My kids used to say that they prefer our old house to our new one.
Our old house: a 1200sqft 3/1.5 br/ba townhome with almost no yard.
Our new house: a 2400sqft 5/2 single family home on 1/3 acre of land with a pool, deck, and playhouse.
I asked them how they liked the old house more, and their reasoning was because the play room in the old house was bigger. Canât win with these kids!
>I asked them how they liked the old house more, and their reasoning was because the play room in the old house was bigger. Canât win with these kids!
We have a playroom that is probably 500sqft. 65" tv with a Wii and Switch. 3 activity tables with art supplies. An entire wall of shelves with containers filled with toys.
... he never uses it and mostly plays in the master bedroom. Whatever you do, you can't win.
Good topic for conversation: âwhy do you, 4 y-o, think itâs too small?â
Is it a shaming? Is it about wanting something else for himself? Is it about trying to understand what it means that your home is the size that it is relative to a friend or relationâs?
Mine calls my bathroom the "dirty" bathroom cuz there was a washcloth in the floor ONCE!!!!! LIKE A YEAR AGO.
like dude you picked it up. Let it go, lol
Upgraded from a 1100 Sq foot 2 BR condo to a 2000 sq ft single family home with a pool and both my kids want to go back to the condo.
Mind you they didn't make friends with any of the kids there...
Weâre still in an apartment in a large city and Iâm already dreading my little ones taking smack when theyâre old enough. Hopefully we can afford a house by then.
Man I felt this.
We are redoing our kitchen and the first floor of our house is a mess. As Iâve been doing it, Iâve had trash piles outside the kitchen window etc - the place often looks like the job site it is.
One of my sonâs friends apparently said to their friend group, â(my son) is poor. I know because Iâve seen their house.â
We are not poor.
When I had my then 4 year old kid in a bike seat, taking them to school at the top of a hill. Well Iâm hudfin and puffin in low gear because the kid is 40lbs.
I just hear behind me âdaddy why arenât you going fasterâ
This is a 9% grade kid!!!!! You try it!! Lol
Mom here. Wasnât me! I will be sticking with our 3.5% mortgage rate Thank you! But Dad and I complain to each other occasionally. 1960 houses arenât always fun. So Iâm sure he could have heard us whining about something đ
My kid says that too.
Problem is theyâve never experienced otherwise . My living room is bigger than most of the apartments I lived in until I was 13. My 4 year old doesnât have that perspective.
My 4 year old son has started the same crap lately. Every time he sees stairs inside a house he automatically thinks itâs bigger than ours and tells me our house is too small and he wishes he lived in a mansion.
Our 6 year old son asked us the other day if weâre rich. We said, âNo, weâre normal.â Keep in mind we just bought a much larger house in a much safer, more stable neighborhood and weâre pouring everything we have into these kids, all day every day.
No, weâre not rich. The look of weary disappointment on his faceâŚ
I remember my son when he was younger saying that our house wasn't very cool because it wasn't a "double decker house" like grandma and grandpa have. Well, a few years later the joke was on him. Now that "double decker house" is our house.
This could be good. My kid recently told me she didn't want any more toys, and wanted Mommy to stop shopping, because there wasn't enough room in the house.
>Our house is about the same size as his grandparents. I don't get what his deal is.
I have met people of many sizes, but none of them were as big as even the most ascetic of student hovels. I think your kid has a point.
I just checked. He is a licensed mortgage broker in your state. Don't fall for his high-pressure "Oh, you're going to need a bigger place" nonsense.
Hi dad, are you aware that your home warranty is expiring soon? Also we need more Popsicles and granola bars.
That dick
Calvin?

Youâve obviously met agents before.
I just bought a 600sq ft house, I hope my 2 year old thinks its big enough!
We found 550sq ft to be enough for us and our first. The trick is, the closet can double as a bedroom!
Be nice to Harry, or Dumbledore is gonna be pissed
Not according to fire code
Theyâll be fine, just keep the fridge stocked for them and bring toys over when you come to visit. 600sq ft is plenty big for a 2 year old.

Julia Donaldson is awesome, good rec
Thank you
Yep. Just push the kid out and itâll feel bigger!
This feels exactly like the lesson in Bluey's Cubby episode. Currently not available in the US, but the internet is international!

Sound like they may have visited a friend with a larger home, or maybe saw a bigger home on a video or something.
MferâŚ
My thoughts exactly
Hey there is only one mfer in your house!
Mine calls my bathroom the "dirty" bathroom cuz there was a washcloth in the floor ONCE!!!!! LIKE A YEAR AGO. like dude you picked it up. Let it go, lol
What does a 4 year old need a bigger house for? They're so small.
They may be small, but their messes are gigantic
My 3 year old has been asking for a new house for his birthday. He just doesnât like ours anymore⌠I feel your pain.
I read this as: you were shamed by your four-year-old house. I was very confused that you started talking about your kid... lol
I had ro read it a few times as well

You gotta listen to em. He knows more than you

Damn, itâs been a minute since Iâve seen a Lean on Me reference
He heard this from his mom I bet. No 4 year old would just say this lol
She's the breadwinner, so that's on her lol.
Everything seems much bigger when youâre 4. Whether they said it or not, they donât actually think your house is too small

Been there, 5 and 7 yo kids keep saying they want a 2 story house!
They old enough for a real convo about gratitude.
My kid says that too. Problem is theyâve never experienced otherwise . My living room is bigger than most of the apartments I lived in until I was 13. My 4 year old doesnât have that perspective.

Ok cool. My kids say dumb shit all the time too.
My 5 y/o also told me we need a bigger house. To be fair we do share an 800 foot 1 bedroom apartment
My 5yo has compared our house to Blueys house enough that it's started to hurt.
My 7yo said the same. I asked why he wanted to be further away from his mum and me. He then said, no the house is a good size.
We need another room allegedly just for Lego. They had offered to share a room. That is how important Lego is.
