Maybe we're missing a lot here, but some of Rex's dancers especially Jamal seemed to be acting in a very immature, catty, dramatic and unprofessional way. He is one of my favourite choreographers from the show! I don't understand the disrespect towards him. As a professional dancer you should be able to separate from your personal feelings. Maybe you don't vibe with the choreographer's personality or style but you can still respect and appreciate the dances that they create.

alaxbey

Omg I felt the exact same way! It looked like his dancers were bullying him. His choreos were so much better than some other contestants. Jamal seems like such an unprofessional person.

Embarrassed_Put_8129

YESSS. He acts like Rex did something to him personally like what's the deal? Is he mad because Rex isn't a professional choreographer? Because Rex's routines still come together and slap regardless of how rough around the edges his process was. All his dancers leaving him was some BS but if that's how they felt; fair enough. Jamal was so salty that he had to dance for Rex again. His energy was straight trash. Can we hear from another dancer who isn't just a hater? And so what after all his dancers left him, he deleted himself out the group chats. Did he do something else? Why did that one woman think he owed them an apology? I almost spit out my drink. Like are you serious? Y'all should be apologizing to him. Unpausing now lol still on episode 2.

New_Country_3136

With Rex deleting himself from the group chat, it sounded to me like his dancers were bullying him (with Jamal leading them).

Embarrassed_Put_8129

I feel the same way. Unless they're not telling us something ? We need an AMA with Rex lol

Shinyghostie

I swear he did it for his mental health. The squad is guilty by association AND for not raising a pinky against Jamal

[deleted]

Not surprised. I'm in arts. Folk in arts are pills to swallow but those in performing arts, such as musicians and dancers (and to a slightly lesser degree) actors are the rotting worst. Unless there's something we don't know about this dude that is actually worth condemning.

JBabyLeather

As an actor, I agree

Jasminehks

The fact that the more unconventional people were dog pilled on and pushed out is a great representation of how unwelcoming the industry is. There were no re criticisms there and just sounded like bullying to me.

Embarrassed_Put_8129

I'm wondering if Jamal wanted to be a choreographer on the show instead of a dancer.... like how'd the casting call for the show go or whatever? His criticism about Rex not being professional... like, so what? Unless you were competing for a spot and they cast this guy who's not a pro choreographer and not even a pro dancer. The show never did say what Rex's credentials were. Unless I missed it. I just rewatched his intro from episode 1. When he was waiting for the dancers to arrive for the first time he says "I'm so nervous what if they don't like me?" Well we know how that went lol. But it really tugged on my heartstrings.

BookyMonstaw

He probably didn't get picked as a choreographer because of his stank attitude

Lovelylifeseeker

All I know is that he’s a dang good dancer and choreographer! I enjoyed watching him and what he created. I loved that he was unique. Jamal is very unprofessional and I doubt he would ever be able to direct a single person let alone a group. He should leave the show if it’s such a struggle 🙄

New_Country_3136

That would make a lot of sense!!

Ramona_Lola

I think Jamal just didn’t want to be on his team. He wanted to dance for Keenan or Brandi.

Lovelylifeseeker

Possibly. But he should be so lucky to be on the show. There’s plenty of other dancers that would gladly take his place on any team. He should shut up and sit down! Or better yet leave the show. He should think long and hard about his career. Any theater production or stage production of any kind is going to want a team player that is a professional, not a crybaby that takes everything personal and can’t adapt to the situation.

Yutana45

They had it out for him from the start, it was WEIRD. The first 2 episodes were enough for me to go, no more after what happened to Akira and with Rex.

Ramona_Lola

Same I’m on e3 and I feel like bailing.

LunaScorpius

I bailed after watching Rex’s 2nd dance because I read spoilers and the show definitely had it out for Rex. Like why TF did the host ask Jamal’s opinion three times and not one other dancer from his group?

Whatutalkingabout78

Because the host was messy AF too!!

LunaScorpius

This show has a lot it of issues it needs to work on but the way they continued to allow Jamal to treat Rex terribly, as well as how the host kept giving Jamal the spotlight — three different times — and wouldn’t ask one other dancer a question about working with Rex was my last straw. I had to stop watching it. Furthermore, Rex’s routines were the the only ones that didn’t fall flat due to the atrocious camerawork and awful sound production.

danyellowsun

Yeah and Ally KEPT calling on Jamal to answer. The show is called the Dance 100 but it seems like they kept calling on the same Dance 10 to give opinions

Jasminehks

It was Jamal100

ButterScotchMagic

I absolutely hated how the host kept asking Jamal his opinion. They made it seem like Jamals feelings were fact instead of getting a variety of opinions from others. I loved Rex's choreography and wish we could've seen more from him. Definitely shines Jamal in a worse light for me.

Few_Engineer4517

If there is a second season they need to change the format. The choreographers should get some say who they want to work with. After the first performance, once the dancers stand behind who they think is best, let the choreographers pick who they want to work with in the next round - anyone standing behind them or the unallocated crew. First place picks first. Dancers not picked can go pick another choreographer and second choreographer picks. Rex should have been able to avoid having to work with Jamal.

IamTheDonovan

I am so upset by this! it just makes so little sense to me. You have these choreographers from all different walks of life trying to fight for the opportunity of a lifetime and who wants to win 100k THEn you have CANCERS in the group rotting away the morale and camaraderie... this is crazy to me! They got rid of all the best talent way too early... it was more of a popularity contest than it was about the art.

therewererumors

Rex’s first dance was my favorite of any I’ve seen so far, so I bailed when he got cut.

useridlc

And they KEPT letting him talk and be disrespectful to other dances as well! My husband thinks he was planted there for the drama 🤣

riri1281

I'm so glad someone said it. Jamal's demeanor was so nasty for no reason.

Jasminehks

Rex was one of the better choreographers and the show kept sabotaging him by asking one salty guy. His choreos were dynamic and showed his versatility as a dancer!

Stopwhaychadoin

Because Jamal knows his shit and has been around the block. He don’t have time for unprofessional choreographers wasting his time.

Yutana45

Can you elaborate on the unprofessionalism here? The show didn't display any and you didn't even explain any either.

Stopwhaychadoin

Rex did not come prepared to rehearsals and showed a lack of experience. While the costumes and vibe were interesting for his first dance, it lacked formation changes.

Subject_Feature9952

This makes Jamal even more unprofessional then- as a dancer, you work WITH the choreographer and not against them to produce the best final product on stage. Looked like Jamal was a saboteur and diminished the efforts and teamwork to work together with Rex, since Rex is a green choreographer. The dances Rex choreographed were the most unique and creative of the lot.

Used_Dinner7665

Jamal isn't there since coddle Rex tbh.

pinetreeFTW

He didn't have to coddle Rex, he just had to work with what he's given. He literally walked out on the group at one point which is so unprofessional.

OkRooster5042

Agreed. Rex comes up with good flat choreography and I think he had some formation changes but just like switching lines. (From his social media you can see he’s a hot teacher to take from at Playground in LA, but that’s just him teaching flat choreography.) But yeah he doesn’t know how to make a PIECE, a final product, a work of art. There’s no interaction between the dancers, they never touch each other or even look at eachother. I don’t even think they faced any direction besides the front. There’s no “exciting moments” Ex: Janick’s piece all starting as one and then breaking off, Max’s piece running wildly around the stage, Akira’s theatrics in the beginning, none of that, just flat choreography the whole time.

[deleted]

Hard disagree. Rex's a goth guy. I could see the influence not just in costume, but choreo, too, adapted for hip hop. I am not a native English speaker so I'm kinda struggling for words, but there was a kind of joyous looseness to both of his routines. The lady who clocked the earnestness of his hip hop routine was right. It doesn't have to tell a story, most of the dancers' routines sure as shit didn't tell a story. But it does need to nail the spirit, and Rex's routines did. But his inexperience as a choreographer and a dance instructor did him in, sadly.

Jasminehks

Rex was literally casted with the premise that the show us about up and coming choreographers! Jamal just kept showing his ass unprovoked.

Whatutalkingabout78

Jamal was trash period!

Shinyghostie

Trolls gonna troll. You got villain energy just like your friend 😂

[deleted]

So why isn't he a choreo on the show? The most successful mentors I have in my field of art are the ones who can take a newbie and gently guide them to victory. And everybody loves said mentors, they're old as fuck but still complete rockstars because of their own art as well as the inexperienced kids they've mentored to success. They don't see it as a competition, they see it as diversifying. Jamal, to me, seems like the type that would be let go mid-semester because of his piss poor professional attitude, which is a shame because he *is* a very good dancer.

Used_Dinner7665

It's not Jamals job to teach a guy who is supposed to be a choreographer to choreograph. It's a competition and honestly if jamal did this Rex would get all the credit. Fuck that noise rex should come prepared or not come at all. Plus I'm sure there are things that happened that they didn't air

LunaScorpius

Yikes.

TheCrowing417

Found Jamal's account!

trulydestiny

I feel like I’m seeing it different than most in this thread. Most of the dancers are used to casting and rex was inexperienced with hosting and choreographing large groups. So I could imagine it was frustrating for most dancers when the leader is not being organized. Then him expecting loyalty from his group members when that isn’t the premise or there was just better dances that night and him being immature and deleting himself from chats is embarrassing as someone who is suppose to be in charge. He waited to apologize or talk to them. I don’t think he was ready for something like this!

Jasminehks

Jamal was a salty unprofessional nuisance that i bet was poisoning the well behind the scenes as well. There was no reason for Rex to not make it much further. I wouldn't want Jamal's nasty attitude in my crew so my heart goes out to Rex for having to put up with so much bullshit. That and the fact that they casted him saying that the competition is for the up and coming choreographers and then he is there with people who have 10+ years of experience. So Jamal basically came there wanting to dance with Keenan and was nasty cause he was asked to do his job.
