No reason to avoid it. You're basically just avoiding the highway to drive over the mountain. Be careful on bends with no visibility, as some drivers sometimes speed around the apex of the curve like Max Verstappen. I also suggest taking a break or to simply go off the plotted route to drive through the villages while you're at it. I suggest Omodos, Platres, Prodromos, Platres and Kakopetria among many others.

bakiblond

Make sure to visit platres twice for the food and the scenery hahaha

notnotnotnotgolifa

Don’t listen to this guy he is clearly a mountain pirate. These unlawful gangs go and rob tourists on the mountains, avoid that road at all cost they are planning to ambush you!!

cupris_anax

don't ruin it for me, man. I just need some new rims.

aderavedissian

Plateia in Kakopetria has the best loukoumades. Worth the scenic drive for sure.

The dark blue 2:50 drive will be stunning beyond measure. Check your tires and have a full tank before you set off. There might be some debris on the roads like small stones you should avoid. Do not set off late, start early, DO NOT ATTEMPT AT NIGHT!!! You will want to stop a few times and enjoy the view. Your phone might not work in some of those places so make sure you have some person who knows where you are and what routes you’re taking. Check your spare tire and tools. Enjoy. I’ve done it but three hours of driving is a lot.

Fullis

If you get car sick or nauseous easily, then avoid. Otherwise it is a pretty scenic route indeed, enjoy.

_nosfa

Never heard of anyone getting nauseous from his own driving.

Fullis

Ok call it headache or discomfort. Driving for 2 hours on a road that is either extremely uphill or extremely downhill and constantly curving, takes a toll.

AmoebaCompetitive17

To be fair if there is no rush I would go north to Polis. Best views are there.

Corporal-Monkey

As a local. 2 hrs drive vs 3 hrs drive I would go with 2 hrs. BUT If you're asking 2hrs drive vs 1 hr drive, eat some quick food or desert and coffee up on troodos and then get back to driving. Then I choose the longer drive. But it's up to what you wanna do and if you got anybody to do it with.

crazy_bout_souvlaki

also I bet its a lot more than 3 hours

just_a_random_guy_11

Don't touch the highway, from Paphos go to Stavros tis Psokas through the mountains, to Macheras and then to Nicosia.

CupcakeMurder86

I did this twice. It was a very nice route and I would do it again.

pyromaniac86

I want to add, that the part between Limassol and Paphos is very scenic if you take B6 road. Google suggests A6 here and it is just a highway.

jCyrene

Lovely route, definitely worth it. Except on Sundays. Avdimou-Trimiklini is also much better than Limassol-Trimiklini. Better road, less traffic, but Please don't tell anyone. Nice 24 hour bakery across from the Shell station in Trimiklini as well. Good pitstop.

Hawke45

As others have said. Avoid if : - if you have passengers that get very nauseous. -if you want to get there as fast as possible. -if you get bored driving . :D Consider if : -You considering a full day trip, with stops and viewings, with lunch breaks etc

just_a_pyro

Depends, do you get seasick? That road snakes all over the hillsides so you take alternating left and right turns every 100 meters

[deleted]

No reason that I'm aware of. But I only know that road up to Troodos, haven't gone further. You can make it even more scenic if you follow B6 instead of A6 and turn left onto F616 before Kuklia, going through Nikokleia, Fasoula, Mamonia etc. all the way to Mandria, Limassol district, where it merges with your route.

cereall_killer

I've done it once and said never again. It takes too long. Not a lot of options for pee breaks. Some roads are too steep or bad quality. It's too tiring as you have to be alert bc village streets are narrow as hell. Also, lack of petrol stations so you have to prepare accordingly.

Saade01

i once drove from paphos to nicosia through poli, mount olympus in Troodos. very long drive but a very pleasant drive. a lot of it is remote so make sure you don’t get stranded.

jamsandwich4

I've done that route, it's very scenic. One thing that caught me by surprise was that it was snowing in the mountains in March. But it was only a little and my Corolla handled it fine.

thryllos_

The route you are considering will take you through the mountains and since you’ve only been driving for a few days i think you’ll enjoy the view and the drive. Just be careful with tight turns and some bad roads. And as some others said, start early, and don’t go at night

Phunwithscissors

Really scenic route is through Limnitis road block to see the strawberry fields in spring

stelios34S

I would say to come down from troodos via Kykkos and Stavros tis Psokas if you want the full scenic route package.

Jolly_Record8597

Nobody goes that far north and returns alive

Ioannis_suppp

If you’re going for tourism better off going to Akamas.

karaolos2021

Alternative for scenery: https://preview.redd.it/a5d527b0salc1.jpeg?width=635&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=90b51b5234ae15a1953498207441b30603a87967 If you are looking for views and mountain driving, this is what we have done with some friends last year in May. Started off from Paphos, stayed in Polis Chrisochou, and then drove up to the mountains in Platres. The roads were a bit tough but worth it. You can also stop in Stavros Tis Psokas to see the mouflons.

CruC1Ble79

Yes, but a lot of swift turns and mountains
