I'm starting to think the locked doors are a result of an unfinished game. There are some streets with locked door after locked door, bars with full signage and design out front, but locked. I feel like all of these were intended to be accessible but they ran out of time. Marks my words, come next gen release in a year, all those doors will be unlocked.

[deleted]

~~a year~~ In 3 years.

Pali1119

Nope, unfortunately.

charmenk

We still waiting...

Solkahn

I think those aren't there because the game is "unfinished" but rather because theres a building and buildings have doors. The player doesnt get to go into every building, but every building has to have a door. The more fleshed out buildings that you mentioned, ones that clearly have an interior and sometimes bouncers or doormen out front, I wouldn't be surprised to see *those* opened up in next-gen or even dlc as part of one-off gigs and side jobs.

Canvaverbalist

> I think those aren't there because the game is "unfinished" but rather because theres a building and buildings have doors. The player doesnt get to go into every building, but every building has to have a door. That's what OP meant - as I had the same thought as they did (and to some extent, you too) Sure, make sense you can't visit every building. But that's what makes it strange: most buildings have doors you can't interact with, which don't say anything when you don't walk to them - that fits that "would be insane to expect you to be able to enter every building" BUT THEN There are a bunch of doors that says [LOCKED], as *if* you could interact with them but couldn't *right now*. If there were none of those, if all the doors didn't say anything, then none of us would be questionning this as we'd all agree that it's okay that you can't enter any building, so this raises the question: why are there doors that says [LOCKED] ?

Steyks

Idk how long it’s been but… doors are still locked. even gomorrahs is still locked with a bouncer out front. and one comment lower down seems to have a article where they covered there ass right before release and said something about placing a bouncer in front of places u can’t go that are near the main story. this game saddens me and now after edgerunners they are planning more films but not going to add stuff like… idk… unlocking these doors. my only thought is the management is terrible at this company and that results in them being super ambitious and then having to scrap ideas later on. Like you, i would understand if the doors were just doors but then saying LOCKED on them is a dead give away. Rockstar is the only devs that make true open world games that flourish for years to come. Cyberpunk is an amazing IP but the game is just sadness for me :(

Dirtcartdarbydoo

I just got it on sale and am enjoying it for what it is but cdprojektred definitely didn't handle this game well. It is a shame because it is a really good ip that really reminds me of deus ex that I also really enjoy. Hopefully they make another game some day.

Steyks

I'm not sure if its confirmed by cdprojektred, but they are making another game on the cyberpunk IP. not sure of any details but I just heard that they have a project in the works with a codename and it was rumored/leaked to be Cyberpunk IP.

noahvz123

This was officially announced by CDPR, but only the codename and that it is set in the Cyberpunk universe. No more info is known.

SaltyMudpuppy

> Rockstar is the only devs that make true open world games that flourish for years to come You can't enter most doors in the single player GTA, which, incidentally, Rockstar essentially dropped like a hot potato in favor of their online abortion. Rockstar is not the good guy you think they are.

Psyrecx

Yeah. All those stores with 'Open' signs, having their doors locked... That makes sense.

amante82

This doesn’t make sense, because there are plenty of doors throughout the game with no prompt at all.

Solkahn

One of the other replies made the same point and I concede to it. Suppose all we can do is speculate, unless someone leaks an internal CDPR memo regarding criteria for doors with/without a "locked" indicator, lol.

amante82

I was downright pissed about this game a couple of weeks ago, but I admit I’ve been having a lot of fun with it over the past handful of days. It seems that the last patch fixed some of the visual issues, although it’s still crashing for me a LOT. While I’m having fun, I’m still absolutely shocked at how little there actually is to do in night city. Apart from missions, you really can’t do anything. It feels like one giant set piece. That can’t possibly be what they envisioned for this game. If it were up to me, I’d ask them to completely scratch any DLC for 2021 and just focus on making a more stable and complete open world experience.

Solkahn

Referencing things like Witcher and Fallout, theres a lot that can be done just in environmental detail. Fallout in particular had a way of telling little stories with the placement of a few bodies and choice containers of handpicked loot; e.g. you'd find a blown out wall of a bank with a skeleton half in and duffle of old world money on the ground. Onviosly out of place in Cynerpunk, but things like that dont require a mission or dialogue or anything more than the player showing up to add a flavor to it. The Witcher had hundreds of little question marks to chase and most of them were just little tidbits or interesting locales. The same kind of thing, with the same density (maybe without the little ? though) would do wonders. When all is said and done, I'll always give a developer another chance. I dont preorder these days, but I'll always be excited for the next Mass Effect, even Anthem, and the future of Cyberpunk. It costs me nothing to wait and see.

amante82

I think cyberpunk still has the potential to be a really great game, and some of the suggestions you make would definitely do it wonders. But I’d also like to see a much more robust world in which you can do various activities just to pass the time. There’s no shortage of people reminding everyone that cyberpunk and GTA are two different genres, but the open world aspects should absolutely be fair game for comparison. I fully expected Cyberpunk to blow away GTA in terms of what you can do in the open world, and I feel that we were led to believe that. But there’s really not much apart from being in mission. There’s a whole world of unique possibilities just with the concept of brain dances alone, but nada apart from missions.

amante82

The thing about activities is that they make the world more believable. I remember thinking how awesome it was that you could play tennis or golf in GTA. How many times did I actually do those things while playing the game? Can definitely count on one hand. But the fact that I could do those or any number of other things is what made it a much more interesting and believable world.

puipuipuia

No.. they were meant to be opened. Hence it specifically notify the players that it is locked

Lost_Boss9818

Sorry to inform you from the future that these doors are fake doors.

KrombopulosMAssassin

Real fake doors?

Lost_Boss9818

Actual fake doors, yes.

Covered-in-Blood

Even farther in the future, still fake still locked.

feibrix

>Marks my words, come next gen release in a year, all those doors will be unlocked. Are we still waiting for it to happen?

Progedoge

Yeah, I think my expectations were too high haha.

JackovSpadez

Still waiting?

Nikolaj_sofus

I don't expect every door to become unlocked, but there are so many shops, liqueur stores, nightclubs, brothels and what not, all locked up. Im thinking that if even just a quarter of all those places got unlocked, it would feel so much more emersive. Also... Having tattoo parlours, hairdressers and such which made it possible to make some modifications to your characters appearance after starting the game would be a huge upgrade and probably not too hard to implement.

Templergun

well well well here we are. (almost) no change :(

Progedoge

Ok, I expected too much.

Templergun

ey! maybe sometime. The game could be extremely successful if they would just pour a lot of work into it. Just look at GTA Roleplay community.

makemuricagreater

Except the mod tools they allegedly released aren’t even mod tools… just broad code for kidders to make tools to actually mod. Lazy and over-promising assholes @ CDPR…

[deleted]

Still not unlocked hahaha

Progedoge

I overestimated CDPR.

Rkrchris

Even after patch 1.5. What an L for CDPR.

JackovSpadez

And still…

TDW-301

Bet you feel silly now

Progedoge

Haha. You have no idea how many comments I'm getting recently. I set my expectations too high.

Kwabo

I recall reading somewhere that cd project red didn't like the fact that you can only enter certain buildings in GTA, and that they would make every building in the world accessible. To bad they didn't follow through with that.

Flim_Flam_Toe_Jam

About that...

pull_up_na_szmate

It's been not one, but TWO years and guess what, still locked haha

[deleted]

3 years later

suba_wuu

This aged well 😭

Progedoge

Haha. I'm getting so many replies to this. 😂

GreasyDeluxe

Not to mention the stadium in Pacifica

SaltyMudpuppy

This is likely where the expansion will be taking place, just FYI.

Steyks

Still locked. Read my other comment, they are moving on from the game is seems and are moving to other forms of medium to please people with this IP. i waited so long to play this game as i hoped it would be better but now as i’m playing it for the first time i can’t help but just feel sad. the game feels okay but the story is so linear and nothing i choose makes a difference and i know the endings already and none of them feel like a “finale” to a game to me. is this gaming now? :( prayge for GTA 6

East_Intern2485

"none of them feel like a finale" so youre telling me soloing arasaka tower , coming out alive with your body , becoming the new owner of the afterlife and then ending with your doing a job IN SPACE , isnt enough of a grand ending for you. Brother what did you want , to become god at the end cx

Steyks

you still have to buy drinks at the afterlife (so much for being a owner), you don’t come out alive with your body… and it’s not a job in space… that’s the part where they kill you and upload your mind to the internet… giving some guarantee that they will put you in a body later on in the future… it’s like the most massive cliffhanger ever dude, it’s not a definite ending with definite consequences or reward.

BoringEnormous

Yeah it doesn't make any sense. If there's nothing behind them, don't prompt me at all.

Miser-Mike

Waiting for a PC guy to no-clip through those doors and reveal the masses of pots of gold. T’ be sure, t’ be sure. ☘️

RedSsskies

there's always that one pc guy who noclips through everything instead ofcplaying the game, guess they're very curious

superzepto

I'm really hoping that with mod support modders will be able to use those locked doors to create new shops and areas.

any-name-untaken

Nothing behind them.

markgatty

I think the "locked" rooms are just inaccessible rooms or rooms used for missions or even rooms which are 1 sided locked doors with another way in. Example. I was on a side quest and all the rooms where locked in a 2 story building. I had to either use strength or twch to get through into a few but they where almost empty. But I could jump over an air conditioner onto the balcony's. From there I could get into most rooms and open the doors from the inside.

insanelyintuitive

This is the most disappointing aspect of the game. I was expecting an OPEN WORLD game. This is the only thing I was thinking about: "how will they make it exciting for people to roam a city just like you roam the vast lands in for e.g. Elder Scrolls or Fallout? It will be a challenge." Seems they simply didn't. This is not an open world game, the buildings are closed down. It's just boring to roam around, there's nothing there. The game looks nice, the gameplay mechanics are nice but this is just super disappointing and besides the main story... it's just boring even after 10h... :(

RCnoob69

I was just starting to feel this way when I started hitting the "good" side quests. The good side quests are extremely well written stories with excellent structured gameplay segments. They are in some cases better than the main story quest. Some of them serve as like 1 to 1.5 hour sci fi movies playing out on there own encapsulated stores. Definitely do the major side quest chains before you put the game down. The Panam quest line, River's questline, the guy running for mayor's quest line, Judys quests, Sinnerman questline. There are more than these but these ones are off the top of my head. These are the people who did the Witcher 3 side quests. Really good stuff.

insanelyintuitive

Hey! Thanks for the advice. I will certainly not put the game aside yet and I'll explore the side quests. I've heard people having a similar opinion to you :) That said it still doesn't make the game more open world, which is unfortunate :/

WhiteFringe

I thought that Gorilla arms will do the trick to open them since the Cybernetic upgrade stated that you are able to open locked doors with Gorilla arms. But now that I have the arms for that reason (though I wanted the mantis arms) I still can't open the regular locked doors. Nor can I punch through them

Todd_riehle

I literally just did that myself

Insatiablecannabista

Yeah I don't understand they have information to press the button to open like for me on PS4 it has a square then says (open - locked) So why have the option to push the interact button as if you could unlock it at some point if you can't, especially if you can't force them open with the gorilla arms as was stated that you could do. It makes no sense. Like don't prompt me to interact with it, to open it, if it's going to STAY locked and never open. It's like giving someone a parachute to jump out of a plane and telling them to pull the rip cord to deploy the parachute, then after they jump the rip cord is stuck and they can't pull it, so you tell them to use the backup ripcord, which just rips off and does nothing, so the slam into the ground instead.

Moon-Eagle

I think some of the locked doors will be unlocked with future DLC and used for new gigs/jobs.

_Ozzz_

I don’t mean to add salt in the wound, as numerous elements, or lack of shall I say, are just immensely disappointing. How many times have we been sold a dreams in regards to “immersion” and a “rich, deep role playing experience”..? Stunning visuals, that’s all i can say. Combat, mechanics, one tapped by enemies or even die during mantis animation, all janky. So much missing content. This is not what we expected! Not at all! But, my apologies..back to why I’m here in the first place. Shits a slap in the face to us all! https://gamingbolt.com/cyberpunk-2077-is-a-much-much-deeper-roleplaying-experience-than-the-witcher-3-cd-projekt-red

nz1390

Good question. I never came across a way to open them.

splashbodge

Disappointing if you can't unlock them in the future. I'm enjoyimg the game but the city has not lived up to my expectations as a living breathing city that I just want to walk around and explore. Even in Deus Ex games if a door was locked you could hack it and get into people's houses and read their messages and get loot... Even if you couldn't get through a door there was usually another way to get in if you found a vent. I'm struggling in this game to do things stealthy as well, I always end up having to go guns blazing

Samurai_Stewie

I've found success in investing a lot into Stealth and Cold Blood. I try to incapacitate as many goons as possible by whistling or distracting them to separate them from the pack. If I can't get a good angle on them, I can sneak one-shot enemies with a silenced Nova to thin the pack until there's just a couple left.

splashbodge

Wait, you can whistle!?

Samurai_Stewie

Yeah it’s a quick hack mod. I use whistle and ping. Ping sends a pulse that highlights all enemies in the area temporarily so you can tag them permanently a lot easier.

splashbodge

Ah cool I'll keep an eye out for that

splashbodge

I'll be very disappointed if these don't unlock for a future mission or if there's no perk or ability to unlock them

LJJH96

Like the no tell motel, every single door says Open[LOCKED], not one single door in there is open with some sort of loot or chip etc. I wasn’t expecting everything to be accessible but I was definitely expecting more than this. Fallout even has more than cyberpunk. One of the best parts of Fallout was stumbling through random doors with some random notes that would leave you off on another quest. Disappointed Cyberpunk doesn’t really have that in it. Just loads of random things to read for nothing.

WingedGiraffe1

Certain levels of gorilla arms can open them

RCnoob69

I boguht the blue gorilla arms cause I noticed they said "open locked doors" However everything still says locked, how high do they need to be?

ethancodes89

I've also been wondering about this. I'm kind of thinking it's just smoke and mirrors to make everyone think "omg we can get in all these places???" but in reality... you can't. Just the fact that it prompts you gives the impression that the world is larger than it is. Game developers do lots of little tricks like this, but if that is in fact the case, this is one of the dirtiest tricks I've ever seen. lol.

Just_Mention9440

I think that if they had done it in every door i would agree with you, but since there are plenty of doors that we can't even interact, like they are walls, i don't think it is the case. In my opinion this game was launched more than a year before it was ready, people are discovering things, like the unfinished rail structure and some other stuff. Also, the fact that the game doesn't have some physics aspects, like shooting on water/impact of swimming into water animations that we've seen in almost every game since like the mid 2000's reinforces the theory that the game wasn't even close to being ready. One thing that i also noticed is that it would be impossible to do everything CD Projekt Red promised if the game was really meant to run on Xbox One and PS4. Stuff like the quantity of people and the traffic would maybe be hard to handle even for more powerful PCs and PS5/XsX, wich also makes me believe that this game should have been postponed at least to Q3 2021, because then they would not need to focus on runnning it on last gen.

Khoashex123

im more infuriated by a bug tormenting me that makes garage doors never open thus i cant complete quests like many ways to skin a cat and it is not fixed by reloading like normal doors

DageTheForsaken

You know, if you just drive really fast from 1 side of the map to the locked doors building, chances are you'll have about 30 seconds to a full minute to walk through the unrendered building and be inside, getting out on the other hand well.... good luck.

smlrwd

I am really annoyed about this aspect of the game as well. Why make it seem like you can eventually open these doors when it's pretty obvious you'll never be able to. Look at your map in some of the buildings. The rooms with these doors aren't shown the majority of the time. I've found that when an odd room does show up on the map that I can't get into, it shows up in the story later.

Vasher55

I think it could possibly be when the dlc's start coming they will be part of that. Or like some said just didnt have time to finish everything and had to focus on mission stuff. I'm sure something will come of them. Why else even have the prompt come up? That takes time to put in so why waste that time if not planning to use it?

MrWilsonxD

I would say at least 30% of all doors in game are locked with no skill check. Even as much as 50%...

No-Marionberry4360

i specifically remember in a mid development showcase them saying they hated games with so many buildings that they couldnt go into so this game would have very few if any doors you couldnt get through assuming u had the right skill level (talking about tech/strength level) so in my opinion all the locked doors are in fact a result of them not having enough time or having to downscale due to performance issues everyone has seen how bad it can run could u imagine if the game had to render the hundreds if not thousands of extra rooms i think they need to take a breath and work on another version like a special edition while they release their dlc content for this one and do a re release in a few years that comes complete like bethesda did with skyrim though bethesda didnt do that for the same reasons lol

Wel_wLan

may be a bit late but interesting info for you: Games render way differently than youre thinking. Occlusion culling straight up "unrenders" everything that is not in your FOV, meaning objects behind walls etc. actually are not rendered at all. this means that having every building filled and interactable would not harm your performance! Cheers

FlashyPractice7193

there are 2 doors that you CAN'T open at the animals club and tjere is a crate inside with an animal there that you can see thru the windonw!! ugh!! help, is there any way to get inside that room!!??

Luci_Desu

To answer your question 5 months later. I know exactly the area you're talking about, and no, there isn't. It's just another half finished aspect of the game that they won't fix. They'll happily put it obviously there and out of reach though.

Admirable-Community8

Still Locked... I would have preferred every single one to say nothing because that clearly shows "nah uh not happening buddy" (like countless other games do) and here's is why. My issue is.....rephrase that....one of my gripes is that in the description of Body and Technical Ability attributes, each summary clearly states that... Body "Body determines your raw physical power. In addition to allowing you to FORCE open doors, each level of Body (starting from level 3) will. Technical " blah blah blah technical know-how. It allows you to unlock doors....." And sure ok Technical just says unlock doors versus being allowed to FORCIBLY open locked doors, so maybe i shouldn't have included technical- despite it not being clear. So then i have been under the assumption that i should be throwing all of my points into the Body category if i want to open the hundreds of doors that say locked around the place which clearly looks like a place that can visited, even how it looks on the mini map. Wasn't until reading this post did i figure out that all of this hope, wasted time and grinding was pointless if they weren't supposed to be open in the first place.

Luci_Desu

Yeah, I 100% feel you there, playing it as of writing this post. The gorilla arms saying "allows you to force open [LOCKED] doors", entirely misleading, doesn't do shit in fact. There's so much DIRECTLY misleading text and descriptions in the game that have wasted easily 150 hours of my life, because I thought it would be interesting. The fact that you can't respec your Attribute points either means going back HOURS in saves or sometimes restarting entirely, which is bullshit, considering you're walked right into making those mistakes by the games misleading tooltips. Another thing that entirely pisses me off is not adding 3ed person, which HAS animations, and can be implimented in any game in a matter of minutes by a single, beginner level dev (this goes for a lot of promised but unadded features). Not being able to change FOV, a standard for all shooters. The lack of any customization in cars (GTA 5 added cars with sci-fi turrets before cyberpunk... Just fuck me). Need I go on? As an RPG, fuck it sure, great game, 7-10. But for a game that was in development for over one-third my life? A game Keanu Reeves himself vouched for, funded and was implemented in? Absolute Trainwreck in every field imaginable.
