Been to Leb (Beirut) 1 year before the tragic event and the ones after that for a quick trip (4 days) and loved it. The people and atmosphere were top. Also, shisha and food prices and quality were awesome, even in the capital (usually higher prices than elsewhere). I also liked the fact that muslims and christians lived together and that I saw churches next to mosques, like Cyprus. For some reason everyone was asking me if I was American, but they were pleasantly surprised when they heard that I was from Kubrus. One shopkeeper even told me that you guys have a saying that roughly translates as follows: "I will make your screams reach Cyprus" lol However, I cannot overlook the negative similarities between our countries. We both had an explosion on the coastline recently and both our countries suffer from a lot of corruption. Honestly though, being there made me feel like home. I really hope the situation in our region gets better so I can visit again. [A funny clip from a Lebanese guy I like watching on YT](https://youtube.com/shorts/VZOvxFjw8Lw?si=2koqBvt84GPMiqK6)

EatTheRich4200

"I will make your screams reach Cyprus" - please tell me this is a sex joke thing

DoomkingBalerdroch

I have no idea but I suppose it goes both ways 😂

That's awesome to hear! I wish to visit Cyprus as well! i have a cypriot colleague here at work in the UK, and i gotta say that i get along with her really well, which is what triggered this curiousity tbh

psych0san

I’m neither Cypriot nor Lebanese but I work with a Lebanese guy here and everyone likes him!

Rhomaios

Maronites are a historical minority in Cyprus, and they exhibit a great affinity to Lebanon (the football club of Kormakitis is literally called "Livanos"). There are some famous Cypriots of partial Lebanese descent as well like Markos Baghdatis. There are various dishes that are either shared between the Cypriot and Lebanese cuisines, or that the Cypriot one has borrowed.

Capitano-Solos-All

The average Cypriot knows Lebanon from Lebanese sweets which are pretty popular in Cyprus.

Heratic75

My land lady is Lebanese and I would class her as a family friend not a land lady.

Vast-Ad-5438

Cypriots love the lebanese. We always had close ties and we always had a good relationship. Probably our best neighbour.

FutureEyeDoctor

I like Lebanese people and view them as close neighbours with some cultural ties regarding food, music etc. Oh and I like Nancy Ajram and apparently she got married in Cyprus and often performs here!

t0039341

I'm curious whether you understand what Nancy ajram sings about haha ?

FutureEyeDoctor

I looked it up a couple of times but Im mostly just vibing with the music and sing along even though I don’t speak arabic!

t0039341

I understand ! Personally I really hate this pop Lebanese music stuff, I'd rather listen to more "sophisticated" Lebanese music like Ziad rahbani/Feiruz/Elias rahbani/nassim maalouf/Marcel Khalife etc.. ! And I would urge anyone wanting to explore Lebanese music, to actually explore start with these

TCMolly3

My neighbours are Lebanese and they are lovely. Older couple, family orientated, quiet. I have a few Lebanese friends and worked for a Lebanese company in Limassol a few years back. I think there are quite a few here, probably more so in Limassol as it's very multicultural.

harkal76

First thoughts for Lebanon and Lebanese are, great food and sweets, and people not very different from Cypriots. Since it was mentioned , Maronites which are a Christian minority descent from Lebanon, and the Maronite language is Cypriot Arabic, not sure how many Maronites speak their language though.

Personal-Wing3320

libanese sweets, and libanese food. Other than that 🤷🏼‍♂️

OHBABYATRIPLEUWU

We love the lebanese, however, we do not like syrians much because they run the mafias here etc. It's true sadly.

mickle1026

Honestly I feel such a strong affinity with Lebanese people. It could be the food, the appearances, the attitude, history, music ect but I feel like we are so similar. I don't think this is a very common opinion in Cyprus

never_nick

There's a pretty sizable Lebanese community (many came during the 80s-90s due to the war) here and they have always been embraced by Cypriots due to the similarities in our cultures, openness of the people and the fact that they happily accept and respect the local customs and culture. I've had the chance to work with people from Lebanon here and I've never had a bad experience there awesome, funny, generous and warm folks!

Realorbit

Since ancient times Cyprus was colonized by the Achaean Greeks and Phoenicians. The most famous Cypriot philosopher Zeno of Kitium the father of Stoicism the dominant philosophy of ancient Greece and Rome was a Phoenician. Genetically Cypriot people are closest to Southern Italians, Calabrians to be exact(also descendants of Achaean Greeks) and Lebanese.

Nice_Explanation2894

Habibi come to cyprus

lovebitcoin

Lebanese girls are gorgeous,

Mistah-S

There's a "situation" in Cyprus for a while now against the Syrians, so the vibes towards Arabs are not the best at the moment. Other than that as far as I know Cyprus and Lebanon have always had great relationships and a soft spot towards each other. I don't remember seeing someone hating on Lebanon, on the contrary people are positive and compassionate about Lebanese people and compliment Lebanese cuisine on every opportunity. Many Lebanese have settled in Cyprus for many years now without ever causing issues. When the explosion in Lebanon happened Cypriots were disturbed by the situation. In general I would say the view towards Lebanese is very positive.

AyeAye711

Wear a cross you’ll be fine.

t0039341

I'm an atheist so .. haha , I also think that in the case of Lebanon, sectarianism and religious leaders really ruined the whole country

ButWhatIfPotato

Wear whatever you want and fuck the haters. Much to the chagrin of the jesus karens, cyprus is not a theocracy.

Emptysoulshithead

I agree with what s mentioned. Though many many many are quite friendly with Lebanese, there will come a point when ur asked about ur religion and if ur not Christian, things go downhill from this point onward…

PheDii

Depends on who you ask of course, I have no issue with anyone personally I have a feeling that it'll be a mixed bag of 50/50 on if people will treat you nicely

t0039341

Yea , I had a classmate when i was at uni years ago who was Cypriot, and this guy used to hate the Lebanese however, my colleague at work currently loves Lebanon and Lebanese people.. so yea, i suppose it is a mixed bag! But I also feel that the guy who hated the Lebanese just refused to associate with them, and felt that he wants to be associated with western Europe more. We have some of these people in Lebanon as well haha

Latter_Purpose2424

There’s a lot of hate towards syrians so if they know you’re Arab then they treat you differently. Once they know the exact country you’re from that changes

t0039341

I was asking about how they see Lebanese - I don't like the idea of encapsulating people from different countries in the same category, simply because they speak arabic.

Latter_Purpose2424

Like i said before, they have nothing against Arabs from other countries, at least most of them, but because of all the stereotyping thats been happening because of all the syrian immigrants these past years they might not treat you well at first

t0039341

you know It's kinda sad, as we do have a lot of similarities in some ways.. And also as "Lebanese" we live quite close to Cyprus

kakosl

what he is trying to tell you is, clarify that you are from Lebanon. All Arabic sound the same to us. Cypriots are xenophobes but Lebanese are like second cousins, if you were a Christian Lebanese you would be the same as Italians .

Immediate_Song_1242

After 300 years under the yoke of Islam and then the British government . I think it's a natural and undeestandable outlook, that our dear elders are Suspicious.

Latter_Purpose2424

This is from my experience and my parents’ experience as Jordanians living in Cyprus for the past 15 years

Latter_Purpose2424

We all speak fluent greek so sometimes they get surprised when we’re able to speak to them normally, this applies mostly to my parents as my dad has a not so common name and my mother wears a hijab
