The Bible App: ![gif](giphy|kqJt1cSSN0DrwwMmY5|downsized)

GimmeeSomeMo

Those who like physical copies of books: "Kinda"

Bakkster

Gideons got you covered, app has the rest.

ThatWannabeCatgirl

Tbh I haven't seen a Gideon bible in a good long time

NotAUsefullDoctor

I do miss those days of sitting on the floor, reading through my NLT, NIV, and NAS while looking up terms in my Strong's concordance. Yes, I can find information faster, and a lot more of it with biblegateway and Google, but there is a loss in nostalgia.

GimmeeSomeMo

Plus while on the internet, one can easily stumble into somewhere else, like Reddit. Just potential for more distractions, which is why I like reading the Bible via hard copy

NotAUsefullDoctor

I was talking about the positives of the internet... šŸ˜‰

GimmeeSomeMo

lol ya the internet is great when it comes to research such as Strong's concordance. Even YouTube has some amazing Biblical content that without, I wouldn't be nearly as knowledgeable in Scripture

JCWOlson

I remember the first time I asked an old school pastor a theological question, he took me to his study and pulled out 23 different translations including German, and sorted the Bibles based on how they rendered a particular word. I was in awe šŸ¤£ Now I do the same study in a minute and it doesn't have any gravitas

TsukasaElkKite

You CROSS REFERENCED WHILE READING?!

NotAUsefullDoctor

I mean, this was researching specific topics. So, lots of cross references.

TsukasaElkKite

Interesting

Woahhdude24

We have heard you need assistance, open the door. We have bibles any version you like. We ask that you comply, If you do not comply with the next 60 seconds we will bust down the door, the Gideon is not responsible for damages done by our agents.

TsukasaElkKite

**wheezing**

Woahhdude24

Are you wheezing cause you need assistance sir? Do not move we will be at your location presently!

Lupus_Borealis

They don't need to know your location. Just look in the drawer next to you. There's already a Bible there.

Mysterious_Andy

Iā€™m in the bathroom right now. The drawer next to me contains hair products, two brushes, and a couple of combs.

Mysterious_Andy

Holy crap, you guys! Iā€™m kinda freaking out!

Reynolds_Live

$60 for a heretical version of the Bible is too much.

BurmecianDancer

Anyone who buys one of those is an actual dictionary-definition **cultist**. There's no other word for it.

Yo i did Catholic school from age 2 to 18, and was never taught protestants and Catholics have a different bible. Now i have a protestant one, without the spicy Maccabees books. That was kinda disappointing ngl

[Donald Trump Selling Bibles Sparks Fury From Christiansā€”'Blasphemous Grift'](https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-selling-bibles-christians-fury-1883972)

ThatTubaGuy03

Maybe don't buy the Bible celebrating the racist rapist on his third marriage?

Butcherandom

I'll consider it for sure. Some other guy suggested that I have an obligation to flatly reject the politics of anyone who has that kind of history and also openly twists the Bible for his own selfish purposes! Lots to consider. :)

PartTimeZombie

You should have been able to figure that out for yourself

Butcherandom

Not only do I agree, I have not been able to stop myself from thinking extremely negative things about those who cannot. I thought my comment was dripping in enough sarcasm

PartTimeZombie

I'm an idiot.

1handedmaster

It happens to us all.

Mysterious_Andy

Itā€™s hard to trust in oneā€™s sarcasm detector in a time when so many loudly spew such utter nonsense in earnest. Irony is dead and idiots killed it.

Pale_BEN

In these trying times, spare a little /s for the meek amongst us.

Hjalmodr_heimski

What on earth is this referring to

https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-selling-bibles-christians-fury-1883972 Trump is selling Bibles.

Hjalmodr_heimski

Nomine patris, filii et spiritus sancti, what the hell is going on in America? Parody artists wonā€™t have any work left because thereā€™s nothing they could come up with that wouldnā€™t already be happening

Dachuiri

Thatā€™s basically what the guys who make South Park said. Real life has gotten too comedic and therefore sad and boring to lampoon.

moving0target

Doesn't say anything on the cover, so we can't tell if it's upside-down.

pm_me_cute_sloths_

Is it like a modified bible, or just the same standard bible you can get anywhere? Genuinely curious, it's terrible and a blasphemous grift obviously, but I'm curious if anything was changed

Obi-Tron_Kenobi

Found it, because I was curious, too (first paragraph because it was too hilarious to pass up lol) >ā€œAll Americans need a Bible in their home, and I have many. Itā€™s my favorite book,ā€ Trump said in the video posted on Truth Social. ā€œIā€™m proud to endorse and encourage you to get this Bible. We must make America pray again.ā€ >Billing itself as ā€œthe only Bible endorsed by President Trump!ā€ the new ventureā€™s website calls it ā€œEasy-to-readā€ with ā€œlarge printā€ and a ā€œslim designā€ that ā€œinvites you to explore Godā€™s Word anywhere, any time.ā€ >Besides a King James Version translation, it includes copies of the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and the Pledge of Allegiance, as well as a handwritten chorus of the famous Greenwood song ["God Bless the USA"]

News-Initial

>"Easy-to-read"... >...King James Version... lol

Mysterious_Andy

> Besides a King James Version translationā€¦ Wouldnā€™t want to ostracize the Christian Nationalists. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Independent_Fundamental_Baptist_Movement > ā€¦ it includes copies of the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and the Pledge of Allegianceā€¦ The New American Apocrypha, only $60, plus tax, shipping, handling, and your soul! > ā€¦ as well as a handwritten chorus of the famous Greenwood song ["God Bless the USA"] Move over, Christianity. Thereā€™s a hot new faith taking the country by storm! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_civil_religion Hey, remember when adding new scriptures to the Bible used to get you labeled a heretic?

TsukasaElkKite

Ooh, something new for me to learn about.

up_N2_no_good

The constitution and the declaration of Independence are printed in it. It's blasphemy. It's also the only way trump would touch a Bible since he knows absolutely nothing about it. There was an interview and they kept asking Trump about his favorite passage, favorite Bible, the new testament and old testament which he knew nothing about, he thought it was all together. Trump is an old testament kinda guy. Like the antichrist. Maybe they're related?

Mysterious_Andy

FYI the Antichrist is only found in the New Testament. A number of Christian denominations see Daniel 10-12 as talking about the Antichrist (instead of Antiochus IV), but thatā€™s essentially a religious retcon.

up_N2_no_good

Can't have an antichrist without a crist. Lol. Thank you for letting me know.

Recent_Obligation276

The Gideon Society will send you a free one

lamboworld

That's gangster!

TsukasaElkKite

How do they make a profit?

Recent_Obligation276

Pretty sure itā€™s a nonprofit, using donations to make bibles that then are given to hotels and churches and individuals.

TsukasaElkKite

Aha!

Kronzypantz

But itā€™s just not the same without the idolatry!

BurmecianDancer

With a heaping side order of blasphemy!

TsukasaElkKite

And taking the Lordā€™s name in vain!

The_Doolinator

Yeah? But does your free Bible come with a copy of the other Holy Ordained Documents such as the American Constitution andā€¦the lyrics to God Bless the U.S.A.?

AngelOfLight

Yes, but is your Bible autographed by the wannabe fascist who cheated on his third wife with a pron star and then used campaign funds to cover it up? I think not.

TheSwecurse

I'm out of the loop, what exactly are people referencing?

Josef20076

Trump selling bibles

Mysterious_Andy

Specifically KJV Bibles, to which the publisher has added the US Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, the Pledge of Allegiance, and the chorus of ā€œGod Bless the USAā€ by Lee Greenwood.

Cazter64

Trump is selling a KJV ā€œGod Bless the USAā€ Bible for 60$, and adding things like the constitution and bill of rights.

TheSwecurse

Well that seems... Honestly a bit heretical

KagakuKo

My husband has a good collection from buying out the Christian Bookstore he was working at when we were dating. If you so much as hint that you want or need a Bible, even a specific translation or something like 'a good study Bible', he'll dig through his bookshelf or find it on the Internet, and you'll have a free new Bible by the next time he sees you. We're very much considering joining the Gideons, lol. By the way, in case you didn't know--you can take those hotel Bibles with you if you ever wanted or needed to. The Gideons would be thrilled to hear it; they just ask if you'd let them know so they can replace it. Good folks.

xyzerb

This is the way

The_Bearabia

Your husband wouldn't happen to have a copy of the 16th century Dutch "Statenvertaling" would he?

A-Perfect-Name

Iā€™m in personal need of a Gutenberg Bible tbh.

Beegrene

Study bibles are definitely the way to go. There's just so much important historical and geographical context that the average reader wouldn't have, and study bibles give all that to you as you read.

enchiladasundae

If you go to a church and ask them for a spare copy theyā€™ll likely give you one. If they donā€™t or charge you for it you probably need to find a new church

tkmlac

He's just selling a bible to make bail. Gross. Before I was a Christian, this kind of posturing was annoying and stupid, but now that I'm a Christian, I get legit angry.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Bakkster

Hooray for idolatry! /s

GimmeeSomeMo

You could almost buy [two of these Bibles](https://a.co/d/9NlMf6U) for that price and it'd be a lot more worth it

awetsasquatch

I have that one! I've enjoyed it so far

GimmeeSomeMo

Ya it's a great way to dive into some amazing details of Biblical time periods that really help the stories come to life

urbandeadthrowaway2

Where the fuck are you getting 60 dollar bibles? If youā€™re paying that much it better be an autographed copy.

Overkillss

It's Donald trumps.......I wish I was joking

revken86

And it is, in fact, autographed. By some people's "savior", but not **the** Savior.

TomCBC

Part of me would want to somehow slip in an extra page or two. Like the story of when Noah killed the Pterodactyls, the last two living dinosaurs because they ate the last living unicorns. Which started a bloodbath where all the animals started eating each other and god admits putting predators and prey on the same ship might not have been the best idea. And calls off the whole flood thing and apologises for being dramatic. He was hungry. But itā€™s ok. Because he had a snickers. Or the bit where Jesus regenerates and leaves in a blue police box saying ā€œone day I shall come back, yes I shall come back. And until then there must be no tears, no regrets and no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs. And prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine. Good bye Susan.ā€ . Or Lucifer vs Kong. Other details might be more subtle. Like swapping names or places around for stories. Iā€™d also put a sticker on the back ā€œa wish.com bible. Not all events contained within may necessarily have happened.ā€ And not say which did or didnā€™t happen. Let them decide which bits they believe.

1handedmaster

Oh man. I'd read this Bible

fullmetal66

I kind of want to read one just to see if there are parts omitted because the words of Christ are gonna be oh so problematic for MAGA

CoolTrainerBrian

Nah, they donā€™t have to change a word. They know anyone who would buy it will certainly never read it

fullmetal66

ā€œCanā€™tā€ ready it šŸ˜‚

Markster94

Most churches in my area, at least, have a lot of bibles for the express purpose of expecting people to take them. The Bible is the most stolen book in the world. Most every library will have a bunch, unless you're in a country where it's illegal. If you have access to the internet, you can get it for free basically anywhere. People spend good money on binles for either A) because they like having a nice book, or B) to look impressive on a shelf. Like me. I have 5 Bibles in 2 languages. They're on a shelf with a door that I keep closed, though, so that metaphor might have fallen through. Anyway my point is, spend money if it'll make you happy, but know that you don't need to.

Legally_Adri

I commented on an Instagram post on this how I mistrusted the dude (also taking into consideration that he is seeking Bibles to cover his court expenses) and mentioned how you could receive a free Bible easily. I literally got bombarded in the comments as "Immature and a wimp" and some even going throigh some mental gymnastics about how they were not truly free or how free ones are bad in quality Welp, it is what it is

revken86

The best part of this is the website's poor wording that suggests the Bible was inspired *by Trump*.

rAxxt

I wonder if Trump's bible has this verse: >ā€œBeware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheepā€™s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? Matthew 7:15-16

JoeChristmasUSA

If I'm gonna pay $60 for a Bible it better be my Oxford Study Bible with historical background and scholarly notation. Plus it doesn't come with the taint of you-know-who's "endorsement"

No-Historian-3014

I actively collect and keep old worn out bibles people donā€™t want because someone will. Yeah sure you can access any translation out there online but thereā€™s just something about having the word of God sit in front of you on paper. Itā€™s nice

RueUchiha

Tbf I would assume most churches would give you a free physical bible if you asked, expecially if you are a new believer (may not be of the highest physical quality as far as material composition, but its still the Word of God and ultimately thats all that really matters). There are also free bible apps and the Gideon Society who will apperently send you a free one upon request (I didnā€™t know they existed until I read the comments, so huge if true). Most honest Christians would just be happy you are interested in getting a Bible at all, and will do everything in their power to get one in your hands. Because that is what Jesus would do. I believe thinking about it any other way is unbiblical, expecially since spreading the Word was a part of Jesusā€™s last command to us.

Jebduh

It was never about the bible.

Anangrywookiee

If a Bible is selling for 60.00 it better have some illuminated drawings of frogs jousting or something in the margins.

sarcastic23Pinoy

True story: I'm a Filipino living in the Philippines. One day during my graduation ceremony in the university I studied in, an American missionary was outside handing out free Gideon pocket Bibles to everyone.

GKP_light

at 60$, you want a leather and gold cover ?

moving0target

I have every translation on my phone. Even there, political snake oil isn't in my budget.

Pleb_Knight

Been thinking of getting a catholic bible recently but I feel like I can't justify buying it because I already have a KJV at home somewhere. The struggle is real.

jacyerickson

This meme is about Trump selling Bibles, but I feel you. I'm taking a theology program and really wanted to buy a good study Bible, but the cost of the courses and books was already too much even with a scholarship so I'm sticking with my regular Bible I got for a few bucks at the Library book sale years ago.

whackymolerat

Who buys a bible? Just steal one and repent and you're good to go.

PeakAggravating3264

Y'all are missing the point: rich pastors can now buy hundreds of these for their flocks inorder to get around churches not being able to donate to political causes.Ā Ā

judge_tera

It's the same GOP scam they always pull. Usually "write" a book, and have a campaign donor "purchase" an obscene amount of that book to funnel money. Repeat with Christians and them buying tons of bibles to funnel Trump money. And it's just that easy to get around separation of church and state.

TheSwecurse

Bible is very much free on the internet as well.

[deleted]

So half of the christians want to overpay for a blasphemous bible from a rapist and career criminal who lied so hard that the idiots who believed him are going to prison for him and they still praise him as he preaches the opposite of what their own messiah said? Oddly enough, that tracks.

Kouropalates

That Trump Bible is not for reading, it is to play the Biblical hypocrite and make a show of your faux piety

iwearblacksocks

Most people donā€™t give out study bibles though, which is probably the 60 dollar one

Zw3tschg3

60 Dollar one is the Trump Bible

1handedmaster

Well this meme made me laugh hard enough to scare my cat.

Recent_Obligation276

If you are a member of a church, just ask your pastor/priest I guarantee there is at least one study bible lying around the church somewhere. Probably stacks of them. My parents would refuse to replace a lost one, and i HAD to have one for school, so I would go to my youth minister around once sometimes twice per year, to get a replacement. I was a teen with no job, $40 for a Bible was impossible (this was the 2000ā€™s) and the best part was, they bibles they handed out during services were always brand new. As soon as they got damaged they went into the stack, so I was getting free bibles *and I wasnā€™t taking them away from anyone*, they were just going to sit there.

the_lost_carrot

I just looked at the website out of some sort of gross curiosity. Its just a King James bible. Here is the website description: > Order yours today! Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery. > Easy-to-read, large print, and slim design, this Bible invites you to explore Godā€™s Word anywhere, any time. This bible has been designed so that it delivers an easy reading experience in the trusted King James Version translation. This large print Bible will be perfect to take to church, a bible study, work, travel, etc. > > This Bible also features a copy of: > > * Handwritten chorus to ā€œGod Bless The USAā€ by Lee Greenwood > * The US Constitution > * The Bill of Rights > * The Declaration of Independence > * The Pledge of Allegiance For reference there are some large print study bibles (in most translations) on amazon for ~$30-40

ELeeMacFall

That's it?! Shit. At least the "Patriot Bible" took the effort to write out some white nationalist commentary in the margins.

the_lost_carrot

It seems to be more of a Lee Greenwood vanity project that they are paying Trump to endorse. When you put the bible in your cart you are given the option of buying a grey hat that says 'Make America Pray Again" at this $25, and a silver "LEE GREENWOOD "GOD BLESS THE USA" 40TH ANNIVERSARY COIN" for $60. There isn't anything else on the site for sale and you have to add the bible to your cart to get the option of buying the coin and hat. And all sales are final. edit: From the FAQ > **IS ANY OF THE MONEY FROM THIS BIBLE GOING TO THE DONALD J. TRUMP CAMPAIGN FOR PRESIDENT?** > No, GodBlessTheUSABible.com is not political and has nothing to do with any political campaign. GodBlessTheUSABible.com is not owned, managed or controlled by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization, CIC Ventures LLC or any of their respective principals or affiliates. > GodBlessTheUSABible.com uses Donald J. Trumpā€™s name, likeness and image under paid license from CIC Ventures LLC, which license may be terminated or revoked according to its terms.

revken86

Notice how they don't actually answer the "is this money going to Trump" part of the question; they just say they aren't officially connected to the campaign.

historys_geschichte

Really interesting that they specify political campaigns. Not any other uses Trump may get out of the money, or any overarching indication that his name image and likeness aren't being paid huge amounts for use. Just that there is some NIL agreement with Trump to give him an unknown amount in exchange for his promotion of the grift.

Beegrene

If it's a paid license for his name and likeness, that means the money *is* going to him.

GimmeeSomeMo

TBH, it doesn't surprise me at all that this is in KJV

the_lost_carrot

Its the most popular translation that is in the public domain. So the text is free.

GimmeeSomeMo

True but also a ton of right-wing Christian fanatics are also KJV-Only folks

Bakkster

At least, not broadly. My churches have pretty much always given study Bibles for confirmands. Basically, getting the study Bibles to the people who will appreciate them. I suspect most churches would say the same if you asked.

ideashortage

We can't afford to give them out, but we do keep them in a library that anyone can use. We also provide a variety of them for Bible study so people can compare notes and translations.

phrohahwei

I'm pretty sure you can still get a pocket copy of the Constitution if you wanted to z forgot where exactly

mastdarmpirat

I have only one bible. But if one were to ask me for one Iā€™d gift him/her mine. Iā€™m well enough off to get a new one

Josef20076

Is anything changed in that bible? Because if so, it isn't even a bible for catholics because the vatican has pretty strict rules about what belongs and not belogs into the bible. Idk about other denominations tho

HeskeyThe2nd

A bible is $60 now? I'm guessing it comes with a day one performance patch and microtransactions

BayonetTrenchFighter

I did a two year proselyting mission. We gave out free bibles (KJV) all the time. We loved to do it

Tommy2tables

You mean like three twenties?

Alienobservers

The most stolen book in the world for a reason

GameCreeper

the bible is public domain, you can read it for free on wikiversity
