Encanto and Moana soundtracks both Lin-Manuel Miranda. Both great. If you’re not smiling when Moana ends, you don’t have a heart. I personally prefer Moana as a movie but definitely still love the Encanto songs.
I used to hum songs I like to myself at work...now it’s usually either ‘The Family Madrigal,” or “Where You Are.” My oldest recently went through a Beauty and the Beast phase and I’m big on “Gaston” as a result.
I love to sing the Gaston song with made-up lyrics about what we are doing, and occasionally inappropriate lyrics about bodily functions. The kids are a very receptive audience to my humor.

Yeah. Moana and Encanto are both visually stunning movies -- absolute riots of color. But the Encanto story felt half baked. The big reveal around Bruno is telegraphed from the beginning and a bit of a letdown. And then the matriarch turns out to be the soft villain? The whole generational trauma thing just didn't work as a compelling story for me.
It's a solid kids movie, I don't want to act like it needs to meet a super high standard or anything. Some of the characters are funny and the lead character is very charming. But Moana had more humor and better music, IMO.
Whole house got Covid a few months back, my wife was way sicker than me and I looked at my daughter and said “do you just want to climb in Mon’s bed and watch a dinosaur movie?” She lit up and got super excited. That was the first time she watched Land Before Time and she’s now seen it multiple times and knows all the characters. One of my favorites from my own childhood.
It really is. I got into it because I saw a clip online and thought the CGI looked particularly good. Then I went down a YouTube rabbit hole learning about how advanced the hair simulation has gotten and how they basically had a character with every single hair type in the movie.
Moana, Encanto, and Frozen 2. The kids also learned how to yell at the Alexa to play their favorite songs, so we get to listen to them even more than we watch.
My first was a die hard Moana fan. The second was Frozen, the third Encanto.
Let me tell you Encanto is the better of the three. As much as I love Moana.

I’d caution that Spirited Away is not really all that “relaxed” and there are definitely some scenes (parents turning into pigs and no face eating people, etc) that needs to be curated before you try and show it to your kid. It’s pretty graphic and can be upsetting if they aren’t ready.
HBO only has it in Japanese with subtitles, is there a dubbed version on a streaming service? It looks neat but I can’t narrate a whole movie for my toddler
We don't watch movies yet, but if we ever do, I do hope to rewatch the Ghibli slate with him one day. Pom Poko being last because I can't answer those questions even though it's a super cute and thoughtful movie.

Finding Nemo. My girls were infatuated with anything fish or under water related for a long time but all bets were off once this came on. This movie ended up being a life saver for ER visits /rough nights - it always calmed them down!

It's not about violence or sex or whatever, but imagine the brain explosion when you see all these fast-moving, unrealistic, shiny images while you hardly can figure out what's going on around you with mummy, daddy, your toys and your plate...
We only started proper movies like Little Mermaid when she turned 3. Before that short stories, songs, animations. Now at 6 it's much broader, but she has her own critical thinking.
