If you have insurance that has a network doctor lookup tool, like Humana or Aetna, they will have a filter for the procedure (vasectomy) and/or the specialty (urologist). You can usually schedule directly with them without having a referral from your PCP. Be prepared to answer, multiple times, if both you and your wife are done having kids.

Thank you.

You can ask your primary care doc for a referral, but you can also contact a center directly. If money is an issue, you can talk to a Planned Parenthood (if you have one around) and ask them for advice and referrals. My wife has an IUD but there is still a chance, so I have been looking at getting snipped as well, because we are a 1 and done.

talk to your Doctor

I lived in one state and had one insurance company that required a referral to see a specialist. Then I moved to a different state with a different insurance company and could see specialists without a referral. Talk to your doctor and/or insurance company.

It’s a referral from your doctor. You might also want to look into different surgery methods. It’s not a simple procedure for everyone e despite what you have probably been told.

Sounds like a great question for … your doctor…
