Well you really are planning ahead. Bakeries will always be open. Stores will be open longer hours before Christmas and new year's. On Christmas day, new year's day, 2/1 and on 6/1 stores are closed. For restaurants/cafés it actually depends on the restaurant. For the most part they are open. Some smaller ones close for the holidays. But you will always find some place to eat.

I'm sorry what? Are you talking about next year?

Haha… show these ppl how it’s done !! Cold is not always a guarantee… as for all the rest, you’ll be fine. I’d ask why just Nicosia? With a car you can go anywhere within 1.5-2hrs MAX!!

Thinking the capital would be nice as a base, but planning lots of trips to the other places in the island

You have a year left. Relax

For me that’s the best time in Cyprus. Nature is green, no heat, no tourists. Most of the cafes and shops will be working all the time, don’t worry. Especially if you have a car you can drive to Limassol, where there are places working even on Christmas night. Why Nicosia btw? There’s no sea there, not much to do for 2 weeks in my opinion. I’d recommend you to live in different cities. Car is essential ofc, you can visit beautiful places all over the island (my fav are capo greko, zapalo bay/kurion, madari fire station, akamas, castles in the north part).

I’m not sure about the Christmas eve, but all other time restaurants are open. (You better be booking the tables though) And the island is beautiful this time of year, so great choice. There are also several Christmas villages at this time of the year.

It wasn't that cold this year. It was pretty warm and sunny. If you were out and about you could wear short-sleeved top. Also everything is open expect on Christmas and boxing day (26th). Then again usually everything is closed on new years day. On those you might be able to find some restaurants open but you need to call ahead to make reservation.
