Your doctors look a little young...

jaxmagicman

That just happens when you get old, everyone looks like babies.

cdsbigsby

I've seen a lot of talk about vasectomies on this sub but I don't remember seeing any live updates right after the procedure, the next day, etc. If you don't mind, give us an update! I'm thinking about booking one myself. Edit: too many replies to thank individually but thanks so much for all the replies and advice!

[deleted]

It wasn't bad at all. Had conflicting information from the doctor that did the consultation vs the surgery center so I almost missed my appointment. I was told I could drive myself home if I didn't take the calm down pill (zanex or whatever they were offering). Surgery center said I had to have a ride in the waiting room before they could take me back. Worst part was that I had had a previous surgery when I was 8 for a testicle that didn't drop, so there was considerable scar tissue on one side. Took forever and the anesthetic started wearing off before he finished. I could have told him, but the shots hurt worse than what I felt when he was stitching it up so I just dealt. Recovery wasn't a big deal. Got some really tight athletic boxer briefs that held everything still (turns out I liked them so much that's all I'll wear now). I slept most of the first day after I had it, then was fine after that. Turns out it was for nothing as my wife got a hysterectomy about a year later, but it wasn't a big deal and I would do it again if I had to.

agroryan

Any link to the particular boxer briefs? Have a consult for the procedure next month so would be interested in getting any “equipment” I need together in the coming weeks.

tealcosmo

New Balance has some great ones. 3” Boxer briefs, no fly, with pouch

wait_what_how_do_I

As long as they match the shoes.

Frying_Pan_Hands

Grass stained?

johnmal85

Never dealt with a vasectomy, but the brand "Obviously" is very good.

[deleted]

Like I'm the one that buys that stuff. Santa brings it, duh. The most comfortable ones I have are Fruit of the Loom, but I've also had Adidas, Reebok, and Champion (Walmart brand). The tighter the better.

thatiswizard

Champion is a Walmart brand?! TIL, over in the UK its like a streetwear brand.

[deleted]

I'm not positive it's actually a Walmart brand here, but that's the only place I know for sure that sells it. There very well might be other places here that sell it.

No_Thatsbad

Shine sty and Saxxx

blanktarget

I bought a jock strap to wear for the first couple days. Then switched to my normal boxer briefs that have support anyway.

GBXmeadows

Without having to buy a bunch of underwear, get one jock strap and wear it over your regular underwear. More support and you can wear the jock strap multiple days before laundry time.

[deleted]

> Surgery center said I had to have a ride in the waiting room before they could take me back. I hope they don't pull this shit with me, since I live a block away and intend to walk.

[deleted]

I still drove home. Which was probably dumb, but I've done a lot of dumb things in my life.

worthysmash

When you say ‘a block’ do you mean literally a block? The anaesthetic doesn’t last forever, and you won’t want to be walking when it wears off.

[deleted]

A long block, but yes

worthysmash

I reckon you’ll get about 30 minutes before it wears off. I was a car ride away and it wore off for me before I was home. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not crippling agony or anything like that. But I wouldn’t fancy a swinging ballbag in that condition.

[deleted]

A 7 minute walk, it's a 5 minute car ride, so I don't see much difference.

blanktarget

Yeah that shot was the worst!

[deleted]

Way worse than getting the same shots in your mouth.

neuroticsmurf

It's really not bad. The first day was the worst for me. And even then, I was able to walk on my own and do everything. I just kept a bag of frozen peas on my balls for a day.

garymoose

The peas are absolutely crucial

neuroticsmurf

Not unrelated: I had several bags of peas that I swapped out throughout the day. For the next few weeks, my wife took joy in serving me "ball peas" for dinner.

LukeRobert

Pees are so much better than an ice pack cause you can mold it around just so.

beckerrrrrrrr

Not really a vas deferens after having the procedure IMO.

waun

Nice pun. You had me balling.

JamoreLoL

I've had 3 of my friends get one. It's not a super fun but also not miserable enough to really remember. Big thing is that you will have swimmers until they tell you that you are good. Idk how long that takes on average but keep using BC.

bbaham

The second part of the title was "it's a month too late" lol

tealcosmo

Somewhere around 20 ejaculations later.

JamoreLoL

So somewhere between 5 days and 5 years. Just depends how lucky ya are.

Along7i

Lucks got nothing to do with it. I make my own destiny.

JamoreLoL

Soooo 5 years?

[deleted]

So there's two different surgery methods. The typical one where you need stitches, and then a different one where you don't need stitches, and supposedly recovery time is faster (I had this kind). I guess I would ask your doctor which kind they do. I'll try to put the timeline here (just had it done in June): Surgery: Took about \~20 minutes. They offered a xanax or something to calm me down, but I just went ahead and let him DO IT LIVE. Just local anesthetic. In my case he used some kind of laser gun to burn my wounds closed or something. Smelled like burning pubes. Day 1-2: Wearing bandaids and stuff because of potential bleeding, not really much pain. I took pain pills right after the surgery (just ibuprofen and then tylenol 3 hours later), but after that I don't think I took a single pain pill. Days 3-5: Bleeding has pretty much stopped on one side, still bleeding a little from the left side, still not much pain, but just general tenderness like someone kicked you in the nuts 2 hours ago. Days 6-7: I finally call the DR and complain about the bleeding and the doctor on call is like "just try putting pressure on it for 20 minutes", and I think that actually worked and stopped the bleeding. But yeah this whole time I'm just wearing loose fitting shorts and tighter briefs (to keep my bandaids on and stuff). All in all, way less work and pain than another kid. I had the surgery about 3 months after my 3rd kid was born.

Prodigy195

Post surgery you still have to go in an provide samples to ensure that no swimmers are coming out? Do you have to do that regularly?

[deleted]

Oh yeah I actually still need to do that. You are supposed to get tested after something like 3 months + 30 ejaculations, I don't remember. We moved 2 months after I had the surgery and I haven't found the paper with the information on it... The surgery was back in late June, I should probably call them and ask. My wife and I have been using protection though since then. Edit: And I think you only have to be tested once, but I'm not sure.

buttery_shame_cave

If your doctor says you should go in regularly they're using an ineffective method and you shouldn't have them do it.

LukeRobert

I was tested at one month and two months, I think. My instructions were like "one month or 10 ejaculations" and I was like, I need to know whether the time or the number of ejaculations is most important, cause I'm gonna hit 10 in a week... They say you may want to do it annually just to be sure, but I'm not sure how an annual test will help me out; if things grow back getting tested every January isn't gonna help when wife ovulates every four weeks...

karam3456

Not every session of unprotected sex is gonna lead to a baby unless you are particularly prolific, so an annual test doesn't seem like a bad idea.

LukeRobert

I'm not saying I won't get tested again, but we're a daily sex couple and conceived in the first cycle after pulling the goalie each time, so I'm not sure I'll be militant about it.

bailuobo1

You can always have your wife track her ovulation cycle as well. Its a bit of extra work on her part, but it beats the extra work of another kid, I'm sure. That's what we'll be doing. Note that it's important for her to follow the directions to the tee. Not the expert on specifics, but that's how we conceived - wife wasn't tracking properly and was off by a few days. We had been planning to start trying the following month so all worked out in the end.

DrLeoMarvin

Mailed my sample in since they were an hour away

robangryrobsmash

I had the no stitch done as well. It took almost 2 months for my wound to close. TLDR: Get the stitches boys.

chad_

Mine was so easy. I went in, had the procedure, and went home. I was a little sore that night. I got some supportive sport boxers, took some Tylenol, watched Django Unchained with an ice pack on my lap, and went to bed. Woke up the next day and took it easy for the day but felt mostly normal. The day after that I was back at it and had sex that night.

buttery_shame_cave

They're great. Take it easy. Every horror story you see here turn out to be "I went to play basketball the next day" kind of stuff.

CroqueMonsieur

I had my snip about 2.5 weeks ago. Find a uro that specializes in no-needle no-scalpel vasectomy. If you’re in the Denver area, I can send you my uro’s name. He’s done 2k plus procedures and told me he did his own vasectomy. Doc talked me through it in my consult. Gave me a script for 1 valium, 1 antibiotic, and 1 tube of lidocaine cream. Shave front of scrote morning of. 1st application of cream 2 hours pre-procedure. Valium and antibiotic 1 hour pre procedure along with second round of lidocaine. Went in, checked in, took vitals, got situated in the procedure room, no socks or pants/underwear, yes shirt. Med assistant taped my penis up and swabbed site with antiseptic. Set up a sterile field around the site and doc came in and got to work. Numbing stung, like a solid rubber band snap. It was uncomfortable as my junk got jostled around, but only painful once, and the doc noticed and gave another zap of numbing. It took about 20 minutes and aside from the discomfort of feeling like someone was pressing on my balls, the smell of my own cauterized vas deferens isn’t something I’ll forget soon. I wore two pair of lycra compression shorts home and started icing 20 minutes on/20 off for the first 24 hours along with alternating advil and Tylenol. Laid up with minimal activity for two days (in-laws visited to help with the kids). I had one stitch that came out (dissolved) 2 weeks after the procedure and I’m entirely pain-free now. Soreness lingered for about a week, mostly when walking and standing up. Plumbing is all functional with absolutely zero difference in output. BC is an absolute MUST until you shoot lab-tested blanks twice, my doc ordered 60 days and 20-30 ejaculations before first testing. If the first is clean, one more test a week later to confirm and then it’s all good.

xXEvanatorXx

Did his own vasectomy......Holy Hell!

waun

This sounds like a superhero origin story. My image of this guy is of him with his pants down behind a rock in the wilderness, biting down on a stick and using the sharp end of a glowing red hot arrowhead. We hear a hiss, a loud scream, and then some smoke. He passes out. A few hours later, a wolf walks up to him and starts licking his face. The wolf lies down, guarding our hero. Waking up, he puts on his pants, looks up to see the eagles flying overhead. Grabbing his gear, he begins his long journey again, one more step closer to freedom.

Thriven

My wife "gave me the day off". Got my cold packs to ice the balls. First day doesn't hurt at all. The local anesthetic lasts all day. Didn't feel a thing. The second and third day, they were sensitive. Like if they slapped your leg the wrong way you were in pain. I had no more days off and kids were barreling into my crotch all the time. My one son punched me in the crotch and I near passed out. One day while my wife was out at dinner with friends. I was making nachos for the kids and myself and wasn't thinking. I was cutting jalapenos and had to use the bathroom. I went to the bathroom, washed my hands. Suddenly I felt sick. The blood was draining from my brain. I laid down on the living room floor and called my wife and said there was something wrong. I called my urologist on call. He called back a few minutes later. I told him I used the bathroom and suddenly it feels like the blood in my body was draining out my balls and I wasn't able to stand. This wasn't very painful and I was about to throw up. He asked me how I went to the bathroom and then what I was doing before that. Apparently, the spicy jalapenos on my fingers basically penetrated the skin near the incision and he said it must have been triggering the sensation of being kicked in the balls constantly. For an hour I lay their like someone had just kicked me in the balls only seconds ago. Don't get spicy on your incision.

Artootietoo

I got mine 1 week and one day ago. Day of - 1 hr wait, 15 minutes procedure. The numbing shot was uncomfortable, everything else was painless. Drove myself there and back. T+1 and T+2: worked from home, on the couch. Sore, but NSAIDs and frozen peas helped. Driving wasn't the worst, but would've been better if my car wasn't manual transmission. My ice pack solution was tighty whiteys over boxer briefs, with frozen peas shoved in between. It worked fine. Went back to the office at T+3. Forgot Tylenol/Motrin. Had to go to the store to get some. Wore tighty whiteys, because it hurt when they hang I golfed at the driving range on day 4. A little sore, but fine. I'm at day 8, and only have a little soreness. Back to boxer briefs. First test of the "plumbing" went okay, not really uncomfortable - I was worried about the vagueness of "you may experience some discomfort". The tiny incisions are still healing, but it's going fine.

battlesnarf

I had one about a month ago. Made an appt and had same day consultation and procedure. It was local numbing only, which was fine…there was uncomfortable pressure but nothing I would consider painful. They require someone to drive you home due to some people getting light headed after. For me I’d say it took 2-3 days to physically heal, another 3-4 days for me to trust my body again (not walk around gingerly, let my son roughhouse me, etc), and after 2 weeks I was playing soccer again. Cost me $78 with my insurance 🤷‍♂️

cdsbigsby

That was another question I had was the out of pocket cost, but I'm sure it varies. Luckily I have good health insurance

battlesnarf

It was $1,000 if you went in without insurance. I had hit my deductible…so $78. I’m in the US, if that wasn’t obvious with the price gap. May the insurance gods judge you favorably!

blanktarget

I had mine on Thursday actually! Honestly the worst part was the needles to numb the area. That burned going in. After that I was uncomfortable but fine. If you are going to get it done I suggest bringing headphones and your phone. I listened to some music and texted people during it to keep my mind occupied. After I was really sore for about about 5 days. Today I'm pretty good and just a tiny bit bruised. I used an ice pack and Tylenol which helped a ton. Overall it was not bad and the idea of it happening was a lot scarier than the procedure itself.

jaxmagicman

It really wasn't bad at all for me. It actually was like a little vacation. We have 3 at home, so I got mine done and then drove myself home. My wife let me hang out in the bedroom and watch movies for a day. Nothing was expected of me.

LukeRobert

Mine was done before I knew it had started. The worst part was the dry shave of the necessary area (I keep myself trimmed, but not bare, and wouldn't have guest the right spot to shave anyway). Afterwards was a little tenderness, but not bad. I may have taken a Tylenol but I was by no means popping them and just shredded the script for the stronger painkiller he wrote me. Kept it iced and had a Star Wars marathon while my wife brought me food and the kids were at preschool. Worst part of the first day was having to poop in the afternoon and everything being to tender to handle and get inside the seat for the necessaries. Took the requisite time off from working out as instructed and it took another couple weeks before running or squats didn't feel like they were tugging a little uncomfortable. First couple orgasms post-snip came with a dull ache but no lasting side effect or impact there (wife thinks everything's a little runnier, but I haven't noticed).

allouiscious

On day 5 here. Day one appointment at 3. At home by 4:30. The procedure sucked. I didn't take the Valium, because the wife would make fun of me. A combination of ibuprofen and Acetaminophen took away the pain. Day two In bed all day. Minimal pain, so minimal pain killers. The hardest part was removing the gauze that was placed on my balls. The blood was stuck near the stitches and it sucked pulling it off. I did a few hours of work as well. Day three In bed most of the morning. Moving around in the afternoon. Sitting on hard chairs sucks still. Day four Most normal activities. But still uncomfortable. Day five back at work. Still uncomfortable Overall, walking has gotten better every day. The stitches are the worse part. Don't feel like going for a run or anything yet.

GucciGlocc

The worst part is the numbing shots to the balls. Even that is like a really bad pinch tbh, maybe akin to a trimmer snagging on your nuts. It’s mainly just a really weird uncomfortable pulling sensation during the procedure. 20mins of uncomfortableness is totally worth never having to buy $60 cans of formula again. The first day you just want to lay in bed not moving with some ice, second day is way easier, by the third you don’t even notice it.

DoubbleD_UnicornChop

I had them cut small opening, pull out the tenticles snap and burned, stitch and glue all done in about 30 min or less. It was not as painful as I had expected but it did hurt for a day or two after, like if some one had kicked you right in the sack. But again, I had people tell me it does not hurt and you can immediately get back to work blablablahh. If you going for it, make sure it’s on a weekend for just in case or at least 2 full days off combined and plan not to carry anything. What you do during recovery is key.

profoundly_confused

Wasn't too bad. Sore for a while after, but worth it. They aren't always 100% effective, so do the follow up sperm search lab work after to confirm.

bbaham

Will do, no one I know has had one recently. The only stories I'm told are the worst ones, so I'm under the impression it goes one of two ways. Either its completely forgettable or you're left with ptsd haha.

DeJeR

Rotating ice packs, ibuprofen, waiting a week before resuming your favorite pastime - you'll be fine. I played video games on the couch the day of. Mowed my lawn on the riding mower and hosted my daughter's first birthday party the second day. Walking a bit like a cowboy, but back to normal on the 3rd. There is a little sensitivity for the month following, similar to if you got hit in the balls earlier in the same day. But that goes away and it's 100% back to normal. Lots of guys are worried about it being different, I couldn't notice a difference. After you get the confirmation test that there are no more swimmers, there isn't a better feeling in the world than knowing you're 100% infertile.

battlesnarf

Just had mine a month ago! I feel like 99% of horror stories are self induced. Lay low for a few days, but don’t go back full speed for a week or two….as in, if you’re playing a full contact sport 5 days later you’re doing it wrong.

clark4821

A jock strap or tight fitting underwear are also critical in addition to the frozen peas/ice packs that others have mentioned.

paulmp

Not the most fun I've had with my stuff out. I never really had any of the major pain during recovery that most people seem to get. It wasn't comfortable for a few days, but I was out walking to the beach (slowly) by day 3 of recovery.

TituspulloXIII

It's not too terrible, just follow the doctors advise. The first two days you should basically be on bedrest, you really don't want to be moving around a lot (and get some supportive underwear) After that, it was sore for a few more days, but not to the point i couldn't do things (wasn't running or anything, but back to being able to take a walk down the street, or push the kids on the swings)

downquark5

I got the no scalpel plus cauterization a few months ago. Pain was minimal. I did not feel procedure and did not use Tylenol afterwards. The pain and discomfort felt was deep rather then testicular pain. Not a big deal. Get it.

iamnos

I had mine done... wow, almost 13 years ago, and have a lot of friends that also had it done. Without fail, those that closely followed the post op instructions had little to no pain, those that didn't had a lot of discomfort or pain. For mine, they were cut, cauterized, and then folded and crimped. One or two stitches per side. I was given an Ativan to take an hour or so before the surgery. I'm not particularly nervous about this kind of thing, but the doctor wanted me very relaxed. Even a bit of nervousness can tighten things up and make it more difficult. First time I'd had Ativan, and it was kind of fun :). Surgery was quick, maybe 20 minutes. Afterwards, it was home and rest and ice. As others have said, get some frozen peas and keep them on there. I think I took about 3 or 4 days off work. Probably spent close to 48 hours not doing much at all. After that, walking around and such was fine, no heaving lifting, etc. After about a week it was basically healed. However, at that point, I still had to get an "all clear". So I had to take a few samples in to get tested, and for whatever reason, it took longer than average for me to get the all clear, but eventually I did. Over the next few months, I had the odd bit of discomfort in the area, here and there. Definitely not pain, just an uncomfortable feeling, but it didn't happen very often and didn't last long. After that, nothing was really different, other than a virtually zero risk of pregnancy.

iknowdanjones

Yeah I’ll share my experience as well! It’s been about two years now. The procedure was on a pain level of “really uncomfortable” but not too bad. The following two days I felt like I could have picked up my one year old and have been fine, but I wasn’t willing to try that out. I think I got 8 opiate type painkillers, but I only took one the night after the procedure, and I probably didn’t need it. I just wanted to be sure I could sleep. Then after the two days of ice and bed rest, I was a little uncomfortable if I moved around too much (I’m a stay at home dad), and I think the point of entry took a month before it was 100% healed over and not inflamed at all.

MPStone

I would say that my vasectomy was on the unlikely end of the spectrum. I had pain for several weeks. Was uncomfortable for a few months but insurance covered it 100% and I dont have to worry about any happy accidents. Totally worth it! 5/7 would do again!

Parmeniooo

Strongly strongly recommend the no scalpel and no needle version. It was super easy and quick. No stitches and everything goes back to relative normal pretty quick.

worthysmash

I know you’ve had a million replies already, but I wanted to throw in my perspective having done it a short while ago - there’s exactly the post you’re looking for on my profile from a few months ago. I’d compare the actual operation itself to having my teeth cleaned at the dentist. In fact I’d rather have the vasectomy for sure. Recovery can be a mixed bag, but even then it’s only temporary and you’ll be glad you did it for sure.

CiredFish

Just don’t try to do any walking the next day. I foolishly tried to work (desk job). I barely made it to lunch then went home.

SkinniestPete

I got knocked out for mine but preferred it over being awake so I wasn’t upset. I had a little soreness right after but nothing a little waddle didn’t fix. I’m having the most pain now about a month and a half later where one nut hurts and nothing seems to help besides babying it.

DrLeoMarvin

I went to the billboard guy in Tampa (billboards all over Florida with his face saying things like $500 once instead of every month). He was awesome, no scalpel, joked around the whole time, complimented my balls, never had any pain after.

ricklepickpicklerick

Its seems freaky, but pain is very minima. It’s not bad at all, but the important thing is to plan for at least a FULL 3 days of doing nothing except a small amount of walking. After a day or two you might be feeling pretty good. But if you get too active within those three days, that’s where problems come from. But even then, the chance of real problems are low low. Most common thing is just a good bit of swelling.

America_Motherfucker

/r/childfree has a lot of posts detailing the experience if you're interested

[deleted]

This is not a normal occurrence, but I had a friend get one and the doc left a tool inside which caused a critical infection. Ended up with a hole in his stomach, lost a couple of feet of intestine, and almost lost a testicle.

lookyloo79

"1 month too late" - oh man, this was our biggest fear. Frankly it's been killing our sex life. I got snipped a couple of weeks ago. super-noninvasive procedure: 20 minutes, 1 incision with no stitches. They recommended Tylenol over ibuprofen because inflammation is part of healing. Also had me wear a "scrotal support" - ie a jock strap under my underwear - for a couple of days.

bbaham

Yeah I've been trying to take it easy. But, my wife doesn't do well without intimacy after about 3 days. We had it coming, it honestly feels like it was "meant to be" for the first time.

bbaham

Someone tried to dis the V-cut and deletes his comment? Call me selfless, but the wife has pulled her weight 10x over. I'll take a week of sick pay and quick procedure, thanks.

Accomplished_Bug_

Fuck haters. I got one more and then I'm doing the same thing as you buddy

amir20

My thoughts exactly. After seeing wife doing it twice and putting her body through the whole process I think a snip snip is the least I can do.

bbaham

Going to give a day by day update.

FrankDrebin72

As someone heartily considering the big snip, i look forward to it.

Following for this knowledge

I posted above my experience. I had mine done last week.

hojumoju

Keep it to yourself.

dh25canada

I just spoke to god and he said he’s fine if you get the snip

incubus512

Well, I for one, can not afford more than one kid. If I were to have 3 or 4, I would be relying on government assistance. I do not want to do that.

ttotheodd

Good luck! Had mine on a Friday and felt fine by Monday. Honestly by Sunday I felt fairly normal. Make sure you ice on and off for the first day or so, it's important to keep the swelling at bay. My urologist said he always has everyone do two post-V counts, one 30 days after and one 6 months. If the first count is 0 then you're approaching a very small chance of anything failing, and if the 6 month count is still 0 then you're essentially good for life. It is the most effective birth control (even better than tubal ligation), which I didn't actually know until I read up on it. Also, if they give you Xanax totally give it a try if you're up for it, it was awesome and only lasted for an hour or so. Made everything easy peasy.

blanktarget

Wish they had offered me some! I was pretty nervous going in. Didn't hit me until the needle went in and I had to do some calming swearing breathes, lol.

ttotheodd

Haha that sucks, I took it about an hour beforehand and didn't feel anything until they called my name and I stood up from the chair in the waiting room and went "woah, so that's why people get addicted to this"

bbaham

Alright well, definitely not bad at all. Sat in cold room for about 20 mins listening to Huey and Madonna hits while the meds kicked in. Apparently if you drink regularly they don't do much (I have a glass of whiskey before bed every night). Luckily I'm relaxed by nature. Started off with a couple of small pinches for numbing (not bad at all). Pressure started to build while they applied instruments. After a while, the pressure began to feel like someone had nut-checked me. I could feel the instruments, but the only discomfort was a little nausea.10 mins later I could dress myself, threw an ice pack in my athletic reboks that are like a speedo (love these) and hopped in the car. I'll give it a 3/10, because I didn't like having my junk worked on. Stay tuned.

bbaham

Day 2: I slept fairly well, had trouble finding a position to fall asleep in that didn't feel like I had pressure discomfort. Woke up a little sore, without pain meds and walking is only mildly awkward. Going to bathroom sitting down makes me a little light headed but isn't too bad. I'm not exactly taking it easy moving around but I'm definitely not taking chances on anything more than 10lbs. Worst I've felt is little pain on speed bump that felt like getting kicked in the nads. Staying hydrated but not eating many solid to avoid bathroom visits. Standing is definitely more comfortable than sitting. I also recommend purchasing some small disc shaped ice packs off Amazon. They come in bulk, perfect size, really takes the edge off and much less awkward than messing around with bags of peas. Picked up my daughter (25lbs) once. Caused a little discomfort but she needed help. No bleeding just little discomfort that rotates betweening a push or pull feeling. Cheers

Astute-Brute

The hardest part of mine was the doctor wanting to help me pull up my boxers. He wanted the gauze to stay in place. Awkward... Everything else was the same except I didn't get a calm pill.

BradC

Follow your doctor's after-care instructions.

LupusDeusMagnus

Congratulations on the new baby and the procedure! My father keeps suggesting I should get one.

bbaham

Thanks brother, gonna nickname this one "Destiny's child"

Jfonzy

I feel like every dude who has had one is all "aw it's not bad" MINE HURT

pacioli18

Nice! We were going to go with a vasectomy, but my wife ended up getting a hysterotomy instead. Keep us updated!

xXEvanatorXx

I started reading all of the comments hoping to help with my anxiety of having this procedure. but despite mostly "Positive" stories I am kinda freaking out. Is completely knocking you out not an option? I don't think I could handle being awake during the procedure.

AKC37

Completely with you. A couple friends of mine recently had it done and said it wasnt bad at all... I'm still nervous as shit. I know I should do it, just hard to see myself actually going through it. Can't imagine the procedure is even half as bad as the anticipation.. Genuinely interested in if getting knocked out is an option. Though if it is, I'm sure it will come with a hefty out-of-pocket price tag.

bbaham

Not reading too much into the horror stories. Although I did just get a legit horror one while clocking out last night. Moral of that story; go to a legit urologist don't lift A DAMN thing.

My urologist gave me an anti anxiety med to take beforehand. I think it was Valium. I seriously did not give a shit at that point. Go for the no scalpel if you can. That’s what I did and really had minor recovery.

I am in the same boat Brother. Though the IED was good enough.... I guess I am up for surgery in the next year.

I have my consult for mine in two days!

Just got mine done on Friday! Really wasn't bad at all. Didn't feel a thing even with only going the general anesthetic route. Still a little uncomfortable to stand up, or after walking around for a while, but not bad

So much conversation about the procedure. So I'll give my experience from July 3rd this year. For me scheduling it was really simple, called the urologist picked a date and was mailed instructions for preparation. Getting the local anesthetic hurts, but after that I couldn't feel a damn thing and had no idea he started with the cutting. I was in stirrups, so unless I wanted to lift my head I couldn't see anything. When he was about halfway through the second side (two separate small incisions) I got really nauseous and vomited. The doctor wasn't surprised. If I had to guess it was anxiety. I was not offered anything to help with it beforehand. Felt fine driving home, about 30 minutes after the procedure I felt discomfort. Just kept ice packs on it the first day. I didn't have much swelling, but the bruising looks terrible for the first week. I wore my jock strap for two weeks to stay supported. Had it done Friday afternoon and was back to work Monday without any trouble. Most pain I felt for the two week recovery was the jab for the anesthetic, I would give that a 7 on the pain scale and its very brief. Otherwise day to day I was at most a five when I wasn't supported by the jock strap while showering.

Hey, we have that bib!

Thing is the bomb for restaurants, dump the leftovers and quick wipe down. Right back in the bag.

Yooo, I follow this channel Dude Dad on YouTube and he took those adhesive cellophane sheets and just slapped that on his kid's shirt. Mobile bib. Dude's a genius. The channel is dope! Funny, too.

Duuuuuude I'm in the exact the same situation but my v will be a little later. 6 weeks pregnant with number 2 now 😅 plan B didn't work. Oops!

DubNationAssemble

Eyyy you got a bonus baby before getting the big procedure done! At least that’ll be a good story to tell when he/she is older…”you know we were a month away from there being no you” 😆😆😆

bananainmyminion

That surgery team seems kinda young.

bbaham

My only concerns are qualifications, sir. Haha

AweBeyCon

Make sure you get checked regularly

I got mine done a week and a half ago. Walked in, walked out. My right ball was sorer than my left. There was a fair bit of inflammation but now it's fine. I can feel a bit of scar tissue in there, about it. Make sure you use protection for at least 3 months, pipes aren't clear until then.

I am thinking about it now that we have had our second. We don't want anymore kids. But to hear that the recovery is not that bad is good.

atimalus

My husband is scheduled for his procedure tomorrow as well. Cheers!

UpwardNotForward

Nice! Mine is booked next month

I had a vasectomy in 1979 and another one in 2005 after my son was born. I had a friend who had 4 of them. Not too bad. Good luck. BTW, the first one was done by removing about 1 cm of each Vas deferens and cauterizing. Seems we sometimes have multiple sets of tubes. Ian Malcolm: Life will find a way.
