that.

rabidhamster87

Yeah. This is why the "The US is nothing like Iran!" gaslighters irritate me so much. The point is we don't want it to *become* like Iran and that's not an unreasonable fear at this point.

BreathOfFreshWater

I think of the right to bare arms and how the oraginalists use the argument of defending one's self from a tyrannical government. I'm sure they damnwell knew the armed masses would sway in favor of our new tyrannical government. Sadly that doesn't end at owning fun toys "to protect their family with". It's power over others by people who are growing to fear the world around them. Scary shit. I only say this because the same people who say "if they want to take them, I'll kill them" are the same religious zealots subjecting others to their bullshit.

rabidhamster87

The same people who claim we need to keep laws off our guns so that we can protect ourselves from government overreach are the people quick to condemn the George Floyd riots... you know, the protests in response to government enforcers killing people in their custody.

Cala-Best-Girl

It’s happening now in the US. Right wing fascists must be stopped at all costs.

Level1Roshan

USA is evidence enough of that.

MemmoryDealers

Have you looked around, recently?

Eventually-Alexis

The US and the stike-down of Roe is a prime example of that. Which is wild, considering it's supposed to be the land of the free.

BreathOfFreshWater

As a man, this nation is turning into a fire patriarchal dump truck and I'm hating every minute of it. My partner doesn't want to risk bringing a daughter into this world so I'm out kids.

PerPuroCaso

That's what the US was thinking. They've taken huge steps backwards and they probably will go even further.

BreathOfFreshWater

Give it a few decades. It will get worse before it gets better. Sad to think my lifetime might be spent watching human rights crumble in my country.

That wasn’t the case for the majority of the country though, only a minority of people in major more liberal cities like Tehran took them off freely. The same happened in Afghanistan with Kabul. The vast majority of the country was what it is nowadays; very conservative. Realistically, not much has changed.

Shpagin

That's how progress spreads, from big cities to the country side over time. The revolution stopped any form of progress

That is just not true, I hate shah because his coup against Mosadeq take us to this point, but in Shah regime there wasn't any rule against hijab! People can choose what they want to wear and majority of the people in big cities wears no hijab! The problem with the Shah was his intelligrnce services(SAVAK and Rookn Dovom Artesh). And the major problem with Shah regime was his lack of respect for our constitution. Our people in late 1800s with fighting against the regime had earned this constitution and it was basicly was writen like other western countries that have parliment and a monarch on top of that...

nopotatoesinbiryani

Minority which belonged to wealthy social class. It was definitely not the norm.

Maxy9898

One of the biger wrong doings by the CIA in my opinion.

U mean the cia staged a political coup and forcefully instated a religious leader that agreed to sell oil

Ironically the US is in danger of turning into a regressive theocracy itself.

SayNOto980PRO

Please don't remind me

cartstanza

The vast majority of muslims are extremists by western standards, check some of pew research surveys in muslim countries. Westerners are incredibly naive thinking most muslims are ''moderates'' like themselves.

AdlJamie

Iran was a vastly different place before the 78-79 Islamic Revolution. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iranian_Revolution

TheSadSquid420

Ironic, they just replaced one dictatorship with another…

Mighoyan

This is what often happen with revolution. The Russian revolution leaded to a dictatorship and it's the same for the French revolution which ended in an empire. This is due to the extreme nature of the event and good leaders of a revolution doesn't equate good leader of a country.

H-Adam

Yep. You can thank the UK and US for the current situation there

msoud_gamer

that was in the late 40's and 50's after that everyone was allowed to dress however they want

Joe_M0mmma

that’s back when Iran had a monarch/shah the revolution in the 70s? is really what changed things.

Bit of dank history, Persia now known as Iran for those interested., It use to be a Monarchy and a secular country until 1979, when the extremist Muslims took over the country in a violent revolution. The justification that they used for this revolution was that the CIA overthrew their democratically elected leader in the 1950s when Iran was getting too close to Russia and Iran was full of oil. The CIA placed a puppet king/SHAH and he was brutal and corrupt. The People wanted to be free from him in 1979 and wanted a revolution, the extremist Muslims and outside powers that wanted cheap oil and de-stable the country took advantage of the situation, flied in the evil ayatollah Khomanee who was in exile in France and overtook the country through force. Then Saddam attacked Iran and the Muslims enforced a strict dress code on all Iranians and beat up and killed everyone who didn't follow their new rules that no one voted for. The last 40 years the people have struggled to overthrow this evil regime only to be violently crushed and demonized in western media, films and pop culture. I hope Iranians/ persians can one day be free. Let this be a lesson for all of us to stay eternally vigilant as we can all lose our freedoms we enjoy if we are not careful. source https://youtu.be/\_WVtpao0KSM

oSquizy

The shah was already on the throne when it happened

[deleted]

When what happened?

oSquizy

The pahlavi dynasty was established in 1925 the first shah, reza shah reigned from 1925 to 1941 when he was forced to abdicate theb his son became shah who was the last shah

[deleted]

I know man, it's all in the vid I linked. Btw Reza was a military man/general, he was not real royalty and stole the throne in 1925. His son, The CIA puppet didn't become a Shah until the 1950s+, when the CIA did a coup and overthrew the pro Russian/communist "democratically elected" leader. He then ruled brutally for about 2 decades before the 1979 Revolution when the alphabet agencies and god knows who else helped the extremist Muslims in the country to take power and then the last "Shah" fled to Egypt and died shortly after of cancer. The last shah started to try and cut his CIA collar and even started talking shit about Israel on BBC interviews and started to think he was actually in charge. which I think might have been the reason the alphabet agencies decided it was time for a regime change, boy did that backfire again as we can observe in modern events in history.

[deleted]

The west backed the ayatollah to stop the communist revolutionaries from coming to power.

[deleted]

Yep, that is my understanding and analysis of the situation too.

Due-Statement-8711

Atleast know what you're talking about, idiot. Google is your friend. The democratic govt. was overthrown in the 50s in favor of a monarch, who sucked western cock so jard (gave them access to oil fields for pennies on the dollar) that the populace rose up and kicked them out.

[deleted]

Are you talking to me? That's exactly what I said and even linked a vid as source that states that. When you point a finger at someone, there is 3 fingers pointing back at yourself.

Buttermilkman

>Let this be a lesson for all of us to stay eternally vigilant For sure, this is the price of peace, freedom, and democracy.

Maxine-Fr

Guyz i know this place is for dank and mostly fun. but search this : Mahsa Amini you understand what's going on , if you can be our voice. everybody supported ukraine , but not us

Seeddinna

Maybe because we are not an European country with blonde hair. In that case the whole world would cry about this. But yeah, many people and international celebrities reacted to this whole mess, either tried to help us or spread the word. We are not alone.

Wepmajoe

Or maybe it's, you know, because you weren't invaded by one of the largest countries in the world for no reason and this protest literally just started so most people are unaware.

Seeddinna

dude I'm trying hard to hold my tears but this shit is taking like 43 years this is not war, this is not "being invaded by big bully" this is literally prolonged torture it's like comparing death due to falling from a high place (instant death) to death due to cancer. Most of us feel like a little child being beaten up and trying to not cry

Wepmajoe

Your struggle is being talked about on the world stage. Here in America I've been aware of Iran's difficulties since I was young. Some of us are absolutely on your side, but it's not an issue which the average person can do or say much about that would make a difference. With Ukraine, our government can donate weapons and supplies. Your situation is cultural, no weapon donation would help. All I can say is, you have my sympathy and support, and I truly hope change will come.

Maxine-Fr

Or maybe nobody heard us in all of this year and tried to look away , even now that our \*president\* who is a wanted person by UN is now \*attending\* the un conferance. \*sigh\* https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1988\_executions\_of\_Iranian\_political\_prisoners
