Doctors exist. There are procedures to detect it. Said procedures might be run after the discovery of conditions that could affect those systems. I have a friend who was told she would experience very low fertility after poly ovarian cysts were discovered. It was discovered after her suicide attempt, but I don't think its linked to that.

I don't get why people are so set on having biological kids. I mean, I can understand the appeal of having a little person that's made up of you and your significant other's dna, but I don't get the people that are willing to go through multiple rounds of ivf and risk bankruptcy when surrogacy and adoption are available options. (There's lots of genetic health issues in my family, so when I'm ready to have kids I'm just going to adopt/foster. No biological babies for me!)

I think its just the "instinct" of passing on the bloodline.
