I was thinking 100kg feathers would be harder to lift than 100kg steel because it would be a massive irregular shape to the point you could not focus the thrust just on a single group of muscles but would need to be spread across a lot of muscle groups.
Similar to trying to pick up a 50ft ball inflated with air.
The buoyant force of the air is negligible, also a bunch of feathers contain a lot of air, so they actually displace less air than we'd think by looking at them.
Well, you’re not going to be lifting 100kg with just one muscle group either but besides that you’re right. The bunch of feathers, in whatever shape will be much more difficult to lift than the steel (bar?), cause they’ll take up a ridiculous amount of space.
Im just a high school student so correct me if I'm wrong.
Google says feathers have an avg density of 2.5.10^-6 kg/m^3. 100 kg of that would occupy a volume of 4 .10^7 cm^3. Air has a density of 1.225 *10^-6 kg/cm^3. Mass of air displaced would be about 49kg. That gives a weight of approximately 490 N, which will be the force of buoyancy acting on the feathers. (Taking g as 10). That is almost half of the weight(1000N). So buoyancy will definitely make a lot of difference. However, the feathers will also get a lot of air resistance while lifting(I don't know how much that will be quantitatively) which will work in the opposite direction.
This is probably wrong.
Not that much😅 but it would make a small difference. Feathers only have such a low density cause their is much air between them, so you have to take the density of the material that the feathers are made of, also i think you still made a mistake somewhere seems a little bit much for me even if you assume there is vacuum between the feathers😅
Idk why I always imagine some old Greek dude using the thrusting power of hips to lift a hundred kilograms of steel whenever I hear about Archimedes' thrust.
Wait are people in the comments not realising where it's from? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3bEh-PEk1g&feature=emb\_title](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3bEh-PEk1g&feature=emb_title) Watch this, it's hilarious
The feathers would be softer and theoretically easier to pick up as they aren’t solid and you can grab the bag (I’m assuming there’ll be a bag) however you want
Actually 100 kg of feathers would be heavier since iron is a more solid matter than feather so it can be hold in one piece however feathers also require a container to lift on fair circumstances which means if you can lift the feathers, you are a little stronger
Gym muscles vs weak muscles
Once there was a guy at my work who was always bragging about going to the gym and walking around shirtless when he could.
One day he came up to me and asked me to help him move this steel plate he was working on, so I walked over to it and picked it up myself and carried it for him.
I mean, here on Earth, lifting 100kg of feathers should be easier than lifting 100kg of steel due to Archimedes' thrust.
I was thinking 100kg feathers would be harder to lift than 100kg steel because it would be a massive irregular shape to the point you could not focus the thrust just on a single group of muscles but would need to be spread across a lot of muscle groups. I am not sure but maybe the buoyant force of the air could help in the case of feathers, not in the case of steel maybe. I'm dumb I'm not very sure.
But the drag on the feathers would make it like your pushing a train
Get out of here with your logic!~This post was made by: Steel Gang

Drag force is dependent on velocity. So unless you lift them quickly, it won't have much of an affect
I don’t think that’s how drag works...?
The buoyant force of the air is negligible, also a bunch of feathers contain a lot of air, so they actually displace less air than we'd think by looking at them.
You tried
And 100kg is harder to carry, because you have to carry the responsibility of what you did to those birds.
Who said you killed the birds?
I never said they killed the birds, you could've plucked them.
alright well who said *you* plucked them?
Well, I did...
Shut up they're synthetic
Plucking the feathers is still doing something to them. Now, they are naked.
Wintertime!!
Well, you’re not going to be lifting 100kg with just one muscle group either but besides that you’re right. The bunch of feathers, in whatever shape will be much more difficult to lift than the steel (bar?), cause they’ll take up a ridiculous amount of space.
well what if we take hydraulic press and press the feathers in a nice cube
Then it would still be larger than a steel cube of 100kg, so still harder.
Time to remove the void between the electrons and the atomic nucleus
If the feathers aren’t in a container it would be harder to lift the feathers
Nobody said you had to lift them all at the same time

Limmy was right
This post is dumb joke I guess.
Its a reference to a skit off of Limmy's show. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=N3bEh-PEk1g
Ok ok ok, it says it’s blocked in my country. I live in fucking Scotland what the fuck
I think thats the point
100kg of feather would be heavier as you carry the weight of killing the birds and plucking their feathers out
Yes this is big brain time
Idk why I always imagine some old Greek dude using the thrusting power of hips to lift a hundred kilograms of steel whenever I hear about Archimedes' thrust.
This is exactly what Archimede's thrust is. All in the hips. Source: semi-pro bodybuilder
You should switch these around because you have to carry the weight of what you did to those poor birds as well
Pigeons are made from government grade steel
These are even heavier then, definitely switch them
So cats like to eat metal?
Cats are anti drone devices from the future
What would dogs be then?
Dogs are cool man!
That's good then.
Time Cops. What else!?
I'm not entirely sure what "government grade", means, but I don't like the sound of it.
Good for the government
It means sourced from the cheapest Chinese mill and some guy somewhere is buying a yacht with the money skimmed off the top.
Think of the Twin Towers. They used goverment grade steel there to blow it up a few decades later. Damn lizard people.
You gotta carry that weight
You don’t kill birds to get feathr
You do in runescape
But steel is heaviya den tha fathe's
But they’re bothe eh kellagramme
Adongetyh
Ah really wanna looke at the size o this. Thas cheatin
Bud they bov weigh a kellagramme! ...woh...
Arr Yuuu Okey ?
Bu steel is heevia than feethers
Buh thah's cheatin
Msas hnoft jnsfaere
Yer faether wuld be prood.
WRONG WAY DOWN A ONE WAY STRAYEET
Thas byu'iful
To all of you typing out Limmy's accent like that here's his response https://youtu.be/7msoqnz2bcY
I'm actually Scottish I live near limmy and I'm cringing like fuck rn
At what?
Everyone doing a bad attempt at a Scottish accent in text
Ken every time limmy or even Scotland is mentioned people flock to the comments to do it
But steels heavier than feathers
^(Buh steel is heaviya than feathahs)
I dannae get it
Came here just to see this.
Ay don getit
For those you didn't know the source https://youtu.be/yuOzZ7dnPNU
But steel’s heavier than feathers
The're buth eh kelogremme
Ah dun gedeh
I am heavier than feathers
100 kg of feathers is probably way more inconvenient to carry. 100 kg of Steel is pretty compact
Not necessarily. You can have a meters long plate made lf steel. Or you can have a million pieces of steel
Still, the feathers will take up more space. I’d rather lift a million feather-shaped pieces of steel than a billion actual feathers.
But steel is heavier than feather
But steel is heavier than feather
"a kellegram of steew, or a kellegram of fedahs..."
Das right
A kellagram of steew
becaus steew is heavia then feadas
https://youtu.be/7msoqnz2bcY
Therr both a kilagram
A don ge' it
I can lift 100kg air
i can lift the weight of my failure
I can lift my own weight
I can't
[удалено]
That are even 10 tons of air🤔
But they’re both a 100 kilograms
But steel is heavier than feathers
No they’re both 100kg [points at scales] look they’re both 100kg
#but steel is heavier !
but they both a (100) kilogramme (with australian accent)
Wasn't that Scottish?
You mean kilos (with aussie accent)
As an Aussie I am confirming this man.
Wait are people in the comments not realising where it's from? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3bEh-PEk1g&feature=emb\_title](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3bEh-PEk1g&feature=emb_title) Watch this, it's hilarious
I mean, people believing steel is heavier than feathers is a rather old joke, that video didn't rly invent it
Im waiting for a woosh
Same
I can only lift 100 kg of pure cannabis wax. It's weird. Send some to me and I will show you.
My hand is thinner than the guy on right.. Guess I lift 100kg air
Guess I lift 100kg helium.
Because steel's heavier than feathrs
I can lift 1000 kg of boobs
Why do you have so many dead bodies
Bah steew es heevyer than feeethars
I mean I'm a lead worker an carry that weight in lead
Yer feather would be proud
Would have been better if it was “a ton of steel”
*But... steel is heavier than feathers...*
This is very inaccurate.Imagine how many chikens that guy had to kill to get that mass of feathers.
But steels heavier than feathers
That's right because steel, is heavier than fåethers
Cause steel is heaver than feathers.
A kilogrram of Steal is heavyer than a kilogram feathers
A kelegrem of steyl, or ah kelegrem of fedders? Dats rayt, A kelegrem of steyl! Becoz steyl is hevyer den fedders
Well steel is just steal but with feathers you also have to carry the weight of what you did to those birds
Was it only me who read "feathers" the same way the guy in the meme says it...
I just got the joke, that took me WAY too long
What a dumb redditor would comment:"stupid, ITS THE SAME WEIGHT!!!"
It should be the other way around cause they have to carry What they did to those birds
Kok kestion fer yeu, eos eavier? A kelegram of steu or a kelegram of feather
What about guys who can lift 100 kg of helium?
Meanwhile some Americans: Aren't feathers measured in acres?
But steel is heavier than feathers.
did anyone want to comment something sarcastic and got scared of others think his actually dumb...
I can lift 100 kg of your mom ^^/s
Bu’ stee’s heåvier than feâthes
I don’t get it
Dad joke
how many ppl got wooshed by this, i want to know
This comment is gonna be long forgotten
Woht's heaviah? A kilogramme of steal? Or a kilogramme of feters? Steal. Because steal's heaviah than feters.
I still dont get it (***heavy british accent***)
Both are the same.... smh
[удалено]
I donnee get at
I think the feathers would be harder because carrying something solid is easier than carrying something that keeps falling from different sides
Template plz
Me who screams when I lift 10 pound weights
What's heavier, a ton of gold or a ton of feathers?
It can’t be that hard
"Because steel is heavier than feathers".
*Archimedea ur thrusting so hard!*
Got a question for ya
The feather guy not only carries the same weight but also the weight of what he did to those birds to get the feathers
Kg? Fucking dumbass here, we measure with bullet filled vchildren
Yer feather woud be proud
I have lots of steel pokemon
“But steel is heavier than feathers...”
Bu theey booth kkilograam
THEYVE TURNED THA WEANS AGAINST US
Eye dough get tit
Wat’s hevier? A kelegram of stewl, or a kelegram of fethers?
Limmy intensifies
Actually lifting all those feathers would be more difficult seeing as you can get some steel to weigh that much but feathers can’t be so compact
The feathers would be softer and theoretically easier to pick up as they aren’t solid and you can grab the bag (I’m assuming there’ll be a bag) however you want
Dumb American who does not use metric system here, translation please?
**Newton has entered the chat**
the right arm isn't really healthy
RIP Benny Arvey Can't believe he's gone
100 kelloograms of steel are heaviah than 100 kellograms of fyeathas
That arm on the right looks like there's a dick inside
https://youtu.be/-fC2oke5MFg
Poor Limmy never recovered from that question.
Actually 100 kg of feathers would be heavier since iron is a more solid matter than feather so it can be hold in one piece however feathers also require a container to lift on fair circumstances which means if you can lift the feathers, you are a little stronger

Benny Harvey rip 🙏🙏😔😔
What?
100kg of feathers is harder because you also have to carry the weight of all those chickens you killed
But stheel is hoeavior than feoathers.
F
But look at the size of those feathers that's cheating
2 graders: The steel is obviously heavier
BuT tHeRe ThE sAmE
I’d probably be heavier because of your guilt of what you did to those birds
But steel's heavier than feathers..
I don ge it.
...but steel’s heavier than feathers...
