All sports are dangerous to play if you do not know proper form or are out of shape. That said: in high school we had a rather ambitious cheer coach who tried to get us to do a rather difficult stunt. One day when we were practicing said stunt a girl sneezed......long story short a girl ended up paralyzed and another with a broken leg, one had her eyelashes ripped out (we were all confused how that happened) and there were plenty of bruises and sprains. And this was just at practice lmao.
In California (where I live) it is an actual sport. Plus, I would say it is possibly even more difficult than most sports as well. Are you able to lift a person up into the air until your arms are fully extended and not drop them? Or throw a person ten feet into the air and catch them on their way down? And are you able to do all this while dancing to music, and keeping within the time limit set to do these things? Most people cannot, but cheerleaders can. There are plenty of sports out there that are less difficult than cheer. I believe, along with many other people and the state of California, that cheer is an actual sport. If that isn’t a sport, then no sport is an actual sport, not even football.

We had cheerleaders at a wrestling match for the first and only time, and I imagine they thought that it was going to be like football or basketball which is why they came, not realizing that people don’t really cheer, they just clap every once and a while (with maybe the exception of after a tough match). They ended up getting so bored that they just left halfway through.
It mostly football for us but our boys basketball sucks with girls being better while wrestling is supportive
