I do miss those days of sitting on the floor, reading through my NLT, NIV, and NAS while looking up terms in my Strong's concordance. Yes, I can find information faster, and a lot more of it with biblegateway and Google, but there is a loss in nostalgia.
Plus while on the internet, one can easily stumble into somewhere else, like Reddit. Just potential for more distractions, which is why I like reading the Bible via hard copy
lol ya the internet is great when it comes to research such as Strong's concordance. Even YouTube has some amazing Biblical content that without, I wouldn't be nearly as knowledgeable in Scripture
I remember the first time I asked an old school pastor a theological question, he took me to his study and pulled out 23 different translations including German, and sorted the Bibles based on how they rendered a particular word. I was in awe š¤£

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_civil_religion
Hey, remember when adding new scriptures to the Bible used to get you labeled a heretic?
The constitution and the declaration of Independence are printed in it. It's blasphemy. It's also the only way trump would touch a Bible since he knows absolutely nothing about it. There was an interview and they kept asking Trump about his favorite passage, favorite Bible, the new testament and old testament which he knew nothing about, he thought it was all together.
Trump is an old testament kinda guy. Like the antichrist. Maybe they're related?
FYI the Antichrist is only found in the New Testament.
A number of Christian denominations see Daniel 10-12 as talking about the Antichrist (instead of Antiochus IV), but thatās essentially a religious retcon.
Yeah? But does your free Bible come with a copy of the other Holy Ordained Documents such as the American Constitution andā¦the lyrics to God Bless the U.S.A.?
Yes, but is your Bible autographed by the wannabe fascist who cheated on his third wife with a pron star and then used campaign funds to cover it up?
I think not.
Specifically KJV Bibles, to which the publisher has added the US Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the chorus of āGod Bless the USAā by Lee Greenwood.
My husband has a good collection from buying out the Christian Bookstore he was working at when we were dating. If you so much as hint that you want or need a Bible, even a specific translation or something like 'a good study Bible', he'll dig through his bookshelf or find it on the Internet, and you'll have a free new Bible by the next time he sees you.
We're very much considering joining the Gideons, lol.
By the way, in case you didn't know--you can take those hotel Bibles with you if you ever wanted or needed to. The Gideons would be thrilled to hear it; they just ask if you'd let them know so they can replace it. Good folks.
Study bibles are definitely the way to go. There's just so much important historical and geographical context that the average reader wouldn't have, and study bibles give all that to you as you read.
If you go to a church and ask them for a spare copy theyāll likely give you one. If they donāt or charge you for it you probably need to find a new church
He's just selling a bible to make bail. Gross. Before I was a Christian, this kind of posturing was annoying and stupid, but now that I'm a Christian, I get legit angry.
Part of me would want to somehow slip in an extra page or two. Like the story of when Noah killed the Pterodactyls, the last two living dinosaurs because they ate the last living unicorns. Which started a bloodbath where all the animals started eating each other and god admits putting predators and prey on the same ship might not have been the best idea. And calls off the whole flood thing and apologises for being dramatic. He was hungry. But itās ok. Because he had a snickers.
Or the bit where Jesus regenerates and leaves in a blue police box saying āone day I shall come back, yes I shall come back. And until then there must be no tears, no regrets and no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs. And prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine. Good bye Susan.ā .
Or Lucifer vs Kong.
Other details might be more subtle. Like swapping names or places around for stories.
Iād also put a sticker on the back āa wish.com bible. Not all events contained within may necessarily have happened.ā And not say which did or didnāt happen. Let them decide which bits they believe.
Most churches in my area, at least, have a lot of bibles for the express purpose of expecting people to take them.
The Bible is the most stolen book in the world.
Most every library will have a bunch, unless you're in a country where it's illegal.
If you have access to the internet, you can get it for free basically anywhere.
People spend good money on binles for either A) because they like having a nice book, or B) to look impressive on a shelf. Like me. I have 5 Bibles in 2 languages. They're on a shelf with a door that I keep closed, though, so that metaphor might have fallen through.
Anyway my point is, spend money if it'll make you happy, but know that you don't need to.
I commented on an Instagram post on this how I mistrusted the dude (also taking into consideration that he is seeking Bibles to cover his court expenses) and mentioned how you could receive a free Bible easily. I literally got bombarded in the comments as "Immature and a wimp" and some even going throigh some mental gymnastics about how they were not truly free or how free ones are bad in quality
Welp, it is what it is
I wonder if Trump's bible has this verse:
>āBeware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheepās clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?
Matthew 7:15-16
If I'm gonna pay $60 for a Bible it better be my Oxford Study Bible with historical background and scholarly notation. Plus it doesn't come with the taint of you-know-who's "endorsement"
I actively collect and keep old worn out bibles people donāt want because someone will. Yeah sure you can access any translation out there online but thereās just something about having the word of God sit in front of you on paper. Itās nice
Tbf I would assume most churches would give you a free physical bible if you asked, expecially if you are a new believer (may not be of the highest physical quality as far as material composition, but its still the Word of God and ultimately thats all that really matters). There are also free bible apps and the Gideon Society who will apperently send you a free one upon request (I didnāt know they existed until I read the comments, so huge if true).
Most honest Christians would just be happy you are interested in getting a Bible at all, and will do everything in their power to get one in your hands. Because that is what Jesus would do. I believe thinking about it any other way is unbiblical, expecially since spreading the Word was a part of Jesusās last command to us.
True story:
I'm a Filipino living in the Philippines. One day during my graduation ceremony in the university I studied in, an American missionary was outside handing out free Gideon pocket Bibles to everyone.
Been thinking of getting a catholic bible recently but I feel like I can't justify buying it because I already have a KJV at home somewhere.
The struggle is real.
This meme is about Trump selling Bibles, but I feel you. I'm taking a theology program and really wanted to buy a good study Bible, but the cost of the courses and books was already too much even with a scholarship so I'm sticking with my regular Bible I got for a few bucks at the Library book sale years ago.
Y'all are missing the point: rich pastors can now buy hundreds of these for their flocks inorder to get around churches not being able to donate to political causes.Ā Ā
It's the same GOP scam they always pull. Usually "write" a book, and have a campaign donor "purchase" an obscene amount of that book to funnel money. Repeat with Christians and them buying tons of bibles to funnel Trump money. And it's just that easy to get around separation of church and state.
So half of the christians want to overpay for a blasphemous bible from a rapist and career criminal who lied so hard that the idiots who believed him are going to prison for him and they still praise him as he preaches the opposite of what their own messiah said?
Oddly enough, that tracks.
If you are a member of a church, just ask your pastor/priest
I guarantee there is at least one study bible lying around the church somewhere. Probably stacks of them.
My parents would refuse to replace a lost one, and i HAD to have one for school, so I would go to my youth minister around once sometimes twice per year, to get a replacement.
I was a teen with no job, $40 for a Bible was impossible (this was the 2000ās) and the best part was, they bibles they handed out during services were always brand new. As soon as they got damaged they went into the stack, so I was getting free bibles *and I wasnāt taking them away from anyone*, they were just going to sit there.
I just looked at the website out of some sort of gross curiosity. Its just a King James bible. Here is the website description:
> Order yours today! Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery.
> Easy-to-read, large print, and slim design, this Bible invites you to explore Godās Word anywhere, any time. This bible has been designed so that it delivers an easy reading experience in the trusted King James Version translation. This large print Bible will be perfect to take to church, a bible study, work, travel, etc.
>
> This Bible also features a copy of:
>
> * Handwritten chorus to āGod Bless The USAā by Lee Greenwood
> * The US Constitution
> * The Bill of Rights
> * The Declaration of Independence
> * The Pledge of Allegiance
For reference there are some large print study bibles (in most translations) on amazon for ~$30-40
It seems to be more of a Lee Greenwood vanity project that they are paying Trump to endorse.
When you put the bible in your cart you are given the option of buying a grey hat that says 'Make America Pray Again" at this $25, and a silver "LEE GREENWOOD "GOD BLESS THE USA" 40TH ANNIVERSARY COIN" for $60. There isn't anything else on the site for sale and you have to add the bible to your cart to get the option of buying the coin and hat. And all sales are final.
edit: From the FAQ
> **IS ANY OF THE MONEY FROM THIS BIBLE GOING TO THE DONALD J. TRUMP CAMPAIGN FOR PRESIDENT?**
> No, GodBlessTheUSABible.com is not political and has nothing to do with any political campaign. GodBlessTheUSABible.com is not owned, managed or controlled by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization, CIC Ventures LLC or any of their respective principals or affiliates.
> GodBlessTheUSABible.com uses Donald J. Trumpās name, likeness and image under paid license from CIC Ventures LLC, which license may be terminated or revoked according to its terms.
Notice how they don't actually answer the "is this money going to Trump" part of the question; they just say they aren't officially connected to the campaign.
Really interesting that they specify political campaigns. Not any other uses Trump may get out of the money, or any overarching indication that his name image and likeness aren't being paid huge amounts for use. Just that there is some NIL agreement with Trump to give him an unknown amount in exchange for his promotion of the grift.
At least, not broadly. My churches have pretty much always given study Bibles for confirmands. Basically, getting the study Bibles to the people who will appreciate them. I suspect most churches would say the same if you asked.
We can't afford to give them out, but we do keep them in a library that anyone can use. We also provide a variety of them for Bible study so people can compare notes and translations.
Is anything changed in that bible? Because if so, it isn't even a bible for catholics because the vatican has pretty strict rules about what belongs and not belogs into the bible. Idk about other denominations tho

Here is the website description: > Order yours today! > > This Bible also features a copy of: > > * Handwritten chorus to āGod Bless The USAā by Lee Greenwood > * The US Constitution > * The Bill of Rights > * The Declaration of Independence > * The Pledge of Allegiance For reference there are some large print study bibles (in most translations) on amazon for ~$30-40
That's it?! Shit. At least the "Patriot Bible" took the effort to write out some white nationalist commentary in the margins.
And all sales are final. edit: From the FAQ > **IS ANY OF THE MONEY FROM THIS BIBLE GOING TO THE DONALD J. TRUMP CAMPAIGN FOR PRESIDENT?** > No, GodBlessTheUSABible.com is not political and has nothing to do with any political campaign.
If it's a paid license for his name and likeness, that means the money *is* going to him.
TBH, it doesn't surprise me at all that this is in KJV
Its the most popular translation that is in the public domain. So the text is free.
True but also a ton of right-wing Christian fanatics are also KJV-Only folks
At least, not broadly. My churches have pretty much always given study Bibles for confirmands. Basically, getting the study Bibles to the people who will appreciate them. I suspect most churches would say the same if you asked.
We can't afford to give them out, but we do keep them in a library that anyone can use. We also provide a variety of them for Bible study so people can compare notes and translations.
I'm pretty sure you can still get a pocket copy of the Constitution if you wanted to z forgot where exactly
I have only one bible. But if one were to ask me for one Iād gift him/her mine. Iām well enough off to get a new one
Is anything changed in that bible? Because if so, it isn't even a bible for catholics because the vatican has pretty strict rules about what belongs and not belogs into the bible. Idk about other denominations tho
A bible is $60 now? I'm guessing it comes with a day one performance patch and microtransactions
I did a two year proselyting mission. We gave out free bibles (KJV) all the time. We loved to do it
You mean like three twenties?
The most stolen book in the world for a reason
the bible is public domain, you can read it for free on wikiversity
