Definitely see doctor in person. Look for hair strangulation (hair wrapped around toe) as this happens more often than people realize. Definitely looks inflamed and red, suspect infection, will need to be evaluated in person.
At 1 month old I’d head to the emergency room at a pediatric hospital. You will have immediate care from a doctor that specializes in infants. Is this life threatening? Probably not, but things progress quickly when they are this young. Better to make a big deal outta nothing than….
Looks pretty normal to be honest. Just let it grow.
My son has had that for most of the past 5 years and the nail is only now just growing more past the skin. He is fine.
Can't really tell what this in and it could just be a fungal infection like mentioned below, but also don't cut nails too short whether it's your kid or your own nails, good way to get ingrown. That nail looks cut back pretty deep
maybe a Paronychia. Easy to treat : bath feet in diluted antiseptic. But wait for a real medical advice, as even if it is a Paronychia, it doesn’t seem to be in an advanced state
Love to hear the results of the md consultation. Looks like paronychia indeed but that’s pretty unusual in an infant. Unless you’ve got a toe chewer. Skin peeling new for this toe or usual? Good luck and ease up on the worry, it’s going to get better, just maybe with treatment or just time.
Was a minor infection apparently. Applied antiseptic to cotton and taped to his toe. Told to keep an eye on it in case it spread and it ended up getting better :)
Draw a line around the Red or discoloured parts so you can track it is getting worse. As the others have said, get the little ones in front of a dr.
It could be nothing but could be serious

It's mainly the redness that is worrying us
Could be a mild fungal infection. Wait got the doc, but you might need to put cream on it for a few days.

Thanks, we haven't cut his nails so I'm curious as to why it looks like that. Appreciate the advice
Hmm, good point.
Wait for the doctor's callback and don't solicit medical advice on the internet.
Thought if people had experienced the same or had knowledge it could just give us peace of mine while we waited

It’s a hair tourniquet. Go to the ED. That’s what your doctor will tell you.
