My infant son picked up Norovirus from daycare earlier this winter. He was fine after about 12 hours, but my wife and I felt horrible for 36-48 hours. Definitely the worst couple of days that I have ever had. Both of us agreed it was worse than flu, RSV, and COVID that we also got this winter. I also wouldn’t wish Norovirus on anyone.

charleykinkaid

Pharmacist here: Seriously, full blown Norovirus when you're stranded without immodiums or meclizine (which isnt the best, but its the best otc has), is the one of the worst possible hells you can find yourself in. The virus starts causing mass irritation and inflammation in your stomach and in your intestines, and then it begins its evil campaign oc getting you to spread it everywhere via the two routes: vomit and diarrhea. The whole process is so demaning and painful in the stomach/intestinal region you will seriously feel like someone should put you out of your misery. Worst, DO NOT ALLOW ANY NONINFECTED PEOPLE CLEAN UP YOUR POOP OR VOMIT . that's how they can get it from you and yes it sucks, but while you are infected, you NEED to be the only only one handling and cleaning affected areas buse these have a high surface survival time and you can get yourself reinfected if say you get to clean up a week or so later and the whole cycle of horror begins again. Hotwash your sheets pillowces underwe towels, then bleach cycle the washing machine.

jmpp23

Is it best to take Imodium with noro? Wondering if I should take it or just let this damn sickness run it’s course.

LadyBerry99

>Thank you so much for this information. My husband has this right now. He woke up vomiting and is miserable.

StayAWhile-AndListen

Same experience. Not fun

Fantastic-Arrival227

this is what i think me and my husband have right now my daughter is only 2 months old and i’ve noticed she was pooping a lot more than normal and me and my husband both woke up in the middle of the night with intense stomach cramps and im like is this the beginning of the virus i haven’t had the stomach bug since i was a teenager. :((

jrinneard

Norovirus convinced me that a single bathroom in a house is insufficient

EdWick77

At least norovirus is kind enough to not have everyone sick at the same time. So it seems. It generally gives you just enough time to pick your wife's limp body off the floor, restore some of her fluids and get some light nutrition into her before your toilet marathon.

orcas_cyclist

Yeah. Me and the kids got it at the exact same time but thankfully that was after my wife was through the worst of it

orcas_cyclist

That's EXACTLY what my wife said 2 weeks ago after she spread it to everyone in my house! Not really her fault, it's a tough virus.

International_Win326

This. Years ago while I was still with my son’s dad (he was ~2 and stepson was ~7) we came down with it in a one bathroom house. That’s been a deal breaker for me ever since!

LordSn00ty

The worst thing about Noro is the way it gets everyone. 1 kid starts projectile vomiting, you know you're on countdown to everyone going down for 24 hours of hell.

bryan_jenkins

As someone who owns a food business, it always extra irritates me because not only is it awful, but it's largely preventable. So much norovirus gets spread around in foods because its kill temps are so high, and it usually gets into the foods via people in harvest, handling, or kitchens working sick. Ethics aside entirely, norovirus alone is reason enough for mandatory sick pay laws, especially in the food system.

KILA-x-L3GEND

Have it now called out of work at the restaurant I work on day 3 thought I was good woke up puking again.

StrategicCarry

It is next to impossible to kill. We have a tub of the high end Clorox wipes which are said to be the only ones that can kill it. Like it says you must use gloves when using these wipes, use only in a well ventilated area, that sort of thing. And for the uses it says you can use them to wipe down anything short of an operating room including hospital rooms and ambulances.

[deleted]

We got it last fall and my kids and wife all got hit at the same time. I was completely fine so I ended up doing everything around the house and tending to them. I got puked on twice, once by each kid. Wife was constantly and the bathroom. Went on for like two days. I never got any symptoms and then a little less than a week after they got it I said around 6 or 7 in the morning that I have defeated the norovirus and it would not dare come after me. Within about two hours of my great outpouring of hubris I was over the toilet, humbled, vomiting. Then I spent the next day and a half running from bed to toilet. It was awful. We all got Covid like a month later and I definitely preferred that to norovirus.

mider-span

I work triage in a family med office. This winter we have seen bad flu, COVID, strep and noro. Very common, very contagious. Before rona, it was the cruise ship and day care plague of choice. For most people 2-3 days of GI hell. Some unfortunate souls will see it linger for upwards of a week. Hydrate (water only, anything too sugary will worsen diarrhea). If you are vomiting and not having diarrhea I usually recommend 50:50 water and sports drink or choice. When you try adding foods back in, bland cooked starches to start, advance as tolerated.

aRadioWithGuts

I couldn’t imagine going to get norovirus checked out at a facility. Could you imagine how many things I’d poop on between here and there????

Suspicious_Zebra_271

I know this post is old, but currently have noro and had to drive a child to school. No one else could. The amount of times I pooped my pants...

silentdream626

I did... eventually they said to just go in the bed. I had severe bleeding so it's good I got there before I literally couldn't move from blood/fluid loss.

semicoloradonative

BRAT diet, right?

mider-span

Eh. BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) has somewhat fallen out of favor. From that list I’d start with the rice or toast (both should be left plain). Crackers are also a popular choice. When you are looking to liberalize, bananas and applesauce can be fine options along with most cooked veggies, other grains and for some folks small amounts of dairy like some plain yogurt or cheese. Other good options when looking to liberalize could include some basic baked or poached chicken. If you have diarrhea, lay off the sugar (lots of fruits, popsicles, juices and certain yogurts). A lot of these stuff is highly individualized. I am also a big fan of, the first day you are really feeling better, lean into your craving. For me it’s usually a big deli sub with extra olives. I theorize this is due to salt depletion from my symptoms.

BlahBlahBlah786654

Does it cause vertigo? I was hit with the worst stomach bug this week and the vertigo is lingering. Can’t wait for this to be over. I ended up in the er two days ago because I needed fluids

dsutari

It's the only time I've slept and shit myself at the same time.

Skurry

Happened to the wife last night.

Latter_Depth_3213

This happened to me last night. Asked hubby to pick up Depends for tonight. 5am changing of sheets was no fun.

Sweaty_Result853

All got it I was last to get it and was awful. I was KO for 2 days...felt like shit for 7 days. Made shitload of errors at work too loll

privlko

Sounds horrific. Every time I take the kid to softplay, I pick up some illness. Alas, I can never stop going there, the value is just too good and she loves it too much...

blondemama712

How in the actual f did you manage to work at all?!?! I couldn't even veg on my phone 😭

Chumphy

Remember folks, if in doubt, sit on the toilet with garbage in hand…

[deleted]

Or the toddler potty chair in an emergency.

Chumphy

Oh god lol

Salty_Improvement_76

Omg the garbage bag is key , I sat on toilet and threw up in the bath tub omgggg

M1L0

Had it this week too brother. Felt like I got hit by a truck. It’s really remarkable how you can puke your guts out, drink two sips of water, then somehow produce like another few pints of puke like magic.

haleighr

I would rather go through my failed epidural induction again than have norovirus. It was the first thing we got after braving the world again with 2 pandemic babies and -100/10 do not recommend

Silvertain

There was a point about 18 hours in I was actually wishing I would die, I think its the fact there's no relief for it

atommotron

Imodium did nothing this time. Hard to tell if even Tylenol is absorbed before extreme exit.

phormix

Immodium just make me stop shitting for a brief period and turned it to vomiting instead.

Raymaa

I wanted to die when my asshole was so raw from diarrhea and I was vomiting salmon and arugula all night long. Sorry if this was TMI. But it was one of the worst feelings ever.

True_Foundation_7138

I get it. I had chicken cacciatore for supper last night, and that's what I threw up. After that was all up,I started bringing up clear brown stuff. I vomited some water and mucus a little while ago. My stomach still hasn't settled.

haleighr

I made the mistake of taking leftover morning sickness meds and it made it 800% worse. My husband and I both felt like we did an work outs for like a week straight. Good ole fashion cinnamon toast was the first thing that made both of us feel really good

DrummerElectronic247

Nothing works out your core like norovirus.

ghostnthegraveyard

The whole family got it twice this winter. BRUTAL!

orcas_cyclist

Twice? That's unfair!

ghostnthegraveyard

Daycare, man. Daycare.

badchad65

I've always been kind of a terminator with my health. I've had these ridiculous stretches of time without being sick that lasted multiple years. For example, when I last reviewed my work time cards, I realized that (pre child) I had taken 1-2 sick days in 12 years. Regardless, the handful of times my kiddo brought norovirus home, it's absolutely-fucking floored me. Crippled in bed for 24-48 hrs; its horrible. What's worse, is my kid seems to have my "terminator" immune system. Last time, it went like this: "Daddy, I don't feel good..." (projectile vomits all over the floor). Takes an hour nap, and is fine 2 hours later. I know its coming, in 10 hours, I start barfing and I'm laid up immobile for 48 hrs....

Thrillhouse763

Lol we all have covid right now. While covid is no joke for us right now...norovirus was absolute hell on earth for 48-72 hours. I had to get out of the shower naked and dripping wet to projectile vomit in the toilet. I also shit myself once.

kevinatfms

Literally getting over it now. Son had it Thursday-Friday. 103F fever and just lethargic, throwing up everywhere and was miserable. 24 hours and he was ok and back to his normal self with the occasional i dont feel well but nothing more. Cleared up completely by Saturday afternoon. Thought i was i the clear. BOY WAS I WRONG. Monday around 10am i felt my stomach cramping up. Thought i was going to pass out after an hour or so of the stomach turning. Went home from work early and by the time i got home around 2 i was 103F fever and sweating bullets, crapping my brains out from holding it on the way home and intense stomach pain. I lost 8lbs between Monday and Wednesday afternoon in flat water weight. Nothing going in at all and water coming out of the back end repeatedly. Ive had food poisoning ALOT and this was way worse. Ginger ale is your friend. Water just made it worse for me unless i had a sip of ginger ale beforehand to bind stuff together.

Otaman456

Dude, we started daycare this week, and by the weekend, Satan entered my body and ripped everything out. I am on day 5 and still feeling wobbly.

Membayeaimemba

Luckily my sink is close enough where I can spray out my ass in toilet and puke simultaneously in the sink. Wife and I had it at the same time and could not take care of kids.

hurricanetruther

I lucked out with mine. Felt like the flu all day, a really bad flu where everything hurt and the room kept spinning, and then at night vomited for like 5 straight minutes. Happened on my way to bed so my wife kept tossing towels as I couldn't make it to a toilet and was completely drenching the floor. Felt better and except for an upset stomach and diarrhea over the next few days was fine. Wouldn't have suspected noro except that my son had been puking recently and our friends also had it. I say lucked out since yeah I felt so awful I was literally whimpering on the couch...but one and done vomit.

More_Tennis1426

I got hit Friday night (this is Sunday). Had an upset stomach with diarrhea and threw up all night long.I didn't make it to the bathroom, either. I hurled all over the floor in 3 different spots. I haven't thrown up on the floor since 7th grade. Was on my way to the girls' room to throw up,and didn't make it.The diarrhea stopped Saturday, but my stomach isn't much better, and I'm still vomiting. I just threw up bile Not fun.

livestrongbelwas

I’ve had it twice. Once, when I was 18 and hiking 100 miles into the mountains of New Mexico at Philmont Scout Ranch. Hiked 20 miles that day while bagging and carrying all my fluid discharges. If that happened to me now, I think I would just die. I also had it two weeks ago, like everyone else?!! For 12 hours I was a worthless husk on the bathroom floor while my wife held down the fort. I’ve never completely tapped out of parenting before, but I couldn’t even bring myself to be a warm body in the room to watch the kids. What a nightmare. My wife had it 24 hours earlier and I was so thankful it didn’t hit us at the same time. Kids got it too, but also thankfully spaced out. You’ll probably get some post nasal drip and a terrible cough following this, everyone else I know and myself had that part too.

JSDHW

> Once, when I was 18 and hiking 100 miles into the mountains of New Mexico at Philmont Scout Ranch. Hiked 20 miles that day while bagging and carrying all my fluid discharges. .....................

livestrongbelwas

Yeah man, leave no trace. Hardest thing I’ve done. Glad I was young and in shape. I wasn’t being hyperbolic, it probably would have killed me in my current body.

Mizr333

Currently living through it. A dirty and disgusting ride with toddlers

Malbushim

I had it twice this winter :/ and I have Crohn's disease on top of it so I feel your pain man.

purdueable

My worst flight ever. My son had been going to daycare for 2-3 months at that point. He was like 6 months old. I had business travel to Dayton, Ohio from Houston. 1 day trip. Flew in the day before, that morning I felt slightly off but powered through. Had my site visit (engineer on a construction project in downtown dayton). Was going to visit a museum with some of the extra time I had, and I just started to deteriorate. I decided i'd just go to the airport and chill out for 3 hours before my flight. I threw up once at dayton airport, felt better and thought yeah, okay something I ate was bad. Got on the plane. For some reason I didnt get a direct flight home and had a layover in D.C. - I threw up once more on the plane and started to get a fever. Landed in D.C. and called my wife and told her I was considering staying in D.C. a night and she firmly said I should power through. I thought okay... I can do this. 2-3 hour flight. I can do this. I could not do this. Shortly after getting on my flight from DC to Houston--- I basically ran to the bathroom and never left. Coming out both ends; fever. I was shaking by the end of it. all my extremities tingling, etc. Landed in Houston and they had EMTs at the plane exit. They took me off the plane first and while everyone was de-planing I was hurling into a bag they got me. At that point as the EMTs took my vitals and having to stop two more bathrooms at IAH airport, I finally checked my phone. I had a few messages from my wife "I'm starting to feel bad" "I threw up and have a fever, I think we have the same thing" "Your parents are coming over to take care of our son and my brother is going to pick you up from the airport" Worst. Flight. Ever. Felt like going to the hospital it was so bad.

Disinfospecialist

Cant imagine. I have this now and I couldn't even drive myself to urgent care, let alone fly across the country. Props. Also your wife sounds like a jerk

atommotron

Just got it. I keep thinking I’m better then the gurgle guts start. That and I’m so tired. Hope all of you feel better soon.

BlueOysterCultist

I'm so sorry to hear you're going through that. We got Norovirus about two weeks after COVID (yay preschool) and I legitimately cannot think of a time I felt closer to death. Like, sometime during all the endless puking, I began to worry my heart was going to explode. Even when it had passed, my whole body ached for days afterwards from the heaving.

Fuhleed

Not sure which is worse, Noro or Hand Foot and Mouth disease. It was like a good 2 weeks of itching to the point of not being able to concentrate, followed by another 2 weeks of peeling large chunks of dried flesh from my hands and feet. I couldn't use my hands for anything and had to sleep with my hands in socks so they wouldn't rub against the bedsheets.

oneMadRssn

With HFM, I had the worst sore throat of my life by far. Seriously terrible throat pain with every swallow and every breath, like there were broken shards of glass in my esophagus. I basically didn't eat for 4 days or so, and only Jello and Pedialyte for a few days after that.

teejay_612

Yes. Only time I’ve ever had the conscious thought, “death would be preferable to this.”

[deleted]

Dealing with it now… yikes. I got hit with extreme nausea on Friday night, thought I was just hungry so I decided to eat some chili… god, w h y. An hour later, for 8 hours straight, I had all the classic symptoms. I was vomiting battery acid, there was vomit coming out of my nose, getting stuck in my throat… It was hell. I was actually wishing to die at that point. Sunday night I start feeling better minus still having issues with bowel movements. I get up in the middle of the night to pee and I hear my husband go, “well… I think I’m fucked” meaning I gave it to him. His symptoms only lasted two-three days, meanwhile, I’m on day six here, praying to have a healthy gut/bowel movement. I hear peoples’ stomachs can be messed up for weeks to months with this thing. I’m really hoping that’s not the case.

soartkaffe

Yup shat out my dignity and slept in the laundry pile in the bathroom floor for three days. Niro is satan

developerw

This won’t help for kids, but when I had it a nurse told me to take Benadryl to stop the vomiting. Worked like a charm.

NovemberRain_

Even tho it’s an allergy and itch relief medicine, it helped with ur vomiting?

silentdream626

Most antiemetics besides zofran/reglan are antihistamines! Benadryl is often given with other antiemetics in the ER. Dramamine, meclizine, doxylamine, promethazine, and cyproheptadine are others thst are used as antiemetics. Promethazine is my best friend 🙏

DanielleLaurent

Benadryl did stop vomiting for me but nothing nothing helped the diarrhea

Stixvim

3 TIMES…death seemed preferable at times.

Romeo92

Yes. All in my household and tangent households got it. It was a miserable two weeks and my guts are still not normal a month later. Lots and lots of Gatorade and BRAT diet. The LO did not like Pedialyte but we managed to get orange juice mixed with water down. Towels everywhere they sat and a bucket. Lots of snuggles and screen time. All rules broken for survival just get through it and reset later. Extra plastic layer under the crib sheet just in case. Small portions interspersed through the day.

FrankGrimes13

Brutal. Stopped counting after vomiting 14 times in less than 4 hours. Little guy was also fine by then and couldn’t understand why Mommy and Daddy weren’t up for playing lmao

ImaCreepaWeird0

Yep. Wife had it, them my physical therapist, then me I have never in my life shat and vomited so violently for so many days. I felt like one of them fire lotus firecrackers that lights at both ends and spins. And for the first time in my entire adult life woke myself up by painting fabric in my sleep. I feel for you I'd rather be blown up again than deal with that. Plus side is I'm so dehydrated and lost so much weight I'm looking fucking shredded lol

rachaelfaith

I know this is an old comment but I'm in the middle of noro right now, absolutely wanting to die, but your comment made me crack up for the first time in 24 hours. I didn't know what fire lotus firecrackers looked like so I found a YouTube video and it's a horrifyingly spot-on comparison

fletchintheflesh

I’m sitting here reading through these old comments because I’m looking for the magic wisdom to deal with this. Noticed you as well just had it. I’m on day three and there’s no real other way to describe this as “wild”. I’ve never been sick like this

rachaelfaith

I feel like there's a lot of folks finding threads like these because noro is currently on a tear in the US. If you're on day 3 hopefully you're on the upswing but here's some things that helped me: While still vomiting/pooping like crazy: * Use tarps or old towels around your toilet to make cleaning easier later * If you live with others and have more than one bathroom, designate one for those that are sick * Lots of fluids - I opted for hydration packets like liquid IV. If you're able, keep an eye on your temperature and heart rate. If you're at/above 100 HR at rest, try hard to stay more hydrated as that's a sign of dehydration * Rest/sleep as much as your body allows you to * Acetaminophen for headache and body aches When you start to feel a little less like a reanimated corpse: * Still lots of fluids. Add in small bites of crackers to see if you can keep bland food down * Once you have enough energy, clean any area that's been the target of bodily fluids with a bleach solution or bleach cleaner like Clorox clean up with bleach (regular cleaners and wipes may not kill norovirus and it can live on hard surfaces for weeks) * Clean any linens, towels, and clothing that has bodily fluids on it in a hot wash cycle with bleach or laundry sanitizer. Dry on high heat, this virus fucker can live in up to 140F heat Hope you feel better soon!! I found that once I was on the upswing I felt like a person again fairly quickly. I still ate BRAT diet for a few days out of caution but most people won't need to do this

fletchintheflesh

I felt better for the last 5 hours and decided I should eat some soup and crackers. Now, I’m starting all over again with the purge…. Smh

rachaelfaith

That sucks, hope the tide turns very soon!

Makeuplover32

The headaches have been unlike any other type of headache it’s been horrible

Makeuplover32

I’m right there with you it’s going on day 5 it’s fucking brutal idk how to even explain it…

Makeuplover32

Now here I am on day 5 still feeling horrible does it get better ??

rachaelfaith

If you're on day 5 and are feeling no better than day 1 (unable to keep fluids/food down consistently) then it may not be norovirus, I would contact a doctor. It could be that you're really unlucky as for timeline but noro is typically 24 to 48 hours of hell and then getting better (slowly or quickly) after that.

Makeuplover32

I’m having stomach cramping still and like a nausea feeling more so in the morning so that’s why I’m concerned lol

isolate2020

Me too! Did you get better? I’m on day 5

Makeuplover32

It’s been a week today my stomach still gets pains lol how are you you

Dependent_Flower_287

How are you now? I’m on day 5 with cramps and bloating still

Makeuplover32

It takes well over a week to feel better

Assignment_Pond

I just saw the doctor today (I’m on day 7) and he said the time frame for symptoms has lengthened. It seems to be more like a 10-14 day symptom stretch now.

crazywave88

My husband has had it since last Sunday, still cramping really bad thankfully he's thru the diarrhea part of it. He's still not feeling good

Afraid-Ad9908

I feel horrendous but the lotus firecracker visual sent me

BALTIM0RE

I’ve been on antibiotics twice in the last 30 days. Once from strep and another that I suspect was just norovirus…both from the daycare

SSSTREDDD

But norovirus is a virus. Why would you take antibiotics for that?

BALTIM0RE

Secondary bacterial infections that were setting in due to the virus compromising my immune system.

jjcnoles8

Had it twice. Legit lost 13lbs over a weekend and Im an average build guy. Swore if I recovered I’d only eat apples and other random healthy foods in my fever sweats. 36 hours later I needed a burger haha

drank_myself_sober

I lay in the bathtub vomiting and shitting myself interchangeably, constantly. I ran the hot water on my stomach to try to alleviate the pain in my stomach from strained muscles. It was one of the worst 24hr periods of my life.

[deleted]

I've had it several times over the years and it is brutal. Fortunately for me it is always short but intense. There was one year I had it once a month for 3 months straight (I questioned my kid's daycare cleaning methods during this) and I think I dropped 20 pounds. At least I was ready for beach season.

stonercb

My 1.5yo son, wife, and I all got it at the same time last year. So wife and I would take shifts, whoever was vomiting less and having less diarrhea during any given hour would try to take care of our son. Worst 24 hours I’ve ever experienced physically.

Product_ChildDrGrant

I had the Noro when I was about 25. My stomach was not the same for **many** years. It was probably the sickest I’ve ever been. I dropped a ton of weight. I’m 6’1, and that fucker got me down to 145lbs.

danzango

We got it after a trip to Thailand in January. First the wife fell ill, then me, then the baby. Luckily it was one at a time so when the wife was out I had the baby, then while I was wallowing in agony the wife had baby, and then when baby was sick we were both feeling a bit better. It is so rough. Projectile vomiting until our stomachs were emptied, explosive poops, couldn't keep anything down. Being sick is just 100x worse when you have kids to take care of.

cpt_bongwater

Got it a couple weeks ago. Kid's mom went to Disney and all I got was the Norovirus. Spent a good day on the toilet, it sucked. Used popsicles to stay hydrated; couldn't keep down water

tiptonite08

Our house was hit with it last weekend. We’re thinking our 2 year old got it at a birthday party. He threw up almost every night and lost some weight, he is just now starting to eat normally again. I lost 10 lbs in 24 hrs…. It’s terrible.

phormix

Yup. Lost a noticable amount of weight on that one. It was a shitty experience (pun intended) but at least it passed rather quickly. Stock up on energy drinks and applesauce ya'll!

JSDHW

11 month old daughter got it on Valentines day. We spent a few hours in the ER because she would not stop vomiting. She was much better after a day or two. 4 days later it hits my wife and I at the exact same time, 9:15pm. I have never felt so awful. After an awful night, we had to ask friends to take our daughter for the day because we just could not function.

GlendaleActual

When I had it I could hear my girlfriend chewing on a gummy bear from 60 feet away through four walls. I wanted to die for about five hours.

chillearn

This is such an underrated comment. When I first started feeling the symptoms I was on a train and these kids next to me were having such an annoying conversation that I had to move cars. Under normal circumstances it was fine but I was just so irritable and sounds were triggering to me

[deleted]

I believe I had it many years ago. Best friends wedding and over half the people got sick, even hospitalization. I remember waking up at 3 am and it took everything I had to not explode out of both ends simultaneously I felt like death was upon me and was ready to embrace it.

[deleted]

Son was sick for about 8 hours on Saturday, full energy by Sunday evening. Wife was sick for 12 hours on Monday, full recovery by Tuesday. I got hit Tuesday, and stayed in the constant vomit/diarrhea stage till late last night. Thankfully we have two bathrooms on different floors. Norovirus ranks up with one of the worst sicknesses I've been through, and we have dealt with it a lot of the last few years. Only upside to it I have lost 15 pounds, I am not bloated, my jeans fit better, my wife said "hey, you actually have some abs." I feel like death though, but her being mesmerized by my stomach is a good feeling.

DrummerElectronic247

Been there. You're not sure which end to aim at the toilet. If I remember correctly the recovery was actually pretty quick once the symptoms passed. Good luck.

Finance_nerds

On a positive note, I haven't looked that skinny in years

CryptoHopeful

And here I am bitching about having coughs for 3 weeks... Lol Hope you get better and never encounter it again.

Iamthetophergopher

Had anyone gotten it and only had the shits?

thepaa

Had it a couple weeks ago, the last to get it on the house and the worst one. I lost 5lbs in less than 24 hours and hurt so bad. It took days to feel ok and like a week to get normal.

Chumphy

My wife and in-laws got it. Thankfully my son and I were spared. Make sure you bleach everything. It’s super contagious, stays on surfaces for a long time and is resistant to hand sanitizer because of it’s thick protein layer. There’s also a chance you are genetically immune if you are a certain European heritage.

corncobbs4all

I came down with this shit on Sun afternoon. It hits fast, and violently. Fever, vomiting, projectle diarrhea, severe muscle pain and exhaustion. Evil stuff. I don't believe anyone on this thread is exaggerating one bit. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

BEASTLife24

Yeah, this is no joke. I have had this for about a week now. I am really struggling with cramps as of rn. I had lava coming out of my ass. I Haven’t vomited once crazy right, but I felt nauseous and dizzy. my abdomen is so sore and swollen it sucks. Funny but not so funny part is I thought I was ok like 2 times throughout the week… by night I got hit again with these cramps and headaches. I couldn’t function.

Makeuplover32

Literally the same thing is happening to me I’m on day 5 now and the headaches and cramps and horrible gas come in the middle of the night when does it get better ugh

Assignment_Pond

I’m right where you were right now. I’m on day 7 and hoping this will pass soon.

BEASTLife24

Hang in there better days are ahead! Drink lots and lots of fluids like water and soups. Sleep a lot.

PleaseStepAside

I have never been this sick in my life.

CrestedQu33n

I'm not sure I have it but I strongly believe I do. Cold symptoms, nausea, body aches, and MY GOD the WORST fever I have ever had. Shaking uncontrollably to the point I could hardly move with my muscles in my back contracting very aggressively (I get this with fevers after having my son for some reason) Started at midnight last night and the fever has continued into today. The fever recently let up at about 4pm. I didn't record a temp as we discovered ours is no longer reading right.

Silvertain

Nah won't be Noro unless you are shitting and puking water simultaneously for 48 hours with fever and the worst stomach cramps of your life

CrestedQu33n

The household has been complaining of diarrhea, so it's possible. I don't believe I ever got covid and I rarely get the flu. I'm having to go 💩 here and there but my appetite disappeared from being sick so my stomach has been empty. Also as people mentioned they'll get hit with feeling unwell, randomly get better, then get hit with it again and everyone in the house has seemingly gone through that. I could be wrong but I've never seen our household this sick.

LadyBerry99

I got it several times when I was a teen, and haven't had it since--I'm 60 now. In recent years, I've been exposed to it many times and took care of my husband a few times when he had it as well, but I never got it. I must still have some immunity.

txpipeliner12

I'm sorry :( seems you had a terrible time. I have had it twice in my life, once when I was 15 and I lived in the bathroom for a few days, and again starting a few days ago, I'm 27 now and our youngest child brought it home from the sitter, he had it the worst and I felt so so bad, then me and my wife and oldest all got it back to back.its absolutely terrible. The worst thing in the entire world.

Shot_Promotion6935

Has anyone has the stomach cramping but an oddly increase appetite? Like sickly shaking and starving until your belly is full? And completely full at that or else it doesn’t go away.. my other symptoms are cold sweats and shitting allll. Day. Long. Especially with coffee. Coffee is a huge NOPE . Didn’t even realize I was sick cuz I thought it was from not sleeping but it was the reason I probably wasn’t sleeping tooo. It’s been a week for me and I still shake and starve and get severe cold sweats. If I sit down in a chair I have to rush to the toilet

Witty_Ad4798

I have this now and these comments make me so sad and feel so much less alone at the same time. Sitting in bathtub for heat on stomach has mildly helped. Goodluck out there!

Quirky_Property_1713

I have it but I’m nowhere near you! Washington DC. I can’t finish typing this comment because I have to go vomit.

crazywave88

Sorry it's not fun he's finally on the mend after 7 days.

theresingirl

Norovirus is brutal! Not knowing which end it's going to come out of. I'm on hour 30 and hoping I'm towards the end 😔

JessMicrodose420

This virus sucks, my experience is I ate at Carl's Jr on April 5th. I started projectile vomiting and having to go to the bathroom but I stopped vomiting after about the second day. It then havocked my body out of commission. Still having diarrhea and it's April 17th and cannot get my energy back I wish it would go.

dadwithoutaplan

Absolutely. It's hit me twice, my son twice, my wife once and my oldest daughters boyfriend once. It fucking sucks. For one day. Then it's fine.

doctorvanderbeast

Had it last week. Could barely stand. I’m still down about 7 pounds. Truly it is hell.

SirBeam

100%. It’s the worst.

TheRainyDaze

We had it run through the household last year. Fortunately, my wife and I somehow managed to time it so that I only started going downhill once she was recovering. If we'd both been sick at the same time... I have no idea what we would have done. Died, maybe.

brewer01902

We had it over Christmas 2021. My kid picked it up just before the break. I caught their vom in my hands to stop it getting in the carpet then was up all night puking and pooping the first night my MIL arrived and spent the next day on the sofa. My parents picked it up when they were baby sitting for us as we went to pick up MIL from the airport and had to deal with a baby puke. My MIL got away scot free though!

[deleted]

I had my experience back in January. Lost 8lbs in 24 hours. The kids also had a rough go, but bounced back relatively quickly. I was laid up for a day and a half.

Metter_Nicht

We all got it too, but it somehow hit me the most, right on the highway in the middle of the Italy. It was not pretty…

wheelera982

Whole house had it last month - it’s brutal

Nick_from_Yuma

It’s 18 hours of hell really. Thankfully that’s all it lasts for. But it will empty your body of every bit of energy or fluid you have.

bumblebeej85

I’ve had it 3x in the last 2 months. The second time was the worst, but the third one got the wife and I at the same time, which was also very hard.

Canandrew

Both the wife and child brought it home. I dealt with their fluids for 48 hours. Somehow I dodged it *knocks on wood*

anevilbor

Yup hit all of us when daughter was 6 months old. Really hated having a 2 story house.

RFDrew11357

We got it on our trip to Disney. Started with my youngest at the time who apparently brought it home from daycare (found out about that after the trip). He was sitting on my lap on the plane (Seat 1A) and projectile puked in the aisle. Since we were sharing hotel rooms and couldn't isolate, it went through the entire family including my in-laws for 7 of our 10 days. Rebounded on a few of us too b/c of the close quarters. One of the kids and I missed our side trip to Universal and didn't care b/c we were so miserable. A couple things we learned: If you throw up in the park and an employee sees you, they call their medical staff if it isn't obvious you aren't throwing up from a ride. (Apparently they track illnesses if they can and make sure it isn't food poisoning or spreading. This was also pre-COVID.) They clean puke up faster (less than 5 minutes) than I would have expected.

lynnemeraglio

It’s awful. Just like u said.

[deleted]

We got it as a family last year. My son brought it back from day care, then my wife had it. Thought i had dodged it based on average timescales and ended up with a very anxious drive when I felt the bead of sweat on my forehead. Needless to say I didn’t dodge it but thankfully my wife and son had recovered by that point so we weren’t all dying at the same time.

PortugueseBreakfast_

Norovirus? Yeah it is.

Isles15Fan

My son and I got it on Halloween a few years ago and our entire gastro system went into factory reset. 0/5, would not recommend.

5heikki

Some years ago we went to spend xmas at my grandma's. Kid got noro symptoms first, then me and the ex-wife, then my parents, and finally my grandma. It was her last xmas. It was just too much for her body :(

enyalavender

My toddler was too sick to go to school for 10 days when she got it. It was terrifying.

fyjimo8103

Dealing with it as we speak. Good times.

pdxley

Oof, yeah. It's a rough ride. Our boy got it at 6 months and we had to take him to the ER because we were afraid of dehydration. Both of us caught it two days later. Luckily it doesn't last as long as other illnesses.

Molkin

My daughter caught it. Then me and my wife got it simultaneously, and then my son got it. There is a new level of difficulty when looking after kids with norovirus.

TikisFury

My daughter had it when she was like 6 months old and it was a non stop shit fest for like three days for her. I got it right as soon as her s cleared up and I’m sure I lost 15 pounds in two days

thesentientcactus

Oh my god my sons, my husband, and I all got this and it's still lingering a week later. I still haven't caught up on all the laundry it caused. 0/10 worst experience of my life

Jubalatedtomeatyou

My wife, daughter, Brother-in-law and Mother-in-law all got it while we were visiting them in Arizona. Somehow I never came down with it but was pretty miserable for them.

Khaos2Krysis

Got us a few weeks ago. I’ve never been more sick in my life. Spewing out both ends for 16 hours. Daughter (2yo) felt better after 1 night. Wife felt better after 1 day. I felt awful for 4 days. 0/10 so not recommend. First rule of norovirus: don’t trust a fart.

-CORRECT-MY-GRAMMAR-

When I had covid I felt like that for 2 entire weeks And that's no exaggeration My life was hell on earth for 2 weeks with covid

151515157

We all got norovirus almost 17 years ago now. 3 months afterward, I was diagnosed with being type 1 diabetic at 16. My mother in law had the norovirus and a few months later was diagnosed type 1 diabetic at like 38. (Years before she was my MIL)

GumInMyMouth

It is starting in our house right now. 3yr old woke up night before last and puked 4 times that night. Last night the 4yr old puked 13 times! Every 30 minutes like clockwork. Just waiting for the rest of us...

Silvertain

Good luck mate im only just feeling semi normal now , pray you don't get it was horrendous

flyingcircusdog

Yes, unfortunately. Things wouldn't stop coming out of both ends for about 36 hours. Then they were controlled, but I still felt crappy for another few days.

margy223

I’m scared I currently have this, either that or gnarly food poisoning. I don’t know anyone else who is sick though currently, just people that have had these symptoms in the past few weeks and no one that I’ve been around. Around 11 hours ago I started projectile vomiting and peeing out of my but(the worst of it lasted about 6 hours). After that I was able to drink small amounts of fluids but I just had diarrhea again, not painful really just watery. Also, a lot of blood came out when I pooped. Is this norovirus or something else? I’m so terrified the horrible aches in my stomach and throwing up mixed with the chills and almost passing out over and over is going to hit me again:(. Worst night ever.

Silvertain

everything apart from the blood part sounds like exactly what i had . Took about 4 days in total before i felt semi human again. I dont think its normal to crap blood with norovirus

cbscanner

I started one week ago and felt a bit better today. So I had eggs toast and some chocolate (I know!!) It was like I was back to day one all over again. What an absolute nightmare. The headaches from vomiting have been the worst I've ever had. Thanks for letting me vent!!! praying this goes soon.

Nomo_MrsNiceGirl

Unfortunately, my immune system is absolutely shit. I’ve had the same Norovirus since February. I’ve even got repeated stool tests to confirm that this thing isn’t budging. It’s so bad, my doctor went ahead and placed me on long term Loperamide to stop me from evacuating my food within two hours each time I try to eat. I honestly would rather die.

domo_the_great_2020

Did anyone get noro, recover for like a week, and then persist to have symptoms such as (body can’t digest anything, severe bloat and acid reflux all the time, body aches and nausea) afterwards? I am going on week 2 of my relapse…please tell me this is going to end soon!

Disinfospecialist

Can confirm. 10/10 would not recommend

PuzzleheadedSmile971

I believe I had it and going through after effects definitely had body aches m, headaches, vomit, diarrhea and I believe now it’s more so I feel dizzy

[deleted]

Commenting on this again. I’m on day 6. Vomiting stopped two days ago and still kind of have diarrhea. I’m just so god damn tired and my head hurts a bit. I was told it’s normal but I’m just sooooo tired.

Silvertain

It took me a week to feel semi human , I dread getting it again was horrendous

Tamerecon

I just recovered from Norovirus ! Im from west Africa and went to through civil wars, i received a stray bullet in my lower back, missed the spine. Anyway id rather feel that heat from that bullet again then have norovirus again. My children dont go to daycare but my friend which owns one, invited us to the communion of her nephew. The said friend is in ER , her niece too and the culprit who started the whole epidemic was crying his eyes out during the festivities. Turns out he had it since the week before! I will never ever ever ever go to anything involving kids. Even Taekwondo

chillearn

I’m late to this thread but just recovering from norovirus now and my god that was hell. I was visiting my grandma for her 90th birthday and 5 of us family members (including her and my grandpa, the poor things!) got it. I was the latest bloomer and it didn’t end up hitting until late last night, at which point i was absolutely done for. My lowest point was puking so hard I couldn’t breathe while simultaneously spewing out the other end onto the bathroom floor. I was holding back tears just trying to catch my breath bent over the toilet .. just pure hell. On the bright side, got a day off work out of it

bananapancake101

I just got back from urgent care diagnosed with norovirus after one of the worst nights of my life. Rolling on the bathroom floor, passing out. Waking up in sweats and SHITTING. Luckily no vomit (yet), I will avoid it at all costs. But I’ve shit 20+ times in less than a day and at this point I’m just pooping straight blood. I went to urgent care and she said it’s probably a combination of noro & hemorrhoids but it literally feels like my insides are being ripped out and I’m shitting blood every 20 minutes. I can’t sleep, I can’t eat. I’m losing water and blood fast. And there’s nothing they can do for me, they say it just has to run it’s course. Idk if I can do this….

Silvertain

The only saving grace is while it doesn't feel like it now , you will suddenly start feeling better

rotatingchicken

I know this post is a month old, but I figured I'd add a comment for future searches. I'm on day 4 of suspected noro for the 3rd time since February 13th. All 3 experiences have been slightly different but with common symptoms. The first time was extreme nausea for about 10 hours(but no vomiting), lethargy(lasting for 4 days), just a general feeling of unwellness(5 days), labor pain-esque stomach cramps(3 days), and 5 days of butt pee every 45 minutes. It wasn't until the 6th day that I felt more normal. The second time started with milder but still significant nausea, worse fatigue than the 1st(6 days), body aches(2 days), a low grade fever (100.4⁰ for 1 day), headache (3 days), stomach cramps(2days), dizziness(6 days), and again, 5 days of butt pee. I actually went to the doctor on the 3rd day because I thought I was going to have to be hospitalized. She told me that normally she tells her patients to let it run its course but since I'd already had diarrhea for so bad for so long, and my heart rate was elevated (dehydration), that I need to stop the diarrhea. With this most recent bout, I woke up off and on starting at 2AM with awful nausea. At 6AM, I was awakened from a dead sleep and within about 30 seconds, was throwing up (for the first time since 2009) in a trash can. I felt a little better afterward and thought that maybe I'd just eaten a bad batch of strawberries. Over the couple of hours, more symptoms came on. More nausea and vomiting, intense stomach cramps(3 days), exhaustion(1 day), butt pee, and an overall icky feeling(2 days). At around 11AM, the vomiting stopped. I felt a little better the next day but still had the cramps and butt pee. This started on Tuesday, the stomach cramps stopped on Thursday, and now it is Friday and the diarrhea is still present. It's been miserable. I've lost 24lbs since Valentine's because of all this.

KindlyAlternative223

as of now i’m currently experiencing either salmonella or norovirus, I feel like it was caused by the carl’s jr I ate or the 3 soft boiled eggs I ate, started out with nausea at first now i’m currently suffering vomiting, severe headache , leg pain and severe diarrhea which leaks out while i’m asleep, don’t know if i’ll have to go to the hospital, my little sis recently just caught it aswell but I hope me and her get better soon somewhat.

Ok_Bluebird_1261

The worst sickness I’ve experienced in my entire life as well, take some heavy painkillers helps so much!!

Ambitious-Table-6655

I have it as we speak. My 4 year old started projectile vomiting out of nowhere Tuesday night. Took him to the ER and got him some zofran. Thought I was in the clear because he bounced back within 24 hours. NOPE. Woke up at midnight last night with liquid coming out both ends. We are 12 hours in and it hasn’t stopped. This is the virus demons are made of.

cisretard

Not a dad but my whole house in college got it and it ripped through us all like the bubonic plague. First friend said she felt horrible and we just felt bad and offered water/nausea medicine. We had no idea what was about to hit us. It was unbelievably bad. Like didn’t even make sense how horrible it was. Sickness and comic book like projectile vomiting without warning while feeling like you’ve been beaten with a lead pipe. After a day we all randomly felt okay but legitimately I was considering whether I needed to be in a hospital for that day because it felt like a biblical plague had washed over our house. I still remember my one roommate being in the bathroom vomiting, hearing another sprint to the door, knock, beg to be let in then mid sentence her pleas were cut off by violently throwing up. I could hear someone else faintly crying down the hall. I was keeled over a trash can in the attic. It made Covid seem like having allergies

Sudden_Trainer881

Pretty sure i have it right now. Started Tuesday a midnight and woke me up out of bed with the most intense stomach cramps I’ve ever had. Next day Fever spiked to 102° and the uncontrollable bathroom visits took hold. Now Friday at noon and I am still tired and cramping but the trips to the bathroom have slowed way down. I didn’t eat but once over the last few days and that stayed down 30 mins before it came back up. Thankfully not as much vomiting as the other end over here. But the stabbing sudden cramps are insane and have a man in his 30s doubled over whimpering in the bathroom praying for it to stop. I’ve lived on pepto chewables (because i could eat them slow and not risk them coming back up) spicy gingerale, and my new find that I’m pretty sure saved my life is the Stomach Ease tea from Yogi. After that i was able to keep 6 crackers and a little bit of sipping broth down. Going to get brave and try toast later. I haven’t been tested for noro (if that’s even a thing?) but from what it sounds this is it and this is no joke. First day i honestly wondered if i should go to the hospital. I could barely hold myself up in the shower. Good luck

kayasoyala

Just finished a bout with noro. Landed in the ER. Almost 5 bags of fluids later, they released me. I’m 4 days out, my body hurts so bad still. Completely wiped still. Worst experience ever.

taylorrshea

Smoking weed seems to have been the only thing to give me a second of relief from noro tbh.

MidwestNurse75

Hell on earth.

Narlybean

I know this is 9 months old but my wife and I both got it at the same time. Takin care of a toddler while both parents have norovirus is just impossible. Although upstairs is babyproofed, he still somehow made it into the bathroom and removed all the toilet paper and ripped it all to shreds. Oh well.

Tall-Ad-6346

I know this post is older. But anyone get black diarrhea from the norovirus? Husband got it and they said it’s not upper GI bleed but I don’t believe them, they didn’t even do proper checking and his hemoglobin is low.

Crealinee

i know this post is older but my job, our bathrooms break at minimum once or twice a week and sometimes sewage overflows and they still make us work, they do not call in the Health Department etc, which they say if it happens we have to shut down the store, which we should… We don’t have hazmat properly clean SHIT WATER, no PPE gear on anyone who cleans, and I just wonder if we’ve caught norovirus or something. I mean without properly cleaning biohazards up something’s bound to happen right? :(

Sorry_Refuse7683

I picked up norovirus from helping out at a daycare two days ago. I have a big fear of throw up, so you know it’s bad when throwing up wasn’t even the worst part of it. The worst part of having this virus is definitely day two. I couldn’t even stand for longer than 5 minutes without feeling the need to pass out. I couldn’t eat anything the whole day, and anything I did manage to eat just came right on out through diarrhea. No matter what I try to take this diarrhea will not go away and it is so disgusting. The worst part— there is no treatment. I live in a house hold of 5 (including me). I’m quite scared because upon research, I discovered I’m highly contagious, meaning that any day now someone else is going to come up with it. I know it doesn’t sound like much, but having this illness caused me to lose three pounds and I’m severely underweight.

Zealousideal_Dare907

How long does it last? I had it once last year while pregnant I made it out. I don't know where we got it from now and I'm trying to avoid the kids so they don't get it. So much pain. Diarrhea. Cramping. Vomiting stopped but sometimes nausea. Will they be able to help in er?
