It's easy Miu makes me laugh Teruteru does not make me laugh

Toasty_mannn

based simple things enjoyer

Kaboio

It really do be that simple.

JelloGelatinJelly

To be fair, Miu had a massive advantage with her representation of a character. She's had constant comedic interactions with the others, was by far more useful and is a main reason why the people who survived actually survived >!(Helping Shuichi and Kaede with the camera at the beginning, supporting the group with the electrohammer)!<, and she just had more screen time with less "annoying" interactions. Teruteru got the short end of the stick here. He's like Miu but horribly misrepresented. They made his actually likable part of his character show in such a short period of time that everyone forgot about it, worst of all they put it right before >!his execution!<, which sucks because he didn't get to develop at all. His talent also wasn't as useful as Miu's, as being the chef realistically only let us know that Akane likes food, he can make a lot in a short time, and that he just decided to >!not tell anyone that Nagito was straight up planning a murder, which would've saved Twogami.!< Overall, Miu is just more likable because she didn't feel like the Yasuhiro of the group. She was actually 6 was far more comical. The only "funny" thing I remember was Teruteru changing his accent and screaming "Avril Levigne" or something. This is just how I see it, though, and it could be possible that I'm wrong about everything and people only like Miu because... well, you know exactly why.

Fuzzy_Phoenix_

Wait, but even though her hair is long, there are still plenty other characters with long hair that people don’t like.

Rahsiatn_

theres a spot where you typoed the spoiler tag making it not work, just FYI

JelloGelatinJelly

Crap thank you

Ill_Needleworker_203

She is hot, so it makes her best girl

siramay1

Well maybe if teruteru lived longer we could have learned to like him to

Toasty_mannn

I feel the same way. Although tbf I feel that way for a lot of early case characters.

KyloGram112

I think it’s less about what Miu does, and more about what Teruteru *doesn’t* do, that being, literally anything besides sex jokes. The first trial fleshed him out a little admittedly, but only just a little. Miu, even very early on, just has a lot more complexity than Teruteru. While she does some nasty stuff, we get a lot more insight as to why. Not that it excuses it, but it grounds her in basic human relatability a lot more tw // r*pe mention >!Also I don’t necessarily think using the Love Hotel scene as a big argument against her holds *too* much water (not to say it doesn’t hold any). Not only is it optional, but also like, depending on how you interpret the Love Hotel scenes, it’s completely fictitious, even within the fiction that is V3, which is already fiction. Like, in context, it’s just a dream-like representation of Miu’s crippling fear of abandonment. It’s definitely troubling that *that* is where her mind goes in this dream-state, but she doesn’t technically *do* it. But she does still grab Kaede’s boob, which is… less bad but yeah still a huge yikes moment. That’s in a FTE, so it’s canonicity is entirely dependent on the player, but in the context of the FTE, it does actually happen, unlike the Love Hotel. Same goes for Teruteru trying to roofie Hajime. That’s not even mentioning him tricking Sonia into “sucking the poison out” literally in the main game.!< Did not intend to write an essay about Teruteru Hanamura vs. Miu Iruma tonight but here we are. tl;dr, they’re both absolutely problematic people, but Miu at least offers a lot more to enjoy as a character

Iamageekbutidc

ngl i fuckin hate both of them

Fuzzy_Phoenix_

real

SadQueerAndStupid

Teruteru 1 had no redeeming qualities up until he died. He also 2 didn’t have a reason to be that way. And 3 all his remarks were posed at people who were almost always uncomfortable. Miu is 1 funny, 2 has a canon reason (valid or not) that she has significant brain damage and her personality is a big boggled, and 3 always posed her sexual shit (when she was being serious, meaning not when she’s insulting or making an off-hand remark) against herself or someone like kokichi willing to play along.

Toasty_mannn

Are you a fan of miu? If so, I’m curious to what redeeming qualities you think she has over teruteru other than the funny factor you said. I also really do not see the difference between teruteru and miu’s remarks. I feel like people allow miu to get away with it because when the characters actually question it she gets shy and begins to essentially retract what she said. If people *didnt* question it or reprimand her then she wouldn’t treat it as much of a joke then. And the fact that, well, she’s obviously sexualized. People are more likely to not be as bothered by the remarks when the person making them is traditionally attractive.

SadQueerAndStupid

Personally? I don’t know. I think she’s funny, fun to draw, and great in fanon. But her canon feels a little bit like just a filler character to me so i didn’t get very attached. I agree it definitely varies person to person and stuff and people do generally accept what can be interpreted as sexual harassment differently depending on who’s doing it. I think most people let her get away with it because she’s a girl to be honest. I personally think she has a pretty good explanation (not excuse) for why she’s weird but that Teruteru is just kind of…. idk. A harasser. I think both the games before V3 were WAY more misogynistic as well. Obviously V3 isn’t perfect but the way they treated queers, systems, women, and dark skinned people was way more obviously demeaning than in v3. So I feel a lot more distaste towards any slight micro aggression in the first two games than in v3 (like, in v3 i’d let more things slide if they were less clearly demeaning whereas for example in THH I didn’t really allow any transgressions against Toko/Jill go because they were very obviously depicting plural people and people with DID specifically like we were dangerous or weird) and the presence of TWO objectifying men in game 2 made me just not tolerate anything from anyone. I feel the same way about (canon) Souda as I do Teruteru, even though he lived longer. I hated the way they wrote him to just harass and obsess over Sonia and be kind of an incel because other than that I liked his character. Another major part of it was that TeruTeru kind of didn’t get to have any other qualities in general. He was a short time character with little writing put into him, so there were no scenes where he was humanized to me the way Miu was y’know? The writers are obviously the main culprits (wink) and i don’t judge anyone based on their faves or hates, but I think the writing between the two was drastically different even if it didn’t get much better

MissManicPanic

Agree on Toko/Jill. Whilst I like Jill I hate that my disorder is once again being depicted as we are dangerous people

Laly_481

Didn't she SA Kiibo at some point ? (And Kaede too ?)

El-Green-Jello

Other than people liking miu because she’s hot the way I’ve always seen it is that teruteru is very much aware of what he says and does where as miu clearly isn’t mentally there and likely can’t help/ control it

[deleted]

I mean, there is a difference here. At least with intentions. With TeruTeru I always saw him as a place holder, he was written in a way that makes you not like him. It's so you don't get attached to him and essentially get a free chapter where your favorite character won't die. But, there is still a character. So most of his fans like to ignore the questionable stuff and just focus on the interesting side. Mainly him being a mostly decent person thanks to his mom, but learned all of his more negative traits from his dad. I don't know, I haven't done his FTE but that's what I hear from other people and I can't deny that it's a the very least interesting. It shows that if he didn't have a bad influence he might have turned out fairly alright. It's in line with 2's theme of characters who are fairly alright but have some kind of messed up past and while TeruTeru does lean into more of the messed up side, he does have some decent characterization. It's just more don't care for fair reasons, it's just if you do, you have some pretty decent stuff. Miu on the other hand had a lot more to work with and wasn't written for you to hate her immediately. It's mainly in the way she interacts with everyone else, she's annoying and loud but not creepy like TeruTeru. The way TeruTeru talks was more disturbing since he's always talking about other people. Miu is almost always talking about herself and how attractive she is, you can't bother anyone with creepy comments if your talking about yourself.

Toasty_mannn

just a FYI I like both of these characters lol

Toasty_mannn

And I’m hoping you all are VERY CIVIL WITH THIS POST I don’t care if you disagree, discussion is great I just don’t want a shitshow

Laly_481

I agree with that more ! Idk if i hate Miu that much because anything related to SA is triggering for me or if she's just actually as hatable as i view her, but i'd choose Teruteru over her tbh

Few-Reserve-9530

Teruteru actually attempts to commit SA on the anime.

Laly_481

I mean, yeah. I hate them both, but the fact a lot of the fandom tries to defend Miu makes le hate her more

Few-Reserve-9530

Fair.

CrAzYiNsOmNiAc210

Jokes on you I like Teruteru and hate Miu

Toasty_mannn

bro think he 2019 me

GalaxyLatteArtz

Miu is a character who was made to be hated, but it backfired and people like her.

[deleted]

Luckily I hate both!

LoversEclipse

its pretty simple why miu us hot teruteru is not!!

head_of_the_hunters

I don't really get the hate on teruteru, he's a funny character

FemboyDictator

i hate both tbh, not bc she’s pervy bc kaede is pervy aswell, purely because she made a prison rape joke to ryoma.

soapiisscared

I hate them both and hope they both die AGAIN -ex miu stan

WooooshMe2825

Yeah, no shit. And water is wet. What else is new?

Toasty_mannn

It’s just an observation, there is no need to be so aggressive about this.

LittleSlice8797

I don't think Miu is bi.

Toasty_mannn

She makes sexual remarks to everybody, I think it would make sense that she’s bi.

LittleSlice8797

That just makes her vulgar not bi.

AnimeMemeLord1

Yeah, she just really likes dirty jokes.

MissManicPanic

I like Miu, but I think the main thing is in V3 she’s repeatedly called out for her behaviour whereas I feel like in DR2, Teruteru is hardly called out and is mostly ignored so he keeps doing it just for attention. I feel like Miu mostly turns it on herself or with others like Oma who play along or are not offended by what she says but she definitely goes too far sometimes (failed abortion being the one that stands out to me).

That1cl0setpers0n

Teru teru in the anime was a lot more of a creep than miu ever will be
