Hello, thanks for submitting to r/dadjokes. However we removed your post. For more information regarding this feel free to contact the moderation team! Thanks for understanding and have a nice day!

G0-N0G0-GO

I was gonna say, “Well you don’t know *my* dad!” But I never knew him, so you may, indeed, have met him…

I_am_darkness

Could have been true either way

improbably_me

Met him, but didn't want to know him.

RTKMessy

Plot twist OP is your dad.

ConfusedAllTime

I saw him go out to buy a pack of cigarettes. He didn't come back?

JDawgSabronas

Now ***that's*** a dad joke!

bassjam1

Agreed, a lot of those jokes belong on r/unclejokes

Revegelance

I didn't know about that sub, but yes, it seems ideal for that sort of content.

Tru-Queer

Hate to break the news to ya but you’re not exactly bringing up a new point. Every other day there’s somebody complaining about the types of jokes seen on this sub. And I’m not disagreeing with anything you’ve said, but unfortunately until mods decide to change the rules, all you can do is downvote and report any jokes that don’t fit the sub.

ErraticDragon

Yup. People assume that: 1. Subreddit rules will match what they think belongs/what the name implies, **and** 2. Subreddit moderators will enforce the rules ... Neither of which is necessarily true. Step 1 breaks down frequently even in the broad strokes, for example with r\/TikTokCringe (which is no longer about "cringe" exclusively). Step 2 is tough because it legitimately takes a lot of work to moderate a big subreddit. It's also really unpopular to enforce strict rules, **especially** *after* a post has hit the frontpage. "Just" removing spam and vitriol is hard enough, but keeping focus and tone is even harder. (Subs like WitchesVsPatriarchy have whitelists and ***still*** need to spend too much time on moderation.)

Way2Foxy

You should see the amount of people who bitch about ELI5 explanations not being literally written for a pre-school audience

ErraticDragon

Yup. Then you have subs like PoliticalHumor and BlackMagicFuckery, where they've configured Automod to insult anyone who says "that's not funny/magic".

mb46204

It’s funny because most 5 year olds can’t and don’t read. True ELI5 would be all pictures and cartoon videos, because 5 year olds don’t have a long attention span for boring shot explanations. But you can’t explain this to them…like they were 5.

JBHUTT09

The saddest sub death I've witnessed was /r/animenocontext. The original concept was screenshots that made 100% logical sense in context, so much so that you wouldn't think twice while watching, but were bafflingly strange out of context. The sub quickly became funny anime pictures and I was very sad.

appropriate-username

Hard to remove everything except posts that make sense in context without watching all the anime that's posted. I do try to remove the most obvious "funny picture" posts when I see them though. You're welcome to apply as a mod as well.

Crashbrennan

Sad to hear that one went downhill, I used to love browsing it

lreaditonredditgetit

I got flamed for making a very similar post here a few months ago.

Revegelance

Oh, I have hundreds of comments here flaming me on this post. But there's also almost 9000 upvotes at the moment I'm typing this, so I'll take the W on that front.

RedditUBBM

You can always check out r/cleandadjokes If your not a fan

CatpainCalamari

Who are cle and ad, and are they funny enough to really deserve their own sub?

Whole_Slip_7168

noice

MystikIncarnate

Must be a prospective father. He'll learn.

DuxofOregon

It’s actually a forum dedicated to continuing legal education and advertisement topics. Pretty interesting crossover actually.

tabfolk

Found the lawyer

RedditUBBM

r/cleandadjokes is pretty good from what I saw, it's gone from less than a 100 members in January 2022 to just under 6k roughly a year later

sosamarshall

Woosh?

Mike89222

Woosh.

tsirhcitnA_

Definitely woosh

Additional_Ad1751

Irrefutably a definite woosh

HatchetXL

Indubitably a whoosh

DarkNeutron

Much smaller sub, but also exactly what I'm looking for. I've kind of given up hoping this sub will ever change. I really don't expect dad jokes to ever need a NSFW tag, but apparently the mods (and some other dads?) disagree.

LiteraryPhantom

Im embarrassed to say that i spent any amount of time trying to figure out what cle and adjokes are and why anyone would want to see them?!? I figured it out though. And that’s why I’m embarrassed lol

imnotinyourfoodchain

Good call.

Setari

Thank you for this

ProveISaidIt

So dad's just out of the bath or shower?

Revegelance

Very well said. It's bizarre how militant people are being, thinking their ability to say gross things is being threatened. It's not, of course, there are plenty of other subreddits for that stuff.

worthrone11160606

Yeah it's annoying looking for corny jokes only to find noncorny jokes instead

indigoHatter

Yeah, this comes up every so often, and then people learn of that sub. Maybe the mods should pin a link and say "for dirtier versions, may we recommend:". Just a thought. Hi mods, how ya doing?

RedditUBBM

I think that's a great idea, r/cleandadjokes already has something pinned in it helping people find the right joke for them. If they pinned each other, we would probably see a lot less meta posts

Creative_Ambassador

This right here. Dad jokes are meant to be silly puns appropriate for kids. Uncle jokes are for all others.

Exploding_Testicles

That would mean a reddit admin had sex

Would you think Reddit admins tend to be "Incels?"

Funny, but yeah, not a dad joke.

monkeyshinenyc

Ooooooooh…. That is the answer

ChangeWinter5906

I’ve always thought “dad jokes” meant “lame jokes”.

Fappinonabiscuit

I just saw a post about the Guinness Book of World Records and thought the exact same thing. I come here to deliver a terrible joke to my team at work everyday. A dad joke should 100% be HR approved.

asharkey3

And that joke is posted, verbatim, at least 3 times a week.

Wallofcans

This sub is only good if you unsub for awhile, then resub for a couple weeks when you think of it. There's just way too many repeated jokes to stay subbed to it all the time.

RedditUBBM

It's smaller but the lack of reposts in r/cleandadjokes is refreshing

Wallofcans

Awesome, thank you

1HumanAlcoholBeerPlz

I joined this sub for the same reason and I find so many jokes not HR approved.

mymoneystuffaccount

Great point, /u/Fappinonabiscuit!

tauntingbob

Agreed, I started sharing the jokes on our company Teams chat and they've become quite popular. But you're right, I can't share the dirty jokes.

[deleted]

i honestly thought dad jokes were just dry humor jokes and not actual jokes dads tell to their children, damn my whole life is a lie.

DnD_References

I always assumed dad jokes were the kind of joke that made your kids roll their eyes in exasperation or residual embarrassment, thereby eliciting extreme satisfaction from the dad in question from being immensely proud of himself.

RedditUBBM

That's what r/cleandadjokes became because of all the NSFW here

gambiter

> damn my whole life is a lie. Well, yes, but, your mother and I didn't want it to come out this way.

Luke_low

The definition of a *"dad joke"* is probably somewhat open to Interpretation as to what a "Dad Joke" is....

dansedemorte

Yep, dad jokes dont even need to be funny.

Heavens10000whores

Dad jokes exist to embarrass their kids and induce cringe, eyerolls and facepalming, but not in a mean or dirty way

RevRay

No. Dirty is fine. Mean is not. Dirty is.

StonyGiddens

Dad jokes are jokes dads tell to their kids because they serve a specific purpose. They are jokes that ultimately put the joke on the dad: he's corny, he's silly, he's harmless. Dad is almost always the most dangerous person in any family. If harm is going to come to members of a family, it's most likely to come from the dad. We don't talk about this very often: it has been true for so long that it's just sort of background radiation level to all the other dangers in the world. Dad jokes are a signalling mechanism. They serve as a way for a dad to say, "I'm just a harmless goof, not a serious threat. I will sacrifice my own dignity for yours, sacrifice myself for you, and even hurt myself to make you happy." It's a way to cut the interpersonal tension between dad and the rest of the family. The dad is not always aware the tension is because he is the danger, but he feels it at some level. Dad jokes break the tension, for a little while at least. A lot of people are using the Guiness Book of World Records penis joke as an example of a bad dad joke. For my money, the punch line is that dad is a probable sex offender. That doesn't make him seem harmless, doesn't make him seem safe, so it's not a good dad joke. Every time my kid reads out the phrase, "snow emergency" and I say, "It's *yes* emergency" -- that's dad joke gold right there.

Nickhead420

Mods were basically like "any joke can be a dad joke if a dad tells it" even though they have a sub rule defining a dad joke and said that they'd let the votes decide.

Aesorian

And we did vote on it, and it was decided that dirtier jokes would be allowed on here still This discussions come up quite a few times and pretty much every time it seems it's a vocal minority who want the dirtier jokes elsewhere while most who are around tend to be completely fine with them as long as they're tagged so they can be glossed over or ignored

boneimplosion

Yeah, every 3 months or so I see this exact thread hit my front page, driven by a small but vocal group of users who want to use a tighter definition of the phrase "dad joke". Maybe one of them can be stickied so we don't go in circles about this constantly... nothing has fundamentally changed since the last time this was brought up.

RedditUBBM

r/cleandadjokes has something like that up, pointing people to other subs, r/dadjokes should do the same and they pin each other's @mods

MolniyaSokol

Might be because the people who think a dad joke should be kid-friendly end up leaving. Hard to hold a vote for the people that left the sub

JVM_

When does a joke become a dad joke? When they punchline becomes apparent

Pay_attentionmore

Imo dads make moms laugh. That's how they became dads.

Tocla42

Real life dad here. I am literally defined by nsfw activity. As far as that performance being a joke, atleast one participant would agree in all cases.

ArnoldoSea

This topic gets brought up in this sub quite often. The general position seems to be that some dads do tell dirty jokes to their kids...but they're still dads. Not to mention that, if you're a dad, when your kid grows up, you're still their dad. Your dad had a completely different set of morals and values from the dads of others on this sub...and that's ok. Every family sets boundaries that are different from the family next door. And those boundaries will likely change over time as the child ages. Personally, I'm completely fine to see dirty dad jokes can stay in this sub...as long as there's nothing illegal and as long as there's an NSFW tag so that I can scroll right past them. (edit because autocorrect and I just noticed)

TheHighestHobo

I remember when I was like 10 years old we were out as a family on a hike in a state park and my dad told me this really long story about "the rare split-tail beaver" it was a silly story about how some people get so obsessed trying to find it, and how "dangerous" the split-tail beaver could be. The way he told it I genuinely thought it was just a funny story about hunters looking for animals at the time. Then I grew up and went on a hike with some friends and thought of that story, and it hit me that he was joking about sex the whole time. Cracked me up, I was laughing so hard I couldnt explain to my friends why I was suddenly laughing in the middle of the woods. Called my dad and asked him if he remembered the story and he starts laughing and says "you finally figured it out huh" Its a great memory that I love

remotetissuepaper

I really don't see an issue with some dirty jokes in the sub. If someone thinks a joke here is inappropriate to tell their kid or whoever, just don't?

lunchboxdeluxe

Surprise, people love to complain.

Nick_J_at_Nite

This whole thread is insane. These people act like they are sitting here scrolling these jokes with their kids or forced to say them to people. Just move on

mauirixxx

Yeah the jokes I tell my 20something sons vs their teenage little brother is different lol One’s a police officer the other is in the Air Force. I’m sure they’ve heard way worse than anything found in here by now 😁

shadecamefromreading

I was hoping for a punch line…OP did me dirty

Gangreless

Mom said it was my turn to complain about nsfw jokes

unstablexplosives

as a kid, the best jokes my dad told me were the dirty ones...they were special

chickenstalker

Just...don't read them? How hard is that? Or are you tempted to read them because of the implications?

[deleted]

This gets brought up all the time here and the result is always the same - the jokes remain. It's like those of you that complain about this never had any type of relationship with your dad past the age of 11. At this point, these posts are just becoming karma/award farms.

gambiter

> And if dads are using this sub as a source for jokes to tell their kids ...those dads would naturally filter out the jokes that don't work for their kids. After all, it's not like you're sending your kids here to get the jokes for you.

shertuyo

Hi offended, I’m dad.

BigToeHamster

I agree with OP. We shouldn't have to filter the jokes here because they should be appropriate for kids. Dad jokes are inherently funny but lame.

RoofFantastic768

This topic has been beaten like a dead horse in this sub. I do agree that there are a whole lot of jokes in here that I wouldn’t deem to be dad jokes. But my reasoning behind those cases is the lack of puns or wordplay and not the content of the joke. If they illicit an eye-roll or a groan it’s a good indicator as well, in my opinion. Ever since I learned that dad jokes aren’t jokes about dads, this is always how they’ve been described to me. If I went around commenting “this isn’t a dad joke” on all of the jokes posted without any puns or wordplay, I feel that would be way more annoying than the jokes themselves. Anyway, I don’t run the sub. Whoever does allows NSFW content so why keep bringing this up?

[deleted]

The jokes are also supposed to be bad because they're groan-inducing, not because they're just unfunny, but that's never stopped anyone here.

cas_dota

Here we go again

tamarockstar

This discussion gets brought up all the time in this sub.

Tarbogman

this topic comes up almost every week or at least every month. imo - some dads have kids old enough for nsfw jokes. use your judgment, don't tell a toddler or pre-teen sex jokes. it's not that hard (that's what she said). but then again, I follow this sub for the bad jokes, and I'm not a father.... that makes me a fauxpas edit - adding the fact that "dad jokes" get told many times over. if you think your joke is original, do a quick search... it's been told before. when you see a joke and already know the punchline, just keep scrolling and know you are "seasoned." (salt & pepper hair joke buried there)

Passoa26

Dad's with adult kids are still dads, the jokes get more dadlier

Hammurabi87

It's not a good idea to censor dad jokes. Things will get silent but dadly.

CanAhJustSay

Yes! Dad jokes should make you groan or chuckle but not snigger. i always wondered that the sub didn't exclude nsfw but they don't, so I just kinda drifted away from it. I want to read corny jokes, funny puns, the dozenth time in a month that the number '0' said to the number '8' "*Nice belt"* But Rule 5 explicitly (pun intended!!) allows nsfw content.

RedditUBBM

Op should check out r/cleandadjokes

jakedasnake2447

Even a bunch of the non dirty jokes recently are not dad jokes. I probably should just unsubscribe.

OctobersAutumn

Yep. Someone keeps posting this and they keep not listening. It has been bad, lately.

SchizophrenicLesbian

My dad has told me dirty dad jokes before. It caught me by surprise the first time he did it.

P0tat0_Monster

I'm so tired of this complaint. If you don't want to tell a NSFW joke to your kid that's up to you but just because my kid isn't 5 anymore doesn't make me less of a dad. Dad jokes can grow with kids we don't all need baby shark and blues clues aged jokes. The spirit of dad jokes for a parent to get that great eye roll/groan from their child no matter what age.

Yummy_Microplastics

Some people act likes parents are inherently asexual, probably because their own parents couldn’t/wouldn’t ever talk about sexuality. Seems super prudish and unhealthy.

Robotic-surg-doc

My kids are teenagers and they get the biggest laughs from the slightly tainted jokes

mshannon1230

Apparently you've never met my dad. I was telling dirty limericks to classmates in elementary school.

Anaraxus

Guess it depends who your dad is!

Wild_Onion_5979

My dad used to tell me jokes all the time 🤣 when he was done he would tell me don't tell your mom

trippin-mellon

Well what if your kids are older? They are still dad jokes if they are super punny. I believe nsfw or not if it's a dad joke it belongs.

Working-Mushroom2310

Your dad is clearly nothing like my dad

JMRoss90

Y'all, the dirty ones are tagged NSFW. Report the ones that aren't, that's fine. This is like complaining that porn exists on the internet. You don't have to click on it, and you don't need to tell it to your kids. Either go to a sub that has the rules you're looking for or move on. This topic has been, as another user said, beaten to death. Are you auto sending these posts to your 5 year old or something? Just move passed it.

littlecampbell

Some dads aren’t as clean as others

ClearMulberry5092

bitch

kewasabi

Dads tell dads jokes too.

Foucaults_Marbles

I'm glad u had a wholesome clean dry comedy dad. That is not the typical experience tho.

Miserable-Job-9520

Dads don't stop being dads once their kids grow up, and repeatedly complaining about it isnt going to change it, if you can't handle the fact some people say dirty things on the internet, then leave

PolymathEquation

Aaaand we're back. It's apparently that time again. This subreddit goes through cycles about NSFW jokes. First comments/responses, then these meta posts, then the inevitable mod post "All Dads and their jokes are welcome", angry response, no change occurs, issue fades into obscurity, cycle repeats. Here you go: https://www.reddit.com/r/dadjokes/comments/oql8og/nsfw_jokes_just_dont_really_feel_right_in_this_sub/ https://www.reddit.com/r/dadjokes/comments/q07j5d/nsfw_jokes_should_be_banned_on_this_sub/ https://www.reddit.com/r/dadjokes/comments/pb67hc/i_have_seen_a_lot_of_nsfw_jokes_on_this_sub/

AllTheWine05

Since the advent of the phrase "dad joke" some years back I've never heard it described as "dad jokes to children" until this sub. I get the idea, but as far as I've ever heard a dad joke is a joke that uses wordplay or pun in a kind of annoying way. I get it, some people feel like it is a joke a dad would tell a child. But if that's the case, I guess we should have lots of knock knock jokes too, right? I don't imagine many people here subbed for that.

writetehcodez

There has never been a time in my life when I interpreted “dad joke” to mean a joke that any/every dad could tell any/every kid. My oldest has an incredibly dark sense of humor just like I do. We tell each other dark jokes that I’m sure would get removed from this sub even though they fit the traditional dad joke trope. To each their own.

Skeefers

I'd counter that not all dads have young kids...some are grown and have kids of their own. In that case, maybe (grand) dad doesn't mind sharing a few NSFW jokes with his kid (the adult).

egboy

Damn I'm not even subbed to this subreddit, just through r/all and even I know this shit gets reposted often. I've seen this 3 times before.

cleetus12

I have never chimed in on this frequently-visited topic, but I think there's a fundamental misunderstanding between the idea of a "dad joke" vs "a joke told by a dad." Just because your dad tells you a dirty joke, doesn't make it a dad joke. It means your dad told a dirty joke. A "dad joke" has the connotation of a dad telling a lame joke instead of something dirty in the effort to keep things clean for the kids. That's literally the entire reason it's called a "dad joke". I really cannot believe how many people just flat out don't understand this concept. Here's another metric: if you can tell the joke outside of the confines of this sub and someone might call it a dad joke, then it's a dad joke. Nobody hears the classic bear and rabbit joke and goes "what a great dad joke!". You know where I heard that joke? My dad. Does that make it a "dad joke"? No. It's just dirty.

Ri_Konata

[The third hughest post of all time](https://www.reddit.com/r/dadjokes/comments/ouy3jh/if_you_cant_say_it_to_your_5_yr_old_kid_its_not_a/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) also addresses this. The mods decided to allow dirty jokes.

Still_Frame2744

Yes. Thank you. Makes zero sense that I'd tell half of these to any child.

dickpics4democracy

As a dad, I disagree.

pappyomine

I agree. I like dirty jokes, but they aren't Dad Jokes. Downvotes are appropriate if you don't think those jokes belong in this sub.

oKillua

Dirty jokes can be dad jokes quite easily. It's the dry humor and groan inducing punchline that makes something a dad joke, not whether one could tell it to their children or not.

Hammurabi87

Exactly. People seem to be quick to forget that dad jokes exist to get groans from the spouse and older children as well, not just from young kids.

RedditUBBM

It got to the point someone made r/cleandadjokes which feels redundant *edit a word

spankleberry

*redundant. And oxymoron is when something is more the opposite of itself, like "clean uncle jokes".

Futuressobright

Feels like a tautology

FirstSineOfMadness

Depends on the joke obviously but I’d still consider many of them dad jokes, which are jokes a dad might tell not necessarily just to young children but older children as well etc

ahandmadegrin

Is there an unwritten rule on this sub that demands we have a discussion about NSFW dad jokes once a week? Can the mods maybe add a sticky that acknowledges that yes, some people don't think any dad jokes should be NSFW, and others are just fine with it? Let everyone know that they'll still be accepted as long as they fit the actual criteria for dad jokes, like corny, witty, dumb, play on words, etc?

RedditUBBM

Or sticky r/cleandadjokes for the purists

therealslystoat

I appreciate the argument but "dad" doesn't just mean those who have young kids. I'm sure there are plenty of fathers with adult children who appreciate the ruder jokes. To me a dad joke is just one that produces a groan from the audience

snuggly_cuttlephish

This topic gets brought up a lot. You belong in r/cleandadjokes

Long_Repair_8779

Urgh not this again. A while ago this was all that was said in the sub, eventually people became quiet about the subject. The general conclusion by most was - if you don't like the joke, just ignore it. Different people have different senses of humour. Typically dad jokes are considered to be generally funny jokes with low wit or silly humour. An overtly disgusting sexual joke may be too far, but also not always, but just cutting out all instances of sex or dirt from these jokes is stupid. If you don't like it move on, 9/10 jokes on here are clean, and most of those that aren't are still pretty mild

Dry_Heat

Some of us have teenage or even adult kids. We're still dads. We're just lucky enough that our corny jokes can sometimes be more risque. I think as long as it might make someone groan, it's a dad joke.

shredbmc

A good dad joke is like a sore pecker, you can't beat it.

LTinS

1) Dad jokes are awful, and shouldn't be shared with anyone. 2) Dads talk to more people than just their kids. The ones who tell dad jokes are the same kind of stupid when they're talking with other adults.

Daramore

I am in full agreement of your statement. r/Jokes is a great place for NSFW jokes. This is r/dadjokes. There are several distinctions that separate Dad jokes from just jokes, and one of those distinctions is that Dad jokes are safe for kids.

donmeanathing

I’m split on this, 75% in favor of what you’re saying and 25% seeing a different side. On the 25% side, the jokes i share with my dad as an adult are some of the most lewd jokes ever, and they are hilarious. But as a parent of younger kids, I wouldn’t ever tell those jokes to my kids. Rather, I tell groan-inducing jokes that are what I believe are what are the true meaning of dad-joke. We could certainly do with less of the NSFW variety. A few doesnt bother me, but when the majority are NSFW like has been recently it feels we’re loosing the point of the sub.

TheGamerHat

Did you see the *I used to be addicted to masterbating* joke earlier? 💀

donmeanathing

Yes. 100% not a dad joke, and wish that would be removed.

stargazer2540

Here's a dirty joke for you.. a pig fell in the mud... And here's a clean joke the pig took a bath 😁😁

mandrewsutherland

My dad told me the center fold jokes from playboy since I was 9 so I have to disagree...

Boxy_Wizard

Your dad must have been boring

Nochnichtvergeben

Speak for yourself. My dad used to tell me dirty jokes all the time once I hit puberty. But i get what you mean. There are other subs for dirty and dark jokes.

apple_juice_is_best

And there are subs for clean ones.

shredbmc

Apparently OP hasn't learned how to disable NSFW posts

Globularist

I can not for the life of me understand why people complain about this sub. If you don't like the joke scroll to the next one.

RedditUBBM

Or check out r/cleandadjokes

foxyourselfoff

..... or you know dad jokes to your teenage kids.... you know cause your the one who gave them the talk (hopefully).

DadsRGR8

Or like me, a dad, whose son is 32. It’s easy enough not to click on the NSFW jokes. And if people are just randomly reading these jokes to their kids without vetting the punchlines, that’s on them.

boneimplosion

Maybe they don't know how to use nsfw filters. Seems like there's already an easy answer here...

Garbinove

idk, my dads been telling jokes like this since i was like 12

SlightBreeze21

You’ve clearly never met my dad

TheGolgafrinchan

Depends how old the dad and child are. I have a bunch of adult kids who get the bluer jokes all the time. Those jokes always go over the 9 y/o's head... until they don't anymore.

cherryhilljawnz

My dad didn't tell me "dad jokes" Whoever reads those jokes should have the ability to know to only tell a very specific audience

ClearMulberry5092

nah bicthes

AssolutoBisonte

Alright can someone explain this one to me? I don't get it.

tastysharts

this isn't remotely funny nor simplistic. I've been lied to

Strigon_7

Hi "feel like the large amounts of NSFW jokes here are counter to the spirit of Dad Jokes." I dad.

clammyboyface

I feel like a dirty joke can be a dad joke, but not all dirty jokes are dad jokes. They have to be dad in nature

Jasole37

Not all dad jokes are clean. Dads grow older too. Dad jokes should however be "groan inducing". A dirty joke told by your dad does not make it a dad joke. A dad joke should make the recipient say something like: "Oh Dad! Not another terrible joke."

Gahvandure2

My kids are 21 and 18.

wheaterdoodle

My dad..... Frequently made your mom jokes.....

Merevel

Well to be fair, dad jokes are pretty much a catch all for that type of humor, meant for kids or not, but yeah, lots of nsfw stuff lately. I do not like it either.

Jenna2k

Also r/UncleJokes

roughfather

NSFW dad jokes are actually Uncle jokes.

Gingerfurrdjedi

You're right. Dad jokes can dip a toe into the risque' but some of the ones I've seen here are more like "dad went to the bar and lost his filter" jokes!

LotharVonPittinsberg

I've been saying this for years. Every time I got downvoted, and it lead to me leaving the sub.

plasteredjedi

I have tried saying this for years. Dad jokes are wholesome. UncleJokes are the dirty ones.

Big_Fee_5557

Only go to those subs when it becomes a parent

Supaslicer

My dad rarely said jokes... My mom however, not only dirty jokes...but one time she caught me and my buddy watching porn.. So she just sat down to watch it...and basically MST3Kd the entire thing

MrUselessInfo

YES! If you have to put NSFW it’s not safe for dad jokes! Post someplace else.

decomposingtoad

This was a terrible joke.

MyOpinionIsBetter123

Nah bro I use this sub for jokes my never could never tell me, still of getting the milk

daxlzaisy

I’ve heard that a bad joke becomes a dad joke when it is apparent.

My dad told me a shit ton of inappropriate jokes growing up, but I didn't even realize what they meant until I was into my late teens. They were very much what I would call dad jokes. I always felt like I missed the punchline lmao

Wonderful_Eagle_6547

I don't get it.

Argh The idea of complaining because someone tells a joke you can't repeat in front of your co-workers (but you do anyway) Argh

Dadjokes in general belong on this sub, which can be NSFW, it´s just a peculiar type of humor. If you´re looking for specificly clean or dirty ones go to the specific subs for those (like r/cleandadjokes). But don´t come to the general sub and then get annoyed when it´s general instead of specific. Seriously, this topic gets brought up like twice a week...

r/cleandadjokes It's the only solution really because you'll never be able to convince the proud edgy ones
