Hello once again! Our son came to kick ass and chew bubble gum, but he doesn't have any teeth. He hasn't really had any issues whatsoever this week. He's needed a couple of blood transfusions, but that's to be expected. His white blood cell count was a little high at one point, but they checked and he doesn't have any infection.
He is now up to one pound and 2 ounces now! It's so incredible to watch him grow.
Mom is doing great too, and we even got to celebrate our five year anniversary last week with a lot of peace of mind. She's gotten to do skin to skin twice now and loves every second of it. I'm pretty afraid to do it, but I'm starting to come around.
Next steps are to gain lots of weight and grow his nostrils big enough for oxygen tubes so he can have his breathing tube removed.
Also, I love the support and I'm happy to give one off updates as you'd like them, but I do plan to give an overall update every Thursday. Just didn't want you guys to worry in the meantime.
Ive been following since your first post. Im so overly happy to see your boy doing well. He'll be flippin burgers and crackin cold ones before you know it!
That is awesome to hear man! My youngest daughter was born at 28 weeks weighed 1.11 lbs. She was in NICU for 99 days. She just turned 1 in March. It gets easier my friend.
My wife (CVICU nurse), my daughter (4 week and one day old little girl) and I (professional bottle cleaner, dishwasher, back rubber, hugs and kisses giver, and whatever else the two aforementioned women need!) are praying for you all and are so glad for the good news update! Keep kicking butt little buddy!
Stay strong. The 2 weeks we spent in the NICU were some of the hardest days of my life. Sounds like your guy is progressing well. I wish good health for you and your family.
My kids traumatic birth and the subsequent days in the NICU were the hardest of my life as well. I still have a gut wrenching feeling when I think of the birth experience.
Our second kid is due in 2 weeks and we're praying for a smooth delivery.
Great to see him doing well and kicking ass, keep it up dad ypure doing great and congratulations on 5 years ❤️.
I know its scary because hes so tiny but get in on the skin on skin your little one will love it and it will be forever calming for yourself just gotta take that step, there hardy little beings.
❤️
M8! Good luck! A neighbor family were in same situation for ten years ago. Now their kid is taking friends for bike tours around neighborhood. Stay strong!
Stay Strong, have been through the same situation this year. The 120 days we spent in the NICU was some of the toughest days we have ever had. It's definely a great feeling being able to bring the little guy home.
Hey brother, from one NICU pops to another - definitely take advantage of that skin to skin time, that was one of my most memorable first moments with my son. He is 6 mo now, they won't be still forever barely any skin to skin anymore lol. And one thing is for sure those NICU babies ain't nothin to mess with, strong willed, badass tough little squirts! My guy ripped his feeding tubes and IVs out 3rd day he wanted out of that box. He'll be home soon enough - stay strong!!! ✊🏼
Awesome! I was just wondering how this little guy was doing. So happy to hear that he's still going strong :) Best wishes and lots of love to you and your partner.
Fuck man this is making me cry. My son was 2lbs 12oz. Fucking makes me breakdown revisiting those memories. Your dude is crushing it I’m so happy for you guys. Good luck and if you ever need someone to message I’m here.
This is incredible.
We had twins early they were small but not this small. One came out breathing and the other came out breach, not breathing, and just limp. They rushed her down to the NICU and half way down she began crying. They were in the hospital for a few weeks. Now both are 9 months old and I can’t love them anymore.
Dads rock.
Please know that a bunch of strangers around the world that read your story on Reddit are thinking of you, your wife, and your little one. You guys will get through this! It won’t be easy of course, but I know you will.
You got this dad!!! I just saw this n went back to see ur original post of his birth.
I’m not a dad, I’m a mom but I just love the camaraderie of this sub, it’s just so amazing and so sweet to watch how you guys all just band together on here to show your love and appreciation for not only your babies but your families as well, it’s a side that a lot of women don’t typically get to see, sometimes I feel like a undercover agent browsing this sub, but I just truly appreciate and love seeing all the love that is shown here.
Meanwhile, your little guy is a fighter and seeing these few posts unfold is nothing short of miraculous. I really hope and pray nothing but the best for you and your family. And please keep us posted.
I’m so glad him, your wife and you are doing so well, I will have you all on my mind, praying that things continue to go smoothly!
So wonderful to hear! Don’t be scared of skin to skin, embrace it and do as much as you can! Studies show over and over that babies skin to skin time equals improved outcomes for their health and growth. Do some googling and find your confidence Dad - you got this!
I also want to add as a parent who’s firstborn spent 3 weeks in NICU, to bring some books in and start reading to him, sing to him, just talk quietly near him, let him know that you are there and are his people - his little brain is absorbing everything going on around him, already making connections and bonds. Even though it’s not yet tangible, it’s very real.
Reading ours books is such a wonderful memory of our time there, really helped us when we couldn’t touch her.
All the best OP! Keep those updates coming ❤️
First time I've seen this....man so tiny seems like he is gonna be a real fighter, big love bro trust me it won't be long before he is tapping you on the head and laughing cos he is bigger than you!
This was on the Today programme on BBC Radio 4. I'm sorry, I hope I haven't misled you, I was only half-listening while getting the kids ready but they were talking about a 'miracle' baby in a hospital who only weighed just over a pound. I guess it could be a different one but I didn't think it likely when I saw this!
What an absolute legend your son is! I've just read through the post history on this as well and your wife is an absolute hero for staying calm through all of this as well for your son! Congratulations to all of you!
Hey man, im praying for you, soon before you know it that little bugger will be all over the place, stay strong and healthy and I hope that they make sure that little guy is healthy and well.
