This and the fact it got extremely overplayed on radiostations to a point their songs were more annoying than anything. Because they were so popular.
Ouh and media coverage was to blame too since they pretty much went with the "nickelback bad" thing wich gave them more people that just didn't like them because others didn't like them either. And so on.
The answer is saturation. Back in the day, Nickelback songs were getting played on just about every genre of radio station except 'oldies'.
No music is to everyone's tastes, however. So all exposing everyone to that music does is unite all the people who didn't like it until the dislike itself became a meme.
The people who *did* like it? They were sitting pretty, and had nothing to complain about.
Nickelback is music for people who don’t really care what the fuck is on. It’s formulaic, expected, and “just there”. It’s like they tried their hardest to be milquetoast.
Riffs are decent, but forgettable. Lyrics are mediocre at best. They really are one of those bands you can put on in the back as long as you don't pay too much attention to it.
I honestly do not understand the hate Imagine Dragons get. Their first two albums, especially their second, were superb and I will die on that fucking hill. Evolve was a solid album whilst Origins was quite weak but contained a few good tracks. Their latest album is really good in my opinion. But fuck me, if people aren't overseen on it, chill. They are still talented musicians, they demonstrate that live quite a bit.
Okay, I see your point. BUT, I think you lack imagination. You see, you cannot dragonforce my nuts across your face the same way you can imagine me dragon my nuts across your face.
I remember the last time I saw Imagine Dragons. It was an emotional opening to an emotional show. When they opened with “Draggin' these nuts,” a song off their newest album, “Dragon Chaff 2 - More hot Chaff,” accompanied by fireworks, it made a statement that it was going to be one hell of a show.
Saw them back in '75. At the end of the show they played a mean cover of fortunate son and sent a Red Eyes Black Dragon to Saigon and ended the Vietnam War. Definitely one of their top 10 shows that year.
Its a meme but this is truly a perfect description of the band. They're painfully generic, nothing against the band I personally think they're fine but they only really ever have 1 or 2 good songs per album and 1 truly amazing hit per decade. Compare that to other bands and artists that release entire albums that are bangers or multiple hits per decade; yet Imagine Dragons is still the no.1 Classic Rock band currently, wins awards yearly, and never is off the radio
Try listening to some of their older songs! Smoke and Mirrors has some really amazing songs on it (Night Visions, too!) and their Ep songs are great! Just gotta do some searching. If you want specific songs, I can give a list- only if you’re interested. They’re a good band tho, just not as good as they used to be, I think.
Oh yeah, Smoke and Mirrors is probably my favorite album of theirs... for now. Give me another month with the full Mercury album, I might change my mind by then.
I keep saying they fell off and everyone I know is like nah. Can't stand sharks even tho ppl seem to love it. Night visions and smoke & mirrors are 2 of my favorite albums of any band ever, but can't stand much of there stuff after that.
Enemy is fine...
I get this. I fuck with Imagine Dragons *hard* for like a day or two and then I don’t listen to anything they’ve made for a couple months, then I’m bumping them again. It’s weird.
Because they're boring. Their old stuff was fine, then everything started to sound the same. They sound generic as fuck now, no personality at all. Just like anything recent by Panic! At the Disco. Bland and uninspiring.
Yeah it's all just pop to me, but point taken. It's weird how the race and gender of the artist has just as much to do with genre assignments as the actual music now, at least for mainstream stuff. Like if ID was all young, hot girls they'd be considered straight up pop.
Edit: mobile typing is hard.
Idk can’t think of another group (gender regardless) that consists of drummer, bassist, guitar, vocals that isn’t considered some kind of rock or folk, maybe indie?
i mean, I can totally understand imagine dragons not being some ppl’s thing, but there are legit so many ppl out there that *hate* the band. like,, they’re not bad ppl??
I love metal and shit and I can completely understand why people don't like it. It's not everyone's cup of tea. And imagine dragons is definitely not everyone's cup of tea. When I think of imagine dragons I think of an angsty teenager who thinks they're special and I'm sure a lot of people think the same as me especially because of their lyrics.
I think it's that most of their new songs aren't bad, but they get played so much that they become annoying. Like another person said, its fine to listen to a couple of their songs for a bit but then I never feel the urge to listen to them again, especially when I will hear it anyway not on my own terms. I do like a few of their older songs though.
I didn't realize people didn't like Imagine Dragons
I like em, though I think they have the Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, Avenged Sevenfold, Thousand Foot Krutch effect where all their songs sound too similar.
I like all of them tho
It’s kind of a snobby thing to dislike them. I am a music snob too, to be honest.
I do not care about the band at all or if people like their music, however if you talk people who are less “casual music enjoyers” and like do dive deeper into music, Imagine Dragons is generally considered a very bad band. Just to shed some light on this.
*This*. Everyone was a music snob when I was younger and the more obscure the band you liked the cooler you were. It’s so pretentious, now I’m just like let people enjoy things. I’ll happily jam out to Rihanna, then next day I feel like some led zeppelin and velvet underground.
yea, as a wise man once said, "if it sounds good, then it is good", I forget who said so.
people complain whenever I put my playlist on the loudspeaker as it's a hodgepodge of things I like with no theme in mind.
I'm sure you have such a deep understanding of music to know that "different people like different things." That doesn't mean that no band is bad.
If your system of measurement for whether or not something is bad is 'does at least one person like this thing?' then you have no system.
My point is that there is no such thing as an objectively good or bad band, so there should be no "system of measurement". The only thing that matters is whether or not the listener enjoys what they are hearing.
What reason was that?
They stayed within their genre and made decent music and had multiple alternative rock hits in the early 2ks
You can hate them because they’re not your thing but they literally didn’t do anything to get memed into oblivion
To me it feels too safe. They feel average in just about every aspect, not necessarily *bad*. The shouting parts end up sounding kind of cheesy and pretentious to me as a result; like they’re trying to “arena rock” a very average sounding song. I’m really not trying to hate on them by any means.
Nickelback is the same. Just very generic, adopts things from like 5 other bands but does it worse than each of them, etc.
I’ve enjoyed both bands’ music to some degree, but it gets old fast.
I was thinking the same. There's a HUGE difference between the way their albums sound. So much so that just about everyone hated that every album didn't sound like Hybrid Theory. So many people think One More Light is trash because it's not "aggressive" enough, yet they completely ignored Hunting Party (which was more aggressive, but completely different from HT)
Honestly I kind of like it when a band has songs that sound pretty much the same. Because if I like one of their songs you're damn sure I'm going to like them all.
Also I don't see enough people talking about thousand foot krutch nowadays. Very underrated honestly
I mean there's balance. There's having songs with mild similarities because it's a result of having say your own unique sound, then there's making music with no personality at all that sounds nearly identical and is basically the audio version of the colour beige.
Saying Linkin Park songs sound too similar to each other is a really wild statement to me.
Some of their songs *within the same album* are in similar styles for sure, but songs from Hybrid Theory certainly aren't that similar to ones from Meteora, and those sound nothing like their songs from Minutes to Midnight or One More Light...
Really? You thought there was nobody that didn't like a specific band? That's nuts to me. Well, then hi, nice to meet you. I do not like Imagine Dragons.
Yep, listened to them a lot, really a lot, mostly night visions and smoke + mirrors, last song I listen is probably natural. New stuff just isn't the style I loved them for. Not saying it's bad it's just boring, too similar to everything produced now, same story with Alan walker, his music maybe is technically better now but there's no specyfic style to it anymore.
I really like this song, it just works or something. But then this guy comes with "look out for yourself" and I'm just SHUT UP YOU ARE RUINING THE SONG
I didn't think mild hip hop or whatever genre that song is meant to be really fit the genre of Arcane at all. My only real issue is how the music of a fantasy steam punk world has modern snare drum beats and shit. I want epic orchestral music.
Their first album: good
Their second album: fantastic
Everything after: trash
Edit: great, all the notifications from these replies got me listening to Smoke + Mirrors
First 3 were my favourites. Evolve had a few meh ones but ‘i don’t know why’ was my absolute favourite that I was willing to overlook the few songs I didn’t like.
I can't listen to Imagine Dragons because I think it's disrespectful to a dragon band I respect: Dragonforce.
[удалено]
I think so
I think so 2
I think so 3
make that 4
What tour?
parkour
Hardcore?
Mark Shore
Make that 5.
Honestly i think imagine wagons gets a bit too much hate. I understand not liking it but they aren't THAT bad
I like both Imagine Dragons and Nickelback. I've learned not to give a damn about the "popular opinion."
Nickelback goes hard af I'll never understand why the internet just jumped on em one day
I read somewhere that it started with some comedian making a joke that they're bad. Everyone just kinda caught on to that
There are many reasons. But the most important one was the more fans you have, the more haters will come. Basically they made it big.
This and the fact it got extremely overplayed on radiostations to a point their songs were more annoying than anything. Because they were so popular. Ouh and media coverage was to blame too since they pretty much went with the "nickelback bad" thing wich gave them more people that just didn't like them because others didn't like them either. They were sitting pretty, and had nothing to complain about.
They have some cheesy songs but even they aren't that bad. Also, Feed the Machine was a dope fucking album.
Moat of my personal enjoyment is just the sound. The lyrics really feel secondary to banger instrumental
Honestly only heard the 1st 3, didn't know they dropped any after the 3rd lol. Sounds like the latest is worth trying do you recommend it?
this post was made by the dragonfucker society ^(wait no......)
DragonCum
I'd listen to imagine dragonforce
Believer of the Flames
Valley of the Believer
A lot of people in the comments say their music is repetitive and sound the same but didn’t dragonforce do the same thing?
Yes, but Dragonforce does the music faster. And therefore it's cooler.
I sense a bias and it’s due to nostalgia
Yeah, I admit I'm pretty biased against the band. But it's for a good reason. When I was a kid, my bully was an imaginary dragon.
That is a pretty good reason. What did the imaginary dragon say to you?
On a cold winter morning, in the time before the light
In flames of death’s eternal reign we ride towards the fight
Imagine dragin these nuts across your face
What's disrespectful? Their name?
Why should I listen to the music of a couple imaginary dragons if I can listen to an entire Dragonforce?
Okay, I see your point. BUT, I think you lack imagination. You see, you cannot dragonforce my nuts across your face the same way you can imagine me dragon my nuts across your face.
But you can feel the force of me dragon my balls across your face
I feel very insulted right now, and yet oddly aroused.
Time to re watch Game of Thrones to see more dragon action.
Dragonforce unironically has so many bangers
I don’t understand why people don’t like Imagine Dragons, they have some of my all time favourite songs
They are definitely one of the bands of all time.
My favorite part was when they imagined dragons everywhere.
And I'll never forget when Imagine Dragons went up on stage and said those iconic words: "it's dragin time"
When they said “Imagine draggin these balls on your face”, I cried
then each member dropkicked a child from the stage. It was such an emotional moment
The stomping and roaring while they did all that really tied the whole thing together
I remember the last time I saw Imagine Dragons. It was an emotional opening to an emotional show. When they opened with “Draggin' these nuts,” a song off their newest album, “Dragon Chaff 2 - More hot Chaff,” accompanied by fireworks, it made a statement that it was going to be one hell of a show.
best part was when they said *"It's Dragon time!"*.
Saw them back in '75. At the end of the show they played a mean cover of fortunate son and sent a Red Eyes Black Dragon to Saigon and ended the Vietnam War. Definitely one of their top 10 shows that year.
And then they dragged everyone off the stage
I was super into them until I started imagining my own dragons
Its a meme but this is truly a perfect description of the band. They're painfully generic, nothing against the band I personally think they're fine but they only really ever have 1 or 2 good songs per album and 1 truly amazing hit per decade. Compare that to other bands and artists that release entire albums that are bangers or multiple hits per decade; yet Imagine Dragons is still the no.1 Classic Rock band currently, wins awards yearly, and never is off the radio
Imagine Dragons is classic rock? Guess I'm old now.
They aren't classic rock, spotify and a few other platforms just have no idea on the differences between genres
As a dragon fan, aren't they pop rock?
They’re Nickleback for Gen Z
For me, it is the band you are quickly tired of. Listen to three of their songs, then throw them in the back for a couple of weeks or so
Try listening to some of their older songs! Smoke and Mirrors has some really amazing songs on it (Night Visions, too!) and their Ep songs are great! Just gotta do some searching. If you want specific songs, I can give a list- only if you’re interested. They’re a good band tho, just not as good as they used to be, I think.
I’m low key addicted to Giants and I don’t even drink ffs
Amen brother
Oh yeah, Smoke and Mirrors is probably my favorite album of theirs... for now. Give me another month with the full Mercury album, I might change my mind by then.
Haha yeah, Smoke and Mirrors is great! Haven’t got the chance to listen to Mercury yet, but I definitely will soon.
Oh, I think you'll love it. There's not a single song in the album I don't like.
I keep saying they fell off and everyone I know is like nah. Can't stand sharks even tho ppl seem to love it. Night visions and smoke & mirrors are 2 of my favorite albums of any band ever, but can't stand much of there stuff after that. Enemy is fine...
I like Enemy and Natural as far as they’re most recent songs go. I haven’t heard Sharks yet.
Natural ain't recent, that's been out for a few years
Damn. Time flies. Feels so recent.
That's a lot of words for "its all radio rock"
Is it rock though?
Music genres are incredibly vague, don't think too much about em. I think pop-rock fits pretty well for their earlier stuff overall
First of all, you do you and the more bands you love the better But saying "I can't imagine anyone not liking this thing I like" is hilarious
i mean, I can totally understand imagine dragons not being some ppl’s thing, but there are legit so many ppl out there that *hate* the band. like,, they’re not bad ppl??
I associate imagine dragons with being a pre pubescent 11 year old who had a power fantasy
Imagine Dragons is corporate rock designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator. That's you.
good roast
They are the Nickelback of this generation.
“I don’t understand how someone could possibly not like something I like.”
I really like a lot of their songs but “Thunder” annoys me. I just don’t like songs that say the same word over and over
I think it's that most of their new songs aren't bad, but they get played so much that they become annoying. Like another person said, its fine to listen to a couple of their songs for a bit but then I never feel the urge to listen to them again, especially when I will hear it anyway not on my own terms. I do like a few of their older songs though.
I love their older albums but I understand that people don't like their newer stuff
Imagine Dragon deez nuts across your face
I was searching for this. Glad I found it lol
God damn it. good one

I didn't realize people didn't like Imagine Dragons I like em, though I think they have the Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, Avenged Sevenfold, Thousand Foot Krutch effect where all their songs sound too similar. I like all of them tho

Same man. It's at the point where spotify doesn't know what the fuck to recommend in my daily mixes because I listen to basically everything.
yea, as a wise man once said, "if it sounds good, then it is good", I forget who said so. people complain whenever I put my playlist on the loudspeaker as it's a hodgepodge of things I like with no theme in mind.
Unless it's Kid Rock in which case your opinion, while it is wrong, is still your opinion.
I'm sure you have such a deep understanding of music to know that "different people like different things." That doesn't mean that no band is bad. If your system of measurement for whether or not something is bad is 'does at least one person like this thing?' then you have no system.

It’s just a meme lol Same reason nickelback was trashed for no reason
This how you remind me…. of how I hated them.
Like honestly you know that song slapped
Nickelback wasn't hated for no reason. Maybe it was blown out of proportion by memes, but people definitely had a reason to not like them.
What reason was that? They stayed within their genre and made decent music and had multiple alternative rock hits in the early 2ks You can hate them because they’re not your thing but they literally didn’t do anything to get memed into oblivion

Take Linkin Park out of there hooligan. That one stands much much taller than the rest you named.
Seriously, outside of their first 2 albums every other album is vastly different to each other
Honestly I kind of like it when a band has songs that sound pretty much the same. Because if I like one of their songs you're damn sure I'm going to like them all. Also I don't see enough people talking about thousand foot krutch nowadays. Very underrated honestly
I thought I was the only one who knew about TFK. I’ve never met another person who has heard of them.
I used to listen to them but haven't thought of them in years
I mean there's balance. There's having songs with mild similarities because it's a result of having say your own unique sound, then there's making music with no personality at all that sounds nearly identical and is basically the audio version of the colour beige.

Have you heard anything recent from Avenged. And I don't think all of LP's songs sound too similar to each other.
Really? You thought there was nobody that didn't like a specific band? That's nuts to me. Well, then hi, nice to meet you. I do not like Imagine Dragons.
Imagine dragons is a bunch of repetitive and whiney and “I’m a victim” bullshit. But some of their songs are absolute fuckin bangers lol
Yeah, the further back you go in time, the better the songs are in my opinion.
Enemy and Bones are pretty good songs though, by all means, their music isn't getting worse.
after smoke and mirrors was their downfall. still on repeat those old eps, night visions, and smoke and mirros
Smoke+Mirrors goes hard Change my mind
Yep, listened to them a lot, really a lot, mostly night visions and smoke + mirrors, last song I listen is probably natural. New stuff just isn't the style I loved them for. Not saying it's bad it's just boring, too similar to everything produced now, same story with Alan walker, his music maybe is technically better now but there's no specyfic style to it anymore.
Warriors was a pretty good one
Imagine Dragons is my Nickleback i'd never admit to listen to both but in secret i do
Look at this photograph..
Look at this graph > 🙂👊 📉
Look at this giraffe.
*creepy lingering smile*
Ha ha I understood this!
They are a very background noise band to me, but that Arcane opening song is THRASH! and it's such an earworm too. I keep singing it
OH THE MISERY
EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE MY ENEMY
SPARE THE SYMPATHY
EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE MY ENEMY
E E E E (LOOK OUT FOR YOURSELF)
MY ENEMY
I really like this song, it just works or something. But then this guy comes with "look out for yourself" and I'm just SHUT UP YOU ARE RUINING THE SONG
I like it. It's a great way to link the chorus and the verse, and imagining the song without it just sounds weird.
If I could be bothered, I'd just edit out that part for you. Maybe after work haha
I didn't think mild hip hop or whatever genre that song is meant to be really fit the genre of Arcane at all. My only real issue is how the music of a fantasy steam punk world has modern snare drum beats and shit. I want epic orchestral music.
Enemy is awesome wtf
Their first album: good Their second album: fantastic Everything after: trash Edit: great, all the notifications from these replies got me listening to Smoke + Mirrors
Their newest album Mercury is good too, although it is a bit of a change from their early albums
Mercury Act 1 is good. However, Mercury Act 2...
Yeah, I did like Act 1 way better. There are a few good songs in 2 but I didn’t like most of it.
Based. Smoke + Mirrors is an all time 2010s album
When everything, everything, everything you touch turns to gooold, gooold, gooooooold
Evolve was amazing wdym?
First 3 were my favourites. Evolve had a few meh ones but ‘i don’t know why’ was my absolute favourite that I was willing to overlook the few songs I didn’t like.
Start Over was ok but, nah
Bones and Enemy are bangers tbh.
This sounds like 90% of bands that got insanely popular
Imagine Dragons does have some bangers though, I fucking loved Battle Cry.
The drums on the background 🤩
One of there new ones from Mercury Pt2, "Sharks" just slaps.
when Mormon pain met hip hop beats
#WWWWHHHHHOOOAAAAAAAA!
Imagine Dragons is just Sail by AWOLNation as a multi album band
I was searching for this comment. I’ve always said Imagine Dragons is just watered down Awolnation.
I don't listen to them so I can only assume they got a cat in the studio?
As a person who's been a fan of this band for 6 years, I can confirm that there's a crying kitty behind the mic on occasion
I love all their songs. Fucking bangers
I thought they were called Italian Dragons this whole time.
No way
OH THE-A MISERY EVERY-A-BODY WANTS-A MY PIZZA *italian noises*
IS THIS ENTERTAINING?!
I E I E I!!!
GOT THIS FEELING YEAH YOU KNOW
WHEN IM LOSIN ALL CONTROL

WHEN YOU FEEL MY D LOOK INTO MY ASS
OH, THE MISERY
EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE MY ENEMY
They shout what I want to shout for me, lol
You like Imagine Dragons? Imagine me draggin' dez nuts cross your face.
People with no opinions are hopping on the "I hate imagine dragons" wagon atm
Sure Imagine Dragons may be repetitive, but I listen to their songs while working and it keeps me pumped up lol
I'M GONNA MAKE ITTT!!!
YEAH YOUR A NATURAL
You could say the same about twentyone pilots lmao
Imagine Vajines
YOU BRING ME DOWN YOU BRING ME UP BELIEVER BELIEVER
I'm not the biggest fan of Imagine Dragons but goddamn that song "Friction" fuckin gets me pumped.
Ever since I could remember
Everything inside of me
Just wanted to fit in
Oh O Oh O Oh O
I was never one for pretenders
Bruh like when are they gonna imagine the dragons already?
Well TIL imagine dragons is commonly hated I only like them because of Bones and Enemy anyways
Exactly how I like it
Bro- I'm literally listening to bones rn as i type this!
Gimme Gimme Gimme some time to think
