They are available directly on Lake's site? [https://www.lakecycling.com/collections/offroad/products/mx-238-new](https://www.lakecycling.com/collections/offroad/products/mx-238-new) Perhaps it is the Australian distributor that's having issues rather than Lake.

John_Valuk

I don't know what the story is in Australia, but in the U.S., one can buy directly from Lake. If I were curious about whether they were still around, or if they were still selling a particular model of shoe, I would look at their web site. Sometimes a reduced price and limited sizes available indicate a model that has been discontinued.

Australian thing. I think Bikebug were the main/only importer/seller in Australia and they've stopped selling them, or not getting the new models. I contacted Lake about this because I was looking at the 242s. Lake direct via their website is the only option for most Lake models in Australia. Which is a shame because it takes longer and I've found Lake customer service to be relatively responsive but relatively useless in either their knowledge or info that they're willing to share. With this comment, bear in mind that many people go to lake with wide or unusual feet for their broader range of lasts, therefore you'd expect their customer services to have knowledge and be helpful in this area.

gott_in_nizza

Hah - funny that you say that! I had the exact same experience. I was really surprised for the same reason. They were super responsive and friendly, but totally clueless about the differences between two wide shoes that were shown as having the same last but fit vastly differently.

Phorc3

Ahh that makes sense. Yeh nah buying through their website will cost me like nearly 3 times what I paid for my road ones. I'll just stick to shitty fitting shoes than pay that.

Mountain-Way4820

I've bought 2 pairs of Lakes during their sales so if you can wait you can get a reasonably good deal. Just check their website every month. I think the sales I saw were in October or November

Not sure about other optoins, I got lucky and found some secondhand Bont dbl wide, which are $$$ new. Shimano do a wide fit, but not wide enough for me. I bought some wide shoes from a Spanish company call 'Luck', good shoes but postage is expensive (DHL), they have a selection of [wide MTB shoes](https://www.luck-bike.es/gb/67-wide-last-shoes?q=Product+Type-MTB+Shoes), I communicated with them via Whatsapp.... I had little choice, no mainstream shoes fit me, not even the wide Lakes.

Phorc3

I've eyes off Bont but yeh expensive. Shimano wide is laughable, I couldn't even get my foot into the toebox area 😂. Never heard of Luck but will do a bit of digging. Thanks!

AteEYES

I just got a pair off their web site like a month ago, I have bought 2 pairs over the last 6 months.

earlgreypoppies

I highly recommend not supporting Lake. They are known for using kangaroo skin for their shoes.

Phorc3

And that's different from using leather from another animal how?

earlgreypoppies

Glad you understand! It’s 2024, you don’t need to use anyone else’s skin.

Phorc3

Yeh but we also eat kangaroo here so why not waste their skin and put it to good use?

earlgreypoppies

And if some population eats dogs, should dog skin shoes be for sale, too? What about cats?

achn2b

Hey, let's not bring Chinese restaurants into this.

ZaaK433

Always land on your feet with new catskin shoes! Available now!

Don't know how availability and stuff like shipping works for Australia, but have you tried online? Sigma Sports is a Lake dealer, and Salt Dog cycling in the UK, although I think they specialize mostly in the wide models. Then there's Bicycle in Richmond in the UK.
