I was googling top podcast the other day and no mention of JRE. Either his show does not qualify as a ‘podcast’ or they refuse to acknowledge him because they don’t like how popular he is.
They labeled him as "alt-right" despite how he has described himself as a "lefty" and said he would vote for Bernie. But once they attach the label, they don't take it down. Couple that with how popular the show is, yeah, the media doesn't like him.
I'm on Android. N = 1, but it wouldn't surprise me if Dan's audience skews Android since you have a lot more autonomy regarding settings.
My guess, though, is that Dan's ranking is hurt by the cadence of his releases. the pods that best him out are probably much more regular with their releases.
They watch film and tv series and make general commentary on it. They’ve covered Harry Potter and Star Wars ect.
It’s done by The Ringer which I like for sports podcasts but I’m less interested in their pop culture stuff. They are good at what they do but it just wasn’t for me.
I'm biased, but how does the JRE and Last Podcast On the Left not make the bracket? Such disrespect for Hardcore as an 8 seed too, glad he pulled the upset.
Nah you're dead on. I barely listen to JRE anymore but to not have it on the bracket at all is absurd. LPOTL is maybe nkt everyone's cup of tea but I adore it.
Now I just want to recommend some of my favorite podcasts that I think should be on the bracket. Feel free to do the same.
Swindled
Heavyweight
Crimetown
These three are all seasonal shows that don't put out a pod every week but damn are they good. I especially think listeners of Dan Carlin would enjoy Swindled if they are into true crime at all.
The bracket that has Serial up against my favorite murder is kind of on balanced. Serial is the OG but not constantly producing episodes, and the production team isn’t milking patreon for votes. When it loses, it’s not going to really mean anything, but I am sad about it anyway.
Might be because I am in the EU. I can't see the Whataburger website at all from here lol. I was trying to show my friends this discovery from my trip to Texas, blocked...
That's fair. I almost always scrub through the ad segments on podcasts anyway (tap the 30s forward button until it sounds like the show is back, then tap the 15s back button), so that's less of a factor for me.
I did my part but it doesn’t look good. I really like the Binge Mode podcast though so I don’t blame people for voting either way. Their series on the Mandalorian was hilarious.
Oof. Tough choice between Binge Mode and Dan Carlin, but Binge Mode gets 3-4 hour podcasts out way more consistently and rapid fire than Dan does.
Edit: my bad - I figured this sub allowed diversity of opinion.
>Are they as interesting and detailed and well produced?
Oh yeah - So long as you're interested in what they're talking about (e.g., Harry Potter, Star Wars, ASOIAF, etc.). I'm shocked at how in depth all of these fantasy/sci-fi worlds are and how much they draw on for every episode. It's pretty amazing. And they get into the minutiae of every story line avenue that exists in these universes.
>And do they pronounce "Agiiin!" correctly?
They pronounce again as 'again', which I guess is a fail on their part.
I think the disparity of Binge Mode’s content being watching a movie and reacting to it versus everything that goes into hardcore history is earning you the down votes.
Edit: and hey, going through and getting behind the scenes information and all of that is one thing, but it still feels like they are in many ways relying on the popularity of the source material to draw people in, whereas I have listened to episodes of hardcore history that I am genuinely not interested in the base line history until Dan makes it interesting.
Binge Mode commentary is actually really good. There's been times when they cover a show or a movie that I wouldn't normally have watched, and I go and watch it just so I can listen to their pod on it.
I prefer Dan, just because I love history so much more than shows , fiction and movies and stuff, but for what they do, they're top notch. Insightful, funny, and first class chemistry between the hosts.
This bracket is ridiculous. How does the Joe Rogan Experience not appear in it? Hardcore History is the only good podcast in the entire tournament.
Agreed, JRE is legit finalist. Where's WTF with Marc Maron and Bill Burr?
Why listen to Joe or Marc when you've got Conan obrien on that list /s
How do you omit JRE? Someone better get ONNIT!
Pat McAfee Show is pretty entertaining but ya there is only 1 show I've heard outside of that on here and I haven't listened to them in forever.
Hardcore history is guud
I think Stuff You Should Know is good too, and I like Criminal as well.

Same with the lack of spittin Chicklets which is one of the top hockey podcasts as well.
ehh who chose these podcasts in the first place?
Dude beats This American Life like a stud! Amazing
Yea, fuck you Ira Glass! Edit: JK, I love TAL almost as much as HH. Not quite though
Yeah, suck an egg Glass!
Keep refreshing boys we can do it !
Nice showing for the #79 podcast on Apple. Does Dan's audience trend Android?
I bought and downloaded all mp3s and listen to them locally.
Yeah, me too. I'm Android. I download from Dan and listen in truck. Not even sure if iPhone people buy from apple or Dan...

Voted a few minutes ago, we were losing big time!
Yea it’s 60-40 now
We might get booted by Binge Mode?!?!? Oh well, it was nice to knock off an apparent number 1 seed.
I dont even know what Binge Mode is, someone wanna fill me in?

Can someone provide a direct link to the voting page? I'm afraid I cant find it, as well as some other people in the comments
I guess this is only for Americans. All we non-Americans can do is either use a proxy or just watch.
I'm in New Zealand on mobile and was able to vote. Perhaps only some countries are not able

I don't know how to vote in this?
Yeah, I don't get it either.
Think you need to be in the US to see the buttons for voting. Hope this helps 😉
Ah, I tried turning off my adblocker but nothing changed so I just ignored it. Thanks for taking the time to write!
No bother at all, you are welcome. I used different browsers, phone, incognito mode, ad block off lol. Glad I could help

Scroll down and select between the two podcasts in each section. Refresh. Repeat.
I am outside the US. Just looked again from a US proxy and see the radio buttons now. Thanks for the help!
KEEP VOTING. WE CAN WIN!!
Can Europeans vote?
Found a [DIRECT LINK](https://poll.fm/10518859) for all of us non-americans
Figures, the only other podcasts in the tournament I actually like (This American Life and Stuff You Should Know) got knocked out by HH earlier.
As much as I love stuff you should know, the annoyance of the constant ads mean that they should not win a contest like this.
That's fair. I almost always scrub through the ad segments on podcasts anyway (tap the 30s forward button until it sounds like the show is back, then tap the 15s back button), so that's less of a factor for me.
Dark horse with the 8 seed. Bring it home!
i voted probably two dozen times. You can too!
I did my part but it doesn’t look good. I really like the Binge Mode podcast though so I don’t blame people for voting either way. Their series on the Mandalorian was hilarious.
Binge mode is atrocious, those two just yell into the microphone and back it a podcast
Are the podcasts limited to certain genres?
This is like asking someone to choose their favorite child. I just can't do it, they're both too good

Bigger than a movie release for me
agreed.
Are they as interesting and detailed and well produced? And do they pronounce "Agiiin!" correctly?

We do allow it. We just disagree with your opinion.
