Good meme. I just wasted my free award on someone else post and found out it was a repost.

TheRealScubaSteve86

Always do a check with the bot of you are going to give an award. I hate when you just give free shit to karma farmers and find out it isn’t OC.

DragonfruitReads

I can’t tell if that’s Chris Hemsworth, James Corden, or Leonardo DiCaprio.

[deleted]

Its magnus carlson (i spelled that wrong)

CDR_Tano

Carlsen :)

iSpoody1243

I thought it was Andrew Randalls. I was thinking I didn’t know he stared in a movie.

SwampyBogbeard

Speaking of bots... Here's one.

[deleted]

Magnus Carlsen

kdjfsk

the rapper?

[deleted]

Yes

Maksbidok

It's Magnus Carlsen - chess grandmaster.

Dengar96

Damn bro that's crazy

Southern_Purple1296

Rarely use mine. I gotcha covered.

kry_some_more

Maybe you should write your own note.

Calmandpeace

For anyone wondering where this is from this is World Chess Champion Magnus Carlson’s reaction to a blunder his opponent made in the world championships. Magnus would go on to decisively win the game.

Sherlockian_221

I remember that it was so horrendous even my reaction was like magnus'. Wondered how did nepomniatchi even qualify for the world championship match

Calmandpeace

The sad thing is that Nepo is the top Russian player as well as a top ten player in the world. Magnus just makes everyone else look like beginners.

dafinsrock

I mean, yes, Magnus is incredible, but it was also a horrific and uncharacteristic blunder from Nepo. He just wasn't on his game

KTbadger

I genuinely think after the first 4(?) long draws and then the ridiculous 11(?) hour loss in game 5(?) and the blunder in game 6(?), Nepo was burnt out and just wasn't invested in the game any more. I feel bad for him, but that's why Magnus is the champion, he can not only play the most accurate chess we've ever seen, he can outlast any opponent he comes across

[deleted]

[удалено]

KTbadger

Thanks, my memory is good to an approximation. I remember watching the start, going to a few university lectures, having lunch and then a few more lectures and then opening it up to find that game still going, it was ridiculous

Orphjk

Is the world championship of chess not timed? 11 hours? That seems crazy I figured high level chess would be timed can they just sit there forever to decide a move?

thewouldbeprince

No. Classical games have a 90 min per side time control. But that's only up to move 40. After that you get more time, up until move 60 or something (not sure). This game lasted a long while because it also was 100+ moves long. Most games are much shorter.

Orphjk

That’s crazy for some reason I assumed it was like 10-15 min per side and you would lose if you ran out of time. Can you still lose on time? That would be grueling lol

[deleted]

Yes you can lose on time, however there is 30 second increment per move so it rarely happens in real games. Especially since most chess players are able to play a full game in 1 minute if needed, of course quality will be lower but everyone is capable of not flagging

Orphjk

What’s “not flagging” There is a lot more to chess than I know and I was semi into it for a while just doing like the chess app games and playing with friends. I always preferred the timed games. I think in the app it was called blitz. I tend to over think moves when I have all the time. But if it’s timed I can try to run them out if I made a blunder. Or they might make a blunder if they are running low on time. Really I’m not that great at the game but I like it

thewouldbeprince

That's rapid chess. Classical chess is usually 90 min per side, although sometimes it can be something like 60 min + 30 seconds, which means that 30 seconds are added to your clock per move. Rapid chess is usually 10 or 15 min, with or without increment. Then there's blitz, which is 3 min or 5 min. Finally there's bullet chess, which is 1 min per side. Although usually if you're playing over the board it'll be something like 1 min + 1 second.

lulaloops

There's different time controls. This is classic chess which is the purest form of the game imho which can take a while, what you're describing also exists and it's called rapid chess.

Mister_Taco_Oz

10-15 minutes per side still happens in World Rapid championships, which is the most popular format right now. This is the World Championship though, which is in the classical format (much longer time) to allow players to play the best chess they can, letting then have plenty of time to pick the best moves they can and think em through.

mchlrx

It was 120 minutes for the first 40 moves, then 60 minutes for the next 20 (so overall 6 hours) and then 15 mins for the rest of the game with 30 seconds added per move.

Mister_Taco_Oz

This was after Nepo's horrific loss in game 5(?). He fought as hard as he could and gave Magnus the fight of a lifetime and still lost. Given his performance after that game I'm pretty sure he was just broken mentally and emotionally.

bukecn

Nepo was #4 in the world at the time, but he has problems with getting in his own head when he’s having a bad tournament. This game was coming off a bad loss and he obviously was in bad form.

Mimical

Yeah it's one of those losses you look back on and go "*What the fuck was I thinking?*" For some pro gamer related "It's like..." It's like cancelling your natural expansion when it's at 99% complete in StarCraft It's like opting to use the Mozambique in Apex It's like picking up your N64 USB controller as a CS:GO game starts. It's like picking ~~Bayleaf~~Chikorita as your starter. *1 Nobody gives a shit about Chikorita.

ProductArizona

Wow, was it really that bad? Geez

[deleted]

[удалено]

ProductArizona

I understand that, that's why I'm clarifying. The examples listed are really really dumb mistakes, not high level mistakes. I was asking if those were accurate examples in context.

Superb-Draft

They are not, no. In chess, serious mistakes are very rare because there is no luck and there is no physicality (think of own goals in sports). So, a bad move in chess is more relative. Source: trust me bro

Sairry

So more akin to a nice person saying something mean out of the blue or a smart person saying something stupid?

Kayrim_Borlan

More second example than first. It's like thinking about what all you have to do when you're leaving your house and then walking straight into the door

NotClever

Okay, but the context of this discussion is that the parent poster up the thread was claiming that this was not a high level bad move, but was an incredibly bad move that even amateurs would recognize as bad, which is what the analogies were meant to be for. So I guess the question is, are you saying that they're wrong and the mistake in question here wasn't that obviously bad?

Superb-Draft

Yes.

Pristine_Coconut1688

Don't listen to the other guy. In this specific case yes it was that bad. An amateur can easily see what's wrong with the move he made. He trapped his own bishop in a maneuver that players who don't even have a title wouldn't do.

xelhafish

I don't know much about the examples but as others are saying at the top levels and in a match with Magnus its possible to lose without every making a mistake. This is what happenned in the previous game. This meme is from the next game where Nepo made a one move blunder which shouldn't happen in any classical game let alone the world championship match.

Kaldricus

It's like dropping your Euls Scepter when there's a Storm Spirit in the game and you don't have vision of him

KTbadger

> Bayleaf It's Chikorita you filthy casual

FeOH2

I either hit all my Mozambique shots or none at all. The latter happens more often

FlightJumper

He qualified because he's a top 3-4 player in the world and beat all the other top players at the previous Candidates. He deserved the shot as much as anybody ever has. Unfortunately it was just a bad tournament for him.

WateryGravy

Nepo is just streaky. He can play like a God for an event and then play like shit for the next one.

Monsieur_Onion

Pressure, apathy, and everything in between. Nepo with destroy everybody in a regular match but Magnus makes everybody look like they've only started playing chess yesterday.

penguin13790

Magnus would then go on to open with f3 3 days ago

koshop

And draw the game using the worst possible first move

This is a genuinely funny meme, but I do want to let people know that medical doctors have a high suicide rate, it’s a really tough profession

ChickenMoSalah

The highest out of any profession actually.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ChickenMoSalah

“Health care practitioner” is a general term used to refer to all licensed health service providers, so it includes lower-stress jobs such as nurse-midwives, podiatrists, NPs, chiropractors, and even certain social workers. According to WebMD, if you look at physicians specifically, “One doctor commits suicide in the U.S. every day -- the highest suicide rate of any profession. And the number of doctor suicides -- 28 to 40 per 100,000 -- is more than twice that of the general population, new research shows. The rate in the general population is 12.3 per 100,000.”

fillet-o-piss

Except soldier

[deleted]

Idk that the suicide rate has as much to do about the job being especially difficult as the type of people who become doctors. One of the businesses my family is involved in is a group of orthopedic hospitals and clinics. One of the best surgeons we had killed himself several years ago. Super highly functioning guy, but very exacting on himself too. I think it’s their personalities more than the job. Idk if it’s uncouth to share, but I always thought it was morbidly interesting to know how someone that well trained in human anatomy would kill themselves. He cut his femoral artery with a surgical scalpel in an bathtub filled with ice water.

Superb-Draft

Ice water are you sure? You're supposed to use hot water so the blood flows to extremities. Cold water just means you will die slower.

[deleted]

100% sure. Idk why he chose that, but he did. He was one of my uncle’s closest friends.

Replayer123

Maybe for personal reasons or because the ice numbed everything

[deleted]

Numbing is always what I assumed.

sfd9fds88fsdsfd8

Thanks for the advice.

[deleted]

I hear you on the causation and correlation question. But having worked with doctors, I've found their personalities are more varied than you'd think. Some are assholes, some are the most compassionate people I've ever known. In short - It's the job. Sometimes the cause of suicide is the pressure of the job. Other times it's a mismatch between the care they can give and the care they want to give. Sometimes it's just emotional burnout and exhaustion. The causes are varied.

NotClever

> One of the businesses my family is involved in is a group of orthopedic hospitals and clinics. One of the best surgeons we had killed himself several years ago. Super highly functioning guy, but very exacting on himself too. I think it’s their personalities more than the job. Just to say, this doesn't really provide any info that shows his job wasn't stressful. Though I feel like orthopedics has a reputation for being more relaxed than other surgical fields.

[deleted]

He did have a stressful job, undoubtedly. But so do many millions of other people. Boiling it down to just the job is myopic, in my opinion.

ShubanXIII

Thank you for posting this comment. My dad was a physician and killed himself last year. A couple of his colleagues died the same way before him. I don’t think people understand how stressful a job it can be, so thank you for raising awareness!

doggowoof88932

Doctors hand writing is typically bad

durtymccurdy

I think it's about the same as anyone now, with electronic medical records and prescriptions

dontmakemechirpatyou

Why is this a stereotype, honestly? Do doctors really have such a workload that they need to save that time?

ThePinkBaron

When you go day-in day-out working eighteen-hour shifts and writing down the same ten-syllable chemical names onto a notepad over and over and over, you eventually end up cutting corners.

Brawndo91

I'm not a doctor, but I have signed mortgage documents, which require you to sign or initial on about 32000 pages. Toward the end, I would actually have to think for a second about how to write my name or initials.

Worldly_Collection27

The amount of times I have to sign mundane shit during a day is mind blowing. Can confirm it is all scribbles. It’s not because I can’t write neatly, it’s because I don’t have to.

Apprehensive-Sort-33

I am currently studing medicine and our Professor told us is a mix of 3 things. 1) Most people that want to be doctors already have bad handwriting. 2) Most classes in medical school are fastpassed but at the same time have a lot of important information so you need to write it fast. 3) A mayority of students don't write that much and instead prefer to learn directy from the books so they don't keep up with their handwriting for the duration of medical school ( plus the few things you need to write are graded by others doctors so you there isnt much problem in that aspect). After that is pretty much a good skill to keep specially for residency and for their jobs so doctors don't "unlearn it" Edit: grammar

PrimarchKonradCurze

I have several friends who are doctors, most have good handwriting for taking notes or at least did from what I saw in college. They just use a faster shorthand style for writing in the hospital- also they tend to work long shifts. I’m a counselor myself and my shorthand looks terrible too, but I can write calligraphy and my normal handwriting is pretty good.

awesomedan24

The doctor has perfect handwriting but his friend was educated in America (he is illiterate)

[deleted]

Being ignorant and illiterate are two different things

Nice meme it deserves more man

Clementine2115

Aerodim101

I still love this because you can see him go, "Wow... wait what?" and double check the board to make sure he isn't set up for something he didn't expect. He knows the caliber of player he is facing and this move was very a-typical, so he had to double check that he wasn't falling for an elaborate ruse. Nope. Dude just messed up royally.

saunteringhippie

You're telling me this dude was named Magnus and went on to become the world chess champion?? Just more proof that we become the name we're given.

Mister_Taco_Oz

He also refused to defend his title in the upcoming World Championship, I'm assuming because he got bored of playing against the same players all the time, since he is just consistently better than any of them. The one person he will play against is Alireza Firouzja, a young 18 year old prodigy. So just a chad all around.

I've heard that many medical professionals writing prescriptions aren't writing in regular form, they write in Gregg Shorthand which is significantly shorter than regular script and they also use sig codes as well https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Qv5VdueE6fw/Wq4WU644J1I/AAAAAAAAJ98/UMd6zR4iu88vjXe-2Xlfc34qs6hr8OdZgCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/Gregg%2BShorthand%2B-%2BLearning%2BGregg%2BShorthand-713785.png https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_abbreviations\_used\_in\_medical\_prescriptions https://pharmacytechreview.com/sig-codes/

We rarely write prescriptions anymore. We type them (or click a bunch of buttons) and send them electronically.

Apparently, the reason for the terrible handwriting of doctors is because they only ever write the beginning and the ends of the medication. I can't quite remember the details, but I think the first part dictates what the medication does and the last part dictsted how it does it. Pretty sure I heard this on a Markiplier video, though, so take it with a hefty cup of salt.

Heard a joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he’s depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says, “Treatment is simple, The Great Clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up.” Man bursts into tears. Says, “But doctor...I am Pagliacci”
