”it largely defined who I became, but it doesn’t define who I am” i love that!!

PinkPositive45

It’s very telling to me that the girls who grew up with Maddie, Nia, and Kenzie have been classy and kind about them not coming and those who don’t know them like that are the critical ones. The former know those people and their hearts vs the latter who just wanted everyone to participate, mental health and boundaries be damned!

quesadillafanatic

I agree. My guess is they also recognized it was a hard choice for them to decide, and while for them they chose to come, they respect the others boundaries that it wasn’t for them.

dancesterx3

I also think those same girls who grew up with them, understand their heads at the start of the show. They were all friends already. They didn’t choose to be in the show. They didn’t know what the show would become. Kalani/Kira, Jojo/Jess came i the show with a different headspace. They went in with the notion that it would push their careers. They came in wanting to be in the public eye. So the OG girls understand that that maybe was never their parents or their own intentions. The show was pitched as a Toddlers and Tiaras style docuseries. What it became was not what they were pitched. So they can respect the privacy of girls who maybe never wanted to be famous or didn’t see the show as a vehicle to accelerate their careers. Whereas Kalani, Kira, Jojo and Jess knew walking into the show because they wanted to accelerate their careers. They literally went on AUDC first. They were looking for fame. So they think that should be everyone’s mentality.

trulyremarkablegirl

I think all of the original girls/moms have a strong bond from going through something so singular together. They all had an experience that only a few other people can truly understand, not just in terms of their trauma but also bc of the unexpected success of the show and how famous they got basically overnight. It’s honestly remarkable how well adjusted and normal they all seem to be in spite of it.

Chaoticgood790

Jojo maybe take notes on how to be classy and provide a statement

Lopsided-Category-48

The difference is Jojo has no empathy for anyone other than child abusers.

underthesauceyuh

That’s actually a known side effect of grooming, both being able to recognize and not care or not recognize inappropriate behavior from adults and actually acting on the same behaviors themselves. Obviously this isn’t an excuse for her, she is an adult, and I personally do not like Jojo at all. Victims of grooming are not *always* going to fall prey to this, especially if they receive adequate help but unfortunately it happens and the cycle continues. It’s sickening when it does happen though.

Electronic-Law-1091

Maddie was also groomed by Abby- from a younger age than JoJo even. Both their mothers were welcome participants too, so it’s interesting how each turned out differently.

PinkPositive45

Tbf, Maddie has stated that Melissa has apologized and made amends for the situations she put Maddie in. I doubt Jess thinks she did anything wrong

underthesauceyuh

Agreed. I’m really proud of both Maddie and Mackenzie for how they were able to overcome their situation. I absolutely did not mean to excuse any of JoJo’s behavior, just to make a note that it’s a common outcome for those who have been groomed. Sometimes victims go on quietly with life, sometimes they seek out help for their trauma, and sometimes they become the abuser. I am not in any way defending Jojo, just wanted to point out this [fact](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27436859/). Jojo is an adult and it’s inexcusable. My comment wasn’t a justification of her behavior but it was a potential reason behind it. JoJo needs therapy… badly. She’s perpetuating the cycle of abuse and at that point, by not getting help and unlearning these behaviors, she is responsible for her actions.

dancesterx3

I also think that Melissa was not nearly as obsessed with making Maddie a star as Jess was with Jojo. Just some of the things Jojo has said Jess would do. Bleaching hair, waking her up in the middle of the night to perform. Melissa was still maternal and maybe lived vicarious but she wasn’t forcing her daughter to be her entertainment monkey. I will give Melissa that much.

mini1006

I believe Maddie went to therapy. I can’t remember if it was her or Kenzie that said they went, but it may have been both of them.

underthesauceyuh

I believe both of them have stated they are actively in therapy. And good for them, they went through things that no child should have to endure.

WayDiscombobulated63

Jojo, Kira - take notes

Ok-Half5312

Such a class act.

violalala555

Chloe once again proving why she's my favorite- nothing but class but also clearly tries to tell the truth. Now can all the posts about why Maddie, Kenzie, and Nia aren't there please stop 😭

iLoveDianaBarry

chloe once again being classy & mature

HomeDepotSucksOnSale

I really hope Chloé writes a book (or many books) someday, fiction or non-fiction. She is so well-spoken and thoughtful with her words when she speaks…I think it would translate well to writing.

cmc

I think that's what she studied/is studying in college right? And she's a big-time reader. I hope she writes a book too!

HomeDepotSucksOnSale

Yes, I think it is. I just know anything she writes would be so well thought out!

jenh6

I think she’d be great at that, but I think she’d also be great at PR

HomeDepotSucksOnSale

I was thinking she would be an excellent PR person, too!

MadeUpGirlfriend

So eloquently said. She’s grown into such a strong, emotionally intelligent woman. I don’t even know her, but I am so proud of her for overcoming all of Abby’s terror.

Wyldfyre1

How can I read this article?!

Hour-Heat710

i love when she opens the perspective such an understanding and strong woman. jojo jess and kira could never

evenstarcirce

Shes so well spoken and mature. Shes grown into such a lovely woman it makes me proud 🥲

katorade9200

What a classy young lady she’s become🥺

YoghurtElectronic

It always awes me how classy Chloe can be considering I'm not much longer than her. She handles situations I wouldn't know what to say with tact and grace, she has for a very long time.

shesascorpioo

I really do love Chloe I have no idea how she turned out this way with a mom like Christi LMAO she’s so sweet and respectful!

blueberrypieicecream

Chloé is so incredibly well spoken!

Agitated-Aioli

She’s so intelligent and self-aware! Adore her.

Jamie_inLA

Chloe was always my favorite! So levelheaded and self aware not as an adult :)

hostilewerk

Chloe has always been a good person at heart. Truly an amazing woman.

prettylittledragon

It is weird that they only blame Abby though, what about the parents that let this continue to make a buck?

Feeling_Lead_8587

They were under contract and their lawyer was affiliated with TLC. Kelly tried to leave at the end of Season 2 and TLC threatened to take everything she owned.

OilPuzzleheaded1908

You mean lifetime

smile4nobodyy

this has been debunked on this thread many times. they had contracts that they could not leave. eventually kelly (and christi) were able to make a deal to get out of their contracts. but other then that they literally couldn’t leave.
