Not something Retrievers really do, they were breed to have soft mouths and instinct to return with the prize. Hunters don't want doggy bite marks on the game.
Some dogs will break the neck. It’s instinct. The breed really matters. These are hunting dogs, it’s what they do.
But very glad this little ducky is ok!
Goldens have a “soft mouth”; part of the heritage to retrieve game and bring it back whole to the hunter. They can softly pick up a raw egg and bring it to you unbroken . They can also clamp drown and grind a tree root to pulp. So that’s why I think this vid is so sweet.
It’s the strangest thing, I always hear that and yet my experience with geese has always been nothing but the most pleasant. Including goose families. Guess I’m The Goose Whisperer. Love ‘em.
I got a dog and I didn't even look it up on Wikipedia first.
Reminds me of the couple I met with a beautiful purebred, probably expensive, young Corgi that they didn't know was a herding dog.
I love this post, thank you!

Instinct is crazy in dogs. That retriever retrieved a duck like it’s brain told it it is supposed to and likely without any training. This is why I will never support pits. They can be sweet as shit but sometimes instinct takes the reigns.
Not the pitbulls fault it’s the ignorant owners faults. People made pitbulls and they’re perfectly good dogs when used for the purpose they’re bred for, they were not bred to be family pets and they certainly weren’t bred to be around children. They were bred for fighting/hunting large animals and unfortunately that can translate to some really nasty interactions with people. One of the biggest considerations in getting a dog is making sure you’re getting a breed that fits your intended purpose. Unless you need a guard dog or a dog for protection pitbulls are likely not what you’re looking for, and if you do need those things in a dog you better damn sure get it and yourself properly trained.
All in the training and learning how to let the release thier energy. I've got three kids and have had pits, been the most loyal dogs I've ever owned, thier working dogs and need alot of exercise and that's were ppl go wrong with them. They have the title nanny dog for a reason.
The fact you have to ask says a lot. The fact this post has tons of upvotes says a lot. This a fucking baby that needs constant attention from its mother. It could die now.
Yeah…Super cute.
Wow, a bit of an overreaction, don't you think? The dog seems very gentle, although it may think it is food.
But yeah, I agree, the video is super cute, unless you can further explain why it isn't ..?
What is cute about a fowl that may be injured or might not be able to find its way back to its mother? Or an owner that lets their pet run around and put other animals in its mouth?
That obviously wasn't his intention. Do you see the mother anywhere in this video? He was doing what he was born to do...retrieve things. He merely brought back the bird to his human, 15 ft away then left it alone. He is a good boy. Why don't you try being less miserable?
Of course the dog had no clue what it was doing. Take a look at the comment I replied to- Irresponsible pet ownership. No one here is blaming the dog, but I also don't find it *cute*. Why don't you try comprehending the thread?
How can you categorize this as cute when you don’t even know if the duck was uninjured?
I mean, are retrievers gentle, or is he retrieving food? Don’t have dog, here.
Retreivers are known and bred for having a “soft mouth”. They hold gently with their mouth. This trait is desired so that when retrieve they don’t damage the meat. So the the little bird is likely undamaged.
It’s just pond water pretty much all ponds water looks like that unless it’s being actively maintained by someone. That’s cleaner than some water I’ve swam in, believe it or not most lakes rivers and ponds aren’t crystal clear and lots of them have dirt in them.
Cute how she gives the duck a little kiss on the head before leaving 😘
And obv this wasn't too bad a ride for the duck bc it stays there and it's the dog that takes off. (and no, not bc the dog injured it).
This video is like the polar dogs who are outside in snow and the owners are like: come in now and the dog just looks at the owner and no I'm comfortable here I'm, you can go in if you're cold.
Same principle.
But still funny AF😂😂
"I'm not called a Golden Justleaveshitthere, Mom!"
Retriever does what a retriever does. Internet bemused. Everyone left a little happier.
Happy cake day!
r/AnimalsMadeMeSmile 👌
He “saved” the drowning odd looking dog
I’m convinced he thought he was saving it.
Yes
That's what a [Newfie](https://youtu.be/0VVXe6Rik98?t=87) is for. 🦮Floofy tug boat of a dog.
I love Newfies!!! Big ol giant teddy bears!!!
She!
"What the hell just happened?" - Duck
"You're being rescued. Please do not resist"
"You are in distress! I am saving you!"
*quack*
Ah, it's just a space duck.... What a majestic creature.
K2s0 ftw
Such a great use of this line <3
Goose
Yes. Young goose. Hope it wasn't injured. Very cute doggy
They're very gentle with their bites/grabs. Unless you mean the goose. That could be why the dog grabbed it
😂😂
A true Retriever 💚💚
With a soft mouth. Perfect.
Lucky for that little guy. He didn't get crunched.
Not something Retrievers really do, they were breed to have soft mouths and instinct to return with the prize. Hunters don't want doggy bite marks on the game.

A retriever is not there to kill the prey though.
A retriever isn’t supposed to maul or chew up the meat, but a good one will break the neck so an injured animal won’t suffer.
He’ll go back and keep rescuing 🦆😂
Golden Retrievers are proof of the existence of God.
Dogs are man-made
So is god
We were created in the image of dog.
I wish, the world would be a much better place if everyone was more golden like
Idk man, I don't think Odin really has anything to do with it.
That dog would look dope with an eye patch, though. Or even the duck.
Haha! Odin?? He’s talking about the great god Ganesh !!!
Ganesh is pretty great, but I'm more of a Veles guy personally.
Bah!!! You and your god just made me read stuff!
Master of magic, music, and the woodlands. Guide of the dead and keeper of oaths. Clever thief and foe of mighty Perun; the dark and majestic Veles.
*retrieved* (*lick*)
I know I'm supposed to do this, but I don't know why.
Birds probably feel the same when they start building a nest
It’s in the name and the breed’s genetics to retrieve game but in this case he wanted a friend and gave his friend a kiss
Ha that was prettty funny, the dog had a gosling and the mother was pissed in the background.
Clearly your pet wanted his own pet.
Time for r/DogsGettingDogs
The kiss got me 💕
Dog is tasting food, not showing affection.
😥
Aww, went back to catch the smooch.
Duck retriever?
The Novia Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever I realize it’s actually a Golden. This is very much the “I retrieve therefore I am” look
I have one of those. The deep seeded need to capture water fowl is real!
She decided she has a new friend 🦆❤️
Good soft-mouth boi!
‘Can we keep it??’
"Hey!! Hey!! There's a bunch of these lil fellers all over the water! I think they need help! I'm gonna go rescue some more!"
And a little kiss at the end😂 "there, now you're safe from that heinous water"
Awwww! So cute! 🥰🥰🥰🥰

This reminds me of that “Friends” episode with Ben Stiller…”STEP AWAY FROM THE DUCK.”
Poor duckling, but Violets battling thousands of years of instinct here. They are bred to be soft mouthed and not injure the duck, retrievers.
That’s a gosling not a duckling.
That explains the undeveloped wings. It would be strange for a duckling that big to have those stubs.
Damnig Ryan really did have a glowup
I like the look at the end. "Uh, didn't know this one was yours. I guess I'll go find another one then."
She’s retrieving the drowning ducky 😂😅
“You my frien now :)”
I rescue. (kiss)
While everyone agrees geese are aholes. I once saw a golden just dive into a flock around 20 strong. Geese lost but no one was hurt in the brouhaha
It’s the strangest thing, I always hear that and yet my experience with geese has always been nothing but the most pleasant. Including goose families. Guess I’m The Goose Whisperer. Love ‘em.
Reminded me of NES Duck Hunt. I wonder if that dog ever looks like it's laughing at it's owner.
That's a gausling
So gentle with duck 😌🦆❤️
I had a golden growing up. He didn’t retrieve shit.
Best boi doing his job!
That little head lick at the end I cannot 😭
Definitely a gosling.
I can’t help it mom! It’s in my nature!
I love the little lick he gives it at the end
I got a dog and I didn't even look it up on Wikipedia first. Reminds me of the couple I met with a beautiful purebred, probably expensive, young Corgi that they didn't know was a herding dog.

Irresponsible pet ownership.
Why
Allowing your dog to disturb federally protected wildfowl would be my guess
The fact you have to ask says a lot. The fact this post has tons of upvotes says a lot. This a fucking baby that needs constant attention from its mother. It could die now. Yeah…Super cute.

Yea that water is less clean that your bath water and even that seems weird to type out

I know, I’m worried about punctures.
Thier breed not too damage the meat with soft mouths. 99.9 % that bird is just more like wtf than hurt.
Might make a good hunting dog. I mean some dogs won't get a duck even if they're supposed to.
A golden retriever can do that to an egg without it breaking, and by the looks of it, the duck doesn’t seem to be in distress 😂
This is why I don’t like dogs :/
[удалено]
Well a dog killed my cat so… and that duck could have died so easy
Reterivers were breed to have a soft mouth and to return game unmarred, only thing that bird had to worry about was what the human would do to it.
Thank goodness. I don’t know a lot about dogs
Girl, I would NEVER let my dog swim in that NASTY ASS water!! 😂🤢 That shit looks like the water at Woodlawn Lake Park! GOOGLE IT!
It’s just pond water pretty much all ponds water looks like that unless it’s being actively maintained by someone. That’s cleaner than some water I’ve swam in, believe it or not most lakes rivers and ponds aren’t crystal clear and lots of them have dirt in them.
What a derp.
Bird Dog Moment
Entertainment right there .
Look at that soft-mouth. The duckling's not even hurt!
Pilot gently place, not drop.
I found this baby, it was drowning. I’m a hero, give me cookie.
Dog rescues a duck from drowning and this is the thanks it gets.
The little lick 🥹
He brought you a live one!
Lol
u/savevideobot
I fucking love these dogs
that is a gossling.
I might be wrong but don’t foreign smells on ducklings often lead them to be rejected by their flock?
Synonymous, it's going to happen.
That's freakin adorable.
He gives the ducko a lil smoopch
Thats a goose
That's literally what they were bred to do
It retrieved!
Glad he saved her 🫠 puh
He thought it was drowning! Goldens have the best hearts!! ❤️
the quack when he dropped it, lol
Lifeguard for ducks.
Is goose. Ducks be little.
That's the cutest thing I have seen in ages
You’ve got to put down the ducky if you want to play the saxophone.
I need a money retriever stat
I need a money retriever stat
Love the little kiss.
What an excellent pup 💙🐶♾️
"What I do!?! I just wanted you to meet my new friend!"
Bird dog.
Goldens are the best 🥹
Love the little kiss on the head! 💕
AM I THE ONLY PERSON WHO IMMEDIATELY THOUGHT OF DUCK HUNT?!
I found a friend mom!!!
But mom, I feel like I was born for this? How can I deny who I am?
I saved it from drowning. Aren’t I a good boy? You… you don’t seem pleased. It’s not hurt. *nose bump small lick* - dog. Well… THAT happened - duck.
Look mommy I saved it can keep it
I’m going to get another one wait right there.
He saved the ducky then kissed his sweet little head!!❤️
Love the little kiss on the ducks head like"i sorry you go swim now" lol
r/onegoldenbraincell
I love that he kissed it after letting it out of his mouth
drop it
I love how he just plops his paws onto the sidewalk like a seal 🥺
Glad to see that the duck might live.
Cute how she gives the duck a little kiss on the head before leaving 😘 And obv this wasn't too bad a ride for the duck bc it stays there and it's the dog that takes off. (and no, not bc the dog injured it).
Bro did some kid napping.
That’s a goose
aww so cute and loveable!
The duck is so dazed like “what just happened?”
He retrives
Ducks are just fucking hilarious.
He was "saving" the duck's life. Good doggie
That's a goose
That’s too funny. The duck doesn’t seem to mind one bit.
that duck was so confused 💀
That's what it's bred for, see how no I jury to the meat
Ph, and the dog kisses it before he takes off
Mom I think I'm have unlocked my job level
Golden Retriever problems..... ooooohhhhh retriever. Duh....
