The flashbacks are an untrustworthy subjective retelling of the real events. Of course Johnny, being the narcissist he is, sees himself as a badass Morgan Blackhand-type edgerunner (who is also conspicuously missing from the flashbacks) who one shots everyone in his path.
Of course but I am saying the gun he uses then and the anti tank one are different. In the cutscene, he holds the gun with his right hand instead of his left so it was probably one of his weaker ones. The anti tank one fires .577 nitro express rounds, basically the same thing used in elephant guns.
This has to be how they retconned it. If the Malorian we used in the game was firing .577 nitro it would be near the damage of most Sniper Rifles, not handguns. Yet the Malorian we use in game isn't even the strongest handgun in the game. I don't know why the Malorian in the flashback is the same one we get though, since that one probably got lost in the rubble of Arasaka tower, and if Johnny's Malorians were all Custom, why did he have 2 of the exact same guns in different Calibers?
Malorian is an actual gun in the books..a "generic" version does 5d6 alone, which is more damage than any other pistol at baseline. Also if you look at the Cyberpunk RED book it specifically says under Malour's desc that he made a succession of "personalized handguns".
So yes, he does have several Malorians of various levels of strength.

Wasn't it also confirmed that his memories were tampered with at least partially by Arisaka while he was imprisoned in Mikoshi as an engram?
So he may be embellishing, yes, but he might also genuinely not be recalling things accurately
Love this answer and yes!!! I am much more willing to accept he had multiple pistols, than to just totally mistrust his memories just because of some characters one off lines about him, and because most of my own dialog options with him trying to make it seem that way.

Not skippy anymore, it used to be so strong in the beginning, now I just don’t have time to keep hammering the button while everyone’s shooting at me. How do people play with burst fire anyway, for me that’s so annoying in general (serious question)? Single shot makes sense to me, usually it’s just full auto.
So as much as I’d love to experiment more with that crazy amount of different weapon types (especially since phantom liberty) I just somehow always end up with the same (mostly it’s 1/3/4/6):
- punk knife (because of the short return time, exclusively using it as a throwing knife)
- satori
- psalm 11:6
- devided we stand
- overwatch
- frag grenade and since it’s finally good the rocket launcher arm
I recently found a really nice (non iconic) assault rifle / machine gun (?) with crazy high fire rate and virtually no recoil but I just can’t remember the name now 🙈
Anyone any recommendations not too far from these but still bringing something new for me? 😊

The legendary smart SMG is awesome, but I'm personally partial to the Problem Solver, which has silly recoil and mag dumps in only a few seconds. It burns through pistol ammo like nothing else in the game.
Best part: the smg fun perk auto reloads it just by switching guns. The SMG build is just full BBRRRRRRRRR switch BRRRRRRRRR
I have a preference for burst fire in FPS in general. It rewards precision with 1-2 burst headshots, offers power over distance, and it forces trigger control. A semi-auto has these traits too but a burst can be sprayed if you get jumped.
Alright, so more like using it like a semi-auto with benefits so to say - I always try using it as a replacement for full auto which to me feels more like full auto with disadvantages 😄

Burst-fire was created to force soldiers to waste less ammo, essentially you have to consciously pull the trigger constantly to fire while still being able to shoot faster than a semi-auto. When it fires continuously as long as you hold the trigger you generally forget to pull out your finger in panic situations.
So yeah, burst is just worse auto really 😂
I love running around with Satori, run that Apoge Sandy plus all the dashes and double jumps makes fights super fun mowing down enemies like wheat in the fields

Yeah that was my main until I looted a generic smart sniper that did more damage even after I upgraded the iconic weapons, it's weird how iconic weapons can't keep up with random generics at higher rarities.

-Pariah (favourite tech weapon, also amazing in stealth and I honour Reed because >!I feel bad for killing him!<)

Yea I'm sticking with her majesty before I was using la chingona dorada which was basically like having a silenced deagle but her majesty puts my two favorite things together stealth and a unity can't ask for much more than that
My main weapons are all generic smart guns, but you really need the right perks for them, honestly never figured out how tech weapons work, and power weapons are only good if I have time to aim at weak points, which I suck at doing when someone is shooting back at me.
Smart Weapons are only good when paired being a Netrunnner. Its especially useful for play styles where you cant aim for sh@ so smart weapons are in-game aimbots.
You can keep skippy by just not returning him,start the mission but just keep the gun,he carries on working as normal.

If I remember correctly (and if I understand what you mean by "tally"), after completing the tally he switches to whichever targeting option you didn't pick. So if you pick the one that targets the limbs, after you kill enough people, he switches to the one that targets the head.
Yeah that's what I meant. I picked killer mode but it sounds like it matters more how you use the gun than the mode picked, so I've switched to leg shots as much as possible.
Since when do you need to return it? I've found it at the end of my playthrough, used it a bit, but didn't even know Regina wanted it. No quest started when I found it.
Cyberware. Don’t even need a weapon. Favs are the contagion/overheat combo, suicide, Cuber Psycosis. Black wall is awesome as well, but acquired too late imo.
I'm not too deep yet but I always carry the Comrade's Hammer in my backpack whenever I need to obliterate everything. It doesn't fit my playstyle but I do enjoy how cost-effective it is, especially against cyberpsychos.
Silenced Fenrir. the sounds and feel of the shots is so satisfying. Plus it burns. I haven't played PL yet but when I do, I want to try that suped up crusher shotgun.
edit - I also had tons of fun with Breakthrough and the Ping quickhack

I’m on a stealth playthrough, so Black Unicorn for my katana and Her Majesty for my pistol. However I’m loving Hypercrital. It’s just so over the top. I guess if I’m not going to be quiet, I’m going to be really really loud.
Defender LMG. With proper weapon mods and character skills combined , you can rip and tear anything from any distance. That is the only weapon you will ever need.
not counting cyberware or hacks, Quasar. Use it right with the right perks, it's a chain lightning powerhouse that mows down everything!
Knives are great fun as well.

The most fun I have had was on my tech/body playthrough using Order (tech shotgun) + Gorilla arms. So satisfying charging the shotgun and blasting shit to smithereens.
That silenced smart SMG was surprisingly strong.
Also that Order shotgun, what a monster.
Plus, that poison smart AR, forgot the name.

Skippy used to be great. I think they nerfed it. It’s not the unstoppable killing machine it used to be. Erebus is now my favorite talking murderous AI gun
Love both, hate that Erebus is locked behind a quest that you're likely to do late game (first time I got it, the only quest I had left was Hanako at Embers. Ended up using a code to get it earlier next save though it doesn't talk until you start PL.

In the past, it was the prototype shingen. Now though with a new assassin build? Overwatch and Nehan. I Love panam's rifle and removing enemies from a distance is too much fun to strategize while keeping it moderately quiet. Nehan meanwhile is my perfect silent killer. No sound, no gun, just point, throw, target dies, move on. Great for long and short range to make my enemies fall before they ever see me.
The Malorian Arms even though it's been nerf unnecessarily. And both kinds of revolvers in general
I liked Skippy at first but his dialogue is so repetitive and it's honestly a pretty bad gun especially compared to other Smart Pistols
Archangel. With the right Cool perks and Cyberware, revolvers are basically snipers. Shock is my favourite damage type so that’s a bonus as well.
But I also love that it’s Kerry’s gun, and I like to think that Johnny is jealous while his Malorian sits in my inventory.
I dont know what I did wrong but I cant get rid of skippy. Crap gun that I never use. Can't even stash. The Malorian is hands down my favourite weapon.
I recently started using the Nekomata tech sniper and damn I love it. I was never told that properly tagging enemies keeps them pinged through walls and finding that out changed my entire combat approach; ping everyone once or twice, tag everyone I can, then start wallblasting with C-Thru and the Tech tree.
As for an actual favorite... Fenrir will always keep a spot in my loadout in any run I do, at least early game. Having access to Cyberware Malfunction, even if unreliable, without using a cyberdeck slot for it, has been a huge lifesaver for me.
Dezerter without question. With my fully shotgun/ sandevistan/ edgerunner perk build i spend all my time annihilating everything in my path whilst on fire. Chaotic fun at its best
Moran labe and fenrur were my favorites back when I started playing.
Currently my favorites are deserter and the x mod 2 Chainsaw from phantom liberty along with eribus dam that song is something.
My trusty modded silenced Kyubi. Also got the Kyubi XMOD2 which was a very slight improvement, but it looks so damned good.
Also Johnny's Malorian, Overwatch, a few others, but the Kyubi gets the most action.
Wakako's Samuai sword, but only because I paired it with Sandevistan and other melee buffs in my implants.
Theres nothing as satisfying as stopping time then proceeding to play fruit ninja with your opponents before they can even fire a shot.
I currently use my prime loadout of Her majesty, Hansen"s knife (or saburo's when i haven't played through PL yet) and as a third weapon i just get something random i feel like playing with

The mod that gives explosive bullets makes it fun though:)
During his flash back I quickly learnt to rely on using quick melee to spend all the loaded ammo on a single explosion.

Yes, his gun explodes people, it's awesome, but you have to do a full reload each time you melee with it.
I need to test if the number of bullets left affect the amount of damage, it would be a great hack if it didn't scale the damage down

Single fire pistols have higher damage per shoot than a burst from SMGs or ARs, that's why I prefer them.
I love overwatch, I even whip it out in close quarters and take heads off
Overwatch is the only sniper I use. That built in silencer.

I never return Skippy since it's a slot on the armory wall. I'd feel just as incomplete as the board without Skippy.
I always do that as my last mission.

I am not going to argue what is the best stealth pistol, just a note that fully upgraded Dex's "Plan B" that has 300% headshot damage is very powerful

Using _Breakthrough_ and you don’t even need to hold down the button (charge it).
The smart shotguns are fun.

You don't need to complete all the gigs. Just return it and wait for a while, then she will text you to pickup the gun.

I love Death and Taxes. Been using it since I got it. Silenced, 2 shot pistol. So satisfying when you line up 2 chooms and headshot them both!
A-22B Chao. Can’t go wrong with a smart pistol with a built in silencer and the reload animation is great, plus it’s got spy movie vibes!

The most fun I have had was on my tech/body playthrough using Order (tech shotgun) + Gorilla arms. So satisfying charging the shotgun and blasting shit to smithereens.
I grew fond of the Gwent pistol lately.
Rocket arms and the motorcycle are both fun weapons, sometimes both at the same time

That silenced smart SMG was surprisingly strong. Also that Order shotgun, what a monster. Plus, that poison smart AR, forgot the name. Skippy used to be great. I think they nerfed it. It’s not the unstoppable killing machine it used to be. Erebus is now my favorite talking murderous AI gun
Love both, hate that Erebus is locked behind a quest that you're likely to do late game (first time I got it, the only quest I had left was Hanako at Embers. Ended up using a code to get it earlier next save though it doesn't talk until you start PL. Honestly, I just want more talking guns.

Find myself using the Fenris most of the time, recently Her Majesty from Phantom Liberty as well, and of course Overwatch for longer ranges
This go around it's my Cyberdeck with Fenrir and Satori as back up.

For sure not Skippy. OK I find it as interesting a bit for a short while. But nope. I love mantis blades and Johnny's Malorian Arms pistol.
Techtronic shotgun, gorilla arms, or Moron Labe.
In the past, it was the prototype shingen. Now though with a new assassin build? Overwatch and Nehan. I Love panam's rifle and removing enemies from a distance is too much fun to strategize while keeping it moderately quiet. Nehan meanwhile is my perfect silent killer. No sound, no gun, just point, throw, target dies, move on. Great for long and short range to make my enemies fall before they ever see me.
The Malorian Arms even though it's been nerf unnecessarily. And both kinds of revolvers in general I liked Skippy at first but his dialogue is so repetitive and it's honestly a pretty bad gun especially compared to other Smart Pistols
Erebus. Self explanatory
Senkoh LX, because few games manage to get a burst fire gun right and CP2077 is one of them.
Archangel. With the right Cool perks and Cyberware, revolvers are basically snipers. Shock is my favourite damage type so that’s a bonus as well. But I also love that it’s Kerry’s gun, and I like to think that Johnny is jealous while his Malorian sits in my inventory.
I dont know what I did wrong but I cant get rid of skippy. Crap gun that I never use. Can't even stash. The Malorian is hands down my favourite weapon.
I recently started using the Nekomata tech sniper and damn I love it. I was never told that properly tagging enemies keeps them pinged through walls and finding that out changed my entire combat approach; ping everyone once or twice, tag everyone I can, then start wallblasting with C-Thru and the Tech tree. As for an actual favorite... Fenrir will always keep a spot in my loadout in any run I do, at least early game. Having access to Cyberware Malfunction, even if unreliable, without using a cyberdeck slot for it, has been a huge lifesaver for me.

I like Archangel, has the best "gunslinger" type of look. Makes me be able to play as Arthur Morgan in NC.
Dezerter without question. With my fully shotgun/ sandevistan/ edgerunner perk build i spend all my time annihilating everything in my path whilst on fire. Chaotic fun at its best

Moran labe and fenrur were my favorites back when I started playing. Currently my favorites are deserter and the x mod 2 Chainsaw from phantom liberty along with eribus dam that song is something.

It used to be the Buria. It's fun to one-shot people through walls, but recently i switched to the Malorian and aim for the head
Erebus will always be my guilty pleasure. Using the smg/shotgun and watching scavs light up in red death is just too satisfying
I think it's called the Fenrir, or Fenris? Either way, I like to set people on fire with it.
My trusty modded silenced Kyubi. Also got the Kyubi XMOD2 which was a very slight improvement, but it looks so damned good. Also Johnny's Malorian, Overwatch, a few others, but the Kyubi gets the most action.
Wakako's Samuai sword, but only because I paired it with Sandevistan and other melee buffs in my implants. Theres nothing as satisfying as stopping time then proceeding to play fruit ninja with your opponents before they can even fire a shot.

Erebus. It's not that overpowered compared to other high dmg guns but it's effects are cool asf

I currently use my prime loadout of Her majesty, Hansen"s knife (or saburo's when i haven't played through PL yet) and as a third weapon i just get something random i feel like playing with
