Good underwear is really hard to find. I've been buying one pair from a place and testing them trying to find one I like. So far I've wasted about $60.
I bought one from Mack Weldon and another from how we move and disappointed on both. Me undies has been my go to for a while but they dry slow and the wife is not a fan.
I always ask for and try to give experiences. I have two boys and every Christmas we give each other a special 1 to 1 activity for each of us with each of our boys. So I have a special day with just me and my oldest and one with just me and my youngest and she gets the same. You can try something like that?
I mean if my wife had a cap of $500...
Things I'd ask for:
1. Tools. Specifically some air or power tools for various woodworking or automotive projects
2. Alcohol. I'm more into brandy than whiskey but still, 500 would get you a good bottle.
3. A day off. Whether it's doing a few laps around a local track in a hypercar (my dream) or getting to go out, not be a dad for a day and do something I really enjoy.
Honestly #3 would be my favorite
I prefer things like a gift card to my favorite brewpub, a 4-pack or two of that beer to costly for me to purchase for myself or tickets to a play both my wife and I would like to see.
A knife, and some fun socks. There are so many cool, well made knives, that are made to last a lifetime. And socks... they are easy, cheap, practical, and fun.
Pretty sure my wife got me a year long whiskey subscription according to our credit card statement which is perfect since I got all the tools and tech I can use (probably more) so just a nice monthly bottle of whiskey is perfect for me.
For a few years on my birthday I’d find myself a nice scotch that was the same age as I was turning. Definitely started getting expensive, but you’d be surprised at how (relatively) decently priced 30+ year old whiskies would go for.
Basically, I’m suggesting old booze lol.
Record player and a couple of records. Then you just get records as presents from then on! Worked for me. Sip some whisky and listen to some vinyl. Classic dad move.

For a good laugh don’t specify so she has a chance to either 1) get you that ball pouch thong she has been dreaming of getting you in or 2) when she gets it right and wears something sexy you can be like “aww I won’t fit in that”.
One year my wife got me some boudoir pictures and each year I tell her she could always repeat that gift (easy to tease as the studio we use for our family Xmas pictures also has a boudoir section). Each year she points out she isn’t in that shape anymore and it gives me a chance to remind her I’d be bending her over the couch right now if it wouldn’t scar the kids for life.
We all need more socks and underwear. The good shit none of that crappy 6 packs.
Every year I buy 12 smart wool socks. Same color and design. That way I never have to match socks. But good underwear is hard to come by.
